Voiceover Issue

I can't record voiceovers in iMovie 6.0.3. My internal MacBook microphone works just fine, Speech works just fine, I tried re-calibrating it, but nothing will work. Whenever I record a voiceover in iMovie, there is no sound recorded. I can import music just fine, but recorded voiceovers are silent. Any suggestions?

to Sound (or Audio) and select Sound in - from microphone ?

PDF VoiceOver issues

Currently, in Mac OS X Tiger, the VoiceOver feature is having problems reading the text in PDF files. I have to choose from the Speech Menu to get the reading started, and in some PDF files, the text in the same paragraph is converted to have paragraph breaks at the line end, so when trying to use the Speech feature to read the text, it behaves buggy.

I have had difficultly separating out the issue of accessible PDFs from VoiceOver compatibility. Try using the Read Aloud feature of the current version of Adobe Reader on the same PDF. Confounding the problem is that Adobe Reader is not so compatible with VoiceOver.

VoiceOver issue with iBooks on iPad and iPhone in iOS 4.2.1

I use the VoiceOver feature of my iPad and iPhone. After I upgraded to iOS 4.2.1 I was unable to buy any books from the iBooks store. I had to disable VoiceOver to make my purchases (not an easy feat when you need VoiceOver!)
I particular, I've found two bugs.
1. When I have VoiceOver enabled while using iBooks, I can not select the price button to buy a book.
2. While I'm in my Account page by first selecting "Apple ID: myappleid" at the bottom of an iBooks page and then selecting [View Apple ID] from the pop-up, I'm unable to modify any of the fileds. VoiceOver tells me I can select the fields, but when I try to, the control (numeric keypad, picker item, etc.) is not displayed and I have no way of modifying the field. H have to disable VoiceOver and navigate back to make my changes.
How do I report this to Apple?

IMovie Voiceover issues

I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. I am still having issues with YouTube, but now when I bring in a clip to edit into iMovie, I cant do Voiceovers.
I have tried the clip in both the upper and lower windows to do this. I was able to do this at the Apple One to One session I had just a few days ago.
I am using a Snowball mic, and I know that it is working.
I am following the instructions provided by Apple to do a Voice over, but I'm having problems. In either the upper or lower windows the issue seems to be the same.
I bring up a clip to do a sound over, hit the "O" key, and the clip becomes dark, and I am told by the image window to click on a clip, but I can't because it is grayed out. I can hit the space bar and the clip starts, but not the voice over.
I'm sure that this is just another of those things that I need to unlearn from the PC as I go to the MAC, but any help or direction is greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone for sharing this helpful info. I had been having the same issue with sounds… I’m glad I discovered I’m not the only one encountering this problem. I made a video with all the clips muted, & a background song playing, and when the song starts to fade out at the end, the original sound from the clips could be heard despite being muted, but only when playing back from the beginning, not in the middle somewhere. I was losing my patience and sanity trying to figure out how to fix it. Changing all the clips to standard preset speeds fixed the problem, but unfortunately I had to re-edit almost the whole video.. RRRAAAAAARRRGH!!!
Hopefully apple comes up with a fix for this obnoxious problem! iMovie is a great program other than that!!!

Can't the iPod nano 7th gen. VoiceOver function identify which language that is being used? My iPod Shuffle can.

I am very satisfied with my iPod SHUFFLE (last version), especially with the VoiceOver function which is (quite) able to identify correctly which language is being used in every song: For a Norwegian artist / a song in Norwegian, the artist and title is pronounced in Norwegian; for a French artist / a song in French, the artist and title is pronounced in French; for an English artist / a song in English, the artist and title is pronounced in English etc. A really impressive and useful function!
I was very surprised and dissatisfied to find that my new iPod nano 7th generation does not seem to work this way: I am able to select the language to be used in VoiceOver, but then this language is used in everything that is pronounced. Most of my music is in English language, so this is what I have selected. But to hear Norwegian artists' names and Norwegian titles pronounced with an English-speaking voice is quite disturbing.
I believe I have been through all possible settings in the nano and in iTunes to correct this, but I am unable to find a solution. I have also asked people at an Apple store, but they were unable to help. Can anybody help? Or is it really possible that this excellent function has been removed?
(Could it be that the previous version of iTunes could fix the problem? I have installed the last one, v. 11.0.1.12.)

Trying to explain to a sighted person what I'm seeing

Hi all,
I posted here last week about a problem where my charts were not loading in the iTunes Store on the phone, I think I posted that in the iTunes Store section of this site. I called Apple that night and have been working with Nick, who has been very helpfull. We determined that VoiceOver was causing the problem I was having with the iTunes Store charts. Now, though, I am trying to tell him about another problem I'm having, which I've also posted about here, but he doesn't seem to know what I'm talking about. The problem is that I click the Album Art button and all the controls show up, repeat, shuffle, track position, etc. With VoiceOver, I can show all those controls by clicking the button that says Album Art, but once I click this button to show the controls, there does not appear to be a way to hide them. I'm thinking this is another VoiceOver issue, but Nick, who is sighted, doesn't seem to know where it is. What should I tell him to do to duplicate this issue?

A) Visit a local Apple Store.
B) Get a sighted friend to help 'translate' to Apple Support on the phone.

Voiceover capture sequence issue

I'm having trouble recording voiceover to one particular sequence.
I'm able to record voiceover successfully to a brand new sequence, so I know that the microphone, the audio hardware settings, and my techniques are all working.
I'm guessing that there is something with this particular sequence that is preventing me from recording to audio tracks. I'm able to arm the tracks for recording, and the audio inputs are showing response in levels, i.e. that the program is receiving a signal. But after arming, playing, speaking, and pausing -- the file does not show up on the timeline or in the project.
It's like everything is working except for the actual capture of the audio.
The voiceover tracks I'm trying to record to are mono. But deleting these tracks and/or trying to record on stereo tracks doesn't help -- the audio still isn't captured.
I've restarted everything, and I've also moved the Media Cache, the location for audio files... not sure what else to do. I've also tried using the internal mic, but that didn't help either.

I figured it out.
I had inadvertently placed in and out points on another part of the timeline. It won't capture audio to parts of the timeline that are outside of the in and out points.
Be warned!

How can I get around VoiceOver in iOS 5 requiring 4-5 taps in the "Purchased" search in the App Store? It's the ONLY area you have to do this with! A glitch???

It's the ONLY area you have to do this with! A glitch??? I sure hope so! But, at this point, I have torn the entire VoiceOver app apart to the nth degree and have isolated this issue to THIS area ONLY.
Apple, please help, or UPDATE iOS 5, AGAIN!

iBooks only syncs purchased books. Others must be synced in iTunes.

My daughters bluetooth keyboard won't work with voiceover since upgrading to iOS 8.1 - how can i fix this?

My daughter has a Greatshield bluetooth keyboard which she has been using successfully in school with her iPad mini. she is blind and uses voiceover to navigate and to have what she has typed read back to her.
Since updating to iOS 8.1 the keyboard no longer works when voiceover is on but does when voiceover if off. My daughter is not able to use it without voiceover.
Any suggestions?

Was in the Apple Stor this morning in Indianapolis and picked up a Bluetooth keyboard to use with my iPad mini 2. Sadly neither I nor staff could get it to work with voiceover working. The staff, both sales and tech, appeared as shocked as I was. I was surprised that over 6 months Apple had not fixed this issue. Now I am wasting my time trying to back up reports of this problem on Apple's website. I know Apple over the last 10 years had given a lot of us so many advancements, but maybe that's changing? All I know is that as a busy professional, Apple has cost me about 4 hours of lost productivity today. I wish I could charge them for it!

Is there any way to be sure about book progression using VoiceOver Utility?

I am able to load and display iBooks products using VoiceOver utility without issues, which I'm very happy about. The main issue seems to be in the way the text is displayed, however. I can never be sure how the text scrolls. I might be able to scroll down several lines of text without incidents, maybe a few paragraphs in a row, but there will come a time when I have to progress to the right. Or maybe go further to the top. It never seems to make a lot of sense, and so I am left with serious difficulties reading books as they were meant to be read. I can use the Speak option from the edit menu, but that doesn't quite help, since the system doesn't save the progress you make using this reading method, meaning there's no way to pause (as far as I'm aware).
My question, essentially: is there a way for me to know with absolute certainty how to progress through a text from A to Z? Alternatively, is there a way for me to display the text in a more manageable, column-less way so that text scrolls naturally from top to bottom? Thanks!

Voiceover: I need to get rid of it

I am in charge of a lab of 30 iMacs running the latest version of Tiger. Each machine has 5 local accounts. When they were set up, four of the accounts (the student use ones) were locked down from opening any System Preferences.
Recently, kids have begun using Command-F5 to start all the machines in the room talking and I got a chuckle out of an email I received from her indicating that it's driving her bats. She asked (pleaded with) me to do away with this voice stuff.
I found another post on these forums that suggested I try to accomplish this by moving the /System/Library/Speech folder to the localadmin desktop and see if that cures the problem.
It did. However, when you press Command-F5, the black box appears as it does with Voiceover, but Command-F5 no longer acts as a toggle. Pressing Command-F5 again does not toggle the feature off so the black box remains until the machine is restarted. Another teacher who uses that room is complaining that the box is a nuisance and wants it removed.
I've done a few things, namely, putting the Speech folder back where it was and just moving the three sub folders to the localadmin desktop. Voice is still inactive which is good but the black box remains. I've tried leaving all the folders in the Speech folder intact and just removing the files from them but the issue persists.
This is a very active lab and in order to disable this the usual way would be to manually uncheck the Voiceover options in Universal Access. To accomplish this I would have to sit at each machine, log in as local admin, give the account permission to open System Prefs, log out, log in as the local account, change the setting, log out, log in as admin again and remove the access to System Preferences. Rinse and repeat for the other accounts on the machine.
I'm trying to avoid having to do this and wondered if anyone else here might have found a way to get rid of this feature without all this extra legwork.
It won't be a problem for next year as I will update my image to disable Voiceover but for the remainder of this year I'll have to come up with some solution.

Also, is the black box you've heard about when the VoiceOver is
semi-disabled a text box? There is a toggle or checkbox in V.O.
to have a text box; whether or not this can be modified to get
rid of a black box appearing on the screen is an unknown.
The idea of re-mapping the keys so the command isn't possible
may be one idea worth considering; if it can be done remotely
or offsite, not requiring you to manually do each Mac.

Will VoiceOver read outline level labels in Pages document?

I have an outline such as
Animals
1) Mammals
     a) dogs
     b) cats
     c) horses
2) Reptiles
     a) snakes
     b) iguanas
and I want VoiceOver to read the levels labels outloud as it reads the outline contents.
Such as:
One Animals
a dogs
b cats
c horses
two Reptiles
a snakes
b iguanas
Is that possible?

There is a solution that might not completely solve your issue, but you may want to consider it anyway.
You can create an Automator script that will read the selected outline text and convert it to a spoken track in iTunes, and install that script as a Service. It won't read the outline list level, unless you type it into the titles.

IPod 4-upgraded to ios 6.1 and now voiceover won't shut off and I have to triple click everything which has eliminated scrolling and swiping as options

Last night my daughter downloaded the ios 6.1 upgrade to her ipod touch 4th gen. It automatically went into "Voiceover" mode and to select anything you have to "triple-click" it. WE turned both things off but they don't turn off. Also cannot swipe or scroll due to the triple click issue. HELP!

Triple click the home button and try going to Settings>General>Accessibility and turn VoiceOver off. You may have to use three fingers to scroll the screen to get there. If problems see:
