Volatile users and Groupwise settings

OES2, Groupwise 7.1. Win XP on the workstations.
We're starting to use a volatile user policy on a few of our computers and have run into a snag. I need to turn off Integrations under the Documents Setup in Options.
Since the policy is creating new profiles all the time, Groupwise doesn't retain this setting. I've looked at the Client settings under C1 and don't see anything that can help.
Anyone know of a network side setting for Groupwise changes?
Thanks,
Sam

I don't do volatile profiles, but can't you assign it to Default User
and have stuff be merged in?

  • How to do a Clean Install (Don't preserve users and network settings)

I'd like to make a clean install of Snow Leopard -- but NOT erasing the whole drive and NOT migrating/preserving my users and network settings.
I have a bunch of applications and huge data sets (about 40G) on the boot drive that I don't want to go through the trouble of reinstalling or backing up, and that do not install Application Support folders and the like. I'd like to keep them, as well as migrate files like fonts and preferences over manually. Thus I don't want to format in disk utility and install.
I seem to remember there was the option in Tiger (Leopard maybe?) to Archive and Install Without Preserving anything, such as network settings, users, extensions and preferences. It would leave a completely fresh System, and a Previous System where I could manually migrate over everything I wanted to keep.
Is this possible in Snow Leopard?
    Thanks.

    Let me clarify.
Snow Leopard does an Archive and Install, BUT it PRESERVES Users and Settings. The default install "upgrades in place".
I have been having all sorts of weird crashes and hangs on my Leopard install and i want a fresh, not upgraded install.
I WANT to keep my old Leopard system so I can manually transfer over fonts, files, and applications.
I WANT an upgrade that DOES NOT preserve Preferences, Application Settings, extensions, etc. etc. etc.
But, I do NOT want to have to completely format and install, because that would involve burning approximately 60G of files and applications to DVD-Rs and copying them back.
    Thanks.

I enabled tracing on a domain gpo and I still get the error when running gpupdate /force .

I may need to Archive and Install but I'm unable to select the "Preserve Users and Network Settings" checkbox when selecting Archive and Install. It's simply greyed out.
    Any ideas?

    Alan,
Try repairing disk and repairing permissions first. Then try the Archive and Install option again.
If that doesn't work you can always use a firewire drive and with carbon copy cloner, clone the drive. Then do a clean install and with the migration wizard import the users and network settings back. If you don't have firewire drive you can just do the Archive and Install without checking the "Preserver Users.." option. Your old users will still be in the "/Previous System/Users" folder.

  • Cannot select Preserve Users and Network Settings

I am trying to do an Archive and Install but want to save my user settings but I cannot select "Preserve Users and Network Settings" as it is grayed out and unelectable. The question is, why?

    Have a read of this.

  • Not given option to preserve users and network settings

I have a Quicksilver with Leopard installed. I've learned that normally you can't install Leopard on this computer because the processor (733 mhz) is too slow. It works, but I've found that it does indeed run poorly.(The hard drive was transferred from another computer, with Leopard already installed.)
So now I want to install Tiger on it, but when I get to the options installation window and click on the 'Archive and Install' button, the option to also 'preserve users and network settings' remains grayed out. I can't select it. Why so? I want to preserve the settings when I install Tiger.

because tiger installer doesn't know how to deal with leopard files as leopard was released after Tiger. downgraded like this is not recommended by apple.
I want to preserve the settings when I install Tiger.
you can't. however, if you do an archive and install without preserving user settings, your leopard home directory will be preserved in the Previous Systems folder at the top level of the hard drive. after you are done with the install of Tiger you can move what you need to your new home directory. move data files ONLY. don't move any preference files. they most likely won't work.
A better option would be to back up your data to an external and do an erase and install of tiger. you should make a backup anyway in case something goes wrong with the install.

  • Preserve Users and Network Settings

If I do an Archive & Install of my OS with this option off, will it keep my Users folder, or also erase it?
And would it do anything to it if I put the contents of my home folder in a new directory somewhere not in the Users folder?
Because I'd like to reset the network settings, but I'd like to keep my documents. Apple KBase tells that when this option is off, a backup is needed of your Users reason, but I don't see why if the documents are kept. Otherwise, I don't get why it's named "Archive" and Install, as nothing would be archived.

It won't erase it, but it will move it to the Previous System Folder, and because there are various permissions on all the thousands of files in your Users folder, it will be difficult to reset them all correctly. You're better off leaving the option on to Preserver Users and Network Settings.

  • Preserve Users and Network Settings is grayed out

Hi, I was having some issues with my Mac so I decided to perform an archive and install. I currently have Snow Leopard 10.6.4. I popped in the disk but when I got to choosing install options, "Preserve Users and Network Settings" is grayed out. I want to keep all my data as it was and just reinstall Snow Leopard. Does this option appear later on in the installation? Is there a way to go back? It's currently installing Snow Leopard. Please help

Your Home folder may be in the Previous System Folder. Check to see if it's there and intact. Otherwise it's been moved into the new system. You need to make a backup of your Home folder on an external drive.
    1. Boot from your Snow Leopard Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Complete the installation. In the Setup Assistant be sure to use a different username/shortname for the new admin account than you used before.
    5. Upon completion use Migration Assistant in the Utilities folder to migrate your Home folder from the external backup drive.

  • User and group settings are not pushed

    Hello,
I am just setting up a Mavericks environment including Server.app and I am facing a problem that I could not solve up to now.
None of my profile manager settings for users or groups are pushed to the mobile users on my client computer. The device registration worked without problem and also the computer settings are pushed but not the ones for user and group settings.
In my productive mountain lion environment this is no problem.
Is there any was to force the settings update for users as it is possible for computers?
    Any hints are appreciated
    Michael

I too am having this issue.. I had my school environtment running great on 10.8... then we had to upgrade the server to 10.9 to use the new volume purchashing stuff with ipads.. now this 10.9 has broken all my previous macbooks in the school... I can enroll, install certs, and some networks stuff but the main group with all the macbooks and restrictions will not push... it even removed them from the machiens that were working with 10.8... very big issue.. apple needs to help?

  • Changing users and groups settings without unlocking

I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion and have noticed that I can change the settings in preferences for Users and Groups without unlocking.
    Should this be the case?

I tried what you suggested but there is no change.

  • WINDOWS 8.1 - System Tools no longer displaying User and Group Settings after adding a new LOCAL user.

I jumped on my parents computer, which is on a domain.  I added a new local user(with my live.com login) and gave it admin status.  That's when the trouble began.
The main user profile disappeared.  I used the command prompt fix (see other fixes) to add the missing user back into admin.  I logged back in, and it set up the account for the first time (WTF?).  I cannot access any files from the main account
(that I logged into just fine before to get this debacle started.)
When going to Local Computer Management --> System Tools, my users and groups tool is missing.
I ran lusrmgr.msc only to find out that the most current version of Windows 8.1 and this is what it said "This snapin may not be used with this edition of Windows 8.1.  To manage user accounts for this computer, use the User Accounts tool in the
Control Panel."   <---- Awesome!  (that was sarcasm.)
I have spent over two hours in the User Account tool during the course of this problem only to prove that a picture of a computer is more useful that that "tool".
To anyone reading this ticket, the best advice I can offer you (as long as its not a crucial machine) is to back up what you can gain access to, format your hard-drive and reinstall windows and start over again.  I wouldn't recommend reinstalling 8.1,
I would say go back to 7 and wait until 10 comes out.   Windows 8 is the new Vista.  Good luck!

    Hello AhavahOlam,
    I can understand your feelings.
If my understanding is right, after adding a new local user in domain-joined Windows 8.1, you can’t open the local users and groups.
Can you still add account by going to Control Panel\User Accounts and Family Safety\User Accounts\Manage Accounts?
As this computer is domain-based, it is recommended to contact the domain administrator to see if the option is blocked.

  • Word 2007 and volatile user

    Guys,
I did not know where to ask. We use volatile user and I have a problem with word 2007. I can't get word to hold the settings, toolbars etc. I was able to change normal.dotx, and that's fine in regards to the page formating, but I can't make word 2007 to remember its layout. I even copied the profile to the default profile, which worked with word 2003. Please advise. Thank you.

  • List of users and their decimal notation settings in SAP system

Hi all, i'm looking to get my hands on a list of all users in our SAP system and their respective decimal notation settings? I know that these can be mass changed using SU10 however I am unable to determine how to view a list of users and their settings.
    Thanks,
    James

    Hi James,
You can find many useful reports, in SUIM transaction to see user details, but not decimal notation field. I don't know a report to show decimal notations, but as a workaround, in order to see the decimal notation, you can check "USR01-DCPFM" by using "SE16".

  • SharePoint 2013 - Site Settings - Users and permissions - "Access Request and invitations" link missing

I am site collection administrator and have configured the outgoing email in Central administration but "Access Request and invitations" link  is missing, pl advice any additional configurations for this link to show up
I was though able to configure access requests by going to Site Settings->Users and permission and on the ribbon selected "Access Request Settings"
What is the difference in either of the approaches?
    Thanks
    Abhishek

    Hi there,
I noticed this post, and didnt really find an appropriate solution to your issue. I noticed the same issue when dealing with Access Requests. First of all to make sure that the Request feature is enabled, you need to access
Site Settings -> Site Permissions -> Access Request Settings -> Make sure the
'Allow access requests' option is enabled.
The Allow access screen just allows you to enable the feature and also to specify a email address that notifications are sent to. Whereas the 'Access Requests and Invitations' section provides a screen to manage Access Requests and request history.
I noticed then that the Access Requests and Invitations link under 'User and Permissions' didnt actually appear until someone actually requests to join the site. It seems that this is needed to display the screen. Once actioned once, the option stays there.
    Hope it helps

  • Can external users change their language, time zone, and locale settings?

    Hi,
We’re migrating our hosts from WebEx cloud to our on-prem solution right now (CWMS 1.5.1.323.A).
We’ve learned that CWMS 1.5 does not provide an online address book where hosts could customize language, time zone, and locale settings for their external attendees.
Do external users have any chance at all to change their language, time zone and locale settings individually?
    Thank you,
    Helge

    Hi Dejan,
"external users" are those participants, who do not have an LDAP account in our deployment, since they are not intendet to act as hosts: our stakeholders, partners, customers, clients.
It looks, as if these people would stick to the systems' default language / time zone / locale.
We are wondering if there might be a CWMS-component like this:
    https://artcom.webex.com/cmp0307l/webcomponents/widget/preference.do?serviceType=MC&siteurl=artcom&target=Page&backUrl=%2Fmw0307l%2Fmywebex%2Fdefault.do%3Fsiteurl%3Dartcom%26service%3D1
to allow those "extenal" participants to make their adjustments.
    Thank you,
    Helge
