Volume audio low

Everything is levelled very fine in FCP. I've then used Compressor to export my movie and DVD Studio Pro 4 to compile my DVD. All settings seem fine. Can anyone help me though - why is the audio so low? On other DVDs you only need volume (lets say) about a third. With these DVDs it's on almost full to hear things.
I even tried a test yesterday of everything peaking in FCP - but this made no difference to the end DVD. When playing on a laptop you could barely hear it even with the volume up all the way.

I know you mentioned the levels in FCP seemed okay, but signal may be low?
Have you checked to see if the audio itself is mastered "hot" enough? (How are you monitoring the signal, good audio speakers? Where are the dbs hitting in FCP?) Another thing to try is to export the AIFs and encode those? (Along the same lines check to see what your export settings for the audio )
On the music side of things (CDs) this happens when CDs not mastered the same - in other words often when indie bands put their CDs in the same player at the same volume, the commercial CDs sound louder (you can even hear the jumps from one commercial CD to the next). Hi all, I have a problem that just developed with my sound after 3 years of owning this PC. Is this the infamous static problem with the card or something else I can fix? Thanks.
I was playing a game the other day when the sound 'cut out'. If I turn the volume on my speakers up louder I can sometimes hear what should be playing, it's very quiet and sometimes distorted. There is also a loud hiss and static when the volume is at standard levels whilst the sound is doing this. Sometimes I can't hear anything if I turn it right up even, it's just the static.
There have been the odd pop, crackle and even strange noise coming from it on occasion over the last few days.
After a while it just decides to go back to normal and will work for a while and then do the same thing again. Will happen when playing games or even just on the desktop (listening to music to test this)
I have unplugged my speakers (2 desk speakers with subwoofer) and put headphones in, they are doing exactly the same thing so it is not the speakers.
I have updated the drivers. No change.
I'm baffled. Sometimes even restarted the computer doesn't fix it, it just decides to work again.
It's almost like it's getting inteference or picking up a staticy radio, and then cuts out again, but obviously i know that's not what it's doing.
Any solutions or am I looking at buying a new sound card here?
I'm not using two gfx cards, and the mobo is ASUS p5n-e sli. I have an Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTS gfx card.
Any other info you need let me know, thanks in advance.
Oh and I believe it's in PCI. Not PCI-E.

Did anyone solve this - I have started getting exactly the same problem today. There is a fairly loud pop and then the sound that normally should be coming form the machine (game or music) is very quiet and distorted. After a short while (a few minutes), it pops again and starts working again. I built this machine a few months ago and this is the first time that I have had this issue. The specs are as follows:

Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping 2.66Ghz (Nehalem)

Laptop Audio volume very low

Hi Experts,
I bought my Inspiron laptop in January and was hoping for good sound quality based on the advertised Waves MaxxAudio. However I find the laptop volume is very low and end up holding the speakers close to my ears when doing a skype call.
Is this an issue I need to take up with warranty support or are the speaker volumes expected to be this low?

Hello. Some of the models do have adequate volume and some have low volume, but it is a subjective thing and I don't know if anyone can say that your volume is normal or not without hearing it. Even then they would need to compare it with others of the same model. If you post your model name then maybe someone with that model will express an opinion.
If the volume is low only in Skype but okay when playing an audio file from the hard drive, then probably a Skype setting. Right click on the volume icon on the taskbar and click on "Open volume mixer" to see individual volume sliders for each device.
Also you could test by switching from the vendor's audio driver (varies by model but probably Realtek) to the Windows native audio driver. If the volume seems too low (when playing audio files) with both drivers then there could be a hardware problem.
1. Open the Device Manager (type devmgmt.msc in the Windows search box).
2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".
3. Select to "Update Driver Software".
4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".
5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".
6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.
7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).
8. Click "Next".
9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver).
10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, then no need to restart.
[To get back to the Realtek driver, do it again but reverse the names in steps 1 and 6.]
Note that the above instructions are for models with a Realtek audio driver. If yours uses IDT or Conexant, look for those names in the Device Manager.

L510 -Realtek Audio LOW volume -winXP

I recently downgraded my laptop to WinXP from Win7 and see the difference in the sound quality and the volume is low (on 100%). Any idea on how to increase the volume or any driver update?
Satellite L510 core i3 PSLGQL-002001.
Audio Driver installed : Realtek_Audio_Driver_5.10.0.5973
This model is also not listed on the support sites.

Hmm, according to my brother, sometimes it does switch to normal volume, albeit only for a couple of seconds max.
Oh well. I've given up on this and put an Audigy SE in, and it seems to be working fine.

On both my 2008 MBP and my new 2014 iMac 27" when I listen to the audio portion of a streaming video or news story using Safari, I can hardly hear anything. I have to crank the volume all the way up just to barely hear what is being said. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Sound Card Volume Too Low in Windows XP

I have installed windows xp sp2 with bootcamp and everything is working perfect.
the only problem is that - my sound card volume is low and when i restart in MacOS the sound card volume is super cool.
what shall i do ? in windows xp i can see "Cirrus Logic HD Audio" driver for sound.

I got my notebook months back.
Had password prob, I had to format it.
Since the format I can't use de finger print feature again, my speaker volume turned low even though I downloaded necessary drivers from Hp.
I am so concerned abt de speaker cos I love virtual dj and playing other media.

Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for the audio chip integrated into your systemboard can be found at the microsoft update website. It is required as part of the operatng system. No, it won't increase the sound level your notebook is capable of. If you desire more volume then I suggest that you purchase an amplified external sound system (Creative is a decent brand) to plug into the audio out jack on your notebook.

Audio low - clips captured with iSight

Hi there,
The video clips that I've captured of myself speaking into the built-in camera with iSight play back with very low volume audio.
I have clicked on "View-Show volume levels" and increased the volume to 150%, but still same problem.
After I exported for Web or for Email - made it into a .mov Quicktime clip -- and sent it to friends, they same the same thing -- LOW VOLUME.
Please someone help me out

You got one of three ways:
2. Extract Your sound and select this + Export as QuickTime as an audio file .aiff.
This file You can open in an audio editor like
- SoundEdit16™ (costs)
- Audacity (free)
- Garageband (included)
and increase as much You need
or
3. Extract the sound. Now You got an audio clip under Your video-clip in timeline.
Select this audio clip + goto Edit + Copy + Paste + Paste + Paste + Paste
Loud enough ???

I have just bought one of these cards to install in my Dell Dimension C52. I got it because it was low-profile as my case is narrow. The card will fit fine, but unfortunately, the sound card mounting bracket is too long and prevents me from closing the case. From the blank I took out of the pc case, the mounting bracket I need is 80mm long. Do Creative make a low profile sound card mounting bracket?Thanks in advance.

try to set the 'volume limit' to 'off'.
You will found that in Settings -> Music --> Volume Limit.
Or there may be a number of reasons; like : the poor audio quality of the music you have loaded.
Use some good quality songs; then I think, it will be fine.

Song volume too low at 100%

Other than the volume slider under the song info window, is there a way to increase the volume of recorded mp3s? I recorded some audio mp3s but the volume is lower than my other songs even after increasing it to 100%. Thanks.

Thanks for that info! Even in my time answering questions on iMovie Discussion Group, I never had a good understanding of when and how Optimize Movie came into play. I always would import as Optimized and Large Size and figured that was good enough. But knowing you got much, much more flexibility doing it the way you describe gives me a much better understanding of the different routes you can take into the Event Library.

Well, my volume control certainly does influence the start up chime and I cannot see why yours shouldn't. Use keyboard buttons F11 and F12 to adjust your sound level last thing at night and if your machine auto starts in the morning it will not wake the household.
True, if volume control is turned down to a lower level, you would have to adjust it for other sound output that you do want later, iTunes and videos on browsers etc, but it requires little effort.

They will never do any of the things you are requesting in my opinion. Apple doesn't care able what the customers want. They only care about what they think the customer wants. Look at iTunes. All music softwares are moving towards mp3tags except iTunes. It ***** because if I change my file name it no longer knows the file still exist. With mp3tags I would not care the name of the file. It would only care about the song title, artist, album..etc..It's still crap. Yet it's still being used by millions. I myself use it even though I hate it. It's all about numbers too with apple. How many device sold. Not how many happy customers. They will never allow SD cards since they would not be able to sell any device great than 16GB. No HDMI because they expect you to buy the $30 converter. No attachments because well they don't want to give access to the file system. No flash because html5 is the feature. App developers better get with it or apple would leave them behind :)...I think the multitasking is great.
Since the first iPod came out people been complaining about the ability to sync with multiple iTunes. Years later it still hasn't change but apple stocks only grows higher LOL :)

Alarm volume too low - iPhone 4S / iOS 6.1

Hi,
I use the standard iOS alarm, and put my phone into DND mode overnight (manually). The alarm still goes off in the morning, but the volume is inconsistent, even though I set the Ringer and Alerts volume to the max. I have vibration turned on as well, and it actually saved my bacon this morning, as the alarm volume was VERY low.
I usually listen to podcasts before I go to sleep, but always do the following before going to sleep:
Unplug headphones
Return to the home screen
Go to settings to manually turn on DND mode
Return to the home screen
Max the ringer volume with the volume + button
Plug in the charger and hear the charging chime (quite loud)
Lock the screen and hear the lock sound (again, quite loud)
Yesterday the alarm volume was about half. This morning it was at the lowest volume. Seems inconsistent.
Anyone else havuing this problem?

Update to previous post: The speaker volume was low before updating to 6.1.3. I don't remember it ever working well.
