On my Mac Pro how can I get voiceover to start reading at a specific point in a document, and then continue on to the next paragraph and so on? Thank you. Ed
Welcome to the Apple family!!!!
How can I cause the VO cursor(box) show-up/start?
Press Control-Option and F5. The F5 key is located on the top row of keys 6th key over. This is a toggling "Keyboard Shortcut" for turning VoiceOver on and off.
How can I move the VO cursor to various sentences or paragraphs of an article and have it start reading ... and perhaps even continue reading on to the next paragraph(s) ... even to the end of the article?
How to read a website with VoiceOver
Step 1: Go to the Website
A quick keyboard shortcut is Command-L. This will jump you up to the address bar. Start typing where you want to go. i.e "www.thewebsite.com"
Step 2: Working with Webpage
VoiceOver will automatically start reading the website. You can pause the speech by hitting the 'Control Button'.
If VoiceOver does not being reading the webpage, then you might have to "Interact" with it. If VoiceOver say "HTML Content" then press Control-Option-Space-Down Arrow to interact with the webpage.
Use Control-Option-Right Arrow to move throught the website. This will speak "EVERYTHING" on the page.
Most website that I've found have their articles labeled as 'Heading'. You can jump from heading to heading, by pressing Control-Option-Shift-H.
If you'd like an itemized alphabetical listing of the site, press Control-Option-I
Press Control-Option-Space on the link or article you want to view.
Step 3. Reading from Top to Bottom
Once you found and clicked on the the article/link, use the same 'Heading' command, Control-Option-Shift-H to find the title.
After finding the title, press Control-Option-A will start reading from the title on.
Note: If there are any other items (ads, pictures, etc) it will read those too.
Tip: You might be able to activate a feature called the 'Reader'. The Reader isolates the article and elimanates the ads The keyboard command is Shift-Command-R. You can also find it in the Menu Bar (Command-Option-M) under the word 'View' then 'Show Reader'.
I am using a MACPro with OSX, probably Mavericks 10.9 (where would I look to see if that is the correct information?)
You can find this information under the 'Apple menu' in the Menu Bar. To access the Menu Bar, press Control-Option-M.
Go to Apple Menu > About This Mac. This will open up another window. Use Control-Option-Right Arrow until you hear 'Version'. If you purchased it brand new from Apple within the last six month, more than likely you have Mavericks.

The 'Commands Help' Voiceover Menu. Control-Option-H-H. (hit H twice) is my best friend. It's a searchable VoiceOver Menu with most of the VoiceOver command. Example: You are looking for the 'Read Current Paragraph' keyboard command. Press Control-Option-H-H and then type Paragraph. It will then bring up all the commands with the word paragraph. I believe there are three.

Why does the App Store not work in Genius with VoiceOver switched on
After I downloaded IOS 6 to my iPhone 4 there were a lot of things not working properly, the main things that were a problem was the App Store, to move anything with VoiceOver switched on it was touch-and then tap twice also to move the thing on the page you use three fingers swipe up or down left or right to move it. We now find that to move something in Charts you only need one finger touchon the left to move it.If Some body can come up with thee answer it is the People that work in the Accessability side of things at Apple. So if you know in Ireland why Apple cannot put in the info for Accessability for People who are Blind like me we cannot see what is going on we do not change anyof the settings...
Thank you very much for the reply. That certainly makes sense, as I am sure it is all the Time Machine backups I have that are at the root of the problem. How can I update all those older version Apps deeply embedded within my TM backups, or is the solution to unmount my 2TB drive that I use for TM?
I suppose if Apple could somehow direct the App Store to disregard all those other apps in TM, the problem would be resolved.

How can I get the Voiceover Keyboard shortcuts to show up in a form in which I can copy
I have low vision & have been trying to learn to use Voiceover on both my iPhone & my Mac mini for months. Very frustrating.
1. How can I get the Voiceover keyboard shortcut commans to show up in a form in which I can copy & paste them into a pages document so I can print it out & use for quick reference?? The one that shows up when I press VO +HH won't let me copy & paste it, & it won't show up in the Help section no matter what subject I enter. The help topics shown do not correlate with the topics I'm entering. why is that??
2. Please make the cursor able to be wider, like in the software program Zoomtext, that I used when I had a PC. The razor-thin cursor (in this text box!) in Pages is impossible for me to see.
Thank you for any help you can provide.http://www.applevis.com/guides/voiceover-keyboard-shortcuts-mac-os-x
You should be able to copy them from there. -
HT4046 what's new in the latest version of voiceover ?
what's new in the latest version of voiceover ?
I don't know specifically, but you can take a look at this article, which explains VoiceOver on a 4th gen shuffle and compare that to how it works on your 3rd gen shuffle.

Could you post back any obvious differences, if any...? I'm just curious myself -
Is there a way to remove only parts of audio in a clip (remove music but keep voiceover)
I've been given a promotional video to edit, with a voiceover and background music. The file I have is an MP4 file, and I do not have the separate pieces of the file (Video, audio, and music).
Is there a way to remove the music but keep the voiceover? I doubt there is..
ThanksIf the voiceover is in a narrow range of frequencies you might get lucky. You can use the Graphic Equalizer to reduce the volume of all frequencies except those that the voice is using. There may still be some music in these frequencies as well, but it is worth a try.
Select your clip and open the inspector to the Audio Tab. Under Audio Enhancements, you will see the word "Equalization". Over to the right you will see a small icon of a graphic equalizer. Click this and it will open the Graphic Equalizer.
That will bring up the Graphic Equalizer window. You can set the Graphic Equalizer to display 10 bands of frequencies or 31 bands. Choosing 31 bands will give you more control.
There are probably many other things you could try, since you have access to all the Logic Pro X synthesizers in FCPX, but that is the most straightforward. -
How can I turn off Voiceover on iPad air 2?
My iPad Air 2 (OS 8.1.3 ) will not allow me to turn off the Voiceover feature in Accessibility. When I tap the toggle button it slides to off position and then turns itself back on immediately. I have tried a settings reset and it stayed selected. This didn't happen with my previous OS version.
Thanks,
SherryYou're welcome, glad to hear you gpt your iPad sorted out. If you had a black screen while in VoiceOver thats called screen curtain. Triple tap the screen with three fingers to turn screen curtain off. Hopefully now that you restored your iPad you won't be needing to turn screen curtain or Voice Over off again.

It's the ONLY area you have to do this with! A glitch??? I sure hope so! But, at this point, I have torn the entire VoiceOver app apart to the nth degree and have isolated this issue to THIS area ONLY.
Apple, please help, or UPDATE iOS 5, AGAIN!
Thank you...iBooks only syncs purchased books. Others must be synced in iTunes.

HT4322 Why isn't iTunes enabling VoiceOver on my iPod Shuffle (4th gen)?
I'm using iTunes for Windows 7 64-bit. I have the iPod freshly restored and resynced with my playlist, and I want to enable VoiceOver. I click the checkbox, and iTunes downloads the software. After it's done, however, the checkbox goes blank again. Why is this happening?
OK! I tried with Windows 8, and it worked.

My daughter has a Greatshield bluetooth keyboard which she has been using successfully in school with her iPad mini. she is blind and uses voiceover to navigate and to have what she has typed read back to her.
Since updating to iOS 8.1 the keyboard no longer works when voiceover is on but does when voiceover if off. My daughter is not able to use it without voiceover.
Any suggestions? Was in the Apple Stor this morning in Indianapolis and picked up a Bluetooth keyboard to use with my iPad mini 2. Sadly neither I nor staff could get it to work with voiceover working. The staff, both sales and tech, appeared as shocked as I was. I was surprised that over 6 months Apple had not fixed this issue. Now I am wasting my time trying to back up reports of this problem on Apple's website. I know Apple over the last 10 years had given a lot of us so many advancements, but maybe that's changing? All I know is that as a busy professional, Apple has cost me about 4 hours of lost productivity today. I wish I could charge them for it!

Blind user on iPhone 5S, voiceover on, can not see the Airplay icon in the Pandora app
Blind user with an iPhone 5S with iOS 7.1 updated, have the Pandora app installed, and playing streaming music from the phone. My problem is that , while the Airplay icon is visible to a sighted person holding my phone, when I attempt to activate the Airplay icon - while using Voiceover - the phone doesn't seem to be able to "see" the Airplay icon, thus won't allow me to activate it. I have tried both methods of finding/accessing the Airplay icon, via the ""pushing up" of the volume bar, as well as trying to go tot he app-switcher and doing a left-to-right swipe x2 to get to the icon without positive result. The above worked just fine in my old iPhone 4S and iOS 6.X. So, what has changed, and what should I be doing differently? Thanks!
Yes, under the Settings menu of my AppleTV, I have gone into AirPlay sub-menu and the AirPlay selection shows "ON", Onscreen Code is set to "OFF" and no Password is set up.
I also have a Tick against the AppleTV listed under Speakers.
Is there anything else I should do to enable AirPlay on the AppleTV or my iPhone? -
when turning my ipad on it comes up with passcode, when i try to enter it it wont accept. so i cannot get any further. the only thing i did was i was just messing and i turned on voiceover, then i tryed to turn it of and it wouldnt let me. i have tryed turning the ipad of and then turning it back on and that didnt work either. please help ....
It's hard to see exactly how just turning voiceover on would have created a passcode, but regardless of that ... if you can't get it sorted so that you can enter whatever the code is, you're going to have to resort to Restoring the iPad from the computer it was last sync'ed to.

I am very satisfied with my iPod SHUFFLE (last version), especially with the VoiceOver function which is (quite) able to identify correctly which language is being used in every song: For a Norwegian artist / a song in Norwegian, the artist and title is pronounced in Norwegian; for a French artist / a song in French, the artist and title is pronounced in French; for an English artist / a song in English, the artist and title is pronounced in English etc. A really impressive and useful function!
I was very surprised and dissatisfied to find that my new iPod nano 7th generation does not seem to work this way: I am able to select the language to be used in VoiceOver, but then this language is used in everything that is pronounced. Most of my music is in English language, so this is what I have selected. But to hear Norwegian artists' names and Norwegian titles pronounced with an English-speaking voice is quite disturbing.
I believe I have been through all possible settings in the nano and in iTunes to correct this, but I am unable to find a solution. I have also asked people at an Apple store, but they were unable to help. Can anybody help? Or is it really possible that this excellent function has been removed?
(Could it be that the previous version of iTunes could fix the problem? I have installed the last one, v. 11.0.1.12.)Hello, Dlira.
Thank you for the question. The articles below may help you with the VoiceOver issue you are experiencing.

Is there any way to be sure about book progression using VoiceOver Utility?
I am able to load and display iBooks products using VoiceOver utility without issues, which I'm very happy about. The main issue seems to be in the way the text is displayed, however. I can never be sure how the text scrolls. I might be able to scroll down several lines of text without incidents, maybe a few paragraphs in a row, but there will come a time when I have to progress to the right. Or maybe go further to the top. It never seems to make a lot of sense, and so I am left with serious difficulties reading books as they were meant to be read. I can use the Speak option from the edit menu, but that doesn't quite help, since the system doesn't save the progress you make using this reading method, meaning there's no way to pause (as far as I'm aware).
My question, essentially: is there a way for me to know with absolute certainty how to progress through a text from A to Z? Alternatively, is there a way for me to display the text in a more manageable, column-less way so that text scrolls naturally from top to bottom? Thanks!Warehouse that PDF on your own server, then link to it from your book.
