Voice Memos iOS 8 time limit

I used to record all my 3,5 hours (3 hours and 30 minutes) classes with iOS 7.1.2 with no problem. I recorded more than 20 classes in this year.
After upgrading to iOS8 I tried to record the two last classes (same length) and the Voice Memo stock app stopped at 3h04min in both classes!
Is there a new limit for voice memos, or is it a bug?
I use an iPhone 5S 64GB with 25GB free space...
Thanks in advance.

I am having the same issue all of a sudden but for me, it just seem to randomly stop.  I used to be able to record forever and now I have had the voice memo stop on me after 50 minutes in a 90 minute class and 25 minutes in a 90 minute class.  I know it isn't space because I have 10 gigs of room on my 5s, so I don't understand and it's annoying because having those voice memos are great in studying and what not.
It doesn't do it every time, because I have gotten through some classes completely, but after two or three times, then it starts to do it.

  • How to get my 8bit voice memos (iOS 6.1.4)to play in iTunes on my iPhone 5?

I synced some songs I made in voice memo to itunes on my macbook.  then i tried to sync them to itunes on my iphone 5 iOS 6.1.4 and it says that it can't sync cause its 8-bit.  Is there a good converter that anyone has used before?

iDevices are not backup devices, never have been.
If there is no backup, there is a good chance that data will be lost.
iTunes purchases can be transfered from the device.
Connect the device, stop the sync if it starts.
Select File > Transfer purchases.  This will only transfer purchases made via the iTunes store.
Once complete, right click on the device and choose Backup... this should change the library association.
There are 3rd party applications that can extract media not purchased via iTunes and pictures previously synced from the old computer, search google or these forums and you'll find them.
Whatever happens, once the media is recovered, make a backup!!!!

Had you looked to see if any Voice Memos re-appeared by accident -- in iTunes?
Did you see the Support section where manuals, and some helpful ideas for iPhone appear?

Frankly, after looking into iPhone support, I am amazed at how lame and wasteful of my
time to try & find information, to help you, has been. The entire site seems dumbed/down.
So one of the other things is to look in search engine results, per example:

Sorry to not be of much help, as I was looking to see if you'd mentioned the OS X 10.10

in regard to that other topic. And I hope these two topics are not related, for your sake.

  • 6234 : voice recorder recording time

does anyone know how I can re-parametrise my 6234 voice recorder recording time limit on my memory card ?
when I switch the voice recorder from the the telephone card (1.2Mo) to the memory card (64Mo of which only 26Ko is used; ie memory left = 59.7Mo), the recording time span is set to 60:00 - ie 60 minutes only.
ie how can I change that setting of 60:00 minutes to be greater than 60:00 minutes ? eg 120:00 minutes etc etc?

I'd venture a guess that the 3GS has the horsepower to encode AAC in realtime, where as the 3G does not.
I don't think you are losing much in the way of AAC vs. ALAC, given the limitations of the mic, and you have a lot more capacity.

  • Can I set a time limit on a voice memo?

My church has been using an iPod Touch to record services which I then turn into podcasts for people who missed the service. This has worked perfectly when I am at the service. However, on the days when someone who is a bit less tech-savvy than I is the person recording the service, there is a problem.  Inevitably that person forgets to STOP the recording at the end of the service. In these situations, it seems that eventually -- after a day or two -- when I go back to the church to pick up the the iPod, the battery is dead and NOTHING has been recorded. Or rather, the recording has not been saved. Usually the recording is listed (with the correct Start Time) but the recording length is 0secs. and pressing Play does nothing.  :-(
My theory: the person who did the recording never stopped the voice memo app, it recorded for many many hours until eventually the iPod's battery died.  I'm wondering if there's any way to either (a) preset the voice memo to record for, say 2 hours (plenty of time for a service which is usually 1 hour) or tell the voice memo to turn itself off after a certain amount of time with no activity (once the service is over and every clears out, the room goes silent)
Any ideas?  Are there any other voice recording apps which may have these functionalities?
    Thanks for any help.
    Peter

The native Voice Memos app does not have that capability. I looked at some other recording apps and could not find one that allows a time limit.

  • Voice memos in ios 7: lengths not set at first

    Hello;
I intended to write this as a question about what happened to an important voice memo that
I recorded yesterday, but going through what I did yesterday leads me to believe that I actually
deleted it because I thought it was empty.
I just upgraded to ios 7 on my iphone 4.  Yesterday was my first experience using the new
voice memo app.  It is my practice to record audio of class meetings and then the post an
mp3 file to the cloud.  At the end of class, I noticed that a voice memo had been recording as
I expected.  I don't recall if I paused recording then hit "Done" or hit "Done" directly.  A dialogue
    box came up:
    > New Voice Memo
    > Enter a name for this voice memo
    > New Recording
    > Cancel OK
A student asked a question and I had to leave the room, so I didn't complete the step of naming the file
    then.
Later, I noticed a recording of zero length (0:00:00) which I thought had gotten created inadvertently
(that seemed to be easy to do in the previous version of voice memo, so I didn't think much of it).
I deleted that file.  The question remained what had happened to my recording (of about 75 minutes).
As I tried to recreate my problem now, so I coud write it up accurately, I realized that all the voice memos I
created are shown as 0 length when they first appear on the list of recordings.  As I tried this a few times,
the delay in changing the length from 0:00:00 to the correct length did vary... from almost
instantaneously up to a couple of seconds (I don't know if it depends on the length of the file: the longest
I tried now was about 30 seconds).
For what it's worth, the zeros should not be displayed at all.
    Best regards,
    Daryl

  • Help! I've deleted my voice memos playlist on iTunes. How do I transfer my voice memos on my iPhone to iTunes for a second time?

Help! I've deleted my voice memos playlist on iTunes. How do I transfer my voice memos on my iPhone to iTunes for a second time?

You need to have the latest version of iTunes on the computer, version 11.1.3 to be able to handle syncing a newer phone with iOS 7. The iTunes on the iPhone has nothing to do with syncing and is installed by the iOS.
Go to iTunes on the computer, click on Help, Check for updates to update iTunes on the computer, or go to to www.apple.com/itunes/download and download and install the latest version of iTunes to correct your problem.

  • How do I backup voice memos from iPhone 4 to my Macbook with iOS 6.0?

How do I backup voice memos from my iPhone 4 to my MacBook, with iOS 6?
I have synchronised them a hundred times but iTunes just doesn't backup my voice memos. And I haven't seen a playlist called "Voice Memos" on the left sidebar either...

Look for Voice Memos under Genres in iTunes.
With the phone connected, click on its name on the left. Then click on the Music tab on the right. Is "Include voice memos" checked?

  • Time Stamp a Voice Memo to the Second

I need to make a voice memo that's date and time-stamped to the second. It looks like Voice Memo doesn't do this (but if there's a way to, please advise!). Does anyone know an app that would do this? The greatest thing would be to be able to make the file name related to the date/time again to the second.
Thanks for any advice. This is to replace a system on an old Palm Pilot using Audacity Audio with the date/time stamp option for naming capable to the second as well....

I have the same problem.  I noticed it for the first time after the recent IOS 7 update.  The audio file I recorded using "Voice Memos" was trimmed down to 2 seconds, but iTunes reads it at full length (1:13) so I can't add it as an alert to my phone.  Oddly enough, the playback only lasts 2 seconds in iTunes, so it seems like there is an issue with how iTunes is calculating the time for trimmed Voice Memo files.

  • Voice Memos Issues After IOS 8 Upgrade

After upgrading to IOS 8 on my iPhone 5s, the majority of my voice memos are missing and the ones that remain no longer have titles or even play back on my phone.  Any ideas?
    Thanks.

I was able to recover my voice memos, though the original titles are gone.
I opened my Voice Memos app like everyone else and I saw each memo quickly deleting and acting glitchy. I then connected my iPhone to my macbook so I could attempt to restore the backup I had made before the ios8 update. It said it couldn't be done because there wasn't enough room. However, when I opened my memos app again, the voice recordings were there! I can't verify if it's all of them but I'm grateful I was able to recover some.
I use this app to record lyrics on the go and I'd really like Apple to step up and fix this.

  • Lost voice memos after iOS 8 update

Before my very eyes all my Voice Memos disappeared off my iPhone 5s after the IOS 8.0.2 upgrade. The application was doing some weird things before it deleted every Voice Memo - wobbling and shimmering. Any ideas anyone?

Try Dr.Fone to scan your iPhone for the voice memos.

  • VOICE MEMOS and Wrong Time Stamps in Itunes

I've noticed that my voice memos in the new iTunes 11.1.3 (8) have incorrect time stamps all over them now. This is a real problem for me, since I need the dates that the messages were recorded. I just tested this out by recording a new one today (2/11/14) on my new Iphone 5s. It showed up dated 8/13/12 2:13pm. My phone has the correct date on it, so what gives?
    Any solutions out there?
Not to mention the fact that there are NUMEROUS DUPLICATES of previous memos that have become weird artifacts in my iTunes library each time I've backed up my materials. AND the new iTunes setup makes it incredibly hard to *actually remove data* from my system. I am concerned my private material is no longer private, but being archived elsewhere for meta-data purposes.
    C'mon, Apple. You're really slipping.

I see all timezones, have you tried setting the time/date manually? I'd do than, then pop an email to support.

How do you transfer voice memos to your pc?  I have synced my phone a number of times and everything updates with the exception of voice memos? Also, my voice memos are checked to be synced everytime my phone is synced.

Voice memos, once correctly synced, will appear under your Music Library.  Can you go through your music library to check?

  • I found a bug in iOS 4.3.3 - Long voice memos

    Hello,
i found a bug in iOS 4.3.3 for my iPhone 3GS
Long voice memos can not be played
In these cases, the iPhone saves the file not in the format M4A or can not open this file.
This file is stored in the folder /var/mobile/Media/Recordings
In This cases there can be find a file in the format MOV.
During recording, the voice memo has the format MOV.
When the voice memo stopped the file must be stored in the format M4A.
For large files, there are currently problems.
I use the program  iPhone Explorer and save the MOV-file on my computer.
Now i can open it with QuickTime.
    Best regards from Germany!

    Greetings UbeydGencer,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like your iPhone may have a couple of different issues. To troubleshoot Voice Memos not working as you would expect, I would suggest closing that application and then opening it fresh.
Force an app to close in iOS - Apple Support
It also sounds like your iPhone in not charging the way you would expect. If this is the case, I would suggest reading over and working through the steps outlined in the next attached article.
