'Volume Adjustment' effect is different between iTunes and iPod

I spent weeks using the 'Volume Adjustment' option on hundreds of quieter albums in my library to consistently match the louder volume levels of newer albums of my library. I wanted playback to be even across the board of my entire library. Some needed a small percentage of increase, some needed the maximum. To my ears' content, I played each adjusted album back in iTunes through powered monitors and studio headphones to make sure each album was just right.
To my horror, after I sync my new library to my newly wiped and restored 5th gen. iPod Classic, the 'Volume Adjustment' effect is multiplied and the playback on anything that was adjusted is ridiculously louder than even the originally loudest album I have. I am also using the same headphones with my iPod that I used to adjust the albums in iTunes on my MacBook Pro.
So pretty much my question is, "what the ****?!"
In iTunes, the 'Volume Adjustment' is great, and playback is perfectly even across the board while I am actually playing back in iTunes. Either I need to go back and change each and every album I adjusted to a much lower adjustment and have to deal with quiet playback in iTunes once again or I can get ear-blasted by my iPod during track changes yet still enjoy the even sound levels in iTunes. I playback in iTunes as frequently as I use my iPod.
There is no grey area and I am sad about this :'( Why is there no consistency? Has this been discussed before or does anyone have a solution?
Thanks for your time,

i don't own a classic but you might want to see if you find a +sound check+ setting on it. you may want to enable sound check in iTunes and the iPod.
additionally, you might want to check out iVolume.

  • Differences in sort order between iTunes and iPod

Can someone explain how the sort order of artists / albums works? It seems that it is different between iTunes and the iPod. In iTunes (7.3.1) I can enter data in the fields for Artist, Album Artist, Sort Artist and Sort Album Artist. When I get the tracks to appear in the order I want in iTunes, it doesn’t seem to transfer across to my iPod. I know there are some differences in how the sort order works in both, but how is it different?

ou must have an older iPod.
I believe the new sort order only works on the new iPods (Nano and Video)

  • Volume difference between iTunes and iPod?

I use MP3Gain so that all my songs are the same volume. Whenever I play music in iTunes everything is the same volume like it should be, but when I listen to my iPod the songs are all their original volumes (before they were equalized) and therefore their volumes are all over the board. Anybody know how I can make the iTunes and iPod volume the same?

Is Sound Check turned on in iTunes? It needs to be on in iTunes and the iPod in order for the iPod to use it.

  • After changing airport name its different in itunes and Ipod (Airplay related)

I'm running OS X 10.6.8 with an up to date 4th gen Ipod and Itunes.
What I did was move a airport base station from my garage into my kitchen. I renamed this airport to Kitchen in my airport utility. Right now it shows up as kitchen in the utility. If I open Itunes this airport is still named garage. If I go to use remote app in my ipod its garage too. I have resarted all devices, but nothing seems to change this.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Mac, and all who were kind enough to respond, I'm using the latest version of iTunes and iPod software, re the songs just few I recently added to my itunes library from elsewhere on my pc, no reason why the should not have synched to my ipod the same as the 3,500 or so that have done so already. Re capitalism, I'm all for it, makes the world go round, but not when it starts acting like something else. Think about this one, you buy a product, it malfunctions, you go back to the shop, the sales person says sorry, you cant talk to me but I'll give you the names of other customers who bought that product, contact them and see if they can help. That aint capitalsism, that's a joke and an abuse of market power.

  • Song volume difference between iTunes and iPod

I changed the volume of a few songs that were too loud or too weak when playing in iTunes. Now the volume is fine when playing in iTunes.
But when I tranfer my songs to my iPod mini, the songs where I boosted the volume are WAY TOO LOUD, and the songs where I lowered the volume are WAY TO SILENT !!
It seems that iPod mini interpretes the volumes in a different scale than on iTunes...
PS. Don't tell me to use the automatic volume control, because it's not fine enough to be useful...

"what if i dont have a mac?"
    Buy one? (sorry, couldn't resist) : )
I have only ever used mp3gain on Windows, and apparently it now supports AAC files also (as a Beta version).
That's the only one I have personal experience of.

  • Updating Top 25 between iTunes and iPod Nano

Is there someway you can update your Top 25 Most Played (smartlist), so it includes the playcounts from iTunes and your iPod Nano. If not, how do u just update your Top 25 list on the Nano, to also update on iTunes?

It still doesnt answer my original question.
I want my library on there (manually so it doesn't update it with itunes). But I want the Top 25 Most Played List updated with my iTunes and Nano playcounts (So if I play a song on iTunes, it will also count on the Top 25 Most Played list on the Nano).
If I try to do the Top 25 list automatically, I can't add my library to it, unless I just make all songs and playlists automatically. But again, I dont want my library on there autmoatically, just in case i do change a song.
    Can somebody help?

  • Recently played list different on iTunes and iPod touch

So I recently got an iPod touch (8GB) and when I sync it to my iTunes (9.0.2.25) every other playlist downloads fine, except for my "Recently Added" and "top 30 most played" playlists. What I mean is the list of songs in those playlists is fine on iTunes, but on the iPod touch it is a different list of songs under those playlist titles.
    Anyone help?

Yeah, it's kind of frustrating. What to do when you start from scratch and the problem still persists?
I've never run into that on a Mac for example. If you reformat and rebuild something it usually handles every situation. Here it's isolated to a couple Smart Playlists, not every Smart Playlist. Unless there's something inherently askew with the OS upgrade and a Most Played & Recently Played list.
I'm going to have to try another User forum to see if it's common or known buggy. I'll keep you posted if I learn anything.

  • Best ways to manually manage songs and other media between iTunes and iPod?

I have a Video iPod (60 GB) and I connect it to two computers, with all my songs being on one of them (my Desktop). Since I connect to two, I have my iPod set to manually manage. My question is, is there any way for me to tell in iTunes what songs I have in iTunes but not on the iPod? If I could see that, it would make manually managing the iPod much easier. If this is available, could someone let me know how? If it is NOT available, are there other strategies people have used to make sure they are aware of what is on the iPod and what is not?
    Thanks in advance,
    - DTC

I appreciate your help but I don't think you've read my message totally because I know that there should be a button where you can set it manually, but I strangely I don't have that kind of button (see: http://www.youruploadservice.be/uploads/iPod.JPG) Is it because I don't have a Mac? Because I'm sure I have the latest version of iTunes. Could you pls help?

  • Smart playlist order different in iTunes and iPod nano

I recently switched to the fifth gen (5G) nano from the first gen (1G) nano, and noticed a strange thing.
I have a smart playlist called "20 most recently played podcasts" where all podcasts with play count >= 1, and the list is limited to 20 most recently played.
I sort it most recently-played last (=from old to recent) so that I could replay them in the same order I previously listened to.
I never had any problem with this setup with my old 1G nano, but the new 5G nano lists most recently played first, reversal of how I set it up in iTunes.
I have another smart playlist called "New podcasts" in which all podcasts with play cound = 0 are collected, sorted by release date, and it works fine (i.e. no play order mangling).
Has anybody seen this kind of problem? How do I correct it?
    My setup:
    WinXP Pro SP2
    iTunes ver 9.0.1.8
    iPod nano 5G ver 1.0.1
    Thanks in advance,

iTunes' system requirement says SP2 or later, so I think I'm OK. Besides I use this PC for work, too, and my company policy doesn't allow me to upgrade to SP3 (most post-SP2 individual security patches are applied).
Anyway, thanks for the pointer. I think I'll try disabling live update for the playlist.

  • HT1386 Play count wont update between iTunes and iPod Nano 7th Gen

I have a iPod nano 7th generation and have the latest version of iTunes on my MacBook Pro... when I play music on my iPod and connect it to my computer, the play count doesn't update on my iTunes... The same can be said for when I play music on my iTunes...the play count wont update on my iPod...  any ideas how to fix this? AK

If you want to make song files from your iTunes library available on your car audio system, and it connects using a USB port, a new iPod nano is a very expensive way to do it.  If that's the only reason for getting the iPod nano, you should return it and get a cheap 8 or 16GB USB flash drive instead, which costs less than $20.  Here's one that barely sticks out of the USB port.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/SanDisk/SDCZ33016G/
You can then leave it connected in the car all the time, except for when you want to update the songs.  An iPod is more fragile (especially screen and battery), and you'll have to always remember to remove it, in case the car overheats or freezes.  It would also be a target for thieves.
For the audio file format, I can't believe any car audio system would ONLY play Window Media files, and not the most common type of audio files, MP3.  Songs purchased from the iTunes Store, and those ripped from music CD (using the default settings), are in AAC format.  It's possible the car system does not play AAC.  So, I would try songs from your iTunes library that are in MP3 format.
You can use iTunes to convert songs from AAC (or any iTunes supported format) to MP3.  So, if MP3 works, and you need details on how to convert audio format using iTunes, please post back.  You cannot convert to WMA format (which is Windows Media audio) using iTunes.

  • Alphabetizing different between iTunes Library & Playlists ?

The alphabetizing different between iTunes Library & Playlists appears to be different, for example, look how The ... bands are listed between the two.
Am I seeing this right? If so, is there a setting to correct it ?
Should they alphabitze the same way so everything matches ?
    Should Apple correct this ?
    thanks,

Cross referencing is almost inherit to any developed program like iTunes.
There are two features to this program that Alphabetize differently.
Should Apple correct this if it is true ?
They're different kinds of data. Songs are tagged with artist names and so on, and iTunes uses that data to organize your music like a library, using library alphabetization — i.e., ignoring articles. Playlists are user-defined categories, for which library alphabetization is less obviously appropriate. They're not cross-referenced — they have no connection to each other unless the user creates one.
If the organization of that data matched, from one function to another, the program could cross reference (and list them) with no contradiction.
Maybe it's why playlists slow down the music library?
Having hundreds of playlists will slow down iTunes because iTunes frequently needs to "look through" your list of playlists — when creating smart playlists, for instance, or when you control-click on a song and see "Show in Playlist" in the contextual menu. A couple dozen playlists won't slow things down at all, but iTunes isn't really designed to work well with hundreds. It really has nothing to do with your playlists not matching your tags; the two kinds of data are entirely separate within iTunes.

  • Is it possible to transfer music between iPhones and iPods with out using iTunes

Is it possible to transfer music between iPhones and iPods with out using iTunes

Nope.  Both require iTunes on a computer to sync music from.
Unless the iPod is an iPod Touch and the music was bought from iTunes.  In which case the Touch can simply go to the iTunes App, under Purchased  and download the purchased songs for free.

  • Synching calendars between itunes and iphone 5 no longer works.

Syncing calendars between itunes and iphone 5 no longer works.  I do not get any errors, however calendar items are not updated.
I am syncing via USB on a Windows 8 computer.  It worked a couple of weeks ago.  Since then itunes has had its weekly update, my IOS may have been updated, and I've run a malware removal program on my computer. I curently have iTunes 11.1.3.8  and iOS 7.0.4.  I read the posts and verified ICloud was turned off.
I really need to be able to sync my computer and iphone again.  Any suggestions?

So you'll either need to attempt further repair yourself or take the iPhone to some unauthorized repair shop, pay them, and hope they fix it correctly.
The iPhone 5 has no Touch ID, and an iPhone 5S should still be under warranty, so I'm puzzled as to what you really have and were attempting. If you do have a 5S, why you didn't get it serviced under warranty?
    Regards.
