Volume and brightness limits

ive recently replaced a ipod nano, and im trying to replicate my settings for it
the two outstanding items on my checklist would be the volume limit and the brightness
the issue with the brightness would be that 0% brightness is still too bright for my tastes on the ipod classic, and turning off the back light would make it far too dark; is there a way to alter the brightness in between 0% and no back light?
the other issue with the volume limit is that although i can reach an appropriate limit with the max volume, the minimum volume is a bit too loud, and i require it to be a bit lower for when it's attached to certain speakers; so is there a way to adjust the minimum volume on the ipod classic as well?

hm i see...
i suppose therefor to solve this, the only remaining option would be to replace my firmware on the ipod(minor changes) so that the minimum volume is mute and so that the minimum brightness is no backlight.
my only issue with this is that there may be a technical reason for why the backlight cant go so low anymore, rather than an arbitrary limit, but only time will tell i suppose

How do I remove the on-screen volume and brightness displays?

The on screen displays for volume and brightness controls on my ProBook 455 really lag behind pressing the buttons and aren't terribly helpful anyway. Can I remove them? I've seen people ask in the past and they are told about something called an "HP On Screen Display" or a "MediaSmart Menu." But my notebook doesn't have either. Does someone know another name for the thing I need to remove in order to get rid of this useless display?

Volume and Brightness Keys

I have problems using the volume and brightness keys on my keyboard. I've been using these shortcuts on my keyboards without pressing fn before. Nonetheless, all these keys didn't work all of a sudden, even if I try to press fn+f1/f2/f10/f11/f12.
I tried to restore the window system back to some other days and those keys work out fine. I just want to fix this problem. I want to only have to press f11 to change the volume just like the OS system does!
Please help It's so inconvenient!!!

Thanks for your reply. It is true that the diamond icon does not run upon startup anymore. It used to run automatically whenever I start my window. I tried to run MSCONFIG but it shows that the keybrdmanage.exe is running.
Nonetheless, I tried to go RUN and choose the bootcamp file and under that file there is a keyboardmanger.exe file and once I click those keys work fine again. Is there a way to auto run bootcamp by itself so that I don't have to run all these steps again? I tried to choose always show the bootcamp icon in the task bar but unfortunately it doesnt work. =[
Can you please tell me what to do?

Green light for volume and brightness

Hi,
I have a T-61. I just found out that the green light that shows up in the lower center of my moniter for volume and brightness has disappeared. Could someone help me to have the green light back on again?

How to get xfce-notifyd to display Thinkpad T40 volume and brightness

I'm running XFCE 4.8 on a Thinkpad T40. The volume and brightness buttons are wired directly to the hardware, and I can also view the current level of the volume and brightness in /proc/acpi/ibm/.
cat /proc/acpi/ibm/volume returns something like:
level: 1
mute: off
and cat /proc/acpi/ibm/britghtness has something like:
level: 7
commands: up, down
commands: level <level> (<level> is 0-7)
The "level" numbers change appropriately. In XFCE I know that notifications are working properly by testing it via the Settings panel and doing a notify-send test. How do I link the notifications to the volume and brightness to get their respective notifications to appear?

OK, here's how the volume bar works in all Media Center (2004-2005) and how to change it :
Create a .txt file with the following :
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Media Center\VolumeDisplay]
"Disable"=dword:00000000
"FontSize"=dword:00000024
"Color"=dword:00ffffff
"Timeout"=dword:000003e8
Don't include the --------
Now here are what the settings do:
Disable: (enable or disable the volume bar)
- 00000000 (bar is shown)
- 00000001 (bar is hidden)
FontSize: (decide the font sized used to display the word "volume")
- 00000024 is font size 36 (it's hexadecimal value), for exemple 00000014 is fontsize 20, etc..
Color: (the color of the control bar and of the word "volume")
00ffffff corresponds to white, 00000000 corresponds to black. also hexadecimal.
If you want an easy way to find out, just check the color you want in HTML:
If HTML is #00AAFF for exemple, then you need to put value 00FFAA00, or for HTML #556677, the value will be 00776655
Timeout: (it represent the duration of displaying the volume bar)
000003e8 corrsponds to 1000 ms = 1 seconde. For exemple, 1,5 second is 000005dc, or 2 second is 000007d0
So replace accordingly the above with the value that you like, save as "bar.reg" then double click on it and reboot the PC!
Enjoy, it was quite a hassle to find those keys because they don't exist initially! (and because for each try, I must reboot.. :/ )

Volume and brightness buttons don't work anymore

I did a complete restore from factory DVD and since then the volume and brightness buttons don't work anymore. I have an All-in-One AE1900. Anybody can help me fix this problem? Since I do not have the original keyboard anymore, I can't use the hot key combination to do it. Thanks for your help.

I've had this same problem, but when I am using "Parallels" to run windows programs on my new Macbook Air, with an external Mac LED Cinema Display, the brightness keys on the external apple keyboard do not work. Sound seems to work fine. They work fine in Mac mode.
Any solutions?

Can I disable the yellow volume and brightness bars that pop up when using the function keys?

I upgraded to windows 8 and it has volume and brightness meters that pop up automatically, and they are nicer looking than the big yellow lenovo ones. Plus having 2 bars is redundant. How can I disable the lenovo ones so I can just have the windows 8 ones? I had just the windows 8 ones until the lenovo driver package installed itself automatically.

AFAIK the Indicator for Brightness and volume are Installed via Lenovo Energy Management Software.
Try uninstalling the sOftware from (Control Panel / Uninstall a program)
And it should disable it.

So I was installing Lenovo Drivers on my laptop after I nuked the hard drive and to repartition. However, somehow, I have TWO volume and brightness controls. Any ideas anyone?

I saw your other post over here . Is your audio working properly now with the exception of having two volume controls?
Seeing as how the hotkeys are incorporated into Energy Management, could it be that there are two versions of Energy Management installed? The on screen displays look like an older version and a new version.

Volume and brightness keys not working with new keyboard on imac

I just purchased a new wired keyboard for imac and brightness and volume control keys not working . i have tried adjusting keyboard settings. I have software version 10.5.8. Do I need to upgrade software. Thank you for any help.

Do you have "Automatically Adjust Brightness" check box ticked in System Preferences > Displays > Display ? If so, you can't manually adjust brightness.

Volume and brightness icons dont show up

My computer is a Pavilion g6 notebook. Recently I just realized that I cant see the volume and the brightness icons when I push the volume or the brightness up or down. I checked on the device manager but there is no error. I ran BIOS and windows updates. Nothing changed. I check the graphics card status and everything seems to be correct here. I still got this issue and I dont know how to solve it. I can deal with that but you know it is also important to me to have a fully-working notebook. So please tell me what should I do to solve it ?

My Volume and brightness keyboard buttons are not working what Shoud i Do ?

I have Downloaded Boot camp 4.0 for windows 7 in My Mac Book Pro MD103LL/A and all of it is working fine except the Keyboard Volume Up/Down and Brightness adjustment Buttons .
What to do ?? how can i make them work.. I have even Pressed that "fn" key like (fn + f1) and so but not working. Whats missing here so far ?

Beats Audio Software and On Screen Volume and Brightness Icons Not Showing

I have a HP Envy 6 Ultrabook 6-1010ea, It had to have a new hard drive due to hardware failure and now I have it back I can't find the beats audio symbol and the associated software, also the on screen displays of the volume control and broightness icons don't appear anymore, when I download certain drivers to solve the issues each one doesn't see, to work with the other, I can get sound back on the internet OR the icons back.

Volume and Brightness Not Displaying when Changed

Hey all, I've recently formatted my laptop, a HP Pavilion DV5-2040ca, and have noticed that (even after installing the drivers), it doesn't display the current volume/brightness when it is changed via the hotkeys bound to the F-Keys. I was wondering which driver will enable this feature on my laptop, as it would be great to have.

For your notebook, the on screen display for volume/brightness is provided by HP MediaSmart SmartMenu - you can download this from the link below.
Note: You should have at least 1 other MediaSmart software installed ( doesn't matter which ) before installing this.

When the installation has completed, restart the notebook.

MBP early 2007 model having issues with volume and brightness control keys (f1-f9)

My MBP, early 2007 (came with tiger 10.4 in the box) and now running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 is having some weird problems with its f1-f9 keys.
For about 2 weeks now I have noticed that I cannot change the brightness and volume (especially) using these keys.
The layout of the keys on my MBP are as attached:
I tried to google the problem and tried a few diy fix-its, however nothing seems to work... and there seems to be no clear answer either. One day, during these two weeks it suddenly worked for about 2 minutes then stopped again and hasn't worked since.
Anyone experienced any similar problems? or have any idea what I can do to fix it?
As a last resort, I would eventually get a wireless keyboard to use with the MBP.
