Voice memos disappeared

I have had voice memos of yoga routines on my iPhone for many years.  Use them regularly.   After connecting with iTunes to remove songs from my iPhone to save space, the all of my voice memos dated before January 2012 are gone.  There are still 36 voice memos on my iPhone, but they are all from 2012-2014, none of the earlier memos are there.   iCloud does not back up voice memos--correct?.  And I have not backed up my iPhone to my computer ever--according to the account (but I could swear I did at some point).  I see from the discussion threads that there are no answers about issues with Voice Memos, can anyone help me?

Did you sync your iphone with iTunes ? If you did, they will be available. Just select voice memos when you connect to itunes again and they will get synced.

  • Voice memos disappear off iphone 4 & ipod nano 5th after syncing to mac

hi. i record voice memos on my ipod nano 5th gen and when i sync the nano to my mac they are in itunes on my mac but not on my ipod anymore. they completely disappear from the nano. there is a v.m. playlist i can see on itunes for the ipod but they are grayed out and do not show up at all on the ipod. i can play them on my mac though. since i would like to have my v.m. on a portable device i tried copying them from itunes on my mac to my iphone 4 and have had strange results. sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't or a few will copy. the playlist doesn't copy to the iphone at all but if i go to the v.m. app on the phone a few will be there. help! how can i get my v.m. that are now all on my mac to one of my portable devices? thanks in advance.

nevermind. somehow now they are showing up in a music playlist on my nano. not sure if i just missed that as i was looking under extras > voice memos and not music playlists. i'm a happy camper now.

  • Voice Memos disappear

At a conference I made about 10 recordings. At the end of the day all recordings were available. The next day I synced my iPhone, but didn't find no new recordings in the Voice Memo Play list. Checking Voice Memos on my iphone I only found the first and the last recording of the conference.
After syncing again only the last Voice Memo was added to the playlist in iTunes.
Does anyone know what is happening here?
It seems that the recordings are still in the iPhone, but invisible to me. In the iPhone backup I found the recording with a MOV filetype.
Now is another question. How can I make them visible again or how can I delete them from my iPhone?

I can verify that the above "work around" did indeed work...
found my lost voice memos in: /User/USERNAME/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup
-renamed them with the extension .mov and they played flawlessly in Quicktime.
    Thanks for the fix!
But not even the time stamps were right on the memos. Kinda pointless if this is how synincing large files is going to be. Mine were only about 5-10 min. long.
Why is this happening though? It would be nice if there was a fix coming in one of the iPhone OS updates. Otherwise, I'm back to using my Griffin iTalk App.. that hasn't failed me yet.

  • Voice Memos Disappear After iTunes Sync

Anyone else experiencing this? My wife had 6 lectures recorded today on the iPhone before we synced it tonight. All of them had been recorded today. When she returned home she showed me the files on the iPhone so I can verify they were there.
However, once the first sync tonight completed, the Voice Memos playlist in iTunes only contained 3 of the lectures. What is worse is the iPhone now only contains these 3 lectures as well. Searched through the iTunes library and these are the only Voice memos to be found.
I performed a Restore (3.0) and then restored from the backup that was performed during that last sync and only recovered a short test memo we recorded that day before.
I will be filing an iPhone Feedback report, but wanted to know if this has occurred with anyone else. Cheers!

Jenny-did you ever get an answer to this?

  • Voice Memos won't play, disappear when sync

I recently got the iPhone, and only today did I try using the Voice Memo. At first, it worked fine, just testing it, but then it stopped working right.
The iPhone records, or at least says it records, my voice memo, and when I go into the list of voice memos, it is there. But when I try to play it, nothing happens. The bar at the bottom, with the minutes:seconds, just says "0:00" at both ends.
And when I sync with iTunes, the voice memos disappear.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2062895&tstart=0 . The third party ap iphone explorer is free and finds all the lost recordings, at least as mov files (actually an improvement from the m4a files Apple makes you to use). These showed up on my phone with zeros on the counter and would not play, when I e-mailed them, the attachments were 0 KB, when I tried to find them through itunes I could not. (Side note: I like itunes for music with my ipods, but for all the other aps on the iphone not user friendly for downloading, moving around). When I foolishly rebooted the phone, three of four formally existing voice memos just disappeared. When I used to the free iphone explorer ap I found them. Files of my boy talking for the first time that would have been lost forever. Another third party ap, phoneview, is helpful for downloading photos, but didn't help on the lost voice memos. So I'm using three software programs to manage my one phone... Oh, and don't think the phone recordings are safe either. I've been a Mac user since the beginning and despite the hype I think the iphone is the worst thing they've made to date. has wasted much of my "free" time trying to make work.

  • Lost voice memos after iOS 8 update

Before my very eyes all my Voice Memos disappeared off my iPhone 5s after the IOS 8.0.2 upgrade. The application was doing some weird things before it deleted every Voice Memo - wobbling and shimmering. Any ideas anyone?

Try Dr.Fone to scan your iPhone for the voice memos.

  • Iphone 4 Voice Memo Deletion

Trying to use an iPhone 4 which can barely run every screen is glitchy.  Tried to record a very important voice memo for my business, recorded memo, listened to it a few times, etc.  Suddenly the voice memo disappeared.  How do I recover voice memo please?

Please list the iOS version your iPhone 4 is running, since that may have a bearing
on the issue, and perhaps any helpful advice someone may offer in passing.

If you want to try & recover 'deleted' or lost Voice memos on iPhone 4, this article
at iFixit.com may be helpful; the causes are mentioned as is a path to try:

Had you looked to see if any Voice Memos re-appeared by accident -- in iTunes?
Did you see the Support section where manuals, and some helpful ideas for iPhone appear?
    http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/
Frankly, after looking into iPhone support, I am amazed at how lame and wasteful of my
time to try & find information, to help you, has been. The entire site seems dumbed/down.
So one of the other things is to look in search engine results, per example:
    iphone 4 voice memo restore:
    https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=iPhone+4+voice+memo+restore
    restore voice memo iphone 4:
    https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=restore+voice+memo+iphone+4
Sorry to not be of much help, as I was looking to see if you'd mentioned the OS X 10.10
issues in another discussion, and saw this instead. You may have to re-state the issue
in regard to that other topic. And I hope these two topics are not related, for your sake.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Voice memos no longer show up in iTunes on iPhone

After the massive IOS update my voice memos disappeared from playlists I had created in iTunes.
I had recorded some voice memos that I then inserted into play lists so I could use them as "music" and subsequently use them with some other apps on the phone. After the update, they disappeared off of the playlist on the phone.
I went into iTunes on my computer and renamed them and brought up the "info" on each memo and changed it to "music" and reinserted in the computer's play list and they still don't show up on my phone.
    Any ideas?

Try Andrei Cerbu's post here or see TS1538: iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows, in particular section 5, forcing a driver update.

Thanks for your solution, it wasn't quite what solved the problem but i remembered that i had a bit of salt water on my phone recently and spraying the charging port with an anti-oxide spray solved my problem, do you mind if i ask, how is the charging port related with the volume or/and speakers?

  • Voice memos in Utilities disappeared

My voice memos in the utilities section have disappeared from my iphone4, but they are backed up onto my mac mini. How do I reload them back onto my phone?

No. After waiting over two hours on the phone with apple support, they told me the voice memos were somehow currupt and there's no way to get them back.

  • Why my voice memos & notes disappear?

Suddenly to my horror today when I check my voice memos playlists most of my voice memos are gone from my iphone. I did not tweak around with my iphone or itunes. I backup my iphone regularly to my itunes PC and the voice memos are still in my itunes Library, but they are not in my iphone anymore. What's going on? And how do I transfer back the voice memos from my PC to my iphone?
My ipad is also experiencing notes disappearing by itself in the couple of months, which I've never had a problem after years of using it. But I have a Notes Folder in my email account which still have the lost notes. I can't figure out why. Please help

I just did, but it doesn't do anything. How do I transfer the voice memos manually from itunes to iphone?

  • IPhone 5 voice memo has completely disappeared

I have been conducting my senior thesis project which has involved conducting interviews. All of them have been recorded on my iPhone 5. It is not set to sync automatically and I have been transferring them manually to my computer for transcription.
This morning I looked at my voice memos, where there were 5 memos from 5 different interviews. I got distracted before transferring them, and when I went to transfer, there were only 4 voice memos. The 5th, and longest interview audio, was missing. I've downloaded multiple data recovery software programs, and various programs to manually access the files on my iPhone. When I look at recovery, it finds photos I've deleted from last year, but still, only those 4 voice memos exist. I've tried iCloud backup and iTunes back up options as well, and this file is literally no where to be found. I've restarted my iPhone as well.
So, is there any other way to try to find the voice memo file or is all lost?

Unfortunately not, unless you have it backed up. If you have it backed up though, you would need to fully restore the whole device.

  • Voice Memo Playlist disappeared

Hi guys, I wonder if anyone could help me out. I have tried syncing my voice memos held on my iPhone 3GS to iTunes on my iMac. For some reason for Voice Memo Playlist doesn't appear in the panel on the left hand side. I don't recall deleting it.
I've tried checking and unchecking the 'Include Voice Memos' option on the iPhone syncing tab, but I'm just not seeing the voice memos coming across.
    Any thoughts?!
    Cheers!

Voice memos sync automatically. The "include voice memos" checkbox controls whether or not they are synced back to your phone from iTunes. The voice memos playlist shows in the list with your other playlists. The voice memos will also be shown in your music library. Try to reset your iPhone (Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.) Then try to sync again.

  • Voice memos app

I will try not to sound too confusing.
I have HUNDREDS of recordings in Voice Memo app of my iPhone 4 (IOS 6.1.3).  (I am a writer and write alot this way, though have of late switched to other voice apps with more flexibility).
My goal is to get these voice memos off my iPhone, but be sure to leave them intact in iTunes with all of them named. ( I have been able to name memos since syncing capability retaining names was introduced).
They cannot be deleted as a group on iPhone, but have to be deleted manually, which does not seem to make them disappear from the voice memo playlist.    Is there some safe, less labor intensive option for deleting the voice memos from my phone without risking losing them in iTunes?
I am getting a new iPhone 5s and don't want all these to be restored on the new phone.
    THANKS!
    A.

I've heard of people recording 2+ hours. It may be dependent on available memory. You could do a test and see for yourself.
