VoIP via Homezone

Hi there!
What would you say if you could make calls from one cell phone to another for as little as 5 cts. PER HOUR?
Although this is feasible, there are a few things you need to consider in order to call at such fabulously low rates:
- Phone calls must be from land line to land line, national or international
- You need to set up a (call-by-call) account with a VoIP provider (e.g. voipstunt, voipcheap, ...)
- You need to be inside or near your home (i.e. your homezone’s address) to start a call
- You need to be on-line to initiate the call
How can you make it happen?
You would need a mobile contract that includes a land line phone number (e.g. o2 genion, vodafone Zuhause / @ home, ...); the person you want to call would need either a similar contract or a working land line phone.
As, depending on the provider, your homezone can be as large as 2 sq km, the recipient of the call does not necessarily have to be at home, close-by can be good enough.
Once the call has been initiated and the connection is set up, you are free to go wherever you want.
These homezone features are set up to stay at homezone settings even if you leave the perimeter during the call.
You may also call mobile phones, yet those calls will be charged – besides the 5 cts. per call/hour – at 10 cts. to 20 cts. per minute.
Nevertheless, these charges might still be lower than what you would usually pay by just using your mobile phone.
Although you need to prepay the provider, the minimum payment is 10 Euros (net) and they are valid for up to four months, after which you can still use your payment for calls, yet regular rates will apply.
Any questions?
Cheerio!

VoIP via Homezone - Best thing since sliced cheese!

Dear Jainthomaspala,
thank you for your message.
Alas, with the 7360 it seems to be a different story, as my older 1600 has the same option as you indicate.
Still, when activating this option in my new 7360, it will only display the call time once I hang up the receiver...
Cheers!

  • Connecting VOIP via Time Capsule

I have a Time Capsule and have been trying to install a VOIP phone to the capsule to enable to the phone to connect to the internet. It is an ethernet connection but the time capsule doesn't see to allow the unit to connect through to the internet

Open the network preferences and make sure the ethernet is getting an IP from the TC.. you do not need to change any settings .. all you need is network connection.. if the ethernet is working just turn off airport for the time the backup is going on. Once you turn off airport in the MBP the connection will be forced to ethernet. You can do it more correctly by rearranging the order of preference for network connection.. but for now.. just turn off airport.

  • E51 VoIP via WIFI

Can any 1 tell me if E51 supports voip over wireless lan?
I have Cisco VOIP in my office. Can I configure e51 to use wifi for voip?

SIP services are the protocols and servers that are used for making a voip system work.
Your Cisco PABX will be supplying a set of SIP services (registration, call-proxy, gateway etc.).
You usually don't need to know about SIP services, except for the set of parameters to configure your SIP client to use the services of your provider (PABX).
The set of SIP services is open ended and loosely standardised. This means that some providers can support features that others can't, and in some cases, some clients (phones) can't connect through a particular provider.

  • 7360 - current call's time

    Hi there!
I am looking for the option to turn on and display the duration of a call that is currently being made.
I managed to find the option to display the call time once the call has finished, yet that is too late if I want to stay within a time limit or use it for VoIP that times out after one hour.
On my old one (Nokia 1600) I found it under "Call Options", yet the 7360 does not seem to have that really useful feature...
Thank you for your help in this matter!

  • N97: making voip calls via the GSM mobile

    Hi All;
I am facing a problem that my Nokia N97 that is working with VoIP (via the SIP), is only working if I am using my wireless internet in the home (via the access point), but when I try to do the call using my GSM internet service provider (we call it EGO and in some countries it is GPRS).
Some other mobile, they support VoIP using the wireless access point or the internet via the GSM (mobile) service provider ...
So how can I fix this issue on my N97?
    Regards
    Bilal

I have the same problem: I can make and receive calls using my router but not through GPRS allthough i did set AWCDMA' and 'UAWMAC' to ON

  • VOIP ATA & Setting up Time Capsule

    Hello,
I have a lynksys AM300 with a Time Capsule connected to it. I was to introduce a ATA device but will need to connect it to the TC. What do I need to do to configure the TC so that the VOIP via ATA will work?
    Thanks
    Morgs

Did you also reboot the TC? What mode is the TC running, as it seems strange for your wifi to drop out.. the self-assigned IP means it simply hasn't got dhcp working.
I will have to search but there is a thread of people having issues with TC and these later Motorola cable modems.. they seem to not work particularly well.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4692752?start=0&tstart=0
If it has dual NAT then you should bridge one device or the other.. I do not know how the 6141 goes, but a lot of new cable modem routers have no bridge setting as such but you simply turn off NAT.
You can certainly bridge the TC easily.
Double NAT causes issues and you are best getting it back to a more ordinary setup with one NAT router.

  • VoIP problem Nokia E52

    Hi!
I have a problem trying to setup JustVoIP service on my Nokia E52. I installed the VoIP Settings Manager and set up everything as below:
    Profile Name: justvoip
    Service Profile: IETF
Default Destination: Internet (I am using VoIP via my Home-WLAN)
    Default Access Point:  none
Public Username: sip:[email protected] (Note: “sip:” will always be added automatically)
    Use compression: No
Registration: When needed or always on (choose your preference)
    Use Security: No
Proxy & Registration Server have identical(!) values:
    Server Address: sip:sip.justvoip.com
    Realm: justvoip.com
    User name: YOURJUSTVOIPUSERNAME
    Password: YOURJUSTVOIPPASSWORD
    Allow loose routing: Yes
    Transport type: UDP
    Port: 5060
I see the service but I cannot enable it. Whan I try to activate, the message "Invalid settings" appeares. The most funny thing is, that at the beginnig it worked fine! With the same settings! Anybody know, what is going on here?
    Thank you for your help!

Same issue on E72 and XM 5630 here. Other people experienced it also with N97.
you can read this info in http://discussion.forum.nokia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=192607
VoIP3.x registers a user, it writes a randomly translated username in the contact URI, i.e. aweofj293j2c0239jdwiofje0@nataddress instead of username@nataddress
Ougoing calls are not an issue (when the client succeeds to register) howevver for incoming calls the server has to put this translatedusername in the request-URI of his INVITE. Some Registars do that, but yours and mine don't.
This interpretation of how SIP should work by Nokia was not implemented in prior versions of Nokia VoIP settings (v 2. and v 1 used on FP1 models such as E61, N95, etc) thus enabling incoming calls to work for all.
Now however it seems this is the new standard Nokia has chosen to go for with all new models thus leaving us with a choice to either :
1- have our service providers patch their registrars to make them work with this new Nokia implementation or
2- use alternative third party VoIP apps for our devices instead of the native/integrated Nokia SIP client. or
3- change SIP service provider to use ones that run Registrars compatible with this new implementation...

  • 7940 Config and flash issues

Hi, i'm hoping somebody can please help me.
I have been using VOIP via a softphone for a couple of years now, I decided that I wanted to have a go at setting up a Cisco phone. So I have got a 7940G second hand which works fine. I am a home user trying to learn so I am using a BT Homehub with dynamic IP and SIP on voip-talk.org
The phone was still configured form the previous owner with subnet, DNS, FTP, VLAN etc. I couldn't find a how to edit these settings, so I thought if I set it back to factory defaults, told it to delete network cfg. I thought on restarting it might ask me to input the detail? but it showing "configuring VLAN" and then constantly stays on "configuring IP"
although it stills picks up an IP via DHCP and I can ping it ok, I can also browse on to the web interface which show the following info

Thanks for looking and your help

    Hi
I think the main issue you have with this phone is that its not picking up a TFTP server IP address and therefore cannot download any configuration details.
As a start i'd check that the IP address range that it has got via DHCP has an option 150 setup to your CUCM TFTP server.
Once its got this, if you have auto registration setup if should at least boot up
    Hope this helps

  • Help! My wife is threating to call the Nerd Herd (AEBS-n)

    Hi,
I posted this a few months ago and didn't really get any responses and now my thread has been archived so I'm trying again. I'm really hoping that someone can help out on this one as it doesn't seem like it should be a huge problem, yet it's had me stumped for quite a while. My wife is threatening to call in Geek Squad but I know they'd just end up screwing things up more and charging us for the privilege.
Here's the scenario: I have a "U" shaped house that has an atrium in the middle. End to end on the house is maybe 50 ft. At one end, say the top left corner, of the "U" is an Airport Extreme Base Station-n ("AEBS-n"). At the middle of the right side of the "U" is my Apple TV and Tivo (collectively called "A/V gear"). The network connection is very unreliable between the AEBS-n and the A/V gear. I've iStumbled around the house and found that I have reasonable signal strength (~45%)until about 5 feet from the A/V gear at which point iStumbler will still see my network and report a signal strength of ~39% and my macBook drops the connection.
There are about 9 other networks in my immediate vicinity (according to iStumbler) with 4 belonging to our soon-to-be-defunct public WiFi service but I'm not seeing any channel interference.
I have two older Airport Express-g ("AE-g") which I used to try and configure as a WDS around the edge of the "U" by putting one in each bottom corner of the overall "U" yet I still find a similar problem. The weird thing is that the signal strength seems to get better but still the network connections all die in the area adjacent to the A/V gear.
When I move a little from the A/V gear I can reconnect to the network but I still have problems which can be evidenced by large rates of dropped packets between the laptop and the AEBS-n. The most reliable configuration seems to be removing the WDS environment entirely and disabling the two AE-g. In that configuration my AppleTV and Tivo Series-3 will ~sometimes~ be able to access the network but it's very inconsistent.
Other house details that may help-- there is a 2.4Ghz phone near the base station (VoIP via Vonage) and no microwaves in the house. There isn't really much else to cause interference, most of the exterior walls around the atrium are aluminum framed glass or wood siding.
At this point I've pretty much run out of ideas not to mention my Tivo just ran out of it's program guide. Now the wife is involved and wants it fixed. My geek credentials are on the line friends. Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

I didn't see this mentioned: what channels are your basestation using, and your neighboring wireless stations using? Have you tried changing the channel to be as far away from the others as is possible?
Many out of the box configs use channel 6, I've found that I have a lot of luck when using channel 1 in my area as most people don't change the channel from the default. iStumble should show you the channel, if not try to find a copy of KisMAC.
Also it is very telling that the signal so abruptly drops off around your AV gear. Do you have unshielded speakers? Any other sources of metal other than what you stated your walls are made of? Is there perhaps any small alcove or protrusion shapes to your walls in the area?
Wireless signal diffract and reflect when they hit metal objects. This creates numerous 'ghost' signals that the wireless gear has to attempt to filter out, which can cause a lot of issues. Since you have a lot of aluminum in your house, this could be exacerbating the issue.
Are your Tivo and ATV near a wall or far from it? Try moving them closer or farther from the wall, as this could affect how much of those ghost signals they could be receiving.
Give some of that stuff a try and see what happens.

skype compatible app for text and/or voip via wifi?

I charge my iPhone every day - I always charge my iPhone at night so I start each morning with a fully charged battery, and I often charge my iPhone some during the day. I have a vehicle charger and I usually connect my iPhone to my vehicle charger when driving.
    This link may be helpful.

I wouldn't consider my iPhone's silent switch as sort of slack, but it is easier to turn on and off than the silent switch with my first generation iPhone.
I don't have insurance for my iPhone, but I use an iSkin case for the occasional drop, and my iPhone is either being used, in my hand or pocket, or on a table near me when at home and on my nightstand when sleeping. I used my iPhone in place of a landline.

  • Skype for iPad??

Has anyone even bothered trying to download or use the new version of Skype for the iPad? Might be just me but I am unable to download it from the app store.
I'm still trying to figure out how it would work on the iPad. Like the calling feature. Does the iPad support a headset with a mic? They say it's compatable with the iPad and that you can make calls with the iPod so I thought it would be cool...if it works that is.
    Thanks

    iScared,
I'm not certain if you are questioning the newest Skype version, or if you question Skype for the iPad in general. Anyway, here's my input:
    * I have made at least four calls with Skype from my iPad, before I updated the latest Skype version.
    * One person I called about 50 miles away said the audio was great. I actually knew that already, because my first call was a test to my home voice recorder.
    * Yes, last week I downloaded the latest Skype version, but have not made a call yet.
    * With each call, I used the Apple earphone which came with the iPhone.
    * The iPad has a built-in mic, and Skype has a speaker option, so the earphone is unnecessary. I prefer it though.
    * I would use Skype more often; however, my iPhone has lots of unused (paid) minutes. With Skype, I would need to pay for my use, albeit it's a nominal amount.
    * My longest call was about one hour. No issues.
Yes, Skype or VoIP, via the iPad is very cool. It is great knowing that I can place calls with my iPad if I choose to do so. Oh, there's one annoyance. If your existing U.S. contact numbers do not begin with a 1, the call will not be completed. You must dial as 1 (xxx) xxx-xxxx in the U.S. Either update your contacts list before you download Skype, edit afterwards, or manually dial. Hope this helps.

    Exciting for who one wonders
Perhaps the future is IP phones, where you keep the same phone number, no matter where you are.
With IPV6 just around the corner, there will be enough IP addresses to allow this. At present, this is only viable within corporate networks.
These phones would fit very well into BTs 21CN, which is IP based.

  • BT Infinity - Varying speeds and latency issues

    Hi,
I have had BT Infinity 80MB since around May 2014 upgrading from my existing BT ADSL connection. I work from home and use VOIP via a softphone on my laptop. When I used ADSL I experienced no isses with jitter or latency and I could hold a crystal clear conversation. Since 'upgrading' to BT Infinity I am no longer able to sustain a clear VOIP call, voice is choppy. This is due to ping response times going through the roof. I set a continous ping to www.bbc.co.uk, every 30 seconds or so the ping response time/latency goes through the roof rendering the VOIP call unbearable (see below).
This isn't an issue with my laptop as I can use other wireless networks with no issues and I have tried whilst directly plugged in to my router. The router I have is a HUB 5, I have factory defaulted it but this is an issue with the line.
How can I get in contact with someone from BT to get this resolved? Everytime I go through the online help it never detects an issue with latency or speed. I have also tried the BT Wholesale test. I am currently getting 20MB....

Some of those ping responses are well out of range. One of the Moderators (who work for BT) should look at this.
Unfortunately a lot of people are / or have been experiencing such issues with the Infinity product (especially over the last month or so). Personally I believe there is either something fundamentally wrong in the BTWholesale backhaul, or that many exchanges are simply oversubscribed. Unfortunately technical analysis is rarely forthcoming on this site.
The first thing to eliminate is a problem with your line.
Try a quiet line test - details here http://support.zen.co.uk/kb/Knowledgebase/Performing-a-Quiet-Line-Test
if there is any noise the best advice seems tobe  report it as a telephone fault rather than a broadband issue.
Other tests - if you have a Homehub 5 you might want to post the first 12 lines of your Stats (this will alert many of out-of-range line statistics).
I would let other posters pick up the thread at this point.
But if you're like me your line will be fine and the BTWholesale test will be fine but the problem wil persist

    And 3G video calling...?

    Hi Sureshsurya,
    Welcome to the forum!
Are you referring to Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) via 3G network? If yes, try to check this link for steps on how to configure 3G VoIP on your phone: FAQ - How to configure Nokia Symbian^3 devices for VoIP Internet calls? Note that the availability of the service still depends on your operator. Best to ask them first for the right mobile settings for your phone. By the way, 3G video calling is not available for the Nokia 500 as it doesn't have a front camera.
