Volume buttons on keyboard stopped working

Hello, the vol +/- and mute buttons have stopped functioning on my pavilion g7 1260ca running win7 home prem 64 bit.  All other buttons perform.  I've tried the shut down ,remove a/c, battery, press pwr  reboot - no luck.  I've uninstalled Quick Launch and had the HP website scan my system to detect missing software and drivers and it said all was fine.  I downloaded Quick Launch from this forum still no luck. Please advise where I might confirm and install the correct QL for my laptop
thanx

Hi,
The volume and mute functionality should be provided by the audio driver, so try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55001-55500/sp55026.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, restart the notebook and let Windows fully load.  Open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook once again.

  • Why does the volume button on iPad stop working

Sound comes on sometimes works fine other times I go to change volume and it won't sound

Is there anything around the volume rocker that might he affecting how it works? Maybe some sticky substance or anything that could be causing the button to stick?
Have you tried resetting the iPad?
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • DV7-3079WM multimedia buttons above keyboard stopped working

I recently had my laptop checked by Warranty Logistics.  When I got it back, the multimedia buttons and wireless button above the keyboard no longer work.  Since the hardware still works, I assume they disabled some custom HP software some how.  I've searched, but can't find the software.
If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it.  TIA

    Hi,
Can you let me know if these buttons are still illuminated but just will not change colour ( ie the wireless icon will not change from Amber to Blue )?
Try a Hard Reset as follows.
Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for a full minute.  Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and start the notebook - is there any change?

  • My keyboard stop working

I own lenovo g505 laptop and my keyboard stop working again the first time I fix it by restarting my laptop but now it has start doing it again and restarting/shutdown not helping any fix? and no I did not spill any liquids on it.

That could be a loose ribbon cable or hardware fault, I assume your laptop is still under warranty, If so you should return your laptop to the place of purchase for replacement or repair.
Edit: Before returning, Backup all your data to external drive using onekey recovery, Power off your laptop, Press onekey recovery (Small button to the right of power button), This will list some options scroll down to recovery & tap return key. This will re-install windows on your laptop, Once installed open wordpad or something smililar & test your keyboard. If your keyboard works after the fresh install restore your backed up files using onekey restore.
    Hope that helps

  • Q10 keyboard stopped working after 10.3.1 update

Hi everyone. I did the 10.3.1 update on my Porsche 9982 today and all is great. I did the update on my wife's Q10 and the keyboard stopped working. I have pulled the battery a couple times but still not working. I dont even know if I can restore to factury as I am not able to type 'blackberry' in the screen to do the reload. Any suggestions? This was a Q10 that was used for beta testing but is the newer model. Help

I suggest you try the very clean and very forceful AutoLoader method:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-10-OS-Device-Software/Upgrading-OS10-devices-using...
Beware that it is completely destructive...the device will be "like new"...no data, no apps, no accounts, etc. Be sure you take a full backup first, as well as make full manual documentation of all apps, accounts, configurations, etc. Sometimes a restore reintroduces the very corruption one is trying to eliminate, and manual reconfiguration is necessary.
You can also use this to fall back to a prior OS if you desire...you can install any OS level for which you can find an AutoLoader. (Hint...search over on the CB site!)
Good luck and let us know!

  • IMac Intel Core Duo Keyboard Stops Working Intermittently

    Hello,
About every 10 minutes or so, maybe longer, my iMac's keyboard stops working completely. The list shown below are additional items that I have tried or is a side-effect to the keyboard issue:
The problem occurs on more than one keyboard, therefore, it doesn't seem to be a faulty keyboard issue
The quick solution is to unplug the keyboard from the back of my iMac and plug it in again. Then the keyboard resumes its normal operation. However, on some occasions, the unplug/plugin technique does not work. It that case, I have to do a hard power-down, wait 10 seconds, then turn the iMac on again. Normal keyboard operation is finally returned.
The mouse will turn off, which is indicated by the light inside the mouse turning off
If the mouse does turn off, I unplug it from the keyboard and plug it directly into the back of the iMac. The light inside the mouse comes back on, but the mouse cursor is unresponsive
The iMac Intel Dual Core is about six years old.
    Any information is appreciated
    Thank you,
    Tony

Try doing a SMC reset, if that doesn't work try a PRAM reset. Don't be afraid to do these resets 2-3 times each if they don't work the first time.
    _SMC RESET_
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
    • Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    • Release the power button.
    • Attach the computers power cable.
    • Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    _PRAM RESET_
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    • Turn on the computer.
    • Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    • Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    • Release the keys.

  • Mighty Mouse and wireless keyboard stop working

Just got my iMac yesterday and everything worked out of the box. But once yesterday and once so far today, the wireless mighty mouse and keyboard stopped working.
Today I noticed after the mouse stopped moving the cursor, the little green light on the bottom of the mouse was blinking. I turned off the mouse and turned it back on, but the green light still blinked and the mouse still didn't work.
The only thing that did something was the power button on the iMac. I had to turn off the iMac and turn it back on. Then the keyboard and mouse worked again.
What's going on? Do I need to get the iMac repaired?

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions ...
    Try deleting this file. com.apple.bluetooth.plist
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag that file from the Preferences folder to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot.
If that doesn't help, make sure the batteries are charged. Go to System Preferences/Keyboard&Mouse. Click the Bluetooth tab. Your battery levels are displayed there. When it gets down to one green bar on the left, install new batteries.
If none of the above helps, turn the mouse and keyboard off. Delete the mouse and keyboard from the System Preferences/Bluetooth devices window. Select the mouse in the window on the left, then click the minus - button. Now open the slider on the mouse so the green light blinks. Click + which will launch the Bluetooth Setup Assistant. Just follow the instructions. Same for the keyboard. If you still have issues with the wireless hardware, I'd take it back. You have 14 days in case you need to replace the iMac.

Qwerty keyboard stops working arbitrarily when replying to email. Unable to backspace or type anything? Any ideas?

I would reset the iPad and see if that fixes it:

  • Ps2 keyboard stops working

I've been working on a dual boot machine tonight, got Windows up, got Arch up, rebooted after working on X,
and my ps2 keyboard stopped working.  Not in grub, where I can still choose what to boot, nor in Windows, if I go that way.  But I cannot even log into Arch.  I've seen some posts re this happening inside Arch, but never to this extent.
I've tried 2 keyboards, same issue.  The weird thing is that it was working.
I don't have a usb keyboard and I really hate to spend any money on this; any ideas?

I forgot to check the bios to look for anything there, but I did boot with Arch CD and still had no keyboard once I get to the login prompt.  (Did have it for modifying the grub startup menu, etc)  Will check the bios tonight for any oddities.
It still works in Windows, so the keyboard and connector can't be bad.
    [UPDATE]
I checked the bios, nothing there dealing with the ps/2 at all.  I did note that when I boot into Windows, the num lock button light on my keyboard lights up, but when I go into arch, I can get none of the lights to come on.  The keyboard seems completely dead.
Could this be a missing driver or something like that?  When I was messing with it the other day I got it to be recognized by turning the computer completely off and then restarting it; that hasn't worked since.
Could this be a bug somewhere?

  • Keyboard stopped working

    Hello,
I've upgraded my OS to windows 10 at July 29th. Everything was just fine till yesterday when my keyboard stopped working. It works in BIOS or in windows recovery, just doesn't work when trying to type my user password or when I already log in into windows using the on-screen keyboard. I've tried basically everything, tried all the steps mentioned in ur FAQ, tried to update keyboard drivers, in the end I reinstalled my OS and restored it to default settings this way but it still does not work. The only thing that comes to my mind now is that I had to lock the keyboard somehow (it works everywhere but not while/after logging in). Is there any way to unlock it?

Have you tried removing the battery from the device?
You can test the hardware of the keyboard by going to Options >type Status in the search bar and go to Device and Status Information. On the screen type the letters T E S T. You can run the diagnostics for the keyboard (and other diagnostics) in order to test and be sure it's not a software issue.

  • HT1199 Help. Forward button on keyboard not working on itunes anymore. anyone have any ideas?

Forward button on keyboard not working on itunes anymore. This always used to work i don't know what has changed. Click on next track works also does the remote control.

If you are referring to the functional keys on top. do you press FN key together with the F7, F8 or F9? Does that work?
I hardly ever use the F keys as CMD_ARROW is much faster for me and SPACE bar stops or starts as long as iTunes app is in the foreground

  • Mouse and keyboard stop working with Mavericks

This has happened twice now since installing Mavericks.
I'll be working along, and then all of a sudden, I am not able to click with my mouse and my keyboard stops working. I AM able to move the cursor around on the screen. But, I am not able to click on anything and I can't use the keyboard to force quit the finder. The only way to get unstuck is to press the power button on the front of the Mac to shut it down and then restart.
I am using a wired Apple Keyboard and a wireless Apple Magic Mouse. My Mac is a MacPro 2 x 2.3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon Mac.
Like I said. this has never happened before. But it's happened twice since installing Mavericks.

Everytime I restart my computer, especially for updating maverick, my keyboard and attached mouse (both apple for an Imac) stop working. When I plug in an other keyboard, I can get into my Imac again. Would this SMC apply to this problem as well?
    What should I do?
    thanks, hb

This problem occurs with any page that requires keyboard input. If I make an errot in typing and have to go back or edit a sentence the keyboard stops working. THis only happens with Firefox and not with any other browser (Chrome, Safari etc)
