Voice recorder that's OSX compat.?

I know this question has come up before, but I haven't found an answer to my question.
I use an Olympus DS-330 voice recorder and it's Mac-compatible. It's got a limit, set to high-quality, of 4 hours or so, which isn't enough. It looks as though Olympus has basically abandoned Mac. (My recorder is four years old.)
I don't own an iPod and it seems like overkill for my purposes. Anyone have any recommendations for a Mac-compatible voice recorder that will record 8 hours on high-quality settings, and that's in the $150 and under range?

I switched this from "answered" because I'd like to hear more. Anyone have experience with the new Olympus OSX-compat. recorders, or other good Mac-compatible recorders?
I'm a reporter, so I'd especially like to hear how they work in that context -- one on one interviews, small groups w/ambient noise.
The DS-2 and WS-300M seem likely choices, but is the OSX integration smooth and useful? Olympus seems to have moved from using its proprietary DSS player to Windows media. Can you slow down playback on that?
Any other recorders worth using? I want at least 8-10 on a high-quality setting.

Your welcome.  If you haven't seen it, the full manual is here:  iPhone User Guide (For iOS 5.1 Software).

I was transferring a voice recording from quick voice to my mac using Diskaid. All successful but i decided to rename the numbered recording with an easy to find name and it changed into a document that will not open or change back to its original format.

Have you tried importing the wav files you did find to iTunes?

No.  Not unless you did a backup that included that voice memo, then you could restore from that backup.

  • How do I make a simple voice recording that can be attached to an email?

I want to record a short message, mp3 or any format is fine, and attach it to an email. I've tried opening Garage Band to do it, and downloaded Audacity, but I have no idea how to use either one. I have a microphone that plugs into the audio port, and know how to switch to "use audio port for sound input" in preferences. But I want a simple command that says "start recording" instead of the complicated control panels I see in the two programs I've looked at.

Had it before GB existed; I use other audio software for other tasks, but this one is probably the most easy to use app (of any kind) I've ever used. Click, speak, click, click. Done, with file sitting on my desktop.

  • How To Get A Sony Digital Voice Recorder MSV File To Play On Mac?

    Hi...
I have a Sony Digital Voice Recorder that (I guess) puts it’s recording’s into a MSV format. I’ve done a Google search and found conversion software...
But does anyone have any recommendations or is my Mac capable of the conversion with it’s assortment of software already?
    Thank you in advance
Comments, suggestions and opinions are appreciated.....

    Hi Catharsis,
Switch for OSX does NOT convert MSV files. The only way to do it is with something like CrossOver or Parallells with a windows installation and use the Sony software.
Had I known this prior, I would not have bought the Sony product which in all other respects is a good piece of equipment. (ICS MX20)

  • Digital Voice Recorder for MAC?

I recently switched from PC to MAC and am very happy I did.
I just have 1 thing that still need to use my PC for - I use a digital recorder almost daily, and then email the recordings to different people.
I use a Sony so I can't use it on my MAC.
I am looking for a digital voice recorder that is as easy to use as my current one, I just plug it into my PC, open the software it came with, and it converts it to MP3 and then I attach it to the specified email and away it goes.
I tried an Olympus but the effort it would have taken to convert it to MP3 was ridiculous.
    I would love some suggestions...
    Thanks!
    Glenyce

I use an older Olympus myself, rather similar to this one, and though it records in WAV format rather than mp3 it is really pretty simple converting the files if you wish. The ones that Dave Sawyer links to look better for your purposes , though.
Sony make Mac compatible recorders which record directly into mp3 these days, too, though. See here, for example. Or this one.
eww's suggestion looks good , too.
There are a lot of choices out there. The best selection depends on what quality level you require for the recording, how important small size is, whether you will be using external mics, how much storage capacity you need, how much you are prepard to spend, etc etc. Might be easier to refine recommendations if you could provide a bit more info about such things.

  • PC voice recorder recording into Mac iTunes

I have an Olympus voice recorder that said it would work on my Mac but it doesn't.  So I use it on a pc.  But my iTunes is on my Mac and I'd really like to get a recording off of the recorder and into iTunes.  I tried mailing the recording from a pc, opening and downloading it on my Mac but it comes up as garbled text.

Save the WMA files onto the Mac.  Play them with VLC or install Flip4Mac on your computer to play them with Quicktime player.
VLC media player - http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ - general media player that plays just about anything.
Perian codecs for Quicktime - http://www.perian.org - plugins to add functionality to Quicktime for playing additional audio and video formats
Quicktime audio problems, Perian, VLC - http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9013669 - read note about uninstalling prior DIVX support before installing Perian.
    Free Flip4mac QuickTime player components - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx
    Flip4Mac - http://www.telestream.net/
After installation a new Flip4Mac pane will appear in System Preferences.  Make sure you set the boxes to ensure that it will play WMV files in Quicktime.  There is a free version but they don't make that very clear (I wonder why?).  To do conversion vs. just playback you have to use the paid version.
Alternatively, try converting them (there will be quality loss):
Switch (free basic version) - http://www.nch.com.au/switch/index.html
    All2MP3 - http://download.cnet.com/All2MP3/3000-2140_4-190407.html - mixed success with WMA

  • Voice recorder

Hi I hope someone can help me, I'm looking to purchase a voice recorder that is compatible with a mac.  Does anyone know of a good voice recorder that's not difficult to work with and doesn't cost me an arm and leg.  I want to purchase it for school and lectures and still be able to use it with my bose head set as well.  I've looked into olympus 802, would that work with any Mac produce?  Thank you to anyone who can help me in advance it will be much appreciated.

have several such voice recorders, the best for the money is the H2N ZOOM recorder
next would be the Sony line.
all connect via USB and work with any Mac.

  • Looking for help finding a digital recorder that's compatible

I am looking to purchase a digital voice recorder that's compatible with my MacBook Pro. I want to record voice, import it to my Mac and then post it on the web. I don't want to have to buy software and install it if I don't have to. I bought an Olympus but its files don't appear compatible. Are there models that are? If so, which ones? Thank you.

I might have been wrong and it's .wma files, but you can convert them with free conversion software. My Olympus is a DS30 which they don't sell any more.
But: I read that with your model, you can switch between .wma and .mp3 format, which would make it ideal for transferring files into GB. Maybe you should dig into the manual!

  • How do I upload a digital voice recording to iTunes 10?

I have a new Olympus VN8100 digital voice recorder that I used the other day to record a meeting.  The instructions tell you how to hook it up to a Mac and how to dismount it, but not what to do in between to upload the recording to a computer.
I did manage to burn the recording to a CD-R, but I can't find  an "Import CD" option in the File menu, so I haven't been able to store it on my Mac.  When I select "Add to Library...", neither the burned CD-R nor the VN8100 icon shows up in the list of Desktop items.
I can't even figure out how to play back the CD I burned to make sure it burned successfully--iTunes Help doesn't offer anything useful and the tutorials don't cover that.
I assumed I could put a spoken recording on my computer with the iTunes application, but maybe that's changed with iTunes 10?  Can anyone walk me through this?  Thanks so much for your help!

  • Advice on voice recorder attachments?

We have to replace an Olympus digital Voice Recorder that was lost.
Our primary goal is record lectures, classes, etc.
We have an iPod with color display (photos, no video) that was purchased late in 2005.
Are there any of these products that will work well for this purpose? I see iTalk (which seems to have vanished from the Belkin web site?!) iMic, iTalk, iPod Microphone Adapter, iPod Voice Recorder, TuneTalk... And that's just Belkin products...
Any recommendations for these products for recording lectures?
    Thanks!
    Mark

There's no bass settings adjustments on the ICD-AX412 Digital Voice Recorder. It is recommended to attach a tripod (not supplied) or opening the stand on the rear and placing the IC recorder at a more upright angle on a table when recording a music performance (e.g., concerts) so you can adjust the angle of the IC recorder and the built-in microphones more precisely.
Also, you cannot modify the Scene Select settings (page 34 of the manual). If you want to change the setting items, such as REC Mode (page 74), Mic Sensitivity (page 75), etc., for recording situations, use the menu to change each item of recording settings.

  • E65 voice recorder going haywire!

Please help! My nokia e65 has started going crazy, it keeps popping up with a voice recorder, that asks you to say someones name. It started last night when it was charging, and would just randomly start. It was annoying, and i needed to sleep, so i closed the slider, and locked it, which was a mistake because now there is 5 hours worth of it popping up every second. Can someone please tell me how to shut it down, because my phone is not usuable until i do, because it keeps popping up every single second!!
    Thanks

The same is happening to mine. Nokia have reloaded software but the problem is still there and they have it in their workshop again. Did you get your problem sorted and if so how?
Do you sync from a mac by any chance?

  • Sony voice recorder

I have a Sony digital voice recorder that records in .dvf format. The download software is for PC. I have moved to Mac and no longer have my pc and cann't download the recordings from the device to my mac. Is there any way of downloading them so they play on my mac?

I need to know about this, too. I am getting desperate since there's a file I HAVE to access and I need to download a specific program (windows based) to do the conversion, and I can't!

  • Connecting digital voice recorder

My friend bought a cheap digital voice recorder that only has a headphone output. Is there a way she can connect it to her iMac so she can copy a recording to her iMac and edit it there?
    Thanks.

I thought the level from the headphone jack would be way too strong. Doesn't she need an attenuator or something?
