Volume dial problems on Satellite A110-162

When I turn the volume dial on my laptop all the way down, the sound will mute as expected. But after 10 seconds or so the sound will slowly start to creep up, to the point where it becomes very loud. But this only happens when the dial it turned all the way down. If the dial is at any other position the sound is fine. Does anyone know what the problem is?
Thank you.

Hi Sam
The sound problem described in your message confuses me I have never heard about such issues and I really cannot find a plausible explanation why this happens I can provide only some suggestions and I suppose a sound volume controller on the motherboard could malfunctions.
Firstly I would recommend recovering the notebook with the delivered Toshiba recovery CD and if this doesnt help to solve this issue you should contact the ASP in your country for a notebook check and help!
Good luck

  • How to solve no bass problem on Satellite A110-230?

I have read about other users having some problems with sound. There is no bass when I connect my stereo system. So I used the search and found a solution.
Renamed two files! The sound quality is better now but incomparable with other laptops I tried. Are there any updated files or something to solve this problem fully? Maybe someone knows other drivers of a similar device I could install? I use Satellite A110-230.
P.S. I read about these problems in forum. These posts are added a long time ago. Hasn't anything changed? Werent some new drivers released?
    Nobody properly solved this problem?

    Hi
I think the renaming of the two files was a solution and the bass appeared.
In my knowledge the notebook was delivered with no brand speakers.
So in my opinion the speakers quality in not the same likes with the Harman kardon speakers.
The unit supports also a sound on board chip Realtek ALC861.
You could try to install the newest driver from the Realtek site and if you are lucky maybe the bass quality will increase.

  • Satellite A110 Upgrade - Xpress 200M problem, lost Toshiba software

I own Toshiba Satellite A110-110. After using this laptop for a two years with pre-installed system, CPU and RAM I have decided to upgrade it. So, I change Celeron M410 for a Core Duo T2450, 60 GB HDD for a 250 GB HDD and 512 MB RAM for a 2 GB RAM and Windows XP HE for a Vista Business.
Installation of all parts and software went fine. Then, I downloaded and installed drivers for Vista. So what is wrong you might ask?
An ATI Xpress 200M, which could get from RAM up to 256 MB for graphic on Windows XP, now, with Vista, this graphic card in control panel displays only 128 MB obtained (shared) memory. What is more, there is no option to change settings and have that old 256 MB. Maybe someone knows the solution?
As the second main problem after upgrading my personal system is total lost of all Toshiba utilities like Connectivity Doctor, Wireless LAN search (transparent oval radar hide on the right side of screen with other options), SRS WOW Sound panel and other which were in based configuration.
Vista doesn't display anything though I put to the system some of it. If anyone can help to solve this problem and has knowledge where I can get that kind of software please give me a tip, and write what kind of idea you are able to share.
    Thank you for any help!!!

Thanks Homer for your answer. I went to link which you have send me. Once again I downloaded all drivers for A110 with Vista from Toshiba Support Website. When I have started installing those drivers, during the process, some of drivers couldn't be installed because of lack of appropriate software. As I stated in first post, I don't have any pre-installed Toshiba software which were included to A110 at the beginning (with XP, manufacturer configuration). Drivers and software offered by Toshiba via its website contain rather updates than basic and full software which can be downloaded and installed on any Toshiba laptop. So, here we go again to the beginning. Moreover, even if some of software were installed succesfully I still can't use Connectivity tool (that oval radar for searching available wireless intenet), I can't see and set SRS Wow sound panel beacuse there is no any set window to do this. Well, maybe they are not compatible with Vista and there is no possibility to see and use them like before (with XP). What do you think about it?

    Hello,
My sound card has stopped working it was working fine but suddenly the sound quality started to faint and finally it stopped working i have tried the following methods:
    Realtek is default audio
Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be they something like "modem line 0 playback" might have been substituted for the proper audio device.( Didn't Worked)
Chipset Utility - install ( Did'n't Worked Aswell)
Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open in left pane click Services(Local) from the tree / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply / click Start > OK Reboot. (Worked) But First The Quality Was Not As It Was Before And Then Sound Card Stopped Working Again.
    Try a System File Check
go to Run - type "sfc /scannow" No Success.
I have installed windows again but no success. :(

  • My iPods sound is iffy, for lack of a better word. At times it's fine, but most the time it doesn't work. The volume dials don't show up either. What's wrong with it and how should I fix it?

My friend said the speakers might be blown, but the sound still works at times. And I'm sure if he speakers were broken then the volume dials would show up as well. So I need help figuring out whys going on.

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack or other hardware problem.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
If not under warranty Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.

  • Satellite A110 does install from recovery disk but HDD not displayed

    Hi guys,
after searching the net I've finally found a forum in which I hope you can help me.
I've tried to search this forum for an anwser but couldn't find it.
I have a toshiba satellite a110 -159 which after a sudden stop didn't boot up.
chkdsk did discover a lot of problems when I connected the hard drive to another pc, but the laptop still couldn't boot from the disk.
anyways, I copied the most important data and remounted the disk in the laptop. with the product recovery discs I managed to reinstall windows xp media center installation, but after the first reboot, the laptopt didn't find the hard disk, it is not displayed in the bios.
strange though that the recovery discs did install... anyone knows how to relist the hard disk in the bios? it was listed there before the reinstall of windows xp mc... :( so it's like it did something with the bios or so.
hope you guys know what's wrong with this one.
    thnx in advance!
    Edit:
the disk is accessible when placed in another system or desktop system with convertor, and copies and works just fine.

    I've solved it
opened the laptop and shortened the battery located on the motherboard (couldn't detach it because it was soldered).
the short reset the bios and it found the disk again
very weird though, but it works all fine now.
hope this helps anyone else if they got the same :)

  • Satellite A110-195 lan crashes

    Hi
My satellite a110-195 crashes when i'm sending files to another lan computer. There's nothing wrowng with the other lan computer
because i'm also testing it with an a100-906 and works fine.
I've formated hard disk and reinstalled windows xp but the problem is still there.
I'm using the latest bios. Is a very strange problem.
Lan works fine with my internet connection and system crashes only when I transfer big files.
    About 800mb files.
I think that it's software orientated.
    Looking forward to an answer.
Edit: A few more info.Laptop crashes ONLY when i'm sending files and ONLY when i'm using the battery. I've ordered a usb to lan card, to see what's going. But it's a shame a one week old laptop to have such problems.
    Thanks
    Nick

    Hi
I've posted this in another thread regarding the same issue and I think I've got a answer.
Do you have a Realtek Lan card?
If yes then you will have to contact the ASP in your country for a fix.
I had a similar issue with my Realtek Lan card on a Satellite A110.
From time to time my system locked up while copying big over the Realtek LAN port.
I have spoken to local technician and he said that a patch is needed.
Unfortunately, I dont know what he did but after the update (or patch installation) I didnt notice the same issue again.
Therefore I would recommend contacting the authorized service partner and ask for the fix.
    Good luck

  • Satellite A110-293 Windows will not boot up. ntoskrnl. No recovery CD

I have a Toshiba Satellite A110-293 with Windows XP. I upgraded to Vista a few months ago. One day I turned on my laptop and got the following error message:
+"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:+
+1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.+
    +2. Choose your language......+
    +3. Click "Repair your computer"+

+Info: Windows failed to load because a required file is missing, or corrupt+
I do *not* have my original CDs or Vista upgrade DVD, since I'm overseas for a few months.
I tried to get a Recovery CD through the website (https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/serial.aspx), but it stated:
+"For your device no recovery medium can be ordered, because it comes either not from the region of Toshiba Europe, or it is too old for this service. "+
    HELP!

    Hi
I presume you can order only the newer Toshiba Vista recovery DVD using this Toshiba website.
If you need a Recovery CD (Win XP) for this older Satellite series then you will have to contact the ASP (authorized service provider) in your country.
At the other hand you could use an original Microsoft XP CD to repair or to reinstall the OS.
By the way; did you try to boot the OS in safe mode pressing the F8?
Please check this. Maybe its possible.

  • Satellite A110 Media Apps for Windows Media Player don't work!

Hello, I've got a Toshiba Satellite A110 Notebook since 2006.
2 Days ago a friend formated my notebook. In order to make the systemstart a little bit faster, he stopped a few Toshiba applications in the system configuration. My notebook worksa now very good.
But here is the problem: Before formatting I could use these helpful Media Apps for my Windows Media Player - basically because of laziness to switch between the programms during working. :-)...
But now, they don't work anymore. :-(
Is it possible, that we've stopped an application, which is important to make these apps run?
Or is an additional driver left?
Or do they only work in cobination with Windows Media Player 10. (now I've installed the WMP 11)
I hope for your helpful answers.
But think over, that I'm not such great computer genius! ;-)... :-(

Try to enable all disabled applications. Go to START > Run and write MSCONFIG inside.
When the System Configuration window is open go to Startup tab and enable all applications with empty Startup Item.
Restart your notebook and check if everything works well again.

  • Satellite A110 reboots automatically after every shutdown

    Hi!
    I have the following problem:
When shutting down the system, my notebook first goes off completely as desired, but 2 seconds later it starts again. It behaves different from a usual reboot - then it does not turn off, but reboots directly. Furthermore I can exclude software problems, since I tested it with different operating systems and the behaviour is the same everywhere. This problem was not there earlier, but then suddenly occurred and is now there every time.
Ah, also important is that if the AC adaptor is NOT connected (i.e. notebook runs solely on battery), the problem does not occur. If the notebook runs on AC power, the problem occurs, no matter whether the battery is in the notebook or not.
Can someone help? Every hint is highly appreciated!
    My notebook is a
    Satellite A110-228
    Part Number : PSAB0E-00J007GR
    Thank you very much!

I have the same problem on an A135. I've updated the bios. I changed out the hard drive. (I have a few of these computers.) THIS IS NOT A SOFTWARE or FIRMWARE problem. This is a hardware problem. I just don't know what kind. When the power cord is plugged in the computer will not hibernate or turn off correctly. It will shut down then start up again in 5 seconds. When the power cord is unplugged both hibernate and shutdown work correctly. However, sleep mode doesn't work in either condition. Sleep mode always turns off the computer without doing a proper shutdown. Anyone have any ideas??

  • Satellite A110 - WiFi switch is not working with new WiFi card

    Hello Everyone
I have a problem with my Toshiba Notebook Satellite A110-178 (PSAB0E). I replaced the original WIFI card Intel 3945abg with Intel Link 5100 and on the new wifi card wifi hardware switch is not working.
New wifi card is discovered and drivers working correct but when I try to scan for wifi networks with IntelPro/Wireless software I have message to turn on hardware switch but it's turn on and not work. On old wifi card swich is working correct - orange light is on. On new card light is off and swich is not working.
    Please help

    Hi
    Maybe you could enable the Wlan card using different way;
Go to device manager -> WLan card properties -> Advanced tab
There you could check if there is a option which would enables the WLan.
    Its worth a try
Otherwise its a compatibility issue like suggested by PinkPanther
I read in different threads that this could happens if there is a different pin assignment on miniPCI WLan card and this could not match with the miniPCI slot on the mobo...

  • Satellite A110-180 - Fan starts but stops after few seconds

    Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite A110-180 and when I turn on the computer the fan starts running but it stops in a few seconds and starts again in a while and stops again and starts..... Then the laptop gets heat quickly.
I bought the laptop around 5 years ago so I think that the problem is either the fan or the circuit that controls the fan. Can someone that has had the same problem make me sure that the fan is the problem?
The part number of the fan is ATZHG000500. Does anybody know if a fan with P/N ATZHG000100 is compatible with my laptop or if I can use other fan?
    Thanks for your help,

    Hi Boarder,
    Thanks for your quick reply.
I already cleaned the fan 3 days ago because I thought that perhaps that was the reason of the fan running. I installed a program to control the hard drive and CPUs temperature and at the beginning when I turn on the laptop in the morning the temperature is ok, but when I look an email and surf by internet a little bit for 10 min the temperature increase in 10º or more in CPU and hard drive, and the fan is still running in the same way that I commented (in a discontinuous way). So I don't think that it's normal at least theoretically. I also have another laptop and the fan is running all the time.
I'll check about the thermal grease to see if the condition are fine.

  • Satellite A110-293 hangs in the hibernate mode

Toshiba Satellite A110-293 is hanging in the hibernate mode after opening the notebook cover. Nothing happens after tapping the keyboard, mouse clicking or any other activity (i.e. opening DVD-ROM etc.)
The cover was closed as usual with some programs running. After about 10 minutes I`ve tried to open but all system was in hibernate mode and it is still sleeping.
Please help me to restart (fix or smth) the notebook, because I haven`t found any restart button.
    Many Thanks in advance.

well, if I were you I would probably try to:
    1) (long) press the Power button until its blue light shuts down (just to be sure the system is powered down)
    2) press again the Power button to power-up the system;
if (and only if) the system was not starting to boot after (step 2) I would do the following:
    3) unplug the power cord from the laptop
    a) if all the LEDs are off remove the battery (for a few minutes)
(only) if any LED/(light indicator) is on when trying to perform the step 3a) - proceed as described in step 1) and then try again the above ( step 3a) and then 3b) - below )
    b) put the battery back and try again step 1) and step 2)
if even after step 3) the system still refuses to power on I would try:
    4) with the power cord (from the adapter) unplugged from the laptop, remove the battery (as stated in 3) and 3a) ); then try to plug in the power cord and power (from the Power button) the laptop - without the battery (battery removed)
    a) if the laptop powers up it could be a battery problem; at least the system is functioning! :)
    b) if the laptop still doesn't power up then I would take it to warranty
if I were you I would do what I wrote above; I don't advice you to do or not to do what I previously stated; I'm just telling you what I would try in such a case

  • Satellite A110-149: Sometimes keyboard changes from AZERTY to QWERTY

HI, and sorry for my poor English speaking (I'm French and novice at English)
I have a problem with my laptop: Satellite A110-149, running Windows XP, bought in January 2007.
Sometimes, for unknown reason, my keyboard (AZERTY) changes to QWERTY, no matter what software I'm using.
I've upgraded the drivers in the configuration panel, but nothing changes.
What to do please? How could I repair it?
    Thanks.

    I have only one explanation.
You have configured the keyboard layout with two different languages.
By pressing of SHIFT + ALT the OS changes the layout language and the button assignation.
Maybe during the fast typing you have accidentally activated this key combination and the keyboard layout switched

  • Re: Sattelite M305D-S4830 Volume Dial Strange Behavior

Hello, I am having a strange issue with my volume control dial on the Satellite M305D-S4830. I am not sure when this error began happening, but now my volume control dial produces the letters C and B when I roll it clockwise/counterclockwise. here, I'll roll it cw/c-cw right now:
    ccccccccccccbccccccccccccccccccccbbccccc
It produces the b's less often than the c's as you can see. Also, it does adjust volume bar but erratically: when I roll it clockwise it decreases the volume and then sharply increases the volume immediately. Rotating it counter-clockwise does increase the volume sharply and sometimes it decreases the volume a little bit.
I have the latest drivers for my Satellite and have not altered the OS or Services (such as HID Input service) in any way. I have tried using a previous driver version for the sound but this has not changed anything. Thanks for your time.

    Hi
Someone had a similar issue. I read about this here in one of threads (if you want use the search option).
The point is that the technician has cleaned the volume wheel (contacts, etc...) and this solves this issue.
I dont know if this is a same reason in your case but its worth a try
Note; dont disassemble the notebook or similar!!! This can be done ONLY by ASP due to some hardware damage and warranty validity!
PS: Of course the BIOS update is advisable too.
