Volume control disappearing

i have an ipod touch, i think second generation. it is running ios 3.1.2 and last year at the beach, some water got on the bottom part of it. since then, you can't hear music directly from it and you need to connect it to speakers or headphones. it has been working like this for almost a year now, but jsut today, i was connecting the headphones normally, then no sound was coming out of them and i found the volume control var missing. i tried to restart it, reset it, and nothing worked. now the only solution i have would be to restore. i dont' know whether to restore without backup? or to backup first and whether or not this will solve it. i also followed some threads and tried cleaning the connection area with a thin brush, but it didn't work. any solutions?

thank you for your response. i tried a step before teh restore and it worked there it is so that it might help anyone:
from settings, i pressed "reset all settings" without ereasing any content. and after this step, the volume control bar was abck to normal and i was hearing sound from teh headphones and from any speakers again

I upgraded my Iphone 4OS to 5.0.1 this morning and now the volume control has disappeared from the music.  The phone is totally silent apart from when incoming calls are made.  No alert noises either.  Tried restoring to original settings but this hasn't worked.  Any advice? HELP!

  • Volume controls disappeared

My volume controls have disappeared. The first indication that something was wrong was when I installed "Pandora Radio". It displayed a "No Volume Control" message at the bottom (in place of where you would expect the volume slider to be)... Weird I thought... And I was getting no volume (VERY faint sound) thru my earphones... I switched to "Music" and got the same effect... AND the volume slider is now missing...
At some point in this process I installed OS 3.1.3... I think this was AFTER I noticed the problem. I removed Pandora Radio... no help...
Is Apple aware of this problem... How can I report this to Apple... Seems like a pretty serious problem... right?

OK... here is a workaround... Not great but maybe it will work for some... Apple sells a "Universal Docking Station" (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB125G/C?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY)... This has a USB port... SO... plug a USB headset with volume control into the docking station and you should be able to get sound in a headset... Warning... I haven't actually tried this yet so if anyone has tried it let me know... It would be pretty awkward to listen to music while jogging... But might be acceptable on a plane or train...

  • Volume control disappears

I have a 3rd gen ipod touch that I have been using for several months with no issues but about a week ago I was listening to a podcast when it went silent, I checked the display and found the volume control had disappeared and it had gone to pause. After playing with it for a few minutes I unplugged the head phones and replugged them in and the volume control reappeared. I figured my headphones were going bad (it happened a few more times that day) so I bought a mid quality pair of regular headphones (not ipod) but it did it again, so I bought a set of ipod replacement headphones (for $30) and it is still doing it. Sometimes it will go hours with no problem, sometimes it happens a couple time in a few minutes but I can't seem to reproduce the problem.... what I mean is I cannot cause it to do it, it does it when it feels like it. If this is a hardware problem I'd like to get it fixed before my warranty runs out, anyone else have this problem?

Mostly, this is for Apple users to discuss problems and solutions although Apple staff often post here.
If you want a direct response from Apple, the best thing is to go see one of their techies at the Genius Bar at an Apple store near you.
Now, back to the problem. Most often, this problem seems to occur when the headphones aren't sitting all the way into the headphone jack. So make sure this is happening. One of the things which can prevent the headphones sitting in ALL THE WAY is dirt/dust/foreign objects. So make sure the headphone jack (the socket) is clean of debris. Then make sure the docking socket is clean of gunk too. If none of this works, then try a HARD restart (i.e. hold the top and bottom buttons down until the iPod powers off by itself). and it THAT doesn't work, try resetting it next time it's hooked up to iTunes on your computer.
    Hope this helps.

  • 3.1 Volume Control Strangeness

After docking/undocking my Touch the volume is turned all the way down. This happens even when iTunes isn't running. If I dock the touch w/ the volume control displayed, the volume control disappears for a second and then reappears and it's just a fraction above off. When I undocked it the volume control auto-adjusts to off.
Has anyone else had this happen?

I did further troubleshooting and isolated the problem to the iPod's interaction with the dock itself. When I use the cable without the dock the volume doesn't reset. The dock is the last generation (came out about the time of the 5th gen iPod classic). I have a brand new dock that I will try next.
I also found that turning off, then back on the keyboard clicks in the settings makes them audible again. If the new dock doesn't fix the issue it will be very annoying to have to reset the volume and keyboard click every time. Simply not using the dock would work, but is an unacceptable workaround.

  • No volume controls on iPad 2 after Bluetooth unpairing

On an iPad 2 with ios 8.1.2, I can successfully pair and use a Bluetooth headset.  Volume controls work on the headset and the iPad 2.  No problems.  But after unpairing, the volume controls on the iPad 2 are gone or greyed out (depending on the app).  The mechanicals buttons do not change the volume level either.  I have tried hard reset without success.
One more data point ... if I plug in a wired set of earbuds, the volume controls return.  But if I remove the 3.5 mm jack, the volume controls disappear.
This condition started with pairing a set of Bluetooth earbuds.  Any suggestions appreciated.
ON EDIT:  This doesn't happen on my iPhone 5s with the same Bluetooth earbuds.

Same thing here. Started with iOS8, continues with 8.0.2. Only workaround I've seen is to reboot and/or power off/on.
Sometimes stays connected for hours. Other times No Service after a few minutes.
Since the upgrade to 8 never said it wasn't supported for iPad 2's my expectation is it should work. C'mon Apple.

  • Please Help With My Volume Control Prob

Hi. I purchased an Asus P5WD2-E Premium over the summer. I used to use a creative sound blaster li've card and just the windows drivers for it. I would use on-board audio for my front panel headphone jack , and switch within windows without a problem. After a week or so The windows volume control disappeared from my task bar, and Flash movies from youtube and other sites would not play with audio anymore. I bought an Audigy 2ZS and have disabled onboard sound in the Bios. Yesterday I had the same problem again. I am running Windows XP Prof with SP2. The only thing I did yesterday was uninstall, then reinstall FFDSHOW. Any ideas on what can be happening, and how to fix it. Thanks a lot

By the way... it says my version is 0.0.58 I think i need a firmware update. Can someone tell me where to get that and how to do it please? The user guide is not working on my PC.
That number you see on the recovery menu is not your firmware version; you find that thru System > Information on your Micro's main menu (but you can't get there). I'd try all the options on the recovery menu--yes, even formatting. (Sorry, your music is probably screwed; that's why you should always have a backup plan--PC dri've, original or burned CD's, subscription service for re-downloading, etc.)
The "reload firmware" option erases the current firmware so you can reload it. Download it from your national Creative site by choosing Support > Downloads from the site menu above; you can also go directly to Creative's international download site, http://www.nomadworld.com/downloads/drivers/ . If you're using a "to-go" subscription service, download version 2..02; otherwise, download version ..0.

The volume control has disappeared from the music app on my iPhone and i can't play any music how do i fix this?

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray BEFORE doing the reset.

  • HT4623 my volume control button on my music disappears - any ideas why?

My volume control button on my music disappears and therefore so does my tone when I get message or calls.  Any ideas why?

Quit the App by opening multi-tasking bar, holding down the icon for the App for about 3-5 seconds, and then tap the red circle with the white minus sign.
Relaunch the App and try again.
    Restart the device. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Reset the device. (Same article as above.)
Restore from backup. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766 (If you don't have a backup, make one now, then skip to the next step.)
Restore as new device. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137  For this step, do not re-download ANYTHING, and do not sign into your Apple ID.
Test the issue after each step.  If the last one does not resolve the issue, it is likely a hardware problem.

Do you block the panels objects for avoid to move?
Otherside, the panel object run in background or not?

This forum is for suite specific questions only. Yours appears to be application specific and if I was sure which one I would move this there.
There are several video apps so please post this in the appropriate one where the experts are far more likely to see it.

  • After restarting my MacBook the volume control icon disappeared

Where did the volume control icon go? Yes I can manually do it on my keyboard
but after restarting my laptop yesterday, the icon is no longer there.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Try adding the volume control icon to menu bar. Open System Preferences > Sound, and mark "Show volume in menu bar"

The volume control in all apps and music just disappeared the other day, so I have no sound whatsoever. Didn't do anything different. The headphones are securely attached to the jack, I tried the "Reset all" option. Nada. What's next?
