Voice Recognition and iPhone 5S

Most of the time when I’m using my iPhone 5 (32 GB) it’s in association with voice recognition, e.g. sending emails, sending texts, dictating notes, etc.
As you know, iOS 7 allows you to dictate for about 15-20 seconds before cutting you off in order to process what you have just said.
Just wondering if the iPhone 5S extends that recording time or if it is strictly in association with iOS 7? I would love to be able to double this recording time, if possible.
Anyone know if iOS 8 is going to allow more recording time…?

Since we are just users like you, all we know about iOS 8 is what has been publicly announced.

  • Bluetooth Phone Logic and Voice Recognition

Just switched to the Z30. Love the phone hate the rediculous instructions that have to be given to make a phone call. With the Torch it was "Call Joe Smith Mobile1 (or Home1 etc)" and it was done. Now even after answering 5 questions and listening to the software read out numerous phone numbers it still ask if you want to call. Of course I want to make the call that is the whole purpose of the exercise.
Whoever thought this was an improvement well can't say how I really feel.
Then there are numbers that I had called regularly with the Torch without any problems with voice recognition and now it is just easier to pull the car over and dial manually than repeat the name 10 times without any success.
BIGGGGGG step backwards with the bluetooth functionality.
    Please fix this mess.

The 'Play voice tag" option only comes out in the contacts which has the pacman symbol by side of the number.
-You would have to open the contacts till you see the details of the contact, if you have more then one entry in the contact you will notice a pacman by the side of the first or default number > select options > you will have the play voice tag.
To use the voice tags is a bit tricky, it works best in a quite area and actually the phone learns how you prenounce every time you use it, so the more you use it the better it recognises.
-Try playing the voice tag to adapt to it as well, it helps.
Mark me a KUDOS if this has helped...

  • N82 Voice Recognition problem

    Hi there,
I own the phone for almost one year now and I'm very satisfied with it. I just have this problem from the beginning, although I started noticing it more intensely just lately: voice recognition does not work in contacts. It works when I say "bluetooth" for example but whenever I name a contact it says "no matching" - tried to translate from greek. I have ~400 contacts in my phone and none of them has the "pacman" icon on the side when i open them in the catalog. I tried to format the device twice, entered the contacts from outlook and from pc suite, now trying from the backup in my microsd card, but nothing worked... I'm totally frustrated... Anyone can help? Is it the phone's fault or mine? What can I do? The phone has the latest firmware installed and used for private and business matters.

    G'day,
I believe I may know your problem. You've read the manual and it says to add voice commands. You only need to do this though if the commands aren't active. If they already have that little face beside them then you're already set (so just skip this step).
You simply have to go through the voice training (Go to settings, then phone, then voice recognition and voice recog. training) and once you're done (or if you've done it already) then just go back to standby mode (that's simply the main screen; where you go when you exit the menu). Then simply hold down the top right button for about a second and that should take you to a screen saying 'Speak Now'.
At that point you just have to say a command (such as 'General' to activate the general profile) and it should recognise it. For a full list of commands just go to Menu, Settings, Phone, Voice Recognition and Voice commands.

  • Why would make a voice recognition software and not give it the ability to unlock your iphone for you?

Seriously why would you make a voice recognition software on a phone that can't unlock your phone for you? That makes absolutly no sense. Maybe you should consider adding that feature in your next update.

Nothing is difficult for the person who doesn't have to do it or doesn't understand it. I would never use it on a device based on the current state of the art; it would be too easy to spoof. Keep in mind that Siri does not do speech recognition on the phone; it does it on Apple's (actually Nuance's) servers; it sends your input over a data connection to the server where the work is actually done, then the reply is sent back. Using the same technology for speaker identification would mean keeping a database of potentially 500 million users and being able to search it fast enough to unlock your phone. AND it would require a data connection. So you couldn't unlock your phone in Airplane mode, for example.
So that means that it would have to be able to recognize your voice entirely on the phone. I'm reasonably sure that's not what Samsung does; I suspect what they do is speaker independent recognition of your chosen passphrase, possibly taking into account tonality. Which means that anyone who heard you unlock your phone with a voice in the same pitch range as you could unlock it after stealing it. It also wouldn't work very well in a noisy environment.
I love Touch ID. It works perfectly almost every time, I don't have to say anything (which is a great convenience when using your phone in a meeting), and it's faster than speaking a phrase. And to use a voice password you would still have to push a button to wake the phone; on my 5S pushing the button wakes AND unlocks the phone. I don't have to say a thing.

  • Iphone 6 voice recognition not working

I have an iphone 6 and have had it since October 2014.  For about a month now, the voice recognition option does not work.  I like to use it rather than texting, and emails when I'm on the go and it's frustrating that I can't figure out what's wrong.  I have looked through other threads to try and figure out what else I might do.  So far I've:
    rebooted (hard reset)
double checked that all my settings are correct re Siri and voice recognition
checked that it is not a problem with earphones v. no earphones.  Doesn't appear to make any difference
    Siri doesn't work either
Checked the microphone to make sure it's not blocked or something
I can use the phone feature just fine.
It just seems to be the voice recognition feature that doesn't want to cooperate.  If you have any ideas please let me know!
I'm taking it to the Apple Store next week since I have run out of my own ideas... Thanks!

  • IPhone 4s Voice Recognition Stopped Working

Voice recognition/Siri worked yesterday but is not working today.  I have powered it down multiple times, deleted new apps, turned Siri on and off but nothing has helped.  Suggestions?

I use voice to text all the time.  It worked yesterday but not today.  I am not a big Siri user but tried it today as well. It acts as if it is listening but does not respond.  I have also tried using my Apple headphones with microphone but that does not work either.

  • IPhone 5 - Voice Recognition Does Not Work

The voice recognition does not work in any application.  When you speak you see the waveform change following your speech.  In Siri, it even recognizes when you stop speaking. In apps like Messages, the progress circle just goes around and around without stopping until you kill the app.  In Siri, the progress circle goes around and around but after a while, Siri comes on and says she can not fulfill the request and to try later.  I think I searched every possible setting.

It is covered under warranty.  Make a Genius bar appointment.

  • Is there a way to turn on/off 3G for iPhone 4S with a voice command and/or without Siri?

For example, I almost always have 3G turned off on my iPhone 4S so that I won't use any of my cellular data when not needed. However, when I'm driving, and I need to use Maps for directions, it would be nice to unlock the iPhone by voicing my PIN and using a voice command to turn on 3G and accessing Maps.
Is there already a way to do this? I know that accessing applications via Siri will be capable when iOS 6 is released.
Voice Control should also be set to the default voice-command option when Siri is either off or when the iPhone does not currently have access to the internet. Because Siri requires the internet, Voice Control could be used to unlock the iPhone and turn on 3G. Once 3G is turned on, Siri can take over (if Siri is turned on in Settings) to access an application, like Maps. When finished, there should be a voice command that will "turn off 3G."
So, here's how the whole process could work:
    1) hold Home button to access Voice Control and respond with PIN to unlock the iPhone - "one, two, three, four" or "twelve, thirty-four" for PIN 1234 (I'm not sure if people would want to say, "one thousand, two-hundred, thirty-four")
    2) once unlocked, it should intuitively stay on Voice Control so the user can say "turn on 3G"
    3) if Siri is enabled, it will take over Voice Control; if Siri is disabled, Voice Control will remain active, bu you should also have the voice-command option to "turn on Siri" (now that 3G is on)
    4) a voice command to "launch Maps" - I know that this will capable with iOS 6
    5) when done, hold Home button and voice a command to "turn off 3G" via Siri
Could this feature please be integrated into iOS 6?
In terms of driving and accessing Maps, this would be a lot safer and a lot easier.
    Thanks!

  • Voice recognition no longer works in my 2013 Chevy Traverse since updating to 6.1.4 on my iPhone 5. Any ideas for me?

Voice recognition worked perfect in my new car until about a month ago. Thinking it was when I updated to 6.1.4. Now it never understands what I am saying when trying to call one of my contacts.   If I say a number to call, it can understand that, but not when I say a name. Tried deleting and re-pairing. Didn't work. Tried pairing another iphone5 using same op system and had same problem.

Agreed. Same thing here. Just bought a late model Alpine INE-S920Hd and it is all kinds of broken. I think this is happening because Apple shifted the music and video. Totally buggy. Bluetooth refuses to work properly, too. A2dp keeps stealing the audio from Pandora in the Alpine interface. The ipod controls dont work at all.

  • My 2 month old Iphone is losing it's mind.  It's randomly turning on Voice Command and calling people or turning on the IPod.  It freezes up and won't let me go back to the home screen.

My 2 month old IPhone started randomly turning on Voice Command and calls people and turns on the IPod.  It freezes up and won't let me push the home button.  Any suggestions?

OK, I reset it several times and it worked fine all day yesterday.  Today when I turned on the bluetooth it went back to the same problem.  Voice Control comes on and the home button won't work at all.  I have gone through the reset many times and it isn't working.  How do I restore firmware as you suggested?

  • I have an iphone 4, how do I take stored voice messages and record them to a stick?

I have an iphone 4, how do I take stored voice messages and record them to a stick?  A family member passed away and I want to keep their voice.

    Hey there!
Sadly, there is no way to do this.
I'm sad to hear you've lost a familymember.
Try this: Move in a quiet-room. Play his/her voice over speaker of your iphone and record it with free recording-softwarefor windows or mac.
Hope this will help you keeping the memory.

  • How do I  hook up Koss CS 100 voice recognition headset to my iMac and make it work?

I just got a Koss CS 100  voice recognition headset to hook up to my iMac.  It has 2 plugs 3.5mm diameter (one for the mic and one for the earphones.  I cannot get the mic to work.  I have tried
Preferences > Sound > input > audio port line in ....external microphone does not work
Preferences > Dictation and Speech > line in  (and in automatic as well)......Ext Mic does not work
I have tried every possible combo of above.
How do I make these work with my iMac so I may improve speech recognition for transcription of letters.  I am using the Apple speech recognition software supplied with OSX / Mavericks/
    iMac  OSX 10.9.4
    2.4 GHz Intel core2 Duo
    4GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

Moat likely the input impedance and/or level are wrong for the input port. You will probably need some sort of sound card plug-in like the iMic Support | Griffin Technology. Or search Google for USB sound cards such as Newegg.com - usb sound card mac.
If you plan to use Dragon Speech Recognition software, then they provide a headset as part of the purchase. See Dragon Dictate for Mac.
