Voice Over Audio Problems

Hey! I've been working with iMovie '08 for just short of a month now, and I've never had any problems; until now. I want to create a Voice Over, which I know how by clicking the Microphone button and then selecting the clip. I did the first one, which worked successfully, I could hear it completely fine. However with the second it recorded, and it showed the waveforms there in the Time Line. Which means it has recorded the sound, however when I go to preview the sound I am unable to hear it. I can hear all other audio (including the previous V.O) and audio from the clips I've filmed, but these. Please can anybody help. Here are my Voice Over statistics:
Clip:
Volume: 100%
Ducking: Unticked
Fade in, Fade Out, Equilizer and Enhance: Unticked
Voice Over:
Built In Microphone ( The little green bars move when I make a noise so it's picking up something)
Input Volume: 100%
Noise Reduction: -45db
The other 2 are both unticked.
Please help! Thank you so much!

I am unable to mute the audio for Cut Away scenes that are added. It was working fine for one project but then new one it has stopped working. HELP Wake Up APPLE???

  • MAC Voice Over: Why does the screen view lag behind the voice over audio?

    MAC Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10K549)
    When using voice over on a MAC with DE 1.8 - most times when paging thru a pdf file/book the voice and the view are inconsistent.  When using VO -  moving to the next page with the right arrow key - the audio starts to read the next page (correct), but the display is one page behind (not correct).  For readers - especially those that have significant visual impairment  - this will not work for them.  Is this a defect - and if so - I would be very happy to re-test this feature if a new revision of DE 1.8 is provided.
    I am unsure this is the correct forum to raise issues such as this one.  I am in the process of evaluating Adobe DE 1.8 - my sister is blind and I am trying to move her to a MAC with VO.  I really appreciate Adobe's effort in supporting JAWS and MAC VO - thank you on behalf of all disabled folks out there.
    Below is a detailed list of steps to re-produce this audio/screen inconsistency issue.
    - Install DE 1.8 and add to the dock
    - Add a pdf file/book to DE 1.8.  For my issue, I am adding the "Voice Over Getting Started" guide.
    - Turn on Voice Over - Cmd+F5
    - Using VO - Go to the dock and select DE and start it.  The "Last Read Book" typically is the focus for the VO cursor.  Then using VO next item (VO+right arrow) - move the VO cursor to "Library Content Table".  This is the list of books that are displayed in DE.
    - Using the up/down keyboard arrows - move up and down thru the books in the content list.  At this point - you should already see that the VO audio announcing the title of a book is not synchronized with the row in the table that is displayed.  The voice is announcing a book that you selected, but the display is showing the previous book.
    - Once you hear (not see) the book you want to test with, hit <enter>.  DE will open the book and start to read using VO.  At this point the screen and audio for the first page in the book are the same.
    - Once the book has been opened by DE - Using the right arrow key navigate to the next page in the pdf/book.  Normally the right arrow key is the short cut to allow a user to move forward or backwards thru a book, one page at a time.
    - With DE and VO - what happens is that VO responds to the right arrow key and starts to read the next page.  But the screen is still showing the previous page.  Hence the screen and the VO audio are out of sync.
    - For anyone that uses MAC VO - this will prevent them from using Adobe DE 1.8.
    If I am doing something incorrect - please let me know. If you need any assistance or further information regarding this issue - please email me.
    Best Regards
    Mike R

    hi, Mike R:
         Thanks for your information. We have tested several Mac machines, iMac and MBP (use the same version as yours). But we can't reproduce the issue. Actually working with VoiceOver is a fundamental request for our application, we did test them before releasing the build.
         We suggest you test other applications, e.g. Finder, Preview and iTunes, to make sure if VoiceOver works fine with them. Or can you please check if your VoiceOver settings are correct?

  • Voice-over audio goes offline for no reason.  Is there a way to prevent this from happening?

    This is happening on both my editors.  I will add a voice-over track to the storyline and if I close out that project or close out FCPX, sometimes my voiceover track is offline.  NO, I DID NOT MOVE THE FILE OR ERASE ANYTHING.  I appreciate any input.

    Hey there 79usma79!
    I have a couple of articles for you that can help you troubleshoot the issues you are seeing with iTunes on Windows XP. The first is a general troubleshooting article, which can be found right here:
    iTunes for Windows XP: Troubleshooting unexpected quits, freezes, or launch issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1421
    This article can help you find out if there are any conflicts between your copy of Windows XP and iTunes, and can tell you what to do if there are. Before going down the troubleshooting route though, you should take a look at this article, which can help you back up your entire iTunes library to an external hard drive, so if this issue is recurring, you will be able to restore from that backup and will not have to worry about losing your playlists or music again:

  • IPod nano and Voice Over mode problems

    The iPod Nano keeps going into Voice Over mode despite it being in the "Off" position under settings.  Am I doing something to override the settings and how can I get it to stop?

    you may have enable voice over set in the iTunes settings
    to turn it off do the following
    -connect ipod to computer
    -when ipod shows up in the left column of iTunes under "devices" click on the ipod name
    -in the summary page, scroll down to the bottom of the page until you get to a section that says "options"
    -under options deselect the checkbox next to "enable voice over"
    -click apply and that should turn it off
    hope this helps:)

  • How to I achieve great voice over audio for a macbook pro

    Should I just plug in a mic? Do I need a external soundcard like the "apogee one" or is a USB mic a better solution?
    I also play the guitar so maby one day I would like to record some guitar to, but in logic or similar.

    Any mic, a quiet room and a good working knowledge of EQ. [The very best of the Logic plugins/"inserts" are in FCPX, btw.] If you don't have a quiet place (like me) then the very best -- BAR NONE -- noise reduction is in ScreenFlow - just take the default setting (80%). It's amazing - no "granular electronic" sound on the edges of quiet and sound like you get in just about everything else.
    That said: Zoom mics are really quite good. Inexpensive (H1), portable, and can be used as a USB audio interface (mic and other sources). The S/N is incredibly high - there is no detectable noise in the recording at all - quiet is DEAD quiet. The H1 (as well as the H2 and H4)  has an extra audio input so you can actually use any other mic you like as the recording source, like... a Shure SM-58 (with XLR to 1/8 inch stereo connector).  This particular Shure mic is one of the most popular in the world for all kinds of applications (talk radio, singers, etc...). It will make you sound like "THE VOICE". And the H1 makes the Shure *very portable*. The Zoom mics will also accept Line level input, so you can record from your computer, a CD player, etc...
    If you have an acoustic guitar, the H1 + a lavalier mic (Audio-Technica ATR-3350 for instance) clipped to the soundhole (so the mic is inside) sounds unexpectedly good — you decide: http://sight-creations.com/prv/audio/improv_030612_03.mp3 [production notes: strictly an improvised piece (not very good - but doesn't violate anyone's copyright; I was playing with and feeling out a new partial capo); "finished" in Logic with Space Designer>Medium Spaces>Nice Hall (toned down) + Adaptive Limiter (as a signal booster); no noise reduction used whatsoever, and the original source recorded outside on a breezy day with occasional traffic (none of which you will hear!)... I recorded at a lower level to keep extraneous noise out and since the S/N is so high, I can boost the signal in post without adding any unwanted hiss.]
    [**I'm not fishing for comments about the music here, I'd rather not hear about it! ... just demo'ing a setup.]

  • Voice Over Audio Not Playing

    iMove crashed and after restore voiceover audio and any new audio recorded does not play. I can see the wave form there but no audio plays from it. Same with music track.
    How do I recover my audio tracks?

    SOLVED
    Found ONE short audio voiceover that showed a yellow triangle. I removed it and the whole projects audio was restored.
    Really stupid that one bad clip takes out all the audio in a project.

  • I'm trying to trigger voice over audio with markers in a Edge timeline.

    I’m working on 4 instructional videos.
    Audio was not part of the initial plan, but it is now.
    Here’s the current edge video: http://docs.smoke51.com/Social/email/setup/web/
    I’m trying to sync the audio to the sections of the instructional video.
    There are 5 sections in the video; each can be triggered by a click. The play and pause buttons also work.

    on the button element that you use to pause the animation, you can have the audio pause as well.
    you might try something like the following:
    var myaudio = new Audio();
    myaudio.src = 'narration.wav';
    myaudio.pause();
    or with an audio tag such as <audio id="soundfile">, you can use:
    myaudio = $('soundfile');
    myaudio.pause();
    for the timeline, you can use sym.stop();
    that way, when one pauses, the other one does also.
    to autostart, set a trigger at 0ms on your timeline, then in the editor, put:
    var myaudio = new Audio();
    myaudio.src = 'narration.wav';
    myaudio.play();
    hope this helps.

  • Audio not recording properly doing voice-overs  CS5

    I'm in Premiere Pro CS5, the Audio Mixer window.
    I'm using an external Go Mic to record a voice-over audio track. It is hit or miss... one time it records audio properly ... then I clear that track and record again and the audio is blank. I notice in these instances that in the Project window the "speaker icon" isn't next to the audio track... instead there is a square white  icon with "recycle arrows" instead.
    Anyone encounter this? Suggestions?
    Update:  I found that if i close Premiere Pro and open it again the audio file is there and its complete... ideas as to what causes this???

    Hello,
    I’m trying to have the artist hear the beat and
    sing over it without hearing their own vocals while
    recording.
    Try muting the track that you are recording onto I think.
    B. I also would like to setup headphone capabilities
    for my artist and myself while doing live recording.
    Does your sound card have a headphone output? If it does connect a female single to double jac adapter so you can attach 2 pairs of headphones.

  • Video and sound stutters in imovie project, made up entirely of stills with voice-over and music. I'm using iMovie 9.0.4 on a PowerBook 2GHz running 10.6.8 with 274 GB of space free. Size of project is 588 Gb.

    This particular project is made up entirely of still photos with Ken Burns moves and dissolves between each photo. As I got further into the project, the voice over audio started stuttering, and now it hardly plays at all with a motorboat sound when it does play. I've also started added music with the dsame audio problem. I'm running on a Mac PowerBook 2GHz using System 10.6.8. I have IMovie version 9.0.4. The project file size is 588 Mb. I have 274 Gb of hard disc space left. I have shut off all other running programs and even disconnected from the internet, but nopthing seems to help. I acts like it's a memory problem of some sort, but all other applications run fine.

  • Voice Over: How to set Recording Range in Target ?

    Hi guys,
    I need help on Voice Over. I have been doing Voice Over without problem.
    But now I need help bcos I stumbled upon a new & irritating problem.
    QUESTION 1:
    When I select Voice Over, I cannot click the RED button to start recording because at the Audio File in Target (just the above the space we are supposed to type the filename), it says:
    "No Recording Range set"
    Previously, it automatically select A1, A2, A3 or A4 at random but this time it didn't and instead it says "No recording Range Set".
    What happened to system ?
    QUESTION 2:
    How do I specifically set it to output to a track of my choice ?
    Thanks

    Thanks Ian & Tom for the well explained answers. Now I understand.
    But I got another sub-problem.
    Like Tom says, it will create another track if there is not enough room. But what I did is slightly different.
    Ok, here is what I did. Not wanting to disturb the position of the rest of the voice-over clip, I locked all the audio tracks.
    When I did a voice over, it push down a3 to a5, and a4 to a6 so I have two new unlock audio tracks in a3 and a4 where the system placed the voice over clip. When I finally put the voice over clip the the correct position in a5 and a6, I ended up with 2 blank audio tracks.
    How do I delete these audio tracks ? I tried right-click and select delete track but the empty tracks remained there.
    How do I delete the unwanted tracks, then ?
    Thanks

  • Voice over comes out very fast

    I have CS5.5 and everything works smoothly except for voice overs. when I record a voice over  (audio track 2) the level indicators don't show anything but the voice over is recorded. However when played back it is running at something around Alvin & the Chipmunks speed. I usually get it to slow down and at that point the level indicators work but I have no idea what I have done actually fixes it. I am using the same microphone and sounds system that worked fine in CS5 and works fine in here when I get the playback slowed down. If I restart CS5.5 and go back to the project I worked on earlier the old voice overs play back fine but the new recording are fast again, until I click enough stuff and it slows down for some reason!
    What could I be doing wrong? I can't find anything obvious in the settings or preferences.

    Well, with VO work, the trick is to get someone with a good baritone voice, and have them not speak too quickly...
    OK, let's actually look at the problem. Having material at a vastly different Sample-Rate can cause problems, but you should not have this happening, as you are recording to a Project/Sequence that is set up properly. Scratch one thought.
    With AV work, having a really slow HDD can cause issues and those are often first seen in Audio. You are using the same gear, and sometimes it works, while other times it does not. Scratch the second thought.
    Now, you probably need to slow down, as you "click through things," and chart exactly what you are clicking on, and what finally works. You are doing something that fixes the situation, but you, and we, do not know what that is. You need to find out what you are changing, that does make it work. Then, perhaps you can make that change going in, and get things to behave properly. Only you can do that, as we'd just be guessing, and probably run you in too many circles.
    With Audio, there are also a ton of settings for playback, for hardware, or recording, and then for playback, many more at the OS and hardware levels. This is but a guess, but I'd say that there is some setting that differs in your PrPro CS5.5 installation/setup, that was correct in your CS5. I would pour over ALL Audio, Audio Hardware, and then Project/Sequence settings, looking for anything that might be different.
    What often happens, when one upgrades, is that when they installed and set up their original program, they step thorugh all the settings in Preferences and elsewhere, and get things tuned just right. Along comes an upgrade, and they now install it, assuming that everything will work, just as with the previous version, but now, "right out of the box." If the installation defaults do work 100%, then all is well, but if the user had made custom choices in Preferences, or elsewhere, then the defaults do not cut it.
    It appears that in your process of solving this problem, you ARE making a change in settings along the way, and that might well be the FIX that you need.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Voice over track gone silent

    Hello,
    I have a video on top of which I have added a voice over (my mom commenting on some 40 year old captured 8mm movies) in the audio track underneath the video track. Worked just great, but last time I opened the file, my voice over audio has gone silent. Each voice segment still shows, but I do not see the audio waveform anymore. When I take a voice segment and drag it on my hard disk, it produce a voice xx.mov file, which Quicktime would not open (I get a message like: "The movie could not be opened. The file is not a movie").
    I have, of course ensured that all volume settings on the mac and in iMovie are set properly (check boxes at the right f the tracks, volume slider below the video preview, etc.) I have also tried to view package by control-clicking on my iMovie file and clicking on "show package": I checked the content of the Media folder: all my voice file appear, but when I rty and open any of them, quicktime would not open them.
    Has anybody had the same issue? Any way I could resolve it? Any help would be greatly appreciated as it took forever to record these voice-overs.
    Thank you in advance, Regis

  • Transition to next slide automatically at end of voice over clip

    I have been trying to configure my Keynote 09 presentation so that each slide has it's own voice over audio clip. When the audio clip ends I would like to have the presentation move onto the next slide automatically. I cannot for the life of me find settings that tall the slide transition to take place when an audio clip ends.
    I do not want to set a slide time to 8 seconds if the audio is 8 seconds. I update the audio too much to keep adjusting slide timings.
    Can Keynote do this?
    Thanks in advance for any suggestions

    To the best of my knowledge, no.
    Having said that, if it takes you 1 minute to re-record audio file and re-insert audio to KN, it takes you 2 seconds to change the transition time so not sure your grief is so dramatic. Have to inspectors visible when you are replacing audio. One inspector on QT to show time length one inspector on Slide to change the transitions. If it is to dramatic then *Apple Menu > Keynote Feedback…* and ask for a build option that detects media elapsed time / end time is best suggestion I can offer.

  • Sound capture hardware/software for voice over work

    Sorry if this is a little off topic,
    Environment: Production Premium CS3 (Windows)
    I'm doing voice over audio capture for web videos. Currently, I use Soundbooth or the sound card software (Creative Labs) to capture.
    1. What is the best mic setup? I use a $30 headset boom mic. Is there a better way? I would rather record clean than spend time trying to clean up the audio. Any links to tutorials on setting up an audio studio?
    2. Should I use Soundbooth to capture?
    thanks for any ideas,
    fred

    I use a $50 headset. I use Sb to capture VO audio. I also use Sb to clean up the audio.
    If your room is fairly quiet or if the background noise is constant, then you can clean up the audio in Sb quickly. No need to go to the expense and trouble of creating a studio.
    The trick is to capture 15-30 seconds (sometimes you can get away with less) of "silence" in the room so that you can use it as a noise print for the NR tool in Sb.
    I've had good success using about 75%-80% for the amount of reduction.

  • Voice-over option on free trial version?

    dumb question I am sure...but can someone verify that the option to do a voice-over audio recording is or is not available under the free-trial of the adobe premiere pro cc 2014?
    thanks for helping out this amateur!

    This is odd, try turning the VoiceOver on your iPhone via iTunes instead by:
    Connect iPhone to your computer.
    In iTunes, select your device.
    In the Summary pane, click Configure Universal Access in the Options section.
    Select VoiceOver and click OK.
    See whether that keeps the VoiceOver on your iPhone. If not, restart your iPhone and repeat the procedure above.
