Voice recording application

Hi there,
Is there any application in OSX to record voice directly into an MP3 file? Which program should I use to do that?
Thank you in advanced!

  • Classic II microphone, voice record

I got an Apple microphone for my Classic II like the one it came with originally. But I can't get it to record a sound.
When I bring up the Alert Sounds and try to add a new one and hit Record I get a bunch of hissing.
When I try to open the Voice Record application it says that the program can't be run on this Mac.
Is something broken or am I missing something?

    Dr Zaius,
"Is something broken or am I missing something? "
Probably neither. About a year ago a fellow in England asked the same question. I tore apart two mac audio ports and took pictures. Bottom line is that Apple changed jacks and the microphones do not interchange. One is longer than the other. (The pictures are on a different machine. I can post them later.)
Pull the plug out 1/8th of an inch and see if it works. Otherwise, the plug you have may need to go IN 1/8th of an inch farther than the plastic allows.
Here is the Apple reference with pictures and better explanations - they just give pictures of the plugs, no pictures of the inside of the socket :

    Good luck.

  • What is the best way to do voice recording in a Macbook Pro?

What is the best way to do voice recording in a Macbook Pro.I want to voice record and sendas a MP3 file.

Deleting the application from your /Applications folder is sufficient. There are sample projects in /Library/Application/Aperture you may want to get rid of as well, as they take up a fair bit of space.

  • Enough already with Voice Recorder's 1h limit, PLE...

I'm hoping this post will also be read by someone who works on the applications that are built-into Nokia phones.
I have recently made extensive use of the voice recorder feature of my Nokia N85, and I was reminded how extremely inconvenient the arbitrary one hour limit to the recording is.Thanks to it, one has to always check whether the hour has finished, and if it has, manually start another recording. If it hasn't, just check back...
I had to spend a good amount of time searching for third-party voice recorders, none of which I found satisfying, either because of their price or because of the fact that, for some reason, the recording quality never comes close to that of the in-built voice recorder. I therefore have to continue to go with it, although I really wish Nokia realised that it is ridiculous to cripple the functionality of an essential application, especially in more recent phone models.
I have 8GB on my memory card and want this to be the only limitation my voice recordings. The one hour limit may have made sense 10 years ago, but not any more, and I doubt any one appreciates a "legacy feature" like that. Please show a bit of flexibility, Nokia, and address this issue in your future firmware versions. Thank you.

I have to agree, this is annoying. So many choices made in included software seem to be placeholders for third-party or nokia-developed premium apps. Nokia provides quite a bit free of charge, and is good in so many ways, that I hope they'll reconsider the iPhonification of their lines and provide solid value with included apps, instead of charging for basic functionality.
hadimassa, no personal offense meant to you, but i have to respectfully disagree, this is exactly where grievances should be aired, and what we can do about it is discuss it.

  • Digital Voice Recorder iMac compatible

Hope I'm in the right forum! Still very new to iMac and still in the process of transferring data from Windows. Each day I come across something that is not compatible - today it is my Olympus Voice Recorder which I rely on. I used to download the recording onto PC, convert the file and edit and cut - then save to iTunes. Now,that's not possible on iMac. Do you know which voice recorder I could get that is compatible with iMac. One that I can download the entire recording to and use software (which?) to cut and crop and edit etc and put into my itunes? I am guessing that there is already an application in OS X which will allow the editing - it is more a case of how to get it on the iMac to start with. Thanks. SM

Audacity ( http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ ) in conjunction with Soundflower ( http://cycling74.com/products/soundflower/ ) will let you do most things you may need, including recording direct from web inputs.
It'll open and edit most sound formats and the editing options are pretty good for a freebie. version 1.3.12b is pretty stable and I've not found any major bugs yet.
Export options are also comprehensive, though for most purposes, .mp3 or .aif are all that's needed.
There's a wiki page for it at http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=Main_Page
No doubt there'll be other equally valid suggestions; this is far from the only option (but it is free!)

  • Uploading from olympus digital voice recorder vn-240pc to mac

This question was asked a few years ago and archived without a solution.  Is there any new trick such that I can upload voice recordings from this device (olympus digital voice recorder vn-240pc) to my macbook pro/ snow leopard?
I realize the device itself is in fact only compatible with PC.  I am wondering if there is a fix, not a standard software download from olympus.

Any Mac that can run 10.6 can also natively run Windows:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2741
Although they do have a download here:
    http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_support_downloads.asp?id=1079&os=m
but don't say what Mac operating system is required.  It is possible though it may only work under older Mac OS X versions, as the icon they use for the Mac operating systems is old.  Anything that requires a PowerPC Mac needs to be updated if it requires access to certain drivers.  Though since you have 10.6 at least you can run applications that don't require PowerPC specific drivers that were written for Mac OS X.

  • Olympus Digital Voice Recorder (VN960PC)

I have an Olympus Digital Voice Recorder (VN960PC). On the Olympus site they have no Mac OSX software [though they do have it for the Dark Side] that will allow me to download the audio files onto my mac mini [PPC].
Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there any software that might enable me to do this outside of going to Boot Camp or Virtual PC?
Flat Panel iMac 20 inch 1.25 ghz, iBook 500 mhz, mac mini 1.42 ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hi, bikinijack.
    1. With the particular digital voice recorder you have, I suspect you are going to be out of luck. Olympus offers DSS Player for Mac OS X for their higher-end units, i.e. their DS-series digital voice recorders.
    2. I presume you've tried connecting the VN-960PC to your Mac via USB cable and found that its built-in storage does not mount on the desktop. True?
    3. I suspect DSS Player is not going to work with your VN-960PC, but if you hada DS-series recorder, here's how I'd advise you, based on having previously researched this question for a person with a DS-series player:The short answer is that if you install the DSS Player application that comes with their digital voice recorders, and then install the "DSS Player for Mac (OS X) V6 Update to V6.0.4" — which can be found using their Support - Downloads Web page — then the DSS Player software will work with Tiger.
They are planning to update their Web site to reflect this as well as provide a FAQ. The basic instructions are the following:
    • If your Olympus digital voice recorder comes with DSS Player V6, you simply install "DSS Player for Mac (OS X) V6 Update to V6.0.4" using the instructions in the Read Me file.
    • If your Olympus digital voice recored comes with DSS Player versiion 1.xx, you first install the "DSS Player for Mac (OS X) Upgrade from version 1.xx to V6" using the instructions in the Read Me file, then install "DSS Player for Mac (OS X) V6 Update to V6.0.4," again following the instructions in its Read Me file.
StuffIt Expander is required to unpack these downloads. Tiger, unlike prior versions of Mac OS X, does not include Stuffit Expander: see "Mac OS X 10.4: Where is StuffIt Expander?" If you don't have StuffIt Expander, a free download of such for Mac OS X 10.4 can be found here.4. Since your Mac Mini is PPC, your only real option for running Windows is Virtual PC. There are some other, open-source projects for getting Windows to run under Mac OS X, but Virtual PC is probably the "gold standard" in that arena.
If your 20-inch iMac is Intel-based, in lieu of Boot Camp you could also try Parallels Desktop for Mac. This leverages the virtualization technology of the Intel chips, permitting you to run Mac OS X and Windows simultaneously.
    Good luck!

  • How do I upload a digital voice recording to iTunes 10?

I have a new Olympus VN8100 digital voice recorder that I used the other day to record a meeting.  The instructions tell you how to hook it up to a Mac and how to dismount it, but not what to do in between to upload the recording to a computer.
I did manage to burn the recording to a CD-R, but I can't find  an "Import CD" option in the File menu, so I haven't been able to store it on my Mac.  When I select "Add to Library...", neither the burned CD-R nor the VN8100 icon shows up in the list of Desktop items.
I can't even figure out how to play back the CD I burned to make sure it burned successfully--iTunes Help doesn't offer anything useful and the tutorials don't cover that.
I assumed I could put a spoken recording on my computer with the iTunes application, but maybe that's changed with iTunes 10?  Can anyone walk me through this?  Thanks so much for your help!

Thanks for the software suggestion - http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Audio/Audio-Recorder.shtml - it looks good. Why do you use it instead of Garage Band?
Had it before GB existed; I use other audio software for other tasks, but this one is probably the most easy to use app (of any kind) I've ever used. Click, speak, click, click. Done, with file sitting on my desktop.

  • E-63 voice recorder hang

For media/office use, we bought 2 E 63. We want use it for our reporters gathering information on the field. All the other application work well but the voice recorder which is principal for reporter's job.
Voice recorder : original program from Nokia can only record once and it just hang after the first recording.
I think the problem lied down on software than on hardware. I browsed on internet where I found a freeware Sound Recorder 1.0.
Still we have the problem, it takes some click on button before Sound Recorder work well and never hang.
You can play the the file on the original nokia player and make it as sound bite for report from our journalists

God I wish somebody would answer this.  Its really hard to search for and I've been hunting around for ages using keywords like 'soundclip' 'audio recorder' 'numbering'.   There has to be a solution.

  • How to break up a voice recording into navigable "chapters".

I am trying to make a voice recording (a Podcast on GarageBand) that I can then break up into "chapters". I want to be able to use the track button on a CD player or an iPod to navigate these chapters.
I have already made a Podcast recording in GB, but am unable to figure out how to break it up into "chapters" (with names that will appear on an iPod or CD player). Three questions:
    1) Is a podcast in GB the best way to accomplish this? and
    2) Should I break it up into "chapters" in GB or in iTunes? and
    3) How do I do it?
    Help me please!

Sure! GarageBand is great for recording and combining tracks, but SoundStudio, for me at least, is more intuitive when I'm manipulating a single track. For instance, SoundStudio lets you mark various points in your audio track, then split and save them as individual files via a single menu command. It's like having a single audio track in GarageBand expanded to fill the whole application window, and the suite of tools is aimed at manipulating that single track, not mixing multiple tracks together.
But the end result will be exactly the same — it's just a little easier for me to get there with SoundStudio. Unfortunately, SoundStudio is quite expensive (it came free on my Mac, but the latest version costs $80), so if you only need to split one audio file GarageBand will work just fine.

    Hi,
IOException comes if the device doesnt support a particular encoding so first get the device suppoted encodings using,
    String audioEncodings = System.getProperty("audio.encodings");
this will give u a list of device suppoted encodings. from that list select a particular encoding & record in that encoding instead of hardcoding a particular encoding. emulator supports 'pcm' encoding but the device doesnt.

  • Simple voice recorder/save for curve 8320?

Can anyone recommend a simple voice recorder for the curve 8320 where I can record voice notes and save them directly to my phone instead of emailing/mms'n them using the built in send voice note feature on the phone?  I have tried using handango and their software sucks, stuff doesn't work and I tried the vr+ voice recorder program they have and don't like it, I just want something simple.
    Does it exist?

soon, a Handheld OS version 4.5 will be available for your carrier (if you're at AT&T it already is). Inside it there will be a video mode : you'll be able to take pictures like today, and also 3GP videos.
If you want, you can install it from AT&T and delete the vendor.xml file on your PC before launching the Desktop Manager to upload the OS on your Blackberry.
Apart from that, I can't install applications on my Blackberry so I lag a bit about available wonders other people can install on their Curve.
The search box on top-right of this page is your true friend, and the public Knowledge Base too:

  • 6230 Video/Voice recorder Settings

Is it possible to remove the - very unhelpful - time limit imposed on both the Video (4 minutes) and Voice recorder (3 minute) applications , and if so how might this be done? I've tried everything to no avail

Unfortunately not, I used this handset myself, 4 mins is max...
