Volume controls do not work after booting

After installing Lion, my volume controls have seemingly been disabled.  If I plug in headphones, the volume controls work again, however, I have to do this everytime. I've searched around for an answer for about two weeks now, but haven't found one that worked.  I don't have a red light in my headphone jack and before this issue, I never used headphones.
Also, it seems that the sound at maximum volume is not as loud as it used to be in Snow Lepoard.  Is anyone else experiencing this?  Any solutions?
Things I've tried:
Putting headphones in and restarting then removing
     Resetting NVRAM
     Repairing and verifying permissions
     Verifying disk

  • Keyboard volume control does not work

I have an iMac G5, running OS 10.5.8, and a new Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad. My keyboard volume control does not work. Any have ideas as to why ? (I have a similar set-up at work with no volume problems.)

Try system prefs/keyboard/keyboard/ and uncheck Use all F1, F2 etc as standard function keys.
Other wise the volume and brightness controls will only work if you hold down the function key first (fn)

My Bose SIE2i volume control does not work. (pause/play does work). This is the second set - the apple store in Sydney replaced the first set that had the same problem. It was working OK and has stopped.

Thanks again V.K. I did check the layout, and it was listed as alphabet when I inputted the password. So that doesn't seems to the the issue.
Just finished a truly mystifying experiment, but I put in a shorter password in the way mentioned earlier and it worked. I then systematically kept increasing the characters of that password and it seems that if the password starts to exceed about 16, it stops recognizing it. I am fairly sure it is not the password itself since it never gives an error when typing in the verification password. So unless I systematically make the exact mistake twice at the setup screen, and then don't or make a different mistake every time at the login screen, I don't think its my typing skill.
So problem solved for now, but I am still a bit worried. Maybe I should completely reinstall and use a shorter password.
Is there supposed to be a length limit?

  • Brightness and volume control keys not working with windows 7?

brightness, volume control and some other keys keys are not working with windows 7 with macbook pro retina. Can I fix it?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Have you installed Boot Camp drivers? You need them to make your computer work properly on Windows, and to use your function keys as Play or Pause, volume and brightness keys.
To install them, follow these steps:
    1. Press the X key while your Mac is starting to start into OS X.
    2. Open Boot Camp Assistant and tick only the option to download Windows support software.
    3. Windows support software will be downloaded and Boot Camp Assistant will ask you to burn it into a DVD or USB drive, so do it.
    4. Start into Windows, insert the DVD or USB drive and install Boot Camp drivers. Your Mac and your volume and brightness keys will be working after installing the drivers

  • Sound not working after booting

First of all, I have tried to uninstall and then install again the drivers of the sound card for W8.1
The sound does not work if I have switched off my laptop and then boot it. If I reboot it, the sound works. It's just when I have switched off it from Windows (maybe because W8 does not a complete switch off but a kind of hibernation).
In the audio mixer of the tray the green bar which shows when it's playing sound works like it's working and if I plug some headphones on the jack port they work like a charm,
Any idea of what's happening? I've just bought this laptop last week and I'm very happy with it apart from this thing

From your models support page Download & Save the latest Audio driver.Go into Control Panel,Programs & Features- Uninstall IDT software.Restart the laptop. After Windows loads, install IDT audio using the downloaded file.

  • Volume control buttons not working with new usb keyboard

    Hi all,
I recently replaced the bluetooth keyboard that came with my iMac with the usb keyboard (the long aluminium one, with the number block). Typing is no problem, but the volume control keys dont seem to work with this keyboard as I was used to with the bluetooth keyboard: max vol, increase/decrease and vol. off dont operate with any of the keys (f, alt, str, cmd, shift). Only thing I can do is get a view of the running programs or make the current application vanish from the screen.
Tried to change the keyboard setting in preferences for the F1-12 keys - made no change.
    help is very much appreciated.
    Thanks

I was able to fix this bug by upgrading to OS X 10.6.8.
Very strange that a) it was a problem in the first place and b) that the upgrade did not happen automatically
Thanks very much to Haggibbor, who alerted me to that possibility. Since I read this in a thread I did not open myself, I unfortunately do not know how to let him have the 10 points I would like him to receive. (Hints for this newbie are very welcome.)
Problem of volume control keys is now solved.

  • The music controls are not working after updating to iOS 7!

After updating, the main music app is working fine, but the music player accessed through the lockscreen and the menu you pull up by swiping upwards is not working properly!!!!! The fastforward, rewind and play/pause buttons aren't responding at all! Volume and the pace bar works though...Please help!!!

I had the same bug. Powering off the phone and back on resolved the issue

  • Brightness control keys stop working after booting MacOSX

I bought a new iMac 27" a couple of weeks ago, and I installed Windows 7 using bootcamp.
All the control keys (brightness, volume, etc) works ok on Windows until I reboot it in MacOSX. When i start windows again, brightness controls keys stops working, leaving the screen with the maximus bright, which is killing my eyes.
Reparing boot camp drivers doesn't do the trick. Am I missing something?

Try fn + the controls. It might be that Windows defaulted to those buttons as F1, F2, etc. Using fn while pressing the buttons will 'tell' Windows that it has to listen to the Bootcamp software and lower the brightness.

  • Volume Control Keys Not Working

I got a new MacBook Pro last week and i've noticed that the volume control keys on the keyboard are not working.  When I press any of the keys, the grey box that typically appears does show up, but the volume level indicator does not move and there is a small circle underneath with a line through it that shows up every time as well. The only thing that changes is the actual speaker icon, which will change from having a line through it to not having a line through it and vice versa. I've checked the setting for the F# keys, and this is not "checked" in the settings.  I'm not sure if this is something I can fix or if it is something I will have to go into the store to have checked out - suggestions?

I cant believe nobody has a fix on this!

  • MenuBar volume control does not work

itunes volume control DOES control the volume of my external speakers which are attached to a ProSonus FireBox.
Website links with controls of audio DO control the volume of my external speakers which are attached to a ProSonus FireBox
However, the main Mac MenuBar sound control slide bar does not control the sound itunes or these websites AND the MenuBar sound control slide bar does not control either my internal or external speakers.
Sound Control panel Input Panel is set at the PreSonus FireBox (0260) device with mic setttings at mid level and the master output volume set about 1.5 units up with "show volume in menu bar" box checked and Mute box clear of checkmarks.
The Sound Control Panel Output panel is set at Presonus FireBox (0260) with the master output volume set at 1.5 units with "show show volume in menu bar" box checked and Mute box clear of checkmarks. Controlling the slider from the Sound Control Panel DOES control the slider in the Mac MenuBar but not the sound.
The fact that sound is coming out of the firebox indicates sound from itunes and web site sound links IS being redirected from the internal speakers to the firebox and then the firebox is redirecting the sound to the external speakers.
However, the volume control at the mac is not sending out a lower
signal to the firebox or the firebox is not responding to the lower signal or something else has control over the volume control.
There are two clues. The volume control of itunes DOES work and the manual control of the Firebox is working.
Another interesting observation is that the "Sound Effects" panel of the Sound Control Panel does appear to work correctly; the alerts are supposed to work through the internal speakers (as the drop down list box is selected that way) and the Master volume does limit the alert volume. But I find it interresting that the Master volume is coupled to the internal speakers when the Master Volume should be coupled to the firebox (and then through to the external speaakers).

    Hi stoye-
You cannot control the volume of the digital signal. The presonus converts the digital signal to analog and the volume control is done there.

  • Control key not working after repair

I took my macbook in over the weekend to the genius bar for them to look at the display hinge, from the paperwork it looks like in addition to replacing the display they also replaced the logic board and the wifi card.
I got the laptop home and the control key is not working. Resetting PRAM and NVRAM doesn't fix the issue, nor does fiddling with keyboard/universal access settings.
Is this a hardware issue? Do I need to make another trip to the genius bar?

Hm-m, I got exactly the same problem, got the logic board replaced today, and at home discovered that the control key is not working. Have you found the solution?

  • My fan for my dv1635ca is not working after boot.

    Hi,
Obviously it is an old computer but surprisingly it still runs 1080p movies and stuff so I gave it to my youngest daughter.  There is one problem with it however.
After installing windows 7 on it, and installed a media player called plex, everything seems fine, but the fact that it heats up a lot.  But there is no noise so i discovered that the fan was not working.
I thought maybe the fan is gone so i'd have to buy another piece, but the fact is that everytime i reboot the computer, the fan works flawlessly for 4-5 seconds and the second the windows 7 loading logo shows up, it permenantly stops working.
I don't know if there is such a thing as a fan driver nor can i find one.  I have tried to look at programs like speedfan and they don't even see a fan running.  Yet when i start the computer, the fan runs for a few seconds so it can't be a hardware issue.
    thanks

  • Keyboard and mouse not working after boot

    Hello!
    it's my first time here
I have been using archlinux for a couple of months and after an upgrade, my mouse and keyboard stopped working.
I have also posted it on linuxquestions:
    http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions … ot-934040/
What might be causing that problem?
and, considering the problem occurred after an upgrade, reinstalling the system would correct it?

when booting into runlevel 3, the keyboard and mouse works fine.
