VoIP and half-duplex
Hello all,
I am having trouble with a Inter-Tel VoIP product. It seems I can't get the phones out of half-duplex mode. Anybody have any thoughts?
Thanks
We went back and experimented a bit with this. Turns out, we had to wait awhile, go to the finder, and return to network settings for this to work. We are now connecting correctly, using full duplex.
PHEW!!!! Maybe we CAN get this to work in our production environment!!! yay!

FaceTime audio half duplex / doesn't work simultaneously
I gave my parents a new iPad Air for Christmas. Note: They are 'older' and have a lot of trouble operating electronic devices. Before sending it to them I did check for recent updates, set up their email and contacts, installed some apps that I find useful and uploaded some photos. Otherwise it's a fresh unit right out of the box.
Yesterday we tried facetime with them. The video worked as it should. The audio seemed to be in a 'half duplex' mode on our device. Meaning, they could hear us perfectly and normally on the iPad. We could only hear them when we were perfectly quiet. Any sounds or talking on our end would mute their transmission during and about 1 second after speaking.
We tried multiple calls. (I called them and then they called me). We tried an iphone 5 and a MacBook, the problem was consistant in all cases. During one of our calls on the mac, my brother placed a facetime call to my phone and his connection worked perfectly, while my parent's connection continued to have the issue.
I sent them the following instructions, in hopes that it may fix the issue, but I'm doubtful. I don't have an iPad handy (only iphones and the mac in our house) so there may be some settings that are present on the iPad and not on the iphone that they should try. Any and all help would be appreciated! They live on Kauai, HI so if there are any places there that would be helpful that they could visit, I would appreciate the recommendation.
Go into settings, scroll down until you see facetime. Select it. There will be some settings for facetime. One simply says facetime and there is a small green slider button next to it. Touch the button. It should slide and turn white. This disables facetime.
Go to settings, then general, then software update. It should say "checking updates" and then will either display your version (7.0.4 ?) OR it will say there is a new update and you can download it. If so, download/install. (Should be a button asking and just hit yes or ok).
Next, do a network reset:
Go to settings, general, scroll down to "reset". Select reset and then select "reset network settings". It will ask if you want to do this and yes, you want to do it.
Next, After all this is done, reboot the ipad. This is done by pressing and holding the top (power/sleep) button and the home button down at the same time. Hold it for 30-seconds maybe longer until the screen goes black and then the apple logo appears. Then let go.
(If you hold just the upper button for 5 seconds a red slider will appear to allow you to turn off the ipad. For a reset just ignore that and keep holding down the buttons).
Once it reboots, add yourself back to your network. It may ask on its own, but if not :
Go to settings, then wi-fi. Select your network and enter your password.
Last, go into settings, general, facetime and turn it back on by touching the white slider button. It should turn green.
I found two other cases that sounded like mine:
https://discussions.apple.com/message/22808569#22808569
https://discussions.apple.com/message/22705969?searchText=Facetime%20duplex#2270 5969My parents called apple tech support. I'm not exactly sure what they did, but I think they just rebooted the iPad again, as done previously. It seems to be working better now, although it does still cut out now and then from sounds on my end of the line.
Another thing that seems to have helped, I determined that my parents had left it in the original plastic packaging and then crammed it into the case I gave them, which may have slightly muffled their microphones.
Anyway between these two things it is working better. We can speak on this end and still hear them talking. But now and then it still cuts out. -
Unable to use Auto setting or 100BaseTx in either full or half duplex!
Hi here is the issue, I have a small home network of three desktops, one laptop (wireless) and two game consoles with a WRTP54G router and cable modem. I have noticed that if I try to change the NIC setting on any device to either Auto or 100BaseTx in either full or half duplex the connection drops. The pc will say network unplugged, the minute I change it back to10BaseT in either full or half duplex it comes right back up! Before anyone asks yes my NIC's are 100BaseTx compatable. I have made sure all drivers are up to date. Has anyone had this issue? I would like to use 100Base Tx in Full Duplex! Any help would be appreciated!
hi. the auto sense feature of the router is not working anymore. i dont know if a firmware upgrade will help, but you can give it a shot.

NIC only works at 10 Mbps/Half Duplex
Ever since I got this MOBO (almost 1 year ago), I have not been able to connect faster than 10 Mbps/Half Duplex with my ADSL modem. Any attempt to change speed will result in Windows indicating tha the cable is unpluged (Auto mode does not work either). I've updated BIOS, NIC drivers, I've installed WinXP (and re-installed) with and without SP1 and SP2. I've also changed cables with no luck.
I got an external NIC from a friend and could connect at 100 Mbps/Full Duplex so the problem is NOT on the modem side.
System info shows the internal NIC shares IRQ 18 with a USB controller wich I uninstalled just to see if it would make a difference. Same results.
I've just installed the latest drivers from INTEL and I'm still getting the same problem.
Any ideas?
Help will be greatly appreciated.
AbrahamDon't know how to fix this but I had the same problem when I was connected directly to my cable modem. I eventually got it to run manually at 10Mbs-full duplex and didn't worry about it further since that's faster than actual transfer speeds from my ISP anyway.
I then configured a wireless network using a Linksys router and noticed that my NIC now automatically connects at 100Mbs-full dupex as it should.
If you feel this limiting your actual transfer speeds(it wasn't in my case) you might consider purchasing an inexpensive router. This will also give you the benefit of having a hardware firewall. -

My problem is its working in my system when it exceeds out the output is not available for me
Help me Please !!!String l=in.readLine();
while(l!=null)
out.println(l);
}That will print the same thing forever. Make it the same as the loop in the client.
Important Note: When i run this program specifying within my system its working ( i mean running the program in two different windows(terminals) its working for me)Looping forever might be what you call 'working'. I don't.
Its showing him unknownhost exception and main method not found like this.Change this:
new Socket(InetAddress.getByName("116.x.y.z"),98)to this:
new Socket("116.x.y.z",98)although your friend may then run into connectivity problems ... -
Catalyst 2960, Auto-MDIX, Auto-Speed and Auto-Duplex
Hi
I have a 2960 switch. Our ISP provided me with a straight-through cable and said that I needed to use a cross-over, and set speed to 100 and duplex to full.
Instead, I used Auto-MDIX, but then I have to set speed and duplex to Auto - the switch won't allow manual setting of speed and duplex when using auto-MDIX. The link then sets itself to 100-half.
Do I have to use a cross-over cable so that I can set the speed and duplex?
Thanks and regards
LeeHi Lee,
Yes with auto-mdix you cannot manually set the speed and duplex settings.
I think your ISP had set the duplex settings to half duplex and that is the reason it is negotiating to half duplex or if he is using some kind of converter between your switch and thier switch it could be an issue.
Also yes if you use a cross over cable you will definetely be able to set the speed and duplex setting to 100 and full but if your isp is on half duplex you will face collisions so just confirm from your ISP his switchport settings.
HTH, if yes please rate the post.

Allen Bradley KF-2 half duplex question
Has anyone used an Allen Bradley KF-2 DH+ communication interface with Lookout? The KF-2 connects to the SLC5/04 DH+ port and converts the DH+ to DF-1. My proccess can see the SLC5/04 in half duplex mode when I connect direct to the DF-1 port. When I try to connect through the KF-2 (set up for DF-1 half duplex), I get the Error "STS error 10: Illegal command or format" message. I know the KF-2 is set up OK, I can talk to the SLC5/04 with RS Logix in half duplex.

?Half-duplex Ethernet uses a loopback circuit to detect collisions? Is this mean I need to configure a loopback interface to make collision detection work? If yes, where to set that loopback interface? On the switch? Or host? Actually, I normally don?t need to create loopback interface when I plug my computer with hub. How this works? I just don?t understand that statement.
1.12You do not need to create any loopback interface. The book you are reading is explaining the technology in how a switch detects that there is a collision. This is a hardware mechanism in switches and we do not have to configure anything for this

Forced Full Duplex changes to Half Duplex (no mismatch errors)
Guys,
I am going through a very weird situation and wondered if any of you had any ideas on how I could troubleshoot this issue.
I am running a 2960 Cisco, which has a single mode fiber cable which is connected to multiple rstp switches designed by a mining technology company.
The fiber port which connects these switches has "duplex full" written into its configuration. However, after a random amount of time, anywhere from 1 hour to 24 hours, the port is changes to operate in half duplex. This is found by doing a show interfaces status.
At no time whatsoever is there any duplex mismatch errors.
Once i notice that the port is actually operating in half duplex mode, i log into the port, do a "duplex half" then "duplex full".. the port goes back into full duplex for another 1-24 hour period.
Any ideas on why this port keeps jumping into half duplex operation? I really need this port to run in full duplex and cannot understand why the port would go into half duplex operation when the end devices should support full duplex.
Again, i never get any duplex mismatch errors.
I appreciate any troubleshooting tips you can provide.MSTswitchOVCC#sh version

GLC-SX-MM auto detecting as half duplex
I have a 3945 router with a GLC-SX-MM connected to a Canoga 9145 with a 5 meter patch cable going to AT&T as a 100Mb Metro-E
Our performance is poor measuring about 4Mb up and 15Mb down. I have tried various test sites.
A show interface is showing: Half Duplex, 1Gbps, media type is SX
We are seeing a lot of output errors and TCP reassembly queue overflows
If I force the interface to full duplex I stop getting output errors and queue overflows but start getting interface resets. My performance also goes sub 1Mb
The ISP confirms their interface on the Canoga is properly configured. We have also replaced the patch cable.
Does anyone have any thoughts on possible causes?
Gary
http://bytesolutions.comYou're using a 1 Gbps interface and your SP is provisioning a 100 Mbps circuit? That doesn't make sense. Depending on your equipment, you should be using something like the GLC-FE-100FX=, a 100 Mbps SFP. (See http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/products/hw/modules/ps5455/products_device_support_tables_list.html )
Otherwise where is the buffering and queuing take place - in the Canoga? From its application guide, I believe it is intended to be used with the fiber on the provider side and the subscriber side is copper. Your post seems to describe the reverse setup. -
Half Duplex/100M problem on 2960 switch with GLC-GE-100FX
We have a 2960-24TC switch with GLC-GE-100FX SFP interface converter. We connected the switch to another switch through fiber, one end was GLC-GE-100FX and the other end was a 100/FULL ATI media converter. Both switches could talk to each other. The problem was the GLC-GE-100FX interface running at 100M/half duplex status and we couldn't change the port configuration. Is there a way to fix this problem? Your help would be much appreciated.
Using show interface command. It shows half duplex. It's a new design on Cisco 2960-24TC switches, the Giga uplink ports are dual purposed. When I plugged GLC-GE-100FX SFP interface converter and connected it to a media converter, it showed half duplex. There's no way I could change the speed and duplex under that configuration.

Router is a Cisco 1840 Series. Our ISP controls the router, The router is set to 10 Mb's half duplex. Is this a common thing for the routers to come from the ISP's configured like this? If so, is there some reason why they do this? The half duplex setting really puzzles me. Why wouldn't it be set at full duplex?
I'm wondering if the reasoning is, well it collapses down to a T1 which is running at 1.5 Mb's, so 10 Mb's is fast enough, why run at 100 Mb's.Router is a Cisco 1840 Series.

Hi,
Because half duplex will work in just about all situations. If it's set to full duplex and the other device is a hub or a device that doesn't support full duplex then you'd have no connectivity.
So can set full duplex with 100 Mbps at both the end side in coordination with your ISP.
Hope to Help !!
