Voice Pitch

I was recording some audio from a sound board into my computer and the voice at the begining started off great. But while i was recording i switched it from stereo to mono and after i finished recording i noticed that the voice was in a high pitch like when you fast forward someone's voice when they are talking. Is there anyway to fix the high pitch of the voice?

With great respect to other suggestions <G> you may want to try the following before you lay out money for another programme
1 - Click on the audio file of the vocal you want to change so that you open Sample Editor
2 - Go to Factory>Time and Pitch Machine and play around with the options there after reading the manual a bit.
If you just want to deepen( or sharpen) the vocal by a semi-tone or so then this Machine works brilliantly. I find it invaluable for correcting the odd wrong note which is slightly out of tune.. or in an instrumental solo, if someone has played a note a semi tone flat or sharp.
You just drag the box "Transposition" down or up by 100 cents and you get the half step difference. When you play the track back it sounds perfect after such a correction. More than a tone ( step) it can begin to sound weird, or more than a few notes in a row. ( Or perhaps I just dont know enough about it yet but the Time and Pitch Machine is definitely something to experiment with).
You can also play around with the timbre...

  • Changing voice pitch to sound like chipmunk

I understand one has to go to the timeline view and then it is easier but i cannot seem to find how to do this in IMOVIE 08. I just want to make a video where my voice is really high pitched

The movie sound track behaves slightly different from normal tracks.
For me the following did work:
Silence your movie track by clicking the speaker icon in the track head
Create a new basic  real instruments track.
Copy the regions from the movie track to this new track.
On this new track you can set all filters as you like.
    To set a chipmunk voice:
    select the new track
    open the Inspector (cmd-I)
click the edit-tab, and click a free field to add an effect, select "vocal transformer" and set it to "Chipmunk"
To be able to answer your question why your helium breath sounds "echoy", it would help to know what kind of sound your movie has (music, vocals?) and what kind of real instrument track you used for the audio movie track.

  • How to change the pitch of your voice???

I've already tried "Voice Transformer" and Pitch Shifter II but i'm not getting the desired result for lowering my voice pitch without sounding robotic.
Does anyone know of a better program like say Peak 4 that allow me to lower the pitch of my voice, like that deep voiceover we always hear on any movie trailer at the cinema.
    Awaiting feedback!

The voice transformer effects are fun toys, and may work okay for some musical applications, but they're not convincing for spoken word.
I'd suggest you keep it simple and use ordinary EQ. Try the Channel Equalizer effect.

  • IPhone 6 Plus IOS v8.1 Slow Motion BROKEN

Film in either of the two slow motion speeds and plays back ok on phone.  I put the files in the computer (grab the raw file via explorer), on Win 7 Professional, and played with both windows media player AND Quicktime player (up to date players) and the videos play either no slow motion, plays alternating between fast and slow, one time it played slow but had normal voice pitch, other times played slow with low voice pitch.  On youtube, they don't play in slow motion.  One I shot vertically (which I did just as a test) and it was sideways in the computer, however, youtube rotated it so it's vertical but it is not in HD and it does not play back in slow motion.  This same file that was sideways in my computer stopped playing after about 2 seconds in the computer, but played through ok in the phone.  I noticed that as the video plays in the phone, there are blue vertical lines below the left/right scrub/scroll bar for the video.  This can be set to play only a portion in slow motion.  But WHY does it start each video with the ends nudged in so the first 3 sec is regular speed and the last 2 are also reg speed also w/the slo-mo in between?  It defaults to this each time an you have to spread it out to get all slow motion..
In Win XP, some of the video files don't show up.  It shows .aae files with corresponding numbers to the videos, but most of the videos are not there.
I think this is a huge software bug that needs to be tested.  I updated the os on my new phone before I put anything into my phone.  Everything else has been perfect till this.  HELP!

You said, "...plays back ok on phone."  That's where Apple's software stops.  Your problems with Win 7, Win XP, Quicktime, and YouTube need to be addressed on forums for those programs and/or sites.  Presumably the issue has already been resolved by users on those sites, with different solutions for each.

  • Qosmio X870-1006X: fast movie playback from HDD

hi, i'm new here and I want to asa question..
    I recently bought a qosmio.
It was working great, until one day I tried to watch a movie from HDD.
It was great and all but then I realized that the voice pitch is higher.
It started to sound a little bit like chipmunk and the video play speed is faster than it should (maybe this is the cause of the sound problem))... but when I try too play a movie from a DVD disc it works perfectly fine.
I tried every video I have in my HDD, and every single one has the same problem.
    Can anyone help me?

In your case I would recommend checking the Player settings you are suing to playback the movie clips from the HDD.
As additional option might be the usage and test of different player software; as mentioned by Keany, the VLC player is one of the best and freeware players you can use. It handles almost all possible file formats.
In case this fast playback and high voice would still appear using different tools, I would recommend checking the HDD for possible malfunction.

  • 30fps Converted to 25fps. New Duration 20% Longer But Audio Sounds OK???

Could be a Compressor or FCP question!
I have some 1280x720p M-JPEG footage recorded at 30fps from a still camera and unfortunately I live in PAL country.
So I made 2 ProRes presets in Compressor to "alter" the footage to 25fps. The Frame Control settings are shown below.
Note the "Rate Conversion" details at the bottom of each preset.
The first one results in a 20% increase in the duration whilst the second one plays back in the original video's time.
The second one takes more than 10 times longer than the original video to convert, whilst the first one takes around 65% of the original video's time to convert.
Now here is the odd thing!
The 20% extended video made quickly with the first preset SOUNDS OK !
I was expecting the dialogue to sound dreadfully slow with a noticeable lowering of the voice pitch.
In fact, only when I compare it to the original very carefully, do I detect the slightest hint of it being slower.
Any person listening normally would be unaware it had been slowed down.
    As for the pitch . . . . . . that is absolutely perfect . . . . . . exactly the same as the original.
Can anyone explain these peculiar results or am I simply hallucinating?
Incidentally, I can detect a slight slowing of the action, but as it doesn't have a serious effect for the type of video I shoot, I think I will stick with the quick conversion for most subjects.

  • Tecra S1 - Incapable of handling streaming video?

I am on the point of buying a little-used but dated (2003) Tecra S1for use by my aunt. She watches BBC iPlayer, etc. a *lot*. I test-ran iPlayer on it and the d'load was fine but the video itself was slow, not stuttering but slow, with voices pitched a semitone or so lower!
I compared it with a 2008 Mac which ran fine (of course). It was running on mains power. The laptop's slowness was unaffected by using wifi or wired connections. ITVplayer suffered too. My b'band connection is exemplary: it is cable and was tested immediately after and during the tests and was running at +9MB, probably because the rest of the neighbourhood was watching the rugger.
I understand that the min specs for iPlayer are 1GHz and 512 MB. This laptop is 1.4GHz and 512 MB (I will test it with 1GB later) so it should be OK.
Anyone else experienced slowish speech and video like this? Did you find a way around it?

Infuriating! A day later it just worked. The drivers were all up to date before this incident. I can only surmise that something was interfering with the software and it just 'went away'. I hate it when that happens.
Many thanks for responding. I apologise for my very late reply.

  • How can I add vocal effects other than the 9 Voice options? (I can't shift pitch)

    Hello!
I am making the switch from PC and am just trying to lower the pitch of a vocal track by at least an octave; I just got a MBP last week and am running GB 10.0.2. I can't find any info on similar problems that is helpful; most solutions I've come across show that when the track is selected, there should be a pitch shift bar with a sliding button, but I do not have that. I read a lot of people saying something about the track being purple or not, but I'm not sure if that's relative to the version I have or if that has anything to do with what's happening. When I select the track, in the little area toward the lower left when "Track" is selected, (what is that space called?) where the pitch shift option is for other people, I only have a sliding bar for Pitch Correction, and a checkbox for Limit to Key and Enable Flex. When "Region" is selected, it just shows the name of the region and there are no options. Another question I have is how to change the pitch of midi sounds? When the keyboard is open on the screen I have tried moving the little octave shifter, but it assigns the sounds that are on the keyboard at different locations if I move it, so it changes the sound completely. A couple of them shift one octave up or down, but there are no actual controls..
I'm mostly just dabbling with EDM/trap/Hiphop tracks at the moment, but am confused about whether or not there are other vocal effects and controls other than the preset Voice options in the instrument area (Bright vocal, Classic vocal, compressed vocal, Edge vocal, etc.)? I'm not going to be using GB forever, but are there not any other options like for current rap/trap production (phaser, balance, EQ, auto tune, choppers, actual voice altering effects, etc.) [preferably without buying extra things]? And not only vocals, but editing effects for all sounds.. If so, how do I get to them? And if not I know I should at least be able to lower or raise the pitch of a vocal recording... There are some pretty legit electronic instruments that are exactly the kind of sound I'm going for so I was surprised to not see an equally simple to access vocal effects board or something. Any additional tips for a n00b electronic music producer would also be greatly appreciated! Thank you for any help!

In GarageBand 10 you can no longer change a track with an audio file to a "purple" audio recording, as it has been possible in GarageBand '11.
Even, if you can make the transpose slider visible by enlarging the the track editor panel, the slider will be disabled.
What you can do however, is either add an AuPItch filter  from the audioUnit panel or to convert your audio file to loop and to admit from the Loop Browser.
In the new GarageBand you add the AuPitch filter from the Smart Controls.
Enlarge the SmartControl panel by dragging the dividing line upwards, until you see the Audio Units brick, then add an Apple Audio Unit and set it to AuPitch.
Or create a loop from the audio file. Select the region in the track and use the command "File: Add region to Loop library". You need to trim the filet an exact number of measures.
Set the current key and tempo, name the loop, and save the loop. Make sure, that one-shot loop is not enabled.
Now add it from the loop browser to a new track and delete your old track. The search field in the Loop browser will help you to find the loop quickly.
You will be able to transpose the sample  like any regular loop.

  • How can I remove high-pitched distortion from voice-over?

    Hi folks,
I'm completely new to fixing audio. I am making a short film, and for a voice-over, I recently had to do an interview over the phone (the subject lives in a very remote location). Actually, I used GoToMeeting, we called into the conference call feature from our phones, and I recorded the meeting into a wmv file. Then I re-encoded it using Expression Encoder so I could pull it into Adobe Audition.
I am attaching a short phrase (extracted as a .wav file) from the interview in the hope that someone can tell me how to improve the quality of the sound. I have Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Audition, both CS6 and CC versions.
Short voice recording - Creative COW
    1. Can anyone tell me, please, how to get rid of the high-pitched "ringing" kind of distortion that we hear on each of her loudest syllables? Also, does this particular type of distortion have a name? I kept finding articles on fixing sound, but wasn't sure what I'm dealing with here, so I wasn't sure which techniques were likely to work. Tried a bunch, and the overall sound got better, but so far nothing has fixed that high-pitched distortion.
    2. After getting rid of that ringing distortion, what are your recommendations for making the voice recording sound as rich, smooth and full as possible? In real life, this woman has a BEAUTIFUL, rich voice. But the recording sounds like a flat telephone call (because it is).
    Thanks in advance,
    Mary

Well, I don't think there's any miracles to be had here.  As you say, it's a telephone call and I fear that, since phone lines filter out anything above about 4k, there's no way of replacing it.
I had a look at your file in spectral view and you can clearly see the original material going, as expected, up to about 4 kilohertz--but, above that, there's a generalised area of noise.  My suspicion--and it's only a suspicion--is that during your double conversions (to wmv then through a third party app to something else) one of them has added the extra noise as it your original was full bandwidth.
Anyhow, best I could do was use the Marquee tool in Spectral View, draw a rectangle around the upper area (you can see a clear boundary between the programme content and the random extra frequencies) then just delete everything above just over 4 khz then delete.
As for making a phone call sound full and rich, if there was a way to do it, when I was working in TV we could have saved hundreds of thousands a year by using phones instead of far more expensive circuits!

  • Mic Connected through USB adapter gives High pitch voice in playback

My mic is connected through a usb adapter but when i play my track back in Garage ban after recording I get this high pitch fast chipmunk voice.
And My mic works fine with quicktime audio recording or other audio recording software.

most likely the sample rate of your audio interface is too low, it must be set to 44100 in Audio MIDI Setup utility.
similar to the issue of an imported file playing too fast/high pitched:

I noticed something weird with my Logic Express 7. When I import an audio voice file. The pitch seems to be lower in Logic when I play the file than compared to the original file. The only thing I can think of right off is that the original is a higher sampling rate file than what you have set for LE.

  • Adjusting pitch and speed of a voice recording

    Good afternoon,
We are preparing anapplication that will be allowing a user
to speak into a microphone and using a handful of presets allow
them to adjust the pitch of their own recording. Rather then start
from the ground up on this I am wondering if their are any
components floating around that already do this that you may know
of? I've searched, but with no luck. Just want to make sure I am
    not missing anything.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
For slowing down, there's the time-stretch function in the process menu. And there's either pitch-shifter ii under the process -> effects -> pitch or the OS X version of a pitch shifter under process -> effects -> MacOS.
For these types of effects to sound natural, it really depends on the source material and how much you're trying to manipulate it. Obviously the more you manipulate, the less natural it sounds.
    Hope this helps!

  • When recording my voice and other peoples sometimes are high pitch and sometimes low pi

It will also be somewhat choppy. I tried reinstalling drivers.
I can listen to music without any problem but voice communication seems messed up.

The new expensive earphones wont work. I have tested this with Bowers & Wilkins P5. They are the best and one of the most expensive headphones you can get in the market.
The sound was awesome on my iPhone 4 and iPad 2. However starting with iPhone 4S Apple has started to use low power Cirrus Logic Sound Chip. The chip compromises on the loudness without giving up the quality of the music. However I am used to listening at full volumes on my iPhone 4 and iPad 2. The music on the new iPad dusnt really make me happy
