Volume as install disk for Guest Domain and Live Upgrade

Hi Folks,
I am new to LDOMs and have some questions - any pointers, examples would be much appreciated:
(1) With support for volumes to be used as whole disks added in LDOM release 1.0.3, can we export a whole LUN under either VERITAS DMP or mpxio control to guest domain and install Solaris on it ? Any gotchas or special config required to do this ?
(2) Can Solaris Live Upgrade be used with Guest LDOMs ? or is this ability limited to Control Domains ?
Thanks

The answer to your #1 question is YES.
Here's my mpxio enabled device.

create the virtual disk using slice 2
ldm add-vdsdev /dev/dsk/c4t4849544143484920373730313036373530303136d0s2 77bootdisk@primary-vds01
add the virtual disk to the guest domain
ldm add-vdisk apps bootdisk@primary-vds01 ldom1
the virtual disk will be imprted as c0d0 which is the whole lun itself.
bind, start ldom 1 and install OS (i used jumpstart) and it partitioned the boot disk c0d0 as / 15GB, swap the remaining space (10GB)
when you run format, print command on both guest and primary domain on this disk you'll see the same slice/size information

I havent used DMP but HDLM (Hitachi Dynamic link manager) seems not supported by ldom as i cannot make it work :(
I have no answer on your next question unfortunately.

Pagemaker is ancient, obsolete and unsupported. It was discontinued over 10 years ago. (Though why it is still sold is a mystery.)
If you want to run PageMaker, your best bet is to use a Win2K or WinXP PC.
Otherwise move to Indesign or look at Serif's PagePlus or Scribus.

  • Forgot Password Only have install disks for 10.4 and disk #2 for 10.5

    Hello,
I was playing around on my macbook last night and changed my password to a password that i always use for just about everything and when i changed it worked because i had to logout cause something froze and safari was really messed up so when i logged in the new password worked but a few minutes later i was trying out some really old app from like 10.2 or something like that and it froze everything except finder so i tried to force quit and that wasn't working so i logged out and that froze too. So then i had to hold the power button down to shut it down and after i got it back up and running i tired to login with the new password i made earlier and it rejected it. I tried my old password and some really old passwords i tried caps and some of the words capital and it still didn't work. So then i was reading some other forms of people that forgot their password and stuff like that and most of them said to boot up with the install disk so i did and i did the password reset utility and it still didn't work. It said this volume can not be found or something like that. Then i realized that i had the disks from 10.4.0 and I tried to find my 10.5.0 ones and i only found disk #2 and for some reason it wasn't working when i tried to do it so then i was reading more forms about booting up in single user mode my doing Apple-S and i typed in the codes and they didn't work cause they were for 10.4.x and i heard they changed something like that in the security update that i installed so i have a big problem. I either need some hacked way of doing it or a new updated code. I will try to find my other disk and try to do it again but i know where it is its all the way up in canada at a place i own there . If there is a new code that would be Great. Or if there is some way i can download Mac OSX and burn it onto a CD or DVD because i am on the windows vista side of my mac now typing this. If anyone can't figure this out i will soon call apple. Thanks for helping. Bye
    Danny

    G'day Danny.
Single User Mode will work in Leopard, unless the MacBook has been properly secured, or corrupted in a more fundamental way. Were the instructions from a credible source? I am reluctant to post the instructions here, as they are a powerful weapon in the hands of the unscrupulous.
I am confused about one thing: the Leopard retail distribution usually comes on one DVD. The only time people get two disks (AFAIK) is the System Restore disks that come with a computer that ships with Leopard. From the sound of things, yours shipped with Tiger.
I don't recommend downloading OS X. You never know what you might be getting!

My 2011 MBP has begun running slow with frequent 'spinning beach ball' events. I'm running Yosemite and wondered if I should of use the original install disk for a maintenance reinstall. I presume I'd have to download Yosemite again, though I'd be happy just using Snow Leopard again too.
    Thanks for the help.

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

  • Where can I download the install disk for powerbook G4

I recently replaced my hardrive because mine stopped working. Now I have found that somewhere along the line over the past 4-5 years I've lost the install disks for my powerbook. I was wondering how I could get my laptop back up and running by maybe downloading software from somewhere? I'm not super savy on computers, but I was told that I would be able to download the software from a site and then be able to start up and install the operating system from my imac. Is this correct, and if yes then how?
    Much appreciated

  • Install disk for iMac won't install

I have a Mid-2011 iMac which I'm prepping for resale.  It had been upgraded to Lion.  But, I believe, no further.  I cleared the drive and wanted to reinstall the OS and apps.  Installing from the DVD got me the grey screen problem.  So, I booted into Snow Leopard (the OS it shipped with) from an external drive.  Then I tried to install the OS from the DVD which came with the machine.  I got the message:
mac os x snow leopard cannot be installed on this computer
How is that possible?  It was the install disk for this computer.  What can I do?
I tried just installing Lion.  That went fine.  But, I couldn't install the apps which came with the machine.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

The licensing issues got real murky (aka complicated) after they went to digital download only as anything obtained at the app store is not transferable and tied to the original Apple ID. So, the system throws up all sorts of ..... If Pages et al was bundled, then no, I don't think it would install as that is filed under the "non-transferable" category I believe. If you had a retail iWork/iLife disk, you should be able to install them (but must include the disks when selling). You may have the wrong disks as well: mine came with 10.6.4 (2010) and so I can't use the retail version as that is 10.6.3. I'll post a screenshot at the end of build/OS numbers.
I did a fair amount of testing on a 2010 iMac (purchased refurb in 2012) with Lion installed and the machine specific SL disks with it. I initially wiped the drive and reinstalled Snow Leopard. I updated the firmware at some point to allow recovery and, from what I've read, that is what is preventing you from being able to reinstall with the SL disk. I know I have the right disks because they worked initially, but I can no longer use them to boot from. So, I rely on bootable clones (which I prefer anyway).

  • Install disk for multiple computers

    Hi,
My wife just got a new mac book pro today with the Leopard install disk.
I have a mac book pro with Tiger on it. Can I use her disk to install Leopard on my computer, or do I need to buy a separate Leopard install disk for me?
    Thanks!

You need to purchase Leopard. Not only are you not legally allowed to use her disk to install on your system it may not work and could mess your system up
Only Family Packs are authorized to install on multiple computers

  • Install Disk for Snow Leopard will not boot on an iMac 27in

My Install Disk for Snow Leopard will not boot on my iMac 27in. The Apple Logo is the only thing the user will see. The current OS on the system is 10.6.6. Upon placing the Snow Leopard DVD in the system, the DVD players spins for a few seconds and displays the Apple Logo. Nothing happens after 20 minutes.

Yes, it is ridiculous how it is impossible to install Snow Leopard. I have two Snow Leopard DVDs: one that I purchased for a Macbook soon after it's release (10.6.0), and one that came with my iMac (10.6.4). Both of these boot up my Macbook (running 10.6.7) just fine. My SL 10.6.0 DVD mounts onto my iMac (Lion 10.7.0), but you cannot run the install. I attempted to boot from this DVD and got the infinite white screen and Apple logo, as some have reported above. The other SL 10.6.4 DVD will not even mount in Lion, and will not even show up as a bootable drive when I attempt to select it after holding alt/option on reboot.
I created a bootable external drive from SL 10.6.0, attempted boot, same infinite white screen/apple logo.
I created a bootable external drive from SL 10.6.4 on my macbook. I attempted to boot from this drive, and got the white screen of death, except that this time I actually got the loading symbol underneath the Apple logo. After about a minute of attempting to boot, the Apple logo changed to a circle with a diagonal line through it (the "NO!" sign).
I took my iMac to the genius bar. They inserted SL 10.6.0, which would not boot. Then they determined that my computer had to run 10.6.4 and later. So, they restored an image of SL 10.6.4 onto my partition (not an install from an image, but an image of SL already installed). Hurray! Snow Leopard was successfully shoved onto my iMac!
I then deleted a third partition on my hard drive I did not need anymore, which somehow screwed up my SL partition (even though it said "Will not erase partition SL or Macintosh HD). Now I am back at square one, and I guess I need to take my flippin iMac back to Apple for them to do what I should be able to do.
I like Apple, but sheesh do I hate Lion right now.

  • How can I make an install disk for iTunes?

I need to update iTunes but I cannot get the download to complete. The connection has been confirmed as stable so it doesn't appear to be a system issue. If I make an install disk for the current version of iTunes on another PC, I should be able to install it. The download doesn't give options to save to a disk. How should I go about this?

The download doesn't give options to save to a disk
Go to the following webpage and click the "Download" button, and then click the "Save" button:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
... once the iTunesSetup.exe (installer) file has downloaded, then copy the iTunesSetup.exe file across to your CD (or even a large-enough thumb drive or something similar). Copy the iTunesSetup to your PC from the CD or thumb, and start the install by doubleclicking on the file.

  • Is there any way to check a software install disk for damage?

Is there any way I can check a DVD software install disk for damage?

Yes the disk, at least the main one, is O.K. I guess what I'm trying to determine here is whether or not my Logic Pro Studio install disks are corrupted in any way because, on my system Logic behaves in quite a glitchy manner, something that other Logic users (at least on the Logic Forums) are not experincing. I've narrowed it down to a software issue but I've yet to detemine if this is an OS problem, a Logic problem or something else. What mitigates against the idea that this is an OS problem is that anything other than Audio programs on my system runs fine. But audio programs, particularly Logic, are having problems. A reinstallation of Logic solved nothing which is why I suspected that there may be something wrong with the program install disks. But the program does install and it does 95% of what its supposed to do. The disks are clean and have no scratches.

I have got hold of new and unused install disks for a MacBook. Its OSX Tiger 10.4.6. Although all the new Macs are now Intel Duo, will this still be able to be installed on my iBook G4 512Mb?
Or will it only work on a Mac with an Intel Duo processor?
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   512Mb

The story has now changed somewhat. Copied from your original post in this thread.
I have got hold of new and unused install disks for a MacBook. Its OSX Tiger 10.4.6. Although all the new Macs are now Intel Duo, will this still be able to be installed on my iBook G4 512Mb?
Although this 10.4.6 install package for an iBook may work on your iBook, usually the build must be identical also.
A link I provided in one of my previous posts in this thread.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25517
This install package may install OK on your iBook but if the build is not identical, it may not work correctly after the fact.
Since the bods at the Apple Store you visited said this makes no difference - this iBook 10.4.6 install package you acquired will work on ANY non-Intel Mac, what are you worried about? Use it but to be on the safe side, I would first get the bods at this Apple Store to provide you a free exchange for a Tiger retail install install package if your install package doesn't work.
