Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list.  Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

how do i stop my programs from automatically popping up when i turn on the computer?

When you log out or shut down, there will be a checkbox that asks you if you want to reopen windows when you log in. Just uncheck this box. If that isn't it, you may have login items turned on. Go to System Preferences>Users and Groups and then under your name click the Login Itens tab. Make sure nothing is there.
If you want to stop windows from restoring when you open applications (so for example when you open Safari it doesn't open the 50 tab page you just had open when you quit) go to SystemPreferences>General and then hit the checkbox that says Close windows when quitting an application.

In Windows 7, how to make Firefox start automatically when I turn on the computer. Note, I am asking how to do this with Windows 7, not xp, not vista.

You need to place a shortcut to open Firefox in the Start > Programs > Startup folder.<br />
That is basically the same in all Windows versions.

  • Please a simple problem but I don't know how to solve it. After installing 16 gb of ram all is good but when I turn on the computer it is a window signaling that all is correct. How is possible to delete once and for all that window? Thank you

Well then maybe you could take a screenshot because the appearance of such a window is news to me.
Also post your OS X version and what model Mac you have. The more detail, the better. Thanks.
To take a screenshot hold ⌘ Shift 4 to create a selection crosshair. Click and hold while you drag the crosshair over the area you wish to capture and then release the mouse or trackpad. You will hear a "camera shutter" sound. This will deposit a screenshot on your Desktop.
If you can't find it on your Desktop look in your Documents or Downloads folder.
When you post your response, click the "camera" icon above the text field:
This will display a dialog box which enables you to choose the screenshot file (remember it's on your Desktop) and click the Insert Image button.
⌘ Shift 4 and then pressing the space bar captures the frontmost window.
⌘ Shift 3 captures the entire screen.
Drag the screenshot to the Trash after you post your reply.

Hold down the alt key immediately after power-up, select which OS you want to boot, holding ctrl when you select an OS makes it the default.

    Hello pepi95,

If you just bought the nano, why not bring it back for a replacement or your money back? It's definitely a defective iPod. Not much else for options here. Sorry.

  • HT1436 I have two hard drives on my G5(2004). How do I get to choose which hard drive is the start up disk when I turn on the computer? Is it the shift key I hold down?

I have two hard drives on my G5(2004). How do I get to choose which hard drive is the start up disk when I turn on the computer? Is it the shift key I hold down?

depending on which model of G5 and  OS installed will depend on whether a key command will work
    alt   at start up may  work, if it does not, use the start up disc setting in;
apple menu > system preferences > system  > start up disc
of course, the second drive must have a compatible OS installed for it to be able to boot.

  • How can I stop itunes from starting when I turn on the computer?

I'm sure I've done it before but I've just reinstalled itunes and it starts evey time I turn on the computer. I have searched all the menus and haven't found an option to turn this off.
    Can anyone help please?

Go to Start>All Programs and look in Startup. iF iTunes appears there, remove it.
If iTunes is not in startup, do you have any iTunes widgets? If you don't know what they are you probably don't have any.
Some iTunes Widgets can be configured to start when you start your computer and that could cause iTunes to appear.

Did you setup a lock code? I have done this operation via iCloud just few minutes ago and it's booted with 4 numbers lock code just fine. When you lock your Mac, it's restarts automaticly and then loads with lock screen and you are only able to enter password of 4 numbers to unlock it.

  • Laptop screen remains black (off) when I turn on the computer

    Hello,
Today I came home and turned on my laptop as usual except this time the screen remained black. I can hear the fan running and then the usual windows chime at start up, but nothing to view. The HP logo at the back still lights up though. Just the actual screen remains completely black like it is off. I tried connecting it to my tv via HDMI and to an external monitor but there's no signal. I also tried doing a hard reset which I read about here but that did nothing.  I feel as though it's just the monitor won't turn on but everything else might be fine.

I have read your post on how your notebook's screen remains black when your power on your computer, and I would be happy to assist you!
Since the image will not appear on either the notebook or the external monitor, I believe there is a startup issue with your computer. • White screen when I turn on the computer

My Macbook Pro would not let me click on anything so I restarted my computer by holding down the power button, but then it stayed at a white screen for awhile, then turned to a blue screen before my login screen poped up. It let me log in but then would not let me click on anything after that. When I moved the mouse cursor where my dock would be it does not appear. Then after a half hr of it still not allowing me to do anything I restarted it again and now it is stuck at a white screen. I am not sure what is going on because my computer was working completly fine yesterday. Im not completly positive on my operating system, but I know its a 10.5 something.

That happens. One day it works fine the next not at all.
Do you have the original system discs that came with the system? Id you do get the OS reinstall disc and insert it into the DVD drive and reboot (hold down power button until the system shuts down then pres the power button again to start it back up). When it is starting hold down the Option key and if a screen comes up, other then the white screen, select the DVD disc to boot from. If that starts up then open Disk Utility and check the SMART status of the drive and Repair Disk and Repair Permissions.
But I suspect the drive has failed and will need to be replaced.
