Voip + down/uploading = choppy communication
Other than lowering my down/upload rate manually (Bittorrents), I have not found a solution to choppy communication when making a Voip call. My understanding is that a router with QoS would solve this. My hopes were that Apple would implement this on their new Airport Extreme, but I can not see from the specs that it has done so. Is there another solution to this problem?
I am having a similar issue, and please bear with me, I am a relatively new Mac user and after reading every ding dong post in these discussions, I understand about 1/8 of it... I have a MacBook with DSL service and Vonage VoIP. My cable goes from the wall into my DSL bridge. A cable then connects that to my Linksys WRTP54G Wireless Router / Phone Adapter. A phone cord goes out of one of the phone ports into my phone I use for Vonage.
For a couple of months, everything was hunky dory. Then, mysteriously, one day, I began to have this problem: when I try to access the internet while I'm on my Vonage phone, I hear choppiness, usually sufficient enough to hamper all communication. It may have been after a recent software update, and I'm sorry that I don't remember... It is my understanding that the people I'm talking to DON'T hear this intermittant interruption. I have bugged my DSL providers continuously and after a gazillion ping tests and so forth and so on, they report no problems in their service.
I'm aware that VoIP requires a certain amount of bandwidth, and Vonage declares that to be around 90 or so. My DSL has upload / download speeds of approximately 350-380 / 280-320. It seems as if my computer is giving the use of the Internet priority over my VoIP all of a sudden for no apparent reason at all except to drive me freakin' crazy. I use my Vonage line as a business phone, so I'm frantically trying to figure out what's going on. I need to be able to use the internet while I'm on the phone.
I have tried to troubleshoot this by making the following changes:
+changing my Vonage bandwidth allocation from their website
+using a cable instead of Airport to access the Internet
+aggravating my DSL providers to the point of no return
+doing the whole "turn everything off, turn it all back on again in order" thing
+randomly changing Ethernet settings which I completely know nothing about in my 'Network' -> 'Built-in Ethernet' -> speed and reducing the MPU size all the way down to the minimum
+using a non-cordless phone
+using a 5.8 ghz cordless phone
+using a 2.4 ghz cordless phone
+praying
+cussing
I have no idea what QoS is, so could someone help me figure out if that can help me? Alternatively, is there a way to tell my router to give priority to my VoIP instead of internet browsing?
Again, I apologize if any of this reveals my ignorance, and please, speak in the simplest of terms if you have the chance to respond. I read some of these discussion answers, and I don't think I'm as smart as the rest of you... (obviously, it's taken me 12 years of computer use to switch to Mac).
Much Much Much Obliged and biting my nails until someone responds...,

Down-/Upload files via Web Services using a NON-SAP system!?
Hello,
is it possible to down-/upload files via web services using a NON-SAP system!?
Regards,
JensHi Jens,
I am not sure about your requirement here. What i could understand is that you want to check whether service could handle file processing?
1) Uploading file - You can build a Webservice which has import/export parameters as the file structures and implement the proxy class in such a way that the passed data is written to application server.
2) Downloading file - Same as uploading file, but the proxy class would have the code to extract data from the application server and pass them as output parameter.
Functionality of Non SAP system: The system which calls these services should be able to convert the output of proxy data into file in case of downloading the file and it should be able to convert the file data into export parameters in case of uploading file.
Hope this helps.

Problem logging into iPlanet Calendar Server from pull-down menu in Communicator
When I run the iPlanet Calendar Server's cstool
utility and enter the command<BR>
<P>
cstool -p 80 ping name.of.server
<BR>
<P>
I receive the message<BR>
<P>
Calendar Server is up and running!
<P>
I can also access the LDAP service of the Calendar Server with no problem.
However, if I try to connect to this server using the pull-down menu for
Netscape Communicator 4.7 with Calendar, I receive the error message<BR>
<P>
The server is unreachable. Verify that the network is available and that the
server application is running.
<P>
To use the iPlanet Calendar Server client, point your browser at the client
port that was specified when the iPlanet Calendar Server was installed.
<P>
For example,<BR>
<P>
http://your_server_name:80
<P>
If you forgot which client port is specified, you can find the value for the
port number in the service.http.port
parameter in the server's
/opt/SUNWicsrv/cal/bin/config/server.conf
file.So if you accepted the defaults during the installation process who are the database users? ias_admin? system? sys? I've tried all and gotten ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied. These fail in the OEM console as well. I apologize in advance if the answer is embarassingly obvious.

Down/upload photos from Fascinate to PC or laptop
Warning - I don't call myself a novice without reason. I have some great pics on my phone from vacation that I want to save on my computer and send to the friends who went with me. When I went to the Verizon store to ask a couple of questions on how to do this, the young man said that when I plug the cord from the Droid phone to the PC, an icon or whatever would pop up and I would just start clicking and would figure it out. Okay, so I went home to try it. When I do plug it in, a small window appears for just a couple of seconds. I have to keep un-plugging and re-plugging for that little window to appear so I can see what it says. I have managed to quickly click on a couple of things, both of which led me to odd places which made so sense to me. I THINK the picture info might actually be blocked due to security - could this be possible? My phone to my computer? I have never done one of these community forums before, so if you are so kind to reply, you might send a short test message first to see if I can handle it!
You have the option to send the pictures to an e-mail address as a picture message. You will then be able to save it onto a file.
Your Fascinate has a removable memory card so that you may transfer pictures from your handset to your PC via a card reader. Below I have provided you with the steps to do so.
1. Access photo from "My Pictures" and choose "Options."
2. Select "Move" or "Transfer."
3. Remove memory card and insert card and card reader in USB port.
4. Go to your file directory on the PC. Transfer files to the folder of your choice.
I hope this information is helpful.
Thank you,

Too slow down/uploading speed FTP + airport extreme b.s.
Hi guys,
I've just switched form WIN to MAC...I've bought the Apple Powerbook 17" and Airport Extreme Base Station...I didn't have any problems with setting up airport extreme for connection to the Internet + I've connected PC and MAC wirelessly to the Internet.
Here's my problem...I've found out that the download speed from FTP server is to low (under 1 MB/s when using airport extreme).....while when I connect my PC to the Internet using LAN cable, the speed is about 6MB/s ....
where's the problem?
Is there any possibility of raising the speed when using airpport extreme?
Any ideas?
Thank youGeoffrey,
I haven't gotten to the bottom of it yet - I am going to reset the base station and revert the firmware back to the second-to-latest version. I've heard there can be issues with the latest version.
I notice you're connecting wirelessly - that probably always will be slower but you can tweak your settings a bit - if you have 'enable interference robustness' on, you could try turning it off, there's also a speed setting there too.
My problem happens with it in wireless, yes, but weirder, working wired too - my adsl modem runs into the airport, then out to a router. Speed on a PC connected to that router seems ok, but all my macs are slow as anything, If I connect them directly to the ADSL modem, the speed improves - it seems to be an issue between the Extreme, and the macs - and, weirder still, some are on OSX.3.9 and some are on OS9.2.2 -
Shut down the communication channel query
Hi Experts,
I wanted to know answers to the following
1) Is there any limit on the number of messages that can pile up in the adapter engine if we shut down (Deactivate the communication channels)?
2) When we reopen the communication channels later, will the messages be processed in the same order they have arrived?

completely depends on your server configuration (h/w)

once they are reopen you will have to manually resend them and again if they are EOIO configured then the sequence will be maintained. -
How can I put my iMac to sleep after it has finished downloading or uploading something?
For example: I have some photos and videos that I want to send to a friend. I'm uploading them to a site to do this, and they're quite big files (250 MB).
I'd like to do this at night, but I don't want to let the computer run all the night through, when this maybe only needs a few hours.
I can only guess how long it will take (judging by the time it tells me that it will take, if available), and then I can set the computer to go to sleep after X hours or minutes.
Can I not just simply set it in a way that it goes to sleep automatically after the process is finished? Like, if there's a connection to the internet, that is being used (downloads, uploads), then it shouldn't go to sleep, else it will interrupt the upload, and I can start again.
Also, I have an iMovie update now, which is over a GB of download.
I may be mistaken, but I have the feeling that for some Apple programs, it actually keeps the computer awake until the process is done. But it isn't the case with all programs, only with some.
It's really annoying. Does anyone know a solution? I know that there's this box that you can tick, that says something like to keep the computer from going to sleep if there's a network connection, but in earlier OS this was actually working! Now it's 100% useless.You can just set your Mac to sleep using the Energy Saver in System Pref. Set it to sleep after say, 2 mins of inactivity then check the Put Hard Disk to Sleep setting too. It won't sleep while you are down/uploading.

When creating new users for Poland the default communication language is set to Polish.
But not possible to select it in the drop down box.
Now we start to the fine-tuning for Poland and activate the language Polish (and Chinese) and still the same.
Polish is displayed, but when changing to e.g. English and can't go back to polish, as not available in drop down
1. Go to the Application & User Mgt. WoC
2. Go to the Business Users
3. Select the User (of Poland)
4. Edit -> Attributes
5. Change the language as per screenshot
The additional language is only visible for translation of Expense Types.
Is my expectation correct to see Polish (and Chinese) in the drop down for the communication language for user (as from empl repl idoc Polish is set as default).
If selected, do we have e-mails in polish, or are just some exepense types translated to polish
- visible in e-mails)
- visible on UI (even when logedin in english)?Hi All,
I have clarified the requirement with our Product Owner.
The reason for this behavior is that polish logon language support for Cloud for Travel & Expense is only available with next version which will be available after system upgrade.
So after upgrade, You should be able to select polish as language to users after having changed it to English before.
By the way, the field language in User attributes in Work center Application & User management doesn't refer to the communication language but only to the default logon language.

Start and stop the Communication channel from Java Mapping
How to start and stop the Communication channel from Java Mapping in XI 3.0
Scenario PI - > MQ -> Third Party web application
Web application is down and then Communication channels are stop manually .
We need to automate this process,
MQ Solution - Trigger will be set in MQ which will be called when web application is stopped
Trigger will send u201CSTOP u201C message to PI
How to configure PI scenario to stop different com channels when this message received ?check this link: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/EN/45/0c86aab4d14dece10000000a11466f/frameset.htm
make sure that MQ send http request to PI. i dont think a configuration scenario is required in PI. Only roles should be enabled with proper user provided to MQ team.
However, for security reasons, you can configure a scenario if you dont want to expose PI infrastructure directly to 3rd parties. -
Hello,
So I am wondering if the issue with VoIP phones is universal with the LRT224 Phone? Has this problem been reproduced in the Linksys labs? Will this issue be addressed by Linksys Engineers?
Would have settuping up VLAN's worked?Hey,
Sorry for the delayed response. We have one LRT224 with two WAN Connections and one LAPN600 for the access point. Our network is completely wireless with around 30 devices total (7 IP Phones). We use Cisco SPA525G Phones.
Our VoIP provider is Jive Communications.
I am using the EA4500 and everything works fine on it. The main issue I am having with these phones going through the LRT224 is that phone calls were not coming, and you could not dial other extension throughout the office.
If you have any other questions, please let me know. -
Why 2.38 vs 20.24 mbps down load in firefox vs safari?
Comcast replaced connectors and a short cable and before leaving tested the 'speed'
Showed a 12 mb connection service from wherever he tested it.
Checking http://www.speedtest.net/ shows an ENORMOUS difference in 'speed' between Safari and Firefox
Safari runs 20-24 mbps DOWN
FireFox runs 3.33- 5.10 mbps Down
Uploads range closer FF 2.76 and Safari 2.05
Why such a difference? FF version 3.6.24; and Safari 4,1,3
Using Tiger 10.4.11 so cannot use 'Chrome'.If Safari is getting very slow:
(Presumably you regularly empty your Safari cache by deleting the following file:
Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/cache.db
and clear your History)
Adding Open DNS codes to your Network Preferences, should give good results in terms of speed-up as well as added security, (including anti-phishing and redirects) (Full information about Open DNS is here: http://www.opendns.com/home/nobloat ) and further independent information can be read here:
http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57338784-263/free-dnscrypt-tool-enhances-ma c-web-security/?tag=mncol;txt
and here:
http://www.macworld.com/article/1146064/troubleshootdns.html?t=234
Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu, and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' add the following two numbers:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
(You can also enter them if you click on Advanced and then DNS) -
About communication between C program and VI with CIN
I programmed a VI includes an UART communication CIN to communicate with a C program end. Now this two ends cannot communicate in same speed (bit/sec). If the VI is given a higher speed than the C end it can receive a correct data from the C end but has a Framing error. The C code in CIN can communicate with C program end normally. Does VI affect the UART communication setting? Analyzing the hpenomenon, the VI will slow down the CIN communication.
I will be very glad that you can give me any advice.
Thanks in advance,
James2001Probably it's true that the VI slow down the CIN (the time required for exchanging data). In order to avoid different processing speed, try to implement handshaking.

Remove old Applications from Adobe Community Help
With PSE9, Adobe Community Help was installed for the first time on my computer. As I have installed PSE9 before uninstalling PSE8, and afterwards uninstalled PSE8, I now see PSE8 and PSE9 in Adobe Community Help Client.
How can I get rid of applications no longer installed in the Adobe Community Help Client?
Thanks

SwitzerlandMark, Iam using 3.5.0.23 which states it is completely up to date.
After removing the old CS5 suite and upgrading to CS5.5 I can report that ALL of the old community help for the old suite is STILL present along side the new documentation.
Although there is an option in "Local Content" to delete old documentation, this list does not correlate AT ALL to the documentation from the old suite listed in "Download Prefferences".
It isn't really relevent whether or not the old documentation listed in this section is downloaded or not. The annoying thing is that it's STILL listed. (In my case I had to go through and untick ALL of the old applications documentation).
Example "Adobe Media Encoder CS5" unticked, "Adobe Media Encoder CS5.5" ticked etc. etc.
This bias that your talking about obviously doesn't appear to work. The old documentation is still listed in "Download Preferences". Those options in the download section of the Adobe Community Help application should have been removed when I uninstalled the old CS5 suite (obviously an ommition). So something should be implemented in the Adobe Community Help application to enable users to "not see" those options if they do not have the relevent applications or suites installed. (They shouldn't really have to go through this list deciding which ones to tick and which ones to untick... after the suite is uninstalled, these options still remain ticked and continue to update along side the new applications causing a slow down of the community help application while it indexes the files and another burden on disk space and fragmentation and bandwidth). The help for an entire "master suite" is quite substantial. It really doesn't need to be duplicated in this way. -

Very slow internet behind IOS Firewall
Hi,
This is my first post in the community, so Hello everyone!
Just a (hopefully) quick question,
I am using a Cisco 887VA-M-K9 router to connect to my ISP via VDSL.
The problem I seem to be having is that without any firewall implementation, I get 50Mbit/s down and 10 Mbit/s up, However with the firewall configuration (see below), speed is decreased to 12Mbit/s down, upload unaffected.
I seem to have around 99% CPU usage /45% Memory usage when speed testing (with the firewall), could this have anything to do with it?
Many thanks!

endI would recommend scaling back on some inspections, for instance look at a few policy-maps and remove them. Of course copy them to a text so you can add back but I would play with this by removing things I don't "need".
For instance, what do we "trust" and what do we "untrust"? Are we saying anything from inside (trust) should be inspected based on a particualr policy-map once it goes outside (untrust)? What is outside though? i.e. Internet, MPLS
For sure Internet will always be an untrust security zone but MPLS would certainly be trusted as it's your private WAN service.
Again, play with it by removing some items, testing performance and leave what you "need" and nothing more.
Did you create this via CCP by chance?
