Voiceovers/iMovie project won't open after sharing it on a different MacBook

So for my video, I needed to have Spanish voiceovers. I had my friend do voiceovers on her computer and then save it onto my external hard drive. When I got the external hard drive back, I tried opening up iMovie on my computer and it would not open. The events come up perfectly, but the projects themselves are not read. I tried putting my projects/events into iMovie Drop Box and then plugged in my hard drive onto a third Macbook (using iMovie '11). The project (as well as the voice recordings) came up (even though the recordings were not in the order in which we recorded them). I want to open up the projects onto my Macbook in order to edit the sound levels. I have an iMovie 09. Does my friend need to drag the project/event files onto iMovie Drop Box when she is done with her recordings? Or is there another way?

I had the same problem. I took the advice to start in safe mode and tested out my two add-ons (Greasemonkey and AdBlock) to see which was the problem. Firefox started perfectly when I disabled Greasemonkey. Hope that helps other people with this same frustrating problem.

The project won't open after that. When I look ate my files they seem to be intact even though the message says the folder is missing from
    Your help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Joy
Unless I'm mistaken, K would be a network drive, no?
Unfortunately RoboHelp is only one of a host of applications that doesn't fare well if you try to make edits to a project while it resides on a network drive.
Try copying the project to your local C drive. Perhaps create a folder named Projects and copy your project to a folder named Primo Intranet inside that folder so it looks like this:
    C:\Projects\Primo Intranet
Once you do this, try opening your project again and you will likely have better luck.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Imovie project won't open in imovie?

I was working on my macbook in iMovie '09 on a project on a seagate external hard drive and the events was on the hard drive also. I've never had any problems with it crashing on me until this project and I just used it the day before. After 15 minutes into the project i try adding another title in and it just kept crashing from then on out when i try to add a title and preview the project in full screen.
To add to problem I unplugged the external hard drive (properly) and plugged it in my iMac imovie '11 and just added one title. Then I took the external hard drive back to my macbook and now the project won't even appear in imovie. And when i find the file itself in the hard drive and click to open it, it opens imovie but still no project. Somebody please help. I would greatly appreciated it.
It wouldn't be problem to work on it on my imac expect i have other people using it through out the day and my macbook is easier for me to work on where ever i'm at.
Please somebody say you have the answer?

I am only guessing but I suspect the problem occurs when they edit their projects on their personal Macs running Yosemite with iMovie 10.0.7.  Editing (and possibly just opening) in 10.0.7 probably makes the projects incompatible with iMovie 10.0.6, the latest version that runs under Mavericks.
It would not be the first time that even minor updates to iMovie make backwards-incompatible changes to projects.
Downgrading form 10.0.7 to 10.0.6 is not at all a straightforward option so other than updating all machines to Yosemite, I'm not aware of a simple fix.

  • IMovie Project Won't Open, Instead Freezes iMovie

I'm working on an iMovie project that's kind of sizeable- more than 20GB. Initially, I was storing it on an external hard drive while I worked, and things were going slowly, but I was making progress. Occasionally iMovie would freeze up while I was working (leading me to save after every single step), but I was slowly hewing the beast into shape.
Suddenly, though, I can't get the thing to open. Any attempt to do so leads to the progress bar slowly progressing (during which time I can do little to nothing else on my Mac) until it finally hits a wall and the program crashes. I decanted the file to my hard drive, but got the same result.
This project is something that I really don't want to lose! Does anyone have suggestions as to how I can get it open?

    Hi
+internal drive- Free space 8.43 GB (232.57 total), same formatting (only no dual partition)+
    Probably part of this problem.
I would secure a minimum of 25Gb free space to make Mac OS, iMovie and QuickTime
    to run as expected.
THEN before running iMovie again do.
    • Open internal hard disk (Macintosh HD - most often)
    • Locate a folder named "User"
    • In this find Your acount - has a small house as an icon
    • In this there is a folder "Library"
    • In this there is a folder "Preferences"
    • In this there are file/s named
    com.apple.iMovie.plist AND LIKE THIS
Move them out to desktop and NOW re-start iMovie.
Does Your project opens now after these two actions.
    • Secure free space
    • Delete iMovie pref file/s
    Yours Bengt W

  • Reverting 10.4 to 10.2...iMovie projects won't open now

After many headaches, I'm reverting from 10.4.2 to 10.2.8. Unfortunately, all the iMovie projects I created while using 10.4 cannot be opened when I boot using 10.2. Any advice in making these new iMovie projects compatible with an old OS?
    Thanks
    Byron

    we have three suspects:
    system
    Quicktime
    iMovie
    * to my knowledge, the system doesn't matter... ok, you should use "same" versions....10.3 with 6, 10.4 with 7... we expect iLife06 in january, because QT is on 7... hä???
    * QT - QT7 has some highlights, which are not supported with QT6, but iM uses .dv... that is older then QT6.... (hoooo....!!)
    * iM - as menitoned above: just upwards, not downwards.... esp. from <5 to iMHD there's no way back!

  • Project won't open after upgrade to FCP 6

I upgraded from FCP5 to 6, but now my current 107 Mb project file won't open (and neither will recent older versions of it). As FCP is reading the file, a message appears: "The filter 'shift fields' has been incorrectly applied. Do you want to fix?" Whether I reply yes or no, FCP crashes. There ARE some shift field filters used in the project. Should I open in FCP on another computer and remove all filters (A LOT of work and not guaranteed to find all of them)? An older, smaller project file WILL open.
Help! We're right in the middle of a big job!

Did you ever figure out how to open your file? I have the EXACT same problem - my file is 150MB. Big deadline, flew someone out to work on it and now I'm stuck!

  • IMovie Project Won't Open  on the Same Computer

I had just finished a long project.  I went to export it.  iMovie told me that their wasn't enough memory and to close the program.  THis happe when making my last project.  I did so and reopened it and everythign was fine.
This time however when I reopened it the project was missing from my project libaray!
Thankfully when I searched for it in Finder it IS there.  But when I click to open it.  iMovie opens, but the Project doesn't, nor does it apear in my in-iMovie project libaray on the side bar (though it is there in Finder).
    Please help!

This has happened to me before... I opened a project I had created in a previous version of FCP in the current version, and It would crash for apparently no reason. But then I noticed though it would crash as soon as I moved the playhead to a specific part.
Turned out to be an old Motion file created in the previous version of motion, that I was using as lower thirds. I managed to delete the bad file from the sequence and thankfully everything else worked fine.
    Good luck!
(Now to be on the safer side, I export movies of my Motion projects and use those in the sequence instead to avoid this sort of thing from happening.)

  • Imovie project won't open

I started a new project in imovie. Since it autosave i quit the program to take a break, when i came back imovie open with the events but not the project.
the project can be found in finder, but even if i double click imovie open but no project can someone help me??

Trash iMovie pref file - most often helps.
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Delete iMovie pref file - or rather start a new user/account - log into this and re-try
    iMovie pref file resides.
    Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
    and is named.
    com.apple.iMovie.plist
    com.apple.iMovie3.plist
    com.apple.iMovie7.plist
    com.apple.iMovie8.plist
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iMovie.
    • Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Garageband-fix. Start it, Play a note and Close it. Re-try (Corrects an audio problem that hinders iMovie)
    • Screen must be set to Million-colors
    • Third party plug-ins that doesn't work OK (not relevant for iMovie’08 or 09)
    iMovie updated ?
    QuickTime updated ?
    Mac osx updated?
You can also run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac

  • Saved project won't open after beachball

iDVD beachballed while background encoding (after finishing one of the DVDs movies and moving on to the next.) Left it for 2 hours to see if it wouldn't carry on carrying on, but no luck. Force Quit.
Upon reopening the project, iDVD just hangs again. Opening the app itself works, but for the love of JFC please don't tell me I'll have to recreate the project from scratch.
Any hints as to how to repair a project?

  • IPhoto won't open after sharing on local network

I have a Mac Mini OS 10.6.8 and an iMac OS 10.7.3 both running on a local network. The Mac mini has iPhoto 8.1.2 on it and the iMac has iPhoto 9.2 on it.
I accessed the Mini's iPhoto library from the iMac to do a project, and now I can't get iPhoto to open on the Mini. I keep getting a message that says, "You can't open your current iPhoto library using this version of iPhoto. You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto."
I have backed up my iPhoto Library to my external hard drive. I have tried rebuilding permissions in iPhoto and I went to the users/.../Library/Preferences/com.apple.iphoto.plist and deleted the prefs file in an effort to get iPhoto to open on the Mini, but no such luck. I have checked for updates to my software for the Mini, and nothing is needed.
What is my next course of action? Do I need to upgrade to a newer version of iPhoto?
    Thanks for your help!

Yes - either reload a backup on the mini from before you upgraded the library to iPhoto '11 or upgrade the mini to iPhoto '11
When you opened the library you were notified that the library would be upgraded and could not be opened by previous versions - you said to go ahead and that is exactly what was done

  • IMovie '09 Project Won't Open, Causes iMovie to Crash

A few days ago, an iMovie project that was fine if a little slow because it was large suddenly started to freeze when I added or tried to edit some audio, forcing me to force quit iMovie. Now today every time I open iMovie and try to open the project, the little rainbow ball pops up and everything in iMovie freezes, forcing me to force quit it again. I removed the project from iMovie and made more space on my computer and iMovie worked fine, but it started acting up again when I put the project back in. I'm worried the project may be corruputed somehow, especially because this is something I worked hard on for a long time now. I've heard there are ways to fix it, such as putting it through TextEdit or Word for Mac, but the project won't open in those programs. (And before you say it, yes I SHOULD have saved a previous version of it in Time Machine, but I didn't.) If there's a way I can fix this project without losing anything, please let me know!

  • FCPX Project won't open

    Hi,
I recently updated my fcpx after doing this one of my projects won't open. In the route project file an additional current version file has been produced it reads as follows - CurrentVersion.fcpproject-journal - Now. When I delete it FCP will open and try to read the project file but it then just wont open fcp at all it just stays on the screen saying reading project.
    Can anyone help?
    Tom

    Interesting…2 of everything.
Close FCP. In the Finder, go your project folder and open it. Take the "normal-looking" back-up and move it one level up in the folder hierarchy, so it's at the same level as the CurrentVersion file – like so.
If there is another oback-up (assuming there are two as in the event) take it and the the two CurrentVersion.fcp files and hide them – as Ian recommended – in a temp folder.
Take a screen shot of your back up file in case you need to change the name back later. Change the name of the moved back up file to CurrentVersion.fcpproject.
Open FCP and try to open the project.

  • My old logic 9 projects won't open properly in logic X

My old logic 9 projects won't open properly in logic X, even after saving as logic X files with all of the assets. None of the audio files are there, nor any of the data. It is just a blank project. Any ideas?

I'm sorry that my post is not going to be very helpful , but I would like to chime in and say I am experiencing this problem too ,
and I consider it to be BOOOOL -- SHUUUT !!!!
I am also experiencing apple app version-incompatibility between PAGES DOCUMENTS , in my pages app , which is just ridiculous !!!
Not being able to open word documents between 1 update of an app !??!?
I used to use apple products because it was convenient and user-friendly. This and many other things are driving me away.
It's getting to be a big irritation.
It is getting to be more and more like windoZe in the sense of being plug-and-PRAY.

  • ITunes won't open after OS update to Yosmite

ITunes won't open after OS update, ITunes has been updated, it won't open or bounce. It will not allow me to move it to trash or reinstall it. I have already updated to OS X Yosmite two times as directed by apple, I have rebooted in safe made as well as Command/Option/P/R before start up. I have opened console/system log to see if there is anything going on but when I click on Itunes nothing happens, not even so much as half a line of script. I'm stumped. If I wanted someone to tell me to turn it off and on again I'd just watch IT Crowd. please help

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities
If you head into your applications folder and locate iTunes. Right click iTunes and show package contents. In there there will be a contents folder --> MacOS --> double click on the iTunes terminal icon. This should force iTunes to open via a terminal window and at the very least it will tell you what it is getting stuck on.

  • ITunes won't open after downloading 7.0

My iTunes won't open after downloading 7.0, what should I do?

    replying to Robert
I get a Windows error code of 0x666D743F
    First see:
iTunes 7 for Windows: iTunes fails to launch with an unknown error
    There are some other possibilities
That error has been known to be produced by having Total Recorder or the Volume Logic plug-in installed on the PC.
For a workaround for Total Recorder, see:
