Here's what the manual says:
You can record voice memos using the optional Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic or an optional iPod classic-compatible microphone (available for purchase at www.apple.com/ipodstore). You can store voice memos on iPod classic and sync them with your computer. You can set voice memo quality to Low or High.
Note: Voice memos can’t be longer than two hours. If you record for more than two hours, iPod classic automatically starts a new voice memo to continue your recording.
To record a voice memo:
1 Connect the Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic to iPod classic, or connect a microphone to the Dock connector port on iPod classic. The Voice Memos item appears in the main menu.
2 To begin recording, choose Voice Memos > Start Recording.
3 Speak while wearing the Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic, or hold the microphone a few inches from your mouth and speak. To pause recording, press the Play/Pause button. Choose Resume to continue recording.
4 When you finish, choose Stop and Save. Your saved recording is listed by date and time.
To play a recording: Choose Extras > Voice Memos and select the recording.
Note: You won’t see a Voice Memos menu item if you’ve never connected a microphone or the Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic to iPod classic.
To sync voice memos with your computer:
Voice memos are saved in the Voice Memos application on iPod in the WAV file format.
If you enable iPod classic for disk use, you can drag voice memos from the folder to copy them.
If iPod classic is set to sync songs automatically (see “Syncing Music Automatically” on page 24) and you record voice memos, the voice memos are automatically synced to a playlist in iTunes (and removed from iPod classic) when you connect iPod classic. You see the new Voice Memos playlist in the source list.

  • Voice Memos on the iPod Shuffle

I have an iPhone 4s which I have made some voice memos on. I synced them to my computer and created a playlist in iTunes of the specific files I needed. I would like to put them onto my second generation iPod shuffle, but when I try to autofill the iPod shuffle from that playlist, I get an error message saying "iTunes cannot add any songs to the iPod "Nicole's iPod" because no songs in the playlist can be copied to this iPod." Is there anyway that I can copy the voice memos to the iPod shuffle?

What format are these files encoded in?  You can check by right->clicking on a track, choosing Get Info, and looking under the Summary tab.
Do these Voice Memos play okay in iTunes?

  • How do I transfer a voice memo from my Ipod touch to my windows 8 laptop please?

How do I transfer a voice memo from my Ipod touch to my windows 8 PC please?

    Hi its pretty simple. So
*First download the latest iTunes version and install it on the PC.
*Plug in your Apple Device to your PC
*The iTunes window will automatically pop up when you have connected your device, if it doesnt happen , open iTunes manually.
*Choose Your device and there it would show you the "Summary","Apps", "Music","Movies" etc etc..
*Go to Music and click on the option "Sync Music"
*When you tick that option , the other options would be enabled. They are the "Entire Library", "Selected Playlists...", "include music videos", "include voice memos".
    *Tick only "Include voice memos"
*Now it should start syncing and show you a separate folder saying Voice Memos on the Left side where all your other folders are there on itunes page.
*You can access those audio files by going to the C:_Users*_My Music_iTunes_iTunes media_Voice Memos!!
NOTE: IF THOSE VOICE MEMOS DONT GET TRANSFERRED TO YOUR PC , THEN IN YOUR DEVICE , NAME ALL YOUR VOICE MEMOS AND THEN TRY THE WHOLE PROCESS AGAIN.
NO NEED TO BE DOWNLOADING THE ITUNES AGAIN AND AGAIN.
    Hope this helps You

  • How do I download a voice memo from an ipod touch onto my library without erasing and syncing the itouch

how do I download a voice memo from an ipod touch onto my library without erasing and syncing the itouch?

Are you trying the "sync" the Voice Memos to a computer other than your syncing computer?  If it is to your syncing computer just follow the instructions in the Users Guide.  If to another computer you will have to make a backup of the iPod on that computer and then restore the iPod from that backup and then sync to the computer.

  • How do you remove voice memos from the iPod after downloading it to iTunes?

first of all, which model of voice recorder is best for the 5G video 30 gb iPod? I have heard of Griffin iTalk and Belkin Universal Microphone Adapter, but i'm leaning towards the iTalk b'c it looks cheaper on Amazon and eBay. does anyone suggest anything along those lines?
and also, after recording voice memos (like class lectures and such) onto the iPod and downloading them to iTunes, how do i remove them from the iPod? do i have to make them a different program file (like windows media player, and not iTunes)?

    Hi King Arthur 2000,
Voice memos can be shared back to a computer in a number of different ways, described in this article -

  • How can I get a Voice Memo from my iPod to my PC?

I record discussions with coworkers on my iPod Touch because I have trouble taking handwritten notes.
The trouble is that the Voice Memos playback screen is small, and the Scrub control is so small, that it's hard to use with any precision. I wind up going back two minutes in the recording when I only need to go back 30 seconds, that kind of thing. It's very time-consuming transcribing notes when I listen to much larger portions of the recording than I need to, multiple times.
To make things worse, the Scrub control in Voice Memos is very near the Delete button.
All I want to do is move or copy this recording off of my iPod and onto a PC at my job, so that I can listen to it on a larger player that's easier to use. Needless to say, I'll manage to play an unprotected audio recording on my PC one way or another.
My "real" iTunes installation is at home. Can I move the file from my iPod into an otherwise empty iTunes installation at work? I'd also like not to erase my iPod by syncing it to an empty iTunes installation; been there, done that.
I've tried Messaging these recordings to friends with iPhones to be able to see the recordings as an attachment to a Sent Message. This gets me a larger QuickTime player, but there are drawbacks with needing to Message a 24-minute recording to a friend with an iPhone.
I would also be happy to be able to use this recoding in a larger player on my iPod without the silly business about Messages that is cited above.
    Thanks.

Thanks Caramby.  I actually found another work-around
Here's how to copy the voice memo to your laptop (and then email it if you need to):
With iTunes open on the Voice Memo folder of your device (an iPhone 4s in my case), simply drag the required file from iTunes and onto the desktop of your pc/laptop.  It won't remove the file from your device but simply make a copy.   Then you can play the file from your pc/laptop (through Quicktime) as the file is in AAC format.  You can also attach the file to an email for sending.
    Hope this helps someone else.

  • How do I export a voice memo from my iPod touch to my pc?

Windows Explorer recognizes my iPod Touch as a camera only, and shows image files only via Explorer.  I cannot figure out how to export from iTunes.  I would like to copy or export a 50 minute long, 24MB voice memo to my hard drive.  The voice memo is an interview my 11 year old son did of my father for school.  Well worth keeping.  Too big to email or text.

That is covered in chapter 23 of the Users Guide:

  • Is there any way to get "voice memo" (the iPhone/ipod touch app) onto our new iPad 3?

I know there are apps in the app store that will have similar functionality, but I want Apple's original "Voice Memo" app for it's reliability, automatic syncing with iTunes on our other devices, ability to trim easily, and the overall interface.  I'd be willing to pay a purchase price, but I don't see any way of obtaining it... I'm a bit irritated as I thought this would have come standard as it did on my old iPod Touch. (I see it's still standard on iPhone and iPod Touch, too!)

No Voice Memos app by Apple on the iPad. I downloaded one from the App Store from another developer that is nearly identical.

  • Voice memo playback low volume, ipod touch 4th gen bluetooth

After recording a voice memo on my ipod touch 4th gen.  I play it back on my bluetooth JBL flip.  Now when I playback sound levels are sometimes extremely quiet, and other times play at normal volume.  Volume on Ipod touch and JBL flip will be maxed out and still volume playback are extremely quiet.  I have tried turning off and on Ipod and not found anything work consistently at solving this issue.

Do you have a Phone? In your case i would save some money for an iPhone. Like i am doing now - i also got a 4G iPod.
Anyways if you really wanna go for another iPod, take the 5G now. The 5G is a big update from the 4G and Apple released it last year, so i think that the 6G will come in 2014.

  • Voice memos disappear off iphone 4 & ipod nano 5th after syncing to mac

hi. i record voice memos on my ipod nano 5th gen and when i sync the nano to my mac they are in itunes on my mac but not on my ipod anymore. they completely disappear from the nano. there is a v.m. playlist i can see on itunes for the ipod but they are grayed out and do not show up at all on the ipod. i can play them on my mac though. since i would like to have my v.m. on a portable device i tried copying them from itunes on my mac to my iphone 4 and have had strange results. sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't or a few will copy. the playlist doesn't copy to the iphone at all but if i go to the v.m. app on the phone a few will be there. help! how can i get my v.m. that are now all on my mac to one of my portable devices? thanks in advance.

nevermind. somehow now they are showing up in a music playlist on my nano. not sure if i just missed that as i was looking under extras > voice memos and not music playlists. i'm a happy camper now.

  • ITunes doesn't let me rename imported voice memos

    iTunes 10.5.2 (11)
I'm finding that I can't rename tracks I've imported from iPod (Voice Memos) since updating to latest iTunes. I type in the new name for the track then, when I click another track, the renamed track reverts to the original name again.
My normal practice: I import the voice memo tracks from iPod then convert them to mp3 then rename them according to the voice recording content. (Their original name is just the date and time of the recording.)
How can I make the rename stick?
For many years I've used lots of recorded voice memos from iPod (latest Classic 160GB and older Classic Video 80GB). I presently use Belkin TuneTalk to make the recordings with iPod. Until now, renaming them in iTunes has never been a problem, it just worked like renaming any other file in my Mac. This problem only started happening with the latest iTunes update (I always update as soon as an update becomes availble so it was just the regular incremental update, not some huge leap from version 7 or 8 or anything like that).
I've tried relaunching iTunes on several occasions but no difference. Also tried repairing permissions using Disk Utility and that seemed to make a brief difference on some occasions but nothing worthwhile or permanent.
Thank you in advance for any help or advice.

I have little familiarity with your setup (and still run an older iTunes), but I am wondering if your mp3s are being created without tags.  That's the metadata attached to certain file formats that store track information.  In my older version of iTunes there is Advanced > Create ID3 Tags which sets up tag types.  If this is still available you could try doing it for a track, then edit the information and see if it sticks.  Alternatively you could try a third party tag editor.  While there's a host of free ones for PCs there aren't many for Macs and I think they are all shareware at least.  Check http://www.pure-mac.com for a handy list of utilities.

  • How to stop syncing voice memos

iTunes is driving me crazy because every time I sync my iPhone 5S 16GB it is importing my voice memos into my Library despite the fact that I have done the following:
the "sync only checked songs and videos" box is checked
the "include voice memos" box is UNCHECKED
all of the "genre" boxes are unchecked
I have no music on my phone
I am using iTunes 11.1.2.32 on my Windows PC and iOP 7.1.2 on my phone.
The only thing that I can report that works is turning off "Sync Music" entirely.
Related, the only strange thing I can report is that when I go to the Sync Music page in iTunes, when my phone is connected by the cable, and check the box for "Sync Music," the amount of space left on my phone drops from 3.34 GB to 2.89 GB -- even though ALL of the boxes are unchecked for playlists, artists, genres, and albums, and it says "0 Songs."
It is as if there's another whole category of songs it is syncing but it won't show it to me.
I went to the Apple store today and they had no clue.
    Thanks for any ideas.

How many Gigs do you have on your computer? if you convert the voice memos to AAC which is possible after you put them on iTunes, they take up virtually no room.
When you plug in your iPod and a notice comes up asking if you want iTunes to put the voice memos from your iPod into your Library, selct "No".
If you want the voice memos to stay off your computer, your going to have to manage every manually, if you have iTunes manage automatically, it will delete the memos off your iPod because iTunes duplicates Movies, Music, TV shows, Memos, etc, from iTunes directly to iPod. Managing all material manually is a heavy price to pay just to keep memos off your computer. That's the way it goes. If any knows hows to keep the memos out of the Library but still keep on the iPod, that would be pretty intelligent of them.

  • How can I get my voice memos off of my iPhone?

I have a new iPhone and took some pictures and recorded a few voice memos.  I would like to save these before I restore my iPhone to the back up I have on my computer.  I was able to import the photos into iPhoto, but I am not sure how to import the voice memos.  Normally, I would see them in iTunes under the Voice Memos playlist, but they are not there.  When I click on the iPhone in iTunes it gives me a choice of restoring from back up or setting up as a new iPhone.  I am worried that either of choices would get rid of the two voice memos I have on my iPhone.  Any advice?

    Hey mahongue!
I have some information here that may help you import your voice memos into iTunes. This information is written for the iPod, but the steps for saving your voice memos should be the same with your iPhone:
    Synchronize
If iPod is set to update songs automatically and you record voice memos, the voice memos are automatically downloaded to a playlist in iTunes when you connect iPod. Once downloaded, the voice memos are removed from the Voice Memos folder on your iPod. To play the voice memos that have been synchronized to your computer in iTunes, select the Voice Memos playlist on the left side of the iTunes window. To play the synchronized voice memos on the iPod, select the Voice Memos playlist in the Music menu, not the Voice Memos menu in the Extras menu.
