Voice Over sound muted?

Hi folks!
I'm new to the mac game, so bear with me. I'm trying to record some voice overs over a video with audio, and whenever I hit record, the main sound mutes. i can still hear the mic audio, just not the main audio. Any tips to how to unmute the main track? All the check boxes on the right side are checked. Thanks!

Hi Slacker:
Welcome to discussions!
It almost sounds like you extracted the main audio (so that it shows up on the second line in the timeline) and then you tried to record over that with the mic.
If so, do not extract the main audio, just leave it embedded in the main timeline. Then use the mic.
Or, I have completely misunderstood you, so come back and let me know.

  • Voice over sounds like coming from a toilet paper tube

OK, I was born in a poverty stricken area of Pennsylvania, and we used toilet paper tubes for toys.
More self-disclosure than you wanted, but during an interview, the questions did not come out very clear. I used the voice over tool, and the difference between the sound and the voice over is very noticeable. The voice over sounds "tinny" and distant.
I copied the sound tracks to make it louder and played with the pan and the volume, but to no avail.
    Any suggestions?

I am using a Logitech USB mic. Perhaps that is
    my problem to.
OUCH! this made me wince in sympathy pains. what you need for a decent voiceover - i do this in my edit room - are some sound blankets on the floor, a sennheiser me66 in the mic stand pointing down, above and in front of he talent, going into your mixer and then into your vtr or your mac. personally, i go into my vtr and use tape so i can turn off the computers.
that usb mic isn't gonna cut it!

  • How to set up the default voice over sounds exactly like the Alex voice?

    Hi,
Anyone know how can I find out the exactly settings of the New System Voice Over Sound that shipped with the v10.5 Leopard call Alex?
When I first opened the Voice Over set up windows, a voice called Alex greeting me and said it is the new voice of 10.5, it sounds very natural with the exactly right rate, pitch and volume.
But when I later try to go into the voice over set up menu to get the exactly sound as my default setting, I can't reproduce the same sound quality... can anyone know how to fix this?
    thanks in advance!!

I did. Their technical team knows very little about iPhones, and tried to refer me to the local Israeli dealer (iDigital) which doesn't support iphones at all, so I'm kind of stuck.
I found a few posts on the Interenet talking about using *5005*86 to program the iPhone's modem through them, but I couldn't figure what to type exactly to make it work...

  • Voice Over sounds muffled

I have Voice Over enabled on my 4th generation iPod Shuffle. I sometimes press the button on the Suffle to hear the track title and artist currently playing.
But the Voice Over voice sounds very muffled to me, and difficult to understand. It's like a woman with a bad chest cold trying to talk through a thick blanket.
Anyone else notice this? Is it normal?

Does music sound normal?  Make sure the headphones plug is fully inserted into the jack.  Also, as a test, try a different set of headphones (any type), and use VoiceOver to see of there is any difference.
If that does not help, you may want to do a Restore in the shuffle in iTunes.  The Restore button is on the shuffle's Summary screen in iTunes.  This will erase the iPod, reinstall its software, and set it to default settings.
Re-sync the shuffle, set up VoiceOver, and try using VoiceOver again.

  • Emailed File of Voice-over sounds Like it's Underwater

    Hi,
My wife just began a voice over career and just got her first gig. She recorded files over GarageBand and emailed them to the client. When we listen to them on her system, they sound great. But after e-mailing, she sounds like she's underwater or muzzled.
Is there a compression setting that we're missing? Hoping someone has some experience with this.
    Thanks so much.
    P Smith

A digital audio file shouldn't change just because you emailed it. Could be the other parties computer settings or player. You should ask them what format and settings they want the file in.
Also instead of emailing files you may want to think about another way of sending audio files. Maybe a ftp server so your clients can download them from the net and files size won't start to become a issue.

  • Switched to After effects CC today and my imported voice over sounds like buffalo bill ( very low)

    Hi guys,
Today I switched to after effects cc and I am super excited about it . Unfortunately while trying to sync my audio to animations I found that it was distorted and made my voice sound very deep and low. I read this might have been a problem a while ago but there has patch released that fixes it and I have the most up to date version of after effects cc. What am I missing?

  • Voice Over Sound Tracks

I have used the VO tool and have the track in the timeline. When importing it was set to 2 channels.
In the timeline there is 1 track. Would it be better to duplicate the final VO track and therefore have 2 tracks (presumably for stereo) and then the music soundtrack in the other 2 tracks??? In total there would then be 4 tracks. New to doing VO so any help appreciated.
    Thanks

I've never used the vo tool, preferring a decently recorded track. But think about it this way:
There is only one speaker in a vo. The sound is only coming from one place in psychoacoustic space.
Keep it in one track, pan it to wherever you want it in that space.

  • Voice Over and Touchtype on Numpad

I am using numpad keyboard for entering amounts. When I am using Voice Over and Touchtype I have to double tap to enter the value but on the standard keyboard I can do the one tap. Is there a work around for this, any help would be appreciated? I don't want my customers having a problem switching how they use different keyboards.
    thanks

I very cheaply recorded some audio with the lens cap on as I needed a little bit of a voice over
Sounds like the audio rate from the camera and the Easy Setup in FCE were mis-matched.

  • Voice over and passcode

How do you turn off voice over on when the passcode fields won't accept my passcode.  Voice over sounds out the letters attached to the numbers of my passcode.

Tap a key, then double tap it to enter that letter in the passcode field. Once in, go to Settings > General > Accessibility > VoiceOver OFF.

  • Video and sound stutters in imovie project, made up entirely of stills with voice-over and music. I'm using iMovie 9.0.4 on a PowerBook 2GHz running 10.6.8 with 274 GB of space free. Size of project is 588 Gb.

This particular project is made up entirely of still photos with Ken Burns moves and dissolves between each photo. As I got further into the project, the voice over audio started stuttering, and now it hardly plays at all with a motorboat sound when it does play. I've also started added music with the dsame audio problem. I'm running on a Mac PowerBook 2GHz using System 10.6.8. I have IMovie version 9.0.4. The project file size is 588 Mb. I have 274 Gb of hard disc space left. I have shut off all other running programs and even disconnected from the internet, but nopthing seems to help. I acts like it's a memory problem of some sort, but all other applications run fine.

I don't hear the cursor sounds and boundary sounds while using voice over. Is there a way to fix this in settings? I have I Pad 3.

you need camera raw 6.7 or better.

  • Interference/ Crackling sound while using voice over...

    Hi folks.
    I'm new to all this "ipod-stuff". I purchased a ipod nano 5G (16GB) lately.
I was playing around with the voice over settings today and accidently discovered the following:
I plugged the ipod to an ipod compatible receiver (Pioneer VSX-918 V) via the ipod-usb cable. The ipod was recognized without any problems and the receiver took over the ipod-controls. So far so good.
It is possible to change the settings of the receiver, that it won't take over the ipod-control, so i can operate my ipod the "normal way" via scrollwheel/ ipod-menu and so on...
While i was playing a song, i accidently pushed the center button and the ipod started to read out the current song and faded out the song itself just a little. While reading out I got a crackling interference like a bad tuned radio station, which stopped after the ipod had finished reading out the song.
I tried the whole thing again, this time I paused the song and pushed the center-button for voice over. The ipod red out the current song with any interference...
I tried again, plugged in plugged out, restart and so on...you know the deal. :/ Nothing changed...
    What's going on here?
Receiver bad? ipod bad? Voice over is kinda crappy anyway, but is here something wrong with a chip or something?
The german apple support couldn't help either and told me that this behaviour is normal, 'cause the voice over "voices" are kinda bad.
    Summary:
Connected via USB to the receiver:
Crackling while playing a song and activating voice over...
No crackling while pausing playback and activating voice over...
No crackling while playing songs without using voice over...
Connected via 3,5 mm audio jack to any device/ earphones:
    No interference at all.
    greetings

Thx for helping me on this, i really appreciate that.
The "crackling problem" is gone, but i got another one.
I got a more or less loud "popping sound" when skipping tracks forward or backward, or when i manually select a track from a list and the ipod starts playing it.
At first i didn't really realize it via the headphones from apple, since they aren't very good but it's there, too.
But playing songs via my hifi-system i became pretty aware of that "initializing" like sound.
I resetted my ipod via the method told on the apple support page (Hold on/off -->Menu/Centerbutton) and updated it in iTunes again, but it didn't go away.
    Greetings

  • GB vs Sound Studio 3 for Voice over

I had some experience with Sound Forge on the PC side. I need a flexible editor for professional voice over recording and editing...giving me ability to record, edit from multiple takes on a single track, listen closely (and possibly loop small chunks of audio), edit words closely, take out breaths, etc. Anyone with some experience in these matters steer me to Garageband or Sound Studio 3 as rtgew best choice?. I do not seem to have as much control over the placement and control of the cursor with GB.... I seem to be chasing it all over the waveform. But then again, maybe its my own techno-moronity. Please help me, my-smarter-than-I-am-on-these-things friends!
    MacBookPro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Your help is gushingly appreciated.
You're quite welcome, always happy help out a fellow NEer
I have not used version 5 of Peak, but I've been using older versions for, hmmm, maybe 5 years. I'm not particularly fond of Bias software's tech support, however the software is really good, and I've put many hours into it and achieved great results.
Still, don't over look the free options. Lots of people like Audacity, and since it's free, I'd suggest trying it. Then if you don't find it works for you, try something else.

  • Voice Over in FCPX makes no sound

I recorded a Voice Over in FCPX- and I can see the waveform but it makes no sound.  It moves the meters but makes no sound.  There is other sound playing.  What's up with that? any angels?

Just to be sure, select the audio clip and press 'V' (this activates or deactivates a clip). Does this make any difference?
Otherwise, I suggest you try trashing your preferences.
Unexplained faults like this can often be fixed by clearing out FCP X's preferences (for some reason, they get knotted up from time to time).
Download Digital Rebellion's Preference Manager (free, simple to use, and perfectly safe, both to download and use).
With Preference Manager, you can backup the Prefs first, then if trashing makes no difference, you can restore all your settings.
If you trash them and don't restore them, you will need to manually restore all your FCP X settings again, so it's a great idea to backup Preferences from time to time when FCP X is working well, then if they get corrupted you can ditch the bad prefs and restore from your (Digital Rebellion) backup.
Can't guarantee it, but it's worth a try.
