Volume drops of own accord on Ipod mini

Hi,
I am new to these forums and not the most technically knowledgeable person in the world so hope you can bear with me and someone can help me out.
I have an ipod mini, just over a year old, and have in the past few days begun experiencing a problem whereby the volume just drops of its own accord while i am listening to a song. It happens all the time, the moment i press play, I will turn the volume up to almost full and the minute i let go it drops back to no sound at all. whenever i put the volume back up the same thing happens, as if it recognises i have put the volume up but doesn't 'stick'.
I notice this happened after I put my ipod into a listening dock when i then went back to listening with headphones, however i have done this many times before and each time i put the headphones back in i just turned the volume back up and that was it.
i have tried several pairs of headphones so know it is not the headphones that are the problem.
has anyone else experienced this? is there anything i can do to fix it - or if not do you know if Apple will still do anything with ipod minis?

ITunes won't let me select my own music for iPod Mini

Every time I connect my iPod Mini, iTunes generates the following message:
"The iPod cannot be updated because there is not enough free space to hold all of the songs in iTunes music library. Would you like iTunes to automatically select a playlist for you?"
If I click the "Cancel" button, the iTunes closes my iPod mini connection. If I click "Yes", I have no control over what iTunes downloads and cannot erase and replace the songs it chooses for me.
I have already removed and downloaded the iTunes and iPod mini and Updater sofware onto my hard drive. What can I do to have more control over what iTunes puts onto my iMini???

Go into iPod preferences (while the iPod's attached) and choose "Update selected playlists" and you'll be able to pick the playlists you want on the iPod.
Or you could switch it to manual and drag the songs to the iPod icon . . .

IPod Mini -becoming extinct?

Is Apple still selling the iPod Mini? or did they pull the promo's back to clear the stage for the Nano?
I was on the apple.com site and couldn't find any information where they're selling Mini's -only refurbished ones!!!!

What does this mean for us Mini owners? Why the dramatic withdrawal? What gives? Are we being dumped?

Apple is not selling minis any more, they are not evem making them. The iPod Nano has replaced the mini.
Why the dramactic withdrawl? The Nano is so much better than the mini, in some things. In others, it's not.

Did your ipod bend of it's own accord too?

So I've had my ipod nano for about a month and it has warped and bent entirely of it's own accord. There are two 1mm paint chips on the corners which indicates that there had never been any impact. There are no scratches on the screen and the screen is intact. I've never left it in the sun or put in in the microwave. In fact I hadn't seen the now very obvious bend until the lass in the istyle shop in Abu Dhabi mall plugged it into the shop's Mac Book to reset it. It looked as though it was getting worse right before my eyes!!!!! It looked like it was melting. A new bend appeared on the back as I was discussing it with her.
They have sent it to the service centre and I'm afraid they will not replace, as they said that I must have .... I don't know hit it with a rock of kryptonite perhaps.
I have seen many discussions right here and on other forums, indicating that this is a common problem. I am an apple user, I have a Mac Book, iphone and a seven year old shuffle that has never given me any problems. I do hope that this is being addressed and that your Middle East branches are kept up to date. Otherwise it's going to be HTC and Lenovo for me forever! I have a little flash drive with headphones which I have dropped, sweated on in the gym and it keeps playing. It cost less than £10. I will stick to that if necessary, but there is no way I will buy another product that melts after a month!!!

Yours is the first post I have seen here about the Nano bending. Mine has never bent nor the one I gave to my sister. It is possible that you had a defective battery that swelled the case. The paint chips prove there has been some damage to the Nano.

Ipod mini appears as "New Volume" in itunes

After using my new ipod mini in itunes successfully, the ipod suddenly stopped appearing as "Mary's ipod" but instead is now "New Volume" and is not recognizing any songs on the mini. I can seemingly load music into the "New Volume" but this is not connected to my actual ipod as none of the new songs show up in there. I have checked that I have the latest updater and itunes, and when I got to File --> Update ipod, the latter is greyed out. Any ideas?

This is what you do to change "New Volume" back to "Mary's iPod". When "New Volume" is connected to your computer, double click on it. The cursor should appears, you should be able to backspace on your keyboard, erase "New Volume" and type in "Mary's iPod" and then press "Enter".

Dropped Ipod Mini only turns on when on hold

I dropped my Ipod Mini down the stairs of my two story house on accident. Now it wont turn on unless I have it on hold which isn't good because then I cant play any songs...because it's on hold and wont move. The instant I take it off of hold in turns off. It WILL however play songs on my Ipod Home but I can't choose what song I want to play. It will just start at the top of the songs and play A-Z. The only way I can get it to play songs on the Home is because I'm controling it from the home not the ipod...if that makes sense. So am I just S.O.L.? Should I just replace my ipod (oh ya and I've had it way past the warranty) or is there hope?

My goodness.. that's really unfortunate. But, with the drop and everything, it kind of sounds like a hardware problem rather than software. But I'm really not sure, so you might want to bring it to a store like circuit city or best buy or an apple store and ask about it.
I don't know, see what others here say before anything though, because you never know about those $50 per question policies they have at those stores.

SAME VOLUME LEVELS ON IPOD MINI...

Is there in any way transferred music from itunes to ipod be played on the same volume level?..my itunes plays it in all on the same level but when i transfer it ipod it changes...

The question is how does the iPod Mini play songs at the same volume - in other words how do you avoid having to turn the ipod up and down when playing files back as some songs will be played back louder than others.
iTunes has a facility called 'Soundcheck' which adjusts song playback levels so that all songs are the same volume. The iPod does not seem to have this facility and it can be annoying.
Any help with this issue would be appreciated

IPod mini goes into pause on its own

My iPod mini goes into pause mode on its own even though the lock is on. I have to then, unlock and press play to continue. Any idea if this is a hardware or software bug. Thanks.

I have the same problem. It is indeed the headphone connection. Sometimes I just barely touch the jack and it pauses, very inconvenient for a mobile device!!! Is there any way to cancel this stupid function? I am old enough to turn my ipod off after use and when I forget it, I will just recharge it. Excuse my sarcasm, but I hate function that are only noticed when causing problems. For now I have to get off my bike and press play everytime the cord moves a nanometer!

Dropped Ipod Mini/Screen Damaged

I dropped my Ipod Mini and the screen is partially damaged. I would like to get this repaired. I do have the Apple Protection Plan but not sure if this would be covered.
Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated.

If Apple would even repair it, they usually charge $209 plus shipping plus tax.

IPod Mini sound/volume is as soft as a mouse now

PLEASE HELP!
I have just got a replacement set of earphones sent to me by apple because the original one just stopped working all of the sudden. I noticed that my iPod mini's sound/volume is about 50% softer than when I originaly got it. I've tried using euPOD and goPOD and also the slider trick but it still doesn't take the volume back to the good old days. I know that it is probably because of the stupid new 26-03-2006 update with the volume limit on it, but i've also tried restoring the iPOD but to no avail either. I've tried everything already and nothing has worked. Does anybody know how I can get around this or I'll just have to throw my Mini in the trash and never buy anything from apple again! I also noticed that the volume slider doesn't actualy change the volume loudness until it gets past halfway.....so it doesn't actualy get softer or louder until I'm about halfway thru. I can't see why apple would want to implement such a ridiculous limit on what was essentialy a very good product.

There is a lot I don't know yet, but I definitely managed to raise the volume by cutting off the sound check and the equalizer when importing new stuff. As a test, I can now hear the words in an audiobook, although the volume is still on maximum for my iPod and car tape player. Unfortunately the old stuff still sounds too faint. (Is this iPod actually updating?)
There is a problem with my car tape player. I haven't bought a head cleaning kit yet, but plan to do so. I connected an FM transmitter and tested the sound -- it was a lot louder. (In my area, I cannot use an FM transmitter in the city because of FM interference. No empty stations. So I either need earphones or to make the tape player work. Or a new car
I don't know yet whether it's the Sound Check or Equalizer that makes the difference. I don't think I ever used Sound Enhancer.
You can raise the volume by selecting songs, going to "Get Info" and resetting the volume bar. This seems to make it louder on the Mac speakers. I cannot tell that anything is getting through to the iPod -- I simply don't hear it yet.
I don't know yet if importing when using Sound Check does anything permanent to the volume of the song. I hope not.

I recommend starting with a soft reset (pressing both home and power button until you see the apple then let go of the buttons) once you back on the home screen if you iPad still doing the same thing you may want to try a back up and restore

There is no "true" fix for liquid damage. It has been suggested by many to put your device into dry rice for about 3-4 days without trying to do anything on it....do not even power it on. Once a device has liquid damage, it is just a matter of time before it has a failure.

Unfortunately, the iPod Mini was from 2004, and only had 2 Generations. If you have an Aux out, then I'd use that, as that will work. The earliest iPod that most cars support is the 5th Gen Video.

I got an iPod mini (1st generation) last year which is compatible with windows. But have just bought a new macbook. Will mini work on the macbook, and if not is there anything i can do to make it work with the macbook?

IPod Mini messed up on the second day of owning it..

I really need some help.. I downloaded three of my CD's from iTunes into my iPod Mini yesterday (when I purchased it), and now today.. Whenever I want to play a song, I get strange static..ish noises and it skips through all the songs in the album until the last one, then it stops and goes to the main menu. I am very upset now because I paid $100 for this iPod Mini, and it screws up on the second day..
Is anyone else getting this problem? Anyone know how I can fix it? Please help.

Once again I never said it was the hold and center button. I said you toggle the hold switch (which is on top of the ipod mini) to the on position, then you switch it back to the off position. After that you hold down the center button and the menu button.

Who is wrong? Neither one of us! I now see that we are both describing the method of reseting two different types of iPods, click wheel and scroll wheel.
