Voice memos won't record

Aside from my issues with my 4S not playing videos - I can't seem to record Voice memos either.  I hit the red record button, it beeps for like a second then stops.  Siri works fine, I've no issues with making calls so it's not a mic problem - help me out please.  I'm thinking a restore might be necessary or a trip to the Apple Store which'll be heaving this time of the year....

I had the same problem, but after importing all my 600 photos to my computer and deleting them from the phone, the voice memo worked like a charm.  I couldn't take any more pictures either until I deleted them from the phone.

  • Voice Memos won't sync to iTunes anymore

So for some reason when I sync my iPhone 3G, the voice memos won't sync to my iTunes library.
The "Sync voice memos" box is checked and older voice memos from April and before synced in the past.
Now there's just a Voice Memos folder under my iPhone Tab and the new voice memos won't appear in my iTunes Library at all.
I want to convert them to Mp3 but that option is grayed out under the iPhone Voice Memos folder.
Is this just a bug? I recently bought a new computer running Windows 7, so I'm wondering if this is a common issue with iTunes?
    Any suggestions?

Even though this topic is considered answered, my Voice Memos weren't syncing and the software update didn't fix it. So, I did this:
    1) I backed up and synced my ipod
    2) deleted the voice memos playlist in iTunes (my playlist was empty already)
    3) deselected "include voice memos" under the Music tab
    4) clicked "Apply"
    5) when sync was done, shut down iTunes
    6) disconnected and reconnected iPhone and restarted iTunes
    7) reselected "include voice memos" under the Music tab
    8) clicked "Apply"
A new Voice Memo playlist was created with my voice memos in iTunes.
It's possible you can skip the step of deleting the playlist. I was just trying everything I could think of to get it going again. Maybe you can skip the whole first half and just shut down iTunes and reconnect device and sync again! So try and let us all know.
I think what was happening - and why it will work for some to upgrade their software - was because I had an iPod Touch with 3.1 syncing memos to iTunes before. Maybe the iPhone with ios 4 couldn't sync to the folder already created?

  • Record Level Adjust for Audio in Voice Memo or Video Recorder

I would like to request that Apple allow me to adjust the record audio volume level when recording in Voice Memo or Video Recorder modes. Often I find that the audio is distorting and most times I cannot step back far enough to avoid distortion levels. While I love the ability to SEE the audio level in Voice Memo mode, I am hoping that it is only a matter of firmware upgrade to be able to ADJUST the record level.
Also, if it is possible, it would be great to see some indication of audio level when recording video... something simple like a bar graph with green, yellow and red bars with the highest level reached sticking for a few seconds so that I can tell what the level is.
An alternate solution (if none of the above is possible in a firmware update) would be to automatically adjust the recording level to prevent audio distortion.
Thanks for the great iPod and here's hoping for a great firmware update in the near future!

Thanks, I've submitted my recommendation to Apple.

  • Since updating to IOS5 my voice memos won't sync from iPhone4 to iTunes (macbook).

Since updating to IOS5 my voice memos won't sync from iPhone4 to iTunes (macbook). They show in my iTunes but are grey so can't click on them. I need to put voice memos on a CD. Can someone help please?

First of all what PC type do you have, then what IOS are you running and finally what  Itunes are you running.
Oh and if this helps, check it out how to upload voice memos from iphone to iMac.

  • IOS 5 and voice memos won't sync

    Hi,
so, like everyone else, I update to iOS 5 and now my voice memo won't sync.  I would like to NOT have to delete them to restore as they have all my lectures from school on it.  But, if I have to restore, is there anyway of backing it up before restoring? or is there another solution to my problem??  is there anyway of reverting back to the old iOS?
ANY help would be very appreciated.
    Thanks.

I'm also having issues with voice memos. I have an iPhone 3GS and the memos sync to iTunes ok, but won't transfer to my iPad 1 running iOS 5. They are shown in iTunes as being on the iPad, but the 'sync' icon remains to the left of the file and they are never actually copied across. I've posted on several sites but have had no replied.

  • IOS4 large Voice Memos won't sync

    Hi,
I just upgraded my iPhone 3G(s) to iOS 4 yesterday and today I'm having problems with large Voice Memos. I use this heavily in my work with memos over 1 hour in length and never had a problem with syncing with my iTunes 9.2 (61) on my iMac/10.6.4.
Using iOS4 for the first time today I made 2 long recordings. One appears to have been corrupted on the iPhone (never happened before) and the other won't sync. I was able to pull both off using iPhone Explorer and the second can be added manually to iTunes and it plays fine.
Is there a bug in iOS4 Voice Memos for 3G(s) in this regard? Any suggestions?
    Thanks.
    Bob

I have this problem as well on a iPhone 3GS with OS4. Seems that OS4 broke some things. I had a 2 hour recording that wouldn't play on the iPhone. iTunes would sync the recording, but when I tried to play it on the PC, the PC kept saying it was not a recognized format. Short recordings worked just fine, just not long ones. Even ones that were just 15 minutes wouldn't work.
Try this program for either the MAC or Windows. It works great. Iphone Explorer
    http://www.macroplant.com/iphoneexplorer/
(taken from a previous post on similiar subject)
Downloaded and installed iPhone Explorer. Looked in the recording directory on the iPhone and sure enough, there was a MOV version of the recording still on my iPhone that was 2 weeks old. Copied it to my desktop and it plays just fine. Thanks guys for pointing out iPhone Explorer. Also found other MOV versions of recordings in that directory that I thought were gone because they were lengthly recordings. Your right, APPLE needs to fix this issue. At some point, all of the left over MOV versions of the recordings will eventually fill up the data space on the iPhone.

  • IPhone 6 voice memo won't work

    Hi,
Just bought and sync'd my new iPhone 6 and everything has worked so far except my voice memo app. Two issues:
    1) When I open the app all of my memos start loading, then the app closes on it's own.
    2) When I reopen the app, voice memos are gone and when I push the red record button, it wiggles a couple of times and then...nothing.
Thoughts or suggestions. And yes, I've done a power cycle.
    Thanks

    Potential solutions:
Try going to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings and see if that makes a difference. You will need to set up some bits and pieces again after, but it won’t delete any files or photos.
Some owners found it was caused by an old backup. If you are restoring from a backup you made with an older iPhone, that could be the problem. Try setting the iPhone 6 up as new, factory reset it, and then put everything on it manually, and you might find that the problem is gone.
If it persists, then you may have a hardware fault and you should contact Apple or head into an Apple Store to get it looked at. They should replace it for free if there’s a problem.

  • Voice Memos won't sync

I have two newly recorded voice memos that won't sync to iTunes. I have no issues syncing other voice memos, it is just with these two specific files. Is there a way to "force" iTunes to sync these files? Alternatively, is there another way to get these files onto my PC (they are apparenly too big to email or message directly from the Voice Memos app).

Even though this topic is considered answered, my Voice Memos weren't syncing and the software update didn't fix it. So, I did this:
    1) I backed up and synced my ipod

    8) clicked "Apply"
A new Voice Memo playlist was created with my voice memos in iTunes.

  • Voice memo won't show up in iTunes

    The short versoin:
A just over 15 minute voice memo on my iPhone won't sync to my computer while other shorter voice memos do. It doesn't even show up on the playlist Voice Memos on my iPhone while plugged into my computer. I would like to back up this voice memo. More details in the long version if needed.
    The long version:
I have a voice memo recorded on my iPhone that is just over 15 minutes. When I plug my iPhone into my computer this memo doesn't show up in the Voice Memos playlist (sub category of my iPhone in iTunes) while other shorter memos do. I currently have "Manually manage music and videos" selected under my Summary tab and on my Music tab "Sync Music" is unchecked the options "Entire music library" "Include music videos" and "Include voice memos" are checked but grayed out. If I check "Sync Music" it gives me the message that all existing content on my iPhone will be removed and replaced with songs and playlists from my iTunes library. Obviously I'd rather not replace my iPhone's library with my iTunes library as my phone isn't even big enough for my entire library, but I would like to be able to back up with particular voice memo, however it is not syncing to my computer like other voice memos are. Anyone have any advice?

Very odd. Perhaps it might be worth it to do a low level reformat of the iPod's flash storage. Some other users recently have run into the same issue and a reformat resolved it.  It may seem like overkill, but it has been known to work in odd situations such as yours.
Here are instructions for reformatting the Nano.

  • Voice memo won't sync

I have a voice memo on my ios 7 iphone 4S, i synced it to my itunes on my imac, but right after that happened I had an error message where iTunes couldnt save the library file. I was able to solve that problem but when I fixed iTunes, it reverted it back to an older "library" before the voice memo was saved. So now I cannot resync that memo to my computer. It seems to think it already synced so it won't transfer it again. How do I transfer the voice memo to my itunes library, ideally without using third party software.

    Hi
I've just discovered this problem and have not been able to even transfer the audio recordings to the mini SC card where at least I could have stored the file and kept it safe. I can't email them to myself because it crashes the phone every time. Beaming them using bluetooth doesn't work either. I've read the previous thread and there wasn't a solution listed there but the thread is very ol, going back to 2007.
I was present when a criminal threatened a street resident. The resident stood up to the guy. I recorded the conversation because I was right beside them. Now he's been hurt and if I come forward, aprt from the obvious problems, I'm going to have to give them my phone as evidence rather than a copy of the recording. That could leave me without a phone for months. I'll do it if I have to but you can imagine it would be very serious. This isn't a sob story. It's the actual situation.
I'm seriously looking for a solution. Have there been any further developments regarding this. I really need to give them a copy rather than the phone.

  • Voice Memos won't save my recordings?

I'm in college so I usually record my classes for further detailing, but I just recently discovered that Voice Memos just won't save my recordings like 2/5 of the time. I already lost like 4 important ones for the past 3 days.
The thing is that I see it recording, but it just doesn't save it, and it's just sitting there at 00:00:00 with the name tag I had put. I want to die.

    - Does you iTunes library already contain a Voice Memos playlist?  Some users have had to manually create it in order for the sync to occur.
    - Also try resetting your iPod. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • Voice memos won't transfer to iTunes?

I have an iPhone 5 that I recorded three voice memos on. They are pretty long, about an hour or a little more each. I've transferred audios longer than this to this same computer before (Macbook Pro), but it won't work now. I know the Include Voice Memos box is checked. I've tried restarting the computer. I've updated iTunes. I've tried renaming the audios. I've tried unchecking and rechecking the box. Everything. Even when I go to the On This Phone part, there is a playlist with the three but there is no way to get them to iTunes.

    Hi Martha,
The default direction for uploading Voice Memos is from your iPod to iTunes. To get Voice Memos from iTunes back onto your iPod (assuming they are not already on your iPod), try the following:
    1) Open iTunes, with your iPod already attached (docked) into your computer.
    2) Select the Voice Memos in the iTunes library you want to transfer.
    3) Left-click with your mouse the selected Voice Memos and drag them into the iPod icon in the left frame of the iTunes window.
Note that the default action of uploaded Voice Memos is to have "Genre", "Artist", "Album" and other fields to be undefined and "Unknown", respectively.
So you'll have to define these fields on the iPod if you want to find your Voice Memos in a genre called "Lectures", "Voice Memos" or something similar.

  • Since I upgraded to os 7 my voice memos are not recording and syncing with Itunes.

In the app the recordings show 0 time and when I sync with Itunes there is no recording listed at all. Any thoughts?

I found the answer, at least it worked for me.
    Here ya go:
    1) open the Voice Memos app on your iPhone
    2) on any memo: click the little blue arrow on the right
    3) Click the next arrow in the top most box this will put you in the "Label" screen
    4) From the "Label" screen: click the arrow next to "Custom"
    5) In the Custom screen: give the memo a name (click Done)
    6) Click the left arrow (top left) to go back to your memos.
You'll see that you memo as a name. I changed mine from "4:25 PM" to "Fishcakes".
    7) Sync your iPhone and you are good to go.
NOTE: If for some reason this doesn't work, go back into the same "naming" list on your Iphone voice memos app, and try one of the standard labels instead of a custom one. With one that wouldn't sync, I changed it to "Memo" and then synced it again, and then it worked.

  • Voice Memo won't play on MacBook?

A few days ago I went to a play and recorded the whole thing using voice memo for a friend of mine. The first act was close to 3 hours, and the second act was about an hour and a half. I recorded both acts seperately.
At first I planned on emailing it to my friend and tried to do so after the play. The files were too large so I attempted to trim them. Nothing seemed to be happening so I just stopped. The next day I synced my iPhone 4 to my Macbook but the only voice memos that synced was the one from the second act and a previous memo that was about six minutes long.
I downloaded iPhone Explorer and it showed all of my files. However the only ones I can listen to are the six minute memo and the one from the second act.
The six minute memo has the black album art with the gray music note, and the memos from the play are white with the blue iTunes symbol and say "MPEG 4".
Also, it seems that the memo from the first act did get trimmed because two files show up and one of them ends in "trimmed.m4a" instead of ".m4a".
Is there any way for me to recover/listen to the first act of the file? Thanks in advance.
ALSO All three of the voice memos can be listened to on my iPhone.

Im sick of this bug and Im Dying for help!!!
I lost a punch of uniquely high important records !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Are these records can be fixed or is it already corrupt files????
FOR GOD SAKE HBELP US!!!!!!!!!!!! n

  • My voice memo won't play

Iphone 5S. Recorded a 3:42 minute voice memo. It shows the blue arrow for play but when I press it nothing happens. How do I fix this so I can hear my memo?

Are you trying to listen to the voice memo on your iPod Touch or in iTunes?  If you are trying to play it on your iPod, try transferring it to your iTunes library and listening to it there.
