VoiceOver/Record Audio

I have been able to capture voiceovers with the record audio button in FCP but all of a sudden for no particular reason this function has stoppped working. Now whenever i attempt to capture audio the little box pops up but the dropdown where you are supposed to select the destination is blank:
If i try to hit record anyway it begins to record and it seems to be working except the recording does not appear in my timeline. Also i cannot click the end recording button i have to close the record audio box by the little "x" on the upper left.

Ok - I have made screen captures of the proper settings in the Midi Audio Setup:
For The DEFAULT INPUT -- Microphone:
For Built in Output Set AS Default in Midi Audio Devices:
So in Audio Midi setup make certain that the internal Mic has a mic to the right of it (default)
and the Speaker Icon (Built in Output) has a Mac System Icon & speaker icon to the right of it showing it tobe the default.
If yours doesn't look like the above, click on the gear and - with ONLY the internal Mic or built in speakers
selected above - make them the default.
IN The SYSTEM SETTINS ---  SOUND ----
The Output should be internal speakers -- NOT MUTED
And for the input in Sound sysytem Settings, make sure out put volume is NOT muted:
If you have your system set up correctly, as you snap your fingers ot speak, you should
be able to see the input level respond in real time  (This is what Final Cut "sees"):
IN system sound, the soundflower outputs are muted and it says - The selected device has no output controls
The same for the sounflower (64ch) - "No Output Controls" and muted.
Click on the ? in any of the above windows on your own computer to see selected in depth help on this.
Now you should be able to use the recorder in FCP X w/o issue, in real time. it will save your audio in the event or project that you are "in" or have selected in the browser.

I think you've got the right driver selected, otherwise it wouln't work at all. The single most obvious thing to ask you though (I'm sorry if this is too basic) is where you have the pan controls set to? To get each mic to record on a single channel, you'd have to have one panned hard left and the other panned hard right. If you leave them both panned dead centre, that's exactly what you get - both mics on both channels.

  • Voiceover recording with Logitec mic

On a Final Cut project: When recording a voiceover, the audio track records a random thud when using the voiceover function with a Logitec mic. This happens unless I reduce the input volume to below optimum levels. Can you suggest some possible adjustment fixes? Input is set at AK5370
    Rate is 44100Hz.

  • Recording audio and adding pics

I have an iPhone 4 and I would like to record myself singing a song and put it to pics from my phone without hooking up to a computer. How can I do this? Is there an app for that? I've found ones with will do it to songs on my playlist but not a recording

    Hi Comoass,
The application that I would recommend for you would be iMovie. With iMovie, you can create your project and record audio, such as a voiceover, directly into the project. This first link is a general overview of iMovie for iOS.

  • Can I record audio and spread it across several slides

I am having trouble recording audio at the same time I am
recording a software simulation. Must be like the chewing gum and
walking thing! I would like to record a few slides at a time and
then add the audio. I select Audio and record, but it only records
on the first slide...or whichever slide it happens to be on. I
thought I saw somewhere that I could choose to spread the audio
file across several slides if I choose. Can anyone tell me if this
is possible and how to do that?

    Hi deidrelynn
After you make that long voiceover, have you tried clicking
Audio > Edit Timing... and adjusting the split bars where you
want the audio to break? If not, perhaps that's worth a shot.

  • HELP - voiceover recording problem!!!

As I am recording voiceovers, if I make a bad take and either undo the recording or clear it iMovie will at some later point render the audio from the bad clip in place of a newly recorded clip. It appears that iMovie reuses the filename of the deleted voice clip (e.g., "voice 03") for the new voice recording, but then it goes and retrieves the old deleted data and renders it in place of the new data.
This seems like some kind of catastrophic file management problem. If I just undo the bad recordings, iMovie will reuse the bad clips at some point. If I clear the bad clips from iMovie trash, iMovie retrieves them from OS X trash at some point. And when I try to delete them from OS X trash, the system tells me that I can't because they're "still in use."
The only fix I have found is to shut down iMovie, empty OS X trash, reboot iMovie and work 'till the next bad voiceover take. This slows my work process down to a bare crawl.
Has anyone had this problem. Could my copy of iMovie be corrupted in some way? HELP!

There may not be a great solution for this problem. There's some audio bugs that haunt iMovie, and the re-use of file names is one of them.
A quick look suggests the re-use of a name -- where a new voiceover plays the audio of a previously-discarded voiceover -- occurs routinely when the first voice file is in the Mac Trash. This sequence:
    1. Record a voiceover. iMovie creates the file "Voice 01".
    2. You don't like that clip so you delete it.
    3. Save the project. "Voice 01" moves to the Mac Trash. (Usually, but not always.)
    4. Record another voiceover. By default, iMovie names it "Voice 01" again. If there's a file with that name in the Mac Trash, It plays that Trashed clip, not the clip you just recorded.
Note that each time you save, iMovie runs a cleanup routine that removes all the unused (deleted) Media clips from the Media folder. The voiceover clips you've deleted are automatically moved to the Mac Trash.
They stay "busy" in the Mac Trash until you quit iMovie. (I suspect they shouldn't, which may be why you see them played from the Trash.) If you want to get rid of them, or experience problems with iMovie "reusing" a name, quit iMovie. That will break its connection with the files in the Mac Trash so they are no longer "busy". Now you'll be able to empty the Mac Trash if you want.
Instead of deleting the clip, moving the voiceover to an unused section of the audio track might be a solution. Discard them all later, before you quit. They can overlap each other at the end of a track. Not ideal, but it avoids duplicate file names.
Note that if you choose quit, THEN save when iMovie asks, the discarded clips don't go in the Mac Trash.
If you have QuickTime Pro for QuickTime 7, its lets you record audio. You could record the voiceover there and when you are satisfied with it, drag the small icon in the titlebar of the audio movie window to the iMovie timeline. That imports the voiceover to iMovie. (You never have to save the audio clip to disk.)
That may be the best workaround. Note that to discard poor-quality voiceovers in QT Player, just close that window.

  • Pitch change when recording audio

    Hi all,
I've been recording audio voiceover tracks without issue for 3 years to my Mac Pro:
    OSX 10.9.2
    2x2.3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    12 GB 106 MHz DDR3
I record with a condenser mic via my M-Audio FastTrack Pro. Suddenly, all recorded audio now has shifted up in pitch to chipmunk-like frequencies and I cannot figure out why. As far as I can tell, the duration of the clips does not change, only the pitch. No settings have been changed in FCP X or on the FastTrack Pro. Has anyone else had the same problem or know of a fix?
    Thanks,
    Bill

is there a time limit in GB
Yes, though it shouldn't change the pitch or speed, it would jsut cut off.

  • Voiceover Recording - where?

How can I reveal the actual file of a Voiceover Recording in Finder?
Where is a Voiceover Recording stored?
    Thanks.

I'm having this problem too, and I made some observations.
Video is fine in iMovie, but only in the small preview window. Both in fullscreen iMovie and exported and watched in Quicktime, video get less and less synchronised as the movie goes on.
At certain moments, (at the end of audio imported in imovie from finder, I think), the audio completely disappears until the end.
All the clips have been captured with my iPod touch 4G. It produced clips with different framerates (images per second). Some are 24 FPS, others 30, 26, etc.
Could this affect the synchronisation of audio?
Please help, this is very disappointing for a program and OS that are otherwise awesome.
    Thanks,
    Carl

  • Unable to record audio

I am trying to record audio into Logic through a electro-acoustic guitar and AKG microphone, which are both plugged into my Saffire 6 interface. Everytime I set up a new audio track and select the 'R' record button, a loud static noise plays through my monitors. You can see that the interface is picking up a signal from the guitar but all you can hear is the static.
When I increase the gain on the instrument channel on my interface, the noise stays at the same level. But when I increase the volume of the monitors or the volume of the mixer channel in Logic the noise gets louder. This makes me think that all the cables are fine but it is something to do with a setting in Logic.
The mixer channel in logic always looks like this when audio recording is enabled:
I've read on some other forums that it might be to do with the buffer size - I've tried changing this but the problem seems to persist. I also read that it might have something to do with setting the midi clocks in the synchronization tab but there wasn't enough information explaining how to do this.
My midi setup currently looks like this:
I've had this problem for ages now and can't find a way around it....

    Couple of more questions:
Does the Focusrite have a feature called zero latency monitoring, also called direct monitoring? If so make sure it is turned off and not used. The Saffire has a "Mixer" knob, do you have that in the correct position. Do you have the latest drivers?  2.6 it looks like.
    http://www.focusrite.com/products/audio_interfaces/saffire_6_usb/downloads/
Does the microphone channel work ok? Have you tried reversing them.
What happens to that channel if the guitar is not plugged in, is there any noise?
Are you using a standard 2-conductor guitar cable, or is it by chance a three conductor stereo cable? It should be just a standard guitar cable.
It there anything else being used on the USB bus, are you plugged into a USB hub or directly into the Mac?
Speaking of which, wht Mac and OS?

  • Trying to record Stereo Mix with a monitor through my headphones.  Using Screenium to record Audio and Video, using Avid MBox Mini with MXL 909 Microphone for the audio through the interface.

Basically, what I am trying to do is this:
Record my screen through Screeenium, record my voice as audio through an Avid MBox Mini (interface) with a MXL 909 microphone to pick up the audio.  I have all that figured out.  I'm able to efficiently record my audio and screenplay through these instruments and programs.  What I am having trouble with is the stereo mix.  I am running into a slew of problems here... My goal: Add on the audio of a game that I am playing (for example, Amneisia) so that the audio for my game will be picked up internally, and not through the speakers to be recorded through the microphone.  I want there to be no external sound except me talking into my microphone.  I also want to be able to HEAR the audio of the game through my headphones (and if possible, myself as well, through a monitor maybe?)
Problems I have run into so far:
-Haven't gotten it to pick up in game audio at all while using headphone.  Can't figure this out
-Downloaded soundflower, have the output as soundflower.  Not picking up anything, will put all my sound and midi settings at the end.
-When I do record through my microphone, it is only picking up a single channel (left earpiece only, no right channel)
-I have figured out it is NOT the equipment, I use Pro Tools and am able to pick up both channels with my mic, recorded a few tests. It's settings and I can't      figure it out
-Trying not to run 16 million programs while running the game, will cause lag.
    Summed up:
    Trying to record:
-Audio from gameplay of any game I am playing through alternative route of speakers (do NOT want to record game audio through speakers, internally)
-Record voice through Avid MBox Mini and MXL 909 microphone.
    -Record screen gameplay through Screenium
I followed a guide that told me to achieve "stereo mix'' I need to download soundflower and follow "X" steps.  That is done and these are my current settings:
Audio Midi Setup - Stereo Mix custom Aggregate Device, Soundflower (2ch) selected, Avid Mbox Mini selected, Soundflower Output #1 has 2 channels (1-2), using Avid MBox mini for "Input" in order to record.  Using Soundflower AND Avid MBox mini as "Output" in order to hear the sounds and replay game sounds (could be the problem? Maybe?)
Sound Settings - Output Stereo Mix (custom channel)  Input Avid MBox Mini (recording)
I'm hoping this isn't too hard to understand.. I'm VERY bad at explaining information regarding computers.. It's hard becuase I don't understand it.  I can clarify anything that I am able to, so any help on finding certain things would be greatly appreciated.
My computer: Macbook Pro MAC OS X Lion (11G63) 10.7.5  2.4 GHz Intel Core i7 4GB 13333 MGz DDR3  (If any of this is imporant)

    Hey guys,
I tried to do some research and it looks like you need to have an external device and its drivers, such as an external microphone, installed on the computer to record audio that can be saved as a sound file. Another Suggestion is to try an auxiliary spliter for your headphones and external speakers?
What software are you using to record your game?
If anyone knows anything different, please let me know.

  • Can I record audio on an iPad direct from a mac via line out

I use the noteability app alot, recording audio at a live lecture works great.  However, due to a bug you can not add an audio file directly into your notes (at the moment), you must record them.
I have a bunch of podcasts that I would like to add to my notes.  I know I could play them from my mac and record audio through the ipads mic but what I hoped  to do was connect a male to male cable between the line out of my mac into my ipad, playing the audio without interferance.  This didn't work
Does anyone know if there is a similar way to do this or something I could have done wrong.
    Thanks

yeah - you can do it, but you need an adapter.  The earphone jack on a pad is a special jack with stereo headphone uot put and a seperate mic in channel.  The adapters i have seen are usually built to accomodate a standard 1/4 in - into the pad, like the one in the attached link.  In theory, you could use the lineout on the mac, to a 1/4 in male - then into this adapter to get it back into the pad.   Somebody probably makes the cable you need with the 1/4 shift, but I couldn't find one.
Options - in you notes, insted of copying the file, put a link to the podcast

  • Can No Longer Record Audio With iMic

I've been using the Camera Connection Kit with the iMic to record audio from my studio via 'Line In' for months with no issue. A few weeks ago, my iPad stopped recording using iMic. It only records with the internal mic now, so the sound is garbage. The software company says it isn't their software that's the problem. Did Apple have an update (prior to latest release) that rendered iMic useless?
Without the ability to record audio in this fashion, the iPad is a useless paperweight for me.
    Any help is appreciated.

Users have reported that some accessories that worked with the CCK before the update to iOS 4.2.1 now no longer work. This article, updated after the iOS update give a clue that the update changed what worked.

  • Record audio is not working

Does anyone know why when I open up the "Record Audio" button why it would not be recording?  The audio box appears but there is no sound.  It was working but now..... it has stopped and could use some advice.  Thanks.

The fact that it also fails in iMovie suggests that this is probably not a problem with FCP X.
That leaves either a hardware failure or a software conflict.
You can check whether the microphone itself is functional by testing in System Preferences->Sound directly.
Open the input panel and speak into the microphone. As you speak, you should get some visual feedback like in the picture below. Do you get some bars or does it stay the same all the time?
