Volume buttons on iPhone 5 loose and clicky

My iPhone 5 (black) has been having problems, the side buttons (volume) have been really loose. When I first got the phone (December) it didn't make that noise or feel like how it does now.

I'll try uploading a better image by tomorrow. If I show this thing in an Apple Store, do you think they might be able to do something about it?

Does anyone else have sticking volume buttons on iPhone 4S?

Ok, I've only had my 4S for 4 days after upgrading from the 3GS and now the up volume button is sticking. At first I thought it was the case I have it in, so I took it out. That didn't help. I can press the down volume button, but as soon as I let off, the volume will max out again. It happens for all the sounds and not just the ringer. Checking on the web, I saw the iPhone 4 has similar problems. You would have thought the newer models would have been corrected. Any ideas how to fix this on a new phone?

Same here. Ive had my 4s since the 5th of January and I'm experiencing the same defect. I dont know if its technically a defect or not, but with everyday use I have managed to cause this model of the 4s to have this sticking effect.
Called Verizon on this issue. Luckily I'm still under their newer warranty policy of 14 days! Verizon's tech support guided me through the same process that i previously followed. He eventually called Apple and they said there has been no issue regarding this type of complaint. Well i have a video of this happening multiple times at hand if need be.
Love Apple and have been treating this new iDevice like precious cargo. Its strange that normal tare and where would result in this way.
I dont know how to fix it permanently. Sorry. My only advice is to get the protection plan now, if all else fails.

This is hardware problem, but to just make certain it is not software related, Restore iPhone with iTunes 10.7 on computer. See if fixed. If still problem and if there is Warranty or AppleCare make Genius reservation and take to Apple for resolution.

Told me to pick it up. When I gave it to them all components were working. Said because they weren't able to fix it there was no charge. Don't understand this.

Probably when you dropped, kicked, smashed, threw, or whatever you did to break your screen it also damaged the logic board and the connections to the volume button, headphone jack and sleep button. Happens all the time. Apparently the shop you selected to work on it is not very good so take them off your shopping list.
Then go buy a 5th Generation iPod Touch.

How do I fix my iPhone 4 down volume button? It's stiff and hard to press all of a sudden.

All of a sudden, the down button became hard to press, I don't hear that clicking noise it used to make when I press it. The up button is fine, it's just the down button. It still works but I have to press it really hard in order for it to work. How do I fix this? How do I get it replaced if I don't have warrnty onthis and it's been over a year since I got it? How much do I pay?

Apple generally only does replacements, not repairs on the iPhone. An out of warranty replacement would be $149 plus applicable taxes.
You can either call AppleCare or take the phone in to an Apple Retail Store to setup service. You can also try contacting your carrier to see if they have other options for you.

No volume button on iPhone 3GS o sounds on iPhone

My iPhone 3GS has no volume for "clicks" and does not show volume unless the earphones are plugged in. I get the message that This accessory is not optimized for iPhone. Any fixes out there?

I thought my problem might be in the connecting area. The error message pops up when there is nothing connected to the phone. There is no way to adjust volume because the phone seems only to recognize the ringer and will not show volume bars at the base of the bell that appears when adjusting volume. When I have the earphones plugged in, there is a volume slider that appears, but disappears when I pull the earphones out. The clicks I have referred to are those that one hears when typing in a text message or entering a phone number to dial. I have no "sound effects" at all. The phone will ring with my ringtone and I can hear a caller. I can't hear music from the iPod unless the headphones are plugged in.
Is this dirty or damaged connector fixable or do I need a new phone?

Do you have mushy volume buttons?

I just upgraded, to a 16 GB iPhone.
My 8GB had beautiful volume buttons. They were firm, and made a nice audible click, when you used them. My 16 GB phone has mushy buttons. They hardly make a sound when you push them, and there isn't much feedback, it just feels like it pushes in like a finger into bread or something, and it's harder to control how much you turn the volume up or down cause of this.
I've looked at some friends, they also have mushy ones.
Is that how most of them are now? Has anyone got a phone recently and hard solid firm volume buttons?
I'm going to live with mine, but I wish the quality from phone to phone wasn't so different.

My 8GB model seems to have buttons like the mushy ones you describe (no audible click or anything). I'd never used one without them, maybe it was some of the original batch of iPhones that had the clicky buttons? Mine was purchased right before the $200 price cut.

My volume buttons have ceased to work when I want to use the built-in speakers, however they will work when I use my headphones....help!

This thread concerns IOS 7.1.2. update and the subsequent loss of volume button functionality and use of internal speakers.

It's not a jailbreak phone. The phone is a replacement from Apple and the volume buttons are virtually won't work for certain functions on the phone. Here are the symptoms:
When the volume buttons are pressed on the home screen i get "ringer" and the speaker symbol appear but nothing more (ie. +/- volume)
When playing back from iTunes with no headphones in, I get nothing through the internal speakers, nor do the volume buttons work, nor is the volume slider visable.
When i playback Youtube content with no headphones in, I get nothing through the internal speakers, nor do the volume buttons work, nor is the volume slider visable.
With headphones plugged in sound is audible and volume buttons work.
Whilst using voicemail, (no headphones connected) i can play the message through the speakers and control volume using side buttons.
I have restored the phone and this has not fixed the problem.

It sounds like your Volume buttons aren't working correctly and you are also not getting sound from your built in speaker. I would start by quitting all the running apps on your phone:
iOS: Force an app to close

Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that restart the phone and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

Alarm volume too low - iPhone 4S / iOS 6.1

Hi,
I use the standard iOS alarm, and put my phone into DND mode overnight (manually). The alarm still goes off in the morning, but the volume is inconsistent, even though I set the Ringer and Alerts volume to the max. I have vibration turned on as well, and it actually saved my bacon this morning, as the alarm volume was VERY low.
I usually listen to podcasts before I go to sleep, but always do the following before going to sleep:
Unplug headphones
Return to the home screen
Go to settings to manually turn on DND mode
Return to the home screen
Max the ringer volume with the volume + button
Plug in the charger and hear the charging chime (quite loud)
Lock the screen and hear the lock sound (again, quite loud)
Yesterday the alarm volume was about half. This morning it was at the lowest volume. Seems inconsistent.
Anyone else havuing this problem?

Update to previous post: The speaker volume was low before updating to 6.1.3. I don't remember it ever working well.

Playbook volume button defect or not?

Hi, I have a new Blackberry Playbook, and the minus physical volume button seems easier to click and makes a clicking noise, while the plus button is much tighter and does not make a clicking noise. Is this normal, or is this a defect? The plus button still works, and slightly needs more effort to press than the power button. How is the volume button on other people's tablets? Please advice. Thanks.

Volume button held to increase the volume

I have a problema that seems that increase volume button is held.
If i platina a game or If i' m watching a video sundelly start to increase the volume itself.
If I decrease the volume it start to increase again itself.
I Don't know If it's a bug or a hardware problema in the button.

Number one - that person has given you false information...the Apple store genius bar supports all Apple products whether in or out of warranty. Checking is free, service on an out of warranty item is not free.
Try a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, ignore the red slider if that appears.
Since you show that you have iOS 7.0.3 you might want to update that iOS to 7.0.4...plug the iPhone in so you are on a solid power source, then while on a WiFi go to Settings > General > Software Update and update to 7.0.4.
