Volume Amplifier

I searched around for posts on amplify volume on a macbook, and there are some old posts but no one has been able to answer it that I found. Here is the problem:
The volume on my macbook is too low. When I have the volume turned all the way up, I can barely hear the sound if there is any background noise (street noise (I live in NYC), a fan, air conditioner, etc.). This is true in itunes, dvd player, and sound and video clips from the web. I've turned up the volume controls I know of, on the software player and on the mac.
This is not a problem when I boot to windows xp in boot camp. There, I turn the volume to maybe 80-90 percent and I can hear ok. This is why I do not think it is a hardware issue - the speakers can obviously go higher because they do so in windows.
I wanted to repost this to see if anyone has a suggestion. Is there a patch, or hack, or plug in, or firmware file, or something I can do to boost the sound volume? Thanks all.

  • Creative 6.1 Inspire 6700 - Problem with the volume (amplifier unit / plate)

    Hello everybody!
I have bought a Creative Inspire 6.1 6700 on January of 2004 and yesterday I found out that the amplifier unit (which is on the back side of the sub) is malfunctioning.
Actually when I try to turn on the volume from the wired remote control the sound is heavily distorted and the green led is very dim (not bright like it used to be).
The power adapter is good, the fuse inside the amplifier plate is good, so it must be something within the amplifier unit / plate.
Can anyone throw some light into this? Do you know if I can buy from somewhere, just the amplifier plate?
Thank you for your time and effort!

Just look at the plate from the bottom side. Probably you will see some spot or region of yellow color (burnt out).

    Hi,
Sorry i just returned back to archlinux after a while. Thanks for your input!:)
My sound card is a conexant, and alsa uses the hda-intel module.
I did as you said. It's usable for now, with headphones, but with bigger speakers its kind of low.
I also came to know about the hspda plugin, and audacious has the stereo volume amplifier plugin using hspda. The problem is, if i use the plugin, it does not get saved, so i have to switch it on again the next time i start audacious.
    Thanks!

    Hi all,
I've noticed that the Alsa volume is too low compared to ubuntu 9.10 and Windows. Even at max slider, the volume is half of that of max of windows. The pcm is set to the max setting that works without distorting the sound.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!:)

maybe the volume was too low?
or since LOGITECH Z506 5.1 has own volume amplifier, maybe was changed?
Do you have such issues with different speakers set?
Do you use latest Realtek driver from realtek.com?

Apple does not repair devices beyond replacing the screen on some models or a battery replacement.  They replace the ENTIRE device.
For the Out of Warranty replacement cost, you could have gotten a fully functional replacement device.  Instead you chose to spend less to get only the screen replaced and continue to live with additional issues.
Apple will not touch the device now.  They will know that it was opened elsewhere and that the replacement screen is not original.

  • Remote...How can you set the your amplifier to be the default volume?

Does anyone know how to set your amp to be the default volume control without have to switch between devices to change the volume?
Can you have 2 devices on the screen at the same time. Like cable box and the amp?
i've had other sony remotes that would do it.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I think sony should keep working on improving universal remote app.
here's little sugestion from me allow sort off split screen option on 1 side one remote and on another side another remote with seperate scrolling perhaps.
or tiny area dedicated to just program and volume buttons that can switch while having main remote on having tiny volume remote in tiny area on screen from any remote you choose like amplifier.
anyway maybe this is already possible anyway.
using main remote app and mini remote app at same time.
having tv remote as normal remote and small mini app remote having amp controls aka volume
Just tested works fine can even hit both power buttons at same time will power on my tv and amp at same time no problem.

  • Using the clip volume envelope to amplify rather than attenuate

    Hi everyone,
I was trying to edit the volume envelope of a clip in Multitrack View, and I realised that the volume envelope really only allows you to *attenuate* the volume of a clip throughout its duration, not *amplify* it. In other words, you can only add points on the envelope that are *beneath* the +0dB line, thus decreasing the volume by so-many dB.
Is there a way to also vary to volume of a clip in the other direction, that is - to amplify it, in the Multitrack View?
    Many thanks for any suggestions!

Presumably because that is the limit set by Adobe for that operation. If you need more than that then you probably need to permanently increase the level of the file in Edit View.
There seems to be, however, a workaround. If, having rescaled the clip envelope to maximum, you Right click and open Clip Properties you will see that Audition has set the Clip Volume to the max of +15dB. If you reset the fader level to 0 you can then go and rescale the Envelopes a second time. This may allow you to get the gain you require. But, as mentioned above, if your levels are that low in the first place I would raise the level of the file permanently in Edit View.

  • Amplifier cutting out at higher volumes

I have a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero and I installed a Pioneer DEH-3200UB head unit which is connected to a Pioneer GM-5500T 820W amplifier which runs 2 12" Pioneer TS-W303R sub-woofers; all of which is connected by 6 gauge Scosche 1200W amplifier wiring kit.  I have had them installed in my car for about 10 months now.  For the first 8 or 9 months I had no issues with the system:  the bass hit hard at whatever level I had it at.  Last month I took my subs out and replaced the enclosure with a plexiglass enclosed one and now the amp/bass cuts out around volume level 30 (It goes up to 62), and it used to work at whatever volume I had it.
I think I've given all details needed, but feel free to ask for any other specifications.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That is a tough one to pinpoint without hands on testing.
Is the power shutting off on the amp?  Is the protection light on the amp coming on?  Does the amp stay on without the protect light coming on, but the subs just stop?
    Let's see:
The TS-W303R is rated at 250W RMS each and is 4ohm SVC
The GM-5500T is rated to put out 125W RMS per channel @ 4ohm
If all the settings are exactly the same and the problem started as soon as you swapped the enclosure, I would first check the wiring to make sure everything is as it should be.
Is the amp bridged to those two subs or are you running each sub on its own channel?  If it is bridged to the subs, then depending on how it is wired it might be running at 2ohms which would be too low for the amp and possibly has damaged it.  If each sub is on its own channel, then it is possible that the amp is trying to put out more than it can and is struggling or that the subs need more than it can give.  It is possible that the subs being designed for higher power than that amp is capable of could have caused distortion which may have damaged the voice coils on the subs themselves.

  • K8N Neo4 SLI Soundblaster. Low volume. Is amplifier required?

Despite setting volume controls to max, I'm only getting a faint volume from two very cheap lite desktop speakers.  These work fine with my old Pentium 400 system with integrated Crystal sound.
    Headphones plugged in work fine.
I've installed the latest Soundblaster drivers, plugged the speakers correctly into the line out hole.  I've also tried plugging into the subwoofer and rear speaker bank of holes & tried in the mixer to set speakers to all the different settings 2.1, 7.1 etc.
Does Soundblaster require an amplifier to get sound out of even tiny little desktop speakers?
    Anyone with a similar problem?
    Regards, Ron

    ccve,
I do not have Win64 so what i say may not apply,
1- Was the latest SB driver you put in a WIN 32 or WIN 64 version?
2- Have you installed any other SB utilities with it? If so are those WIN 64 versions?
3- This is how I do a sound troubleshoot in Win32 could also apply to WIN64:
    a. goto control panel/sound and audio devices/volume tab - insure  that device volume slider is up and mute not selected
    b. Then click on Advanced button to open play control - confirm balnce. volume, and no mute for all device in use.
    c. Click on advanced button below play control to open advanced controls for play control - insure that bass & treble are set to mid-range and that digital output option is not thicked.[/b]
    d. Close last two windows and goto Speaker settings on youre initial volume tab - click on speaker volume and insure that both left and right volume controls are all the way up.
    e. click on advanced tab abd then select lowest mono and stereo speakers available in turns until you get one that work or exhaust all options. (use desltop speakers first) Also confirm your speakers as mono or stereo.
    4. If above fails, borrow & try more modern speakers to confirm your sound operation.
    Good luck,

  • How do I get more volume when watching a movie and can I use headphones?

How do I get more volume when watching a movie? And can I also use headphones?

Many governments now limit how loud headphones can go. Europe has been plagued with this for many years. Separate amplifiers are available.
I believe volumes should be kept at reasonable levels to avoid hearing loss, but it's not the governments job to protect me.
I prefer Beyerdynamic over Bose Headphones. (They spend a lot less money on advertising.)

  • How do I stop Flash from changing sound volume?

I've got a sound in WAV format embedded in a FLA file which I intend to export into a SWC and instanciate in code.
The sound is too loud! So I made it quieter by running "amplify" in Audition (I also tried Audacity) and setting it to something like -10db.
The new sound is much quieter when I play it in Audition or windows media player, but when I embed it in a FLA and play it in the little previewer, it's as loud as the original. Same goes when I export it to the SWC. I thought I was going mad for awhile until I realized Flash must automatically normalize all sounds to a particular volume. But I can't find any references to this or any setting that stops it. Is this new in CC? Is it a bug?
I thought I remember "Use Original Settings" being one of the choices for compression in CS6 but it seems to be gone. File size isn't an issue in this case, so is there some way to ask Flash not to mess with my wav files at all?
Here are my two sounds and a fla showing them off:
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/11786661/flash_normalizing_sound.zip

Thanks for verifying that I'm not losing my mind Rob. I've reported the bug. This is only a test sound, so hopefully my sound engineer can fix the issue before production. If not I can build the swc using CS6, or as a final resort set the volume in the code.
I have other quiet sounds that don't get mangled by Flash. As a test I opened those working sounds and this broken one in Audition and normalized them all to 0db. The working sounds seemed unchanged, but the broken one became loud. I don't understand why this is, but I assume Flash CC is doing something similar.

  • Why is the sound quality and volume in itunes so different than when I use other media players

This is an issue which has been vexing me for some time. I've researched it all over the web and have not found a worthwhile answer. Some other posts on these forums have asked similar questions without successful answers. But, none the less, I will try...
I have spent a lot of time over the last two years trying to get my itunes library organized as well as getting good digitized versions from my vinyl records as well as CDs. I was pleased with my results and then I added the songs to itunes. I could not believe how inconsistent the sound quality was. Invariably the volume is always lower. [Please do not post a reply such as: Check the volume controls in itunes proper as well as in itunes preferences (i.e., Sound Check, Sound Enhancer) & the Volume Adjustment in the Information pane under Options for particular songs.] I tried all of those means of adjusting volume. They do NOT work.
There is something more insidious at work in itunes which prevent good sound reproduction. I will give an example. I have played Frankie Valle and the Four Season's song "C'Mon Marianne" on the OS X system sound (i.e. clicking the play button to the song file when selected on the desktop or wherever it resides) as well as in Amadeus Pro. The song sounds great. When I play it when it's in the itunes' library the first part of the song is too lound and then when Frankie Valle starts singing his voice is at a significantly reduced volume.
I have edited the foregoing song in Amadeus Pro to a very high volume (i.e., Effects>Amplify), reloaded it into itunes and it still does not inprove the volume of Frankie's voice in the song, even though the rest of the song is somewhat louder. I have played with the Equalizer in itunes to no effect. It just does not work.
Now, I would glading move away from itunes and use another media player. However, I have other Apple devices through which I listen to music. And the only way I know of to listen,e.g., on the iphone is through itunes.
The other related problem with itune, or should I say iCloud, is icloud match. The icloud Match has taken great sounding music and given me back music of an inferior quality, even though it is a Matched AAC format.
I'm am sorry if I am a little peeved about this issue. If anyone has some suggestions or input to a solution, I will be eternally grateful. Thanks a bunch.

    fbuerg,
You are welcome. Glad my good fortune was helpful to you.

  • 55TL515U no longer supports amplifier output from Net TV apps

I have been happy with my 55TL515U for the 2 years or so I've had it but this latest episode has me very frustrated.
This is the setup that has been working flawlessly for me:
HDMI 1 is connected to my Yamaha RX-371 receiver as its HDMI output. I also have a Sony BluRay player and satellite receiver hooked up via HDMI, and I can switch between them using the Yamaha remote.
Until just a few days ago, I could also use the Toshiba apps like Pandora and Vudu and my sound on the ARC (audio return channel) was handled correctly by the receiver.
I use HDMI-CEC for everything, and sometimes (usually) I can use the TV remote to set the volume on the amplifier. Now the Toshiba TV remote only controls the TV speaker volume. Whenever I go to the Toshiba TV menu, the HDMI-CEC menu shows that the audio preference is TV speakers. I change it back to Amplifier and it works for everything but the Toshiba Net TV apps (Pandora, Vudu, etc).
If I use the Quick menu, the sound output shows TV speaker and is greyed out.
After exiting from the Net TV app, I go to the full menu and I can change the HDMI-CEC sound output preference from TV speakers back to Amplifier until the next time I try to go to Net TV apps.
I've had this happen before and I could reset by powering down and unplugging the TV, waiting 10 minutes, then plugging it back in again. Now this doesn't seem to be working and I'm getting very frustrated. Typically the wife starts pressing buttons when powering it on when it takes too long.
I am using the auto standby on, auto power on, so basically I normally power on one of the connected devices and the TV and amplifier will power up, or I power down the TV and it powers down the amplifier.
Note that this has all worked reliably for about 2 years apart from the occasional need to unplug.
I'm about to go through the manual to see where the magic wait values are described to see if I can glean some special incantations that will make this work.
I did a firmware upgrade about 2 months ago and it was definitely working after that - this just stopped working a few days ago.
    Any ideas?

    What TVs have HULU?
WHY does Toshiba website at http://us.toshiba.com/tv/research-center/technology-guides/internet-tv-apps say "Watch shows and videos on Vudu® and Hulu™." if there is NO HULU????
This statement on Toshiba site has been up for MONTHS.
I think it is highly deceptive and I know Costco will take this TV back - which is what I'm going to do if there is no straight answer about Hulu.
I want Hulu, and don't want this TV if it won't do it.
