/Volume/ExternalHD2/  shows actual contents of ejected external HD

I have an external firewire HD connected with 3 partitions (lets call them EXT1, EXT2 EXT3). I CCC my MacBook Pro HD (lets call it MBPHD) to EXT2. I frequently eject the external drives (EXT*) (as a group) to take away my MacBook Pro, with no problems.
After doing maintenance today, and with the EXT* NOT mounted, I noticed I lost about 10g of free space on my MBPHD. Upon revealing hidden folders and looking at sizes, I noticed /Volumes/ directory had my MBPHD alias (normal) but also had an directory with the same name as my EXT2 volume - but its not an alias - it actually has about 10g of files on it! The real EXT2 has more than 10g - so this is puzzling.
Now before I delete EXT2 under the /Volumes directory, I would like some input about this. Is it ok to delete this? Any ideas how this happened (I used a util called "Spotless 2" to turn off Spotlight search on this EXT2 partition. That's all I can think of).
Also - when I now reattach the EXT* drive, it mounts EXT1 and EXT3 normally, and shows the alias fine in the /Volumes, but EXT2 is aliased as "EXT2 1"
* Last minute update:
I think I'm getting a picture of what's going on - so maybe this isn't the right forum! I think CCC (I'm running a task right now) is copying to the /Volume folder, instead of the EXT2 drive! Oh well. Any input is greatly appreciated!
Thanks
AsiaJason

You are correct about what went wrong: when a backup fails it sometimes proceeds to write to the startup drive itself, in the /Volumes folder. With the external disconnected, open the /Volumes folder and remove anything that is NOT an alias. Then connect the external drive and verify that it mounts correctly, with the correct aliases in the /Volumes folder. Then try CCC again and see if it works. BTW, did you check their web site to make sure you have the latest version, and that it is compatible with Leopard?

  • Showing actual content in JSF page using JCR datacontrol

    Hi,
Is it possible to display the actual content from UCM as part of a JSF page using JCR datacontrols?
    Thanks,
    Anil

    Yes it is possible.
When you create a connection based on the content server connection you will find the 5 methods under the JCR Data Control.
    1.getURI.
    2.getAttrbute
    3.getItems
    4.advancedSearch
    5.search
expand the getItems drag the return on the jspx page.give the path as / only.
It will display all the folders and files under the resource.

  • Why does my exported swf show more content than actually on frame?

Why does my exported .swf show more content than actually on frame?
My problem is relatively simple, though, I had some trouble finding a solution to it:
When I play my exported animation using flash player in Google Chrome, if the window is bigger than the resolution flash document/frame, it shows content not meant to show up on the frame -- like parts of a huge background that aren't supposed to show up yet.
In other words, how do I constraint the .swf to the white background/document resolution?

Anyone? I'd appreciate it if someone replied soon -- I am done with my project once this issue is resolved, and I am excited to publish it.
Please respond if you have any useful knowledge on the matter!
    Thanks!

  • Using an external drive with shared files (iPhoto, iTunes), attached to a Time Capsule, can the contents of the external drive be backed-up to the internal Time Capsule drive? Perhaps a RAID1 mirror to a partition?

Using an external drive with shared files (iPhoto, iTunes), attached to a Time Capsule, can the contents of the external drive be backed-up to the internal Time Capsule drive? Perhaps a RAID1 mirror to a partitioned Time Capsule? I understand that the Time Machine (software) cannot backup a networked drive (the external) and that Time Capsule (the router/wireless hard drive) does not have its own backup software... so it won't backup the connected drive. What I would like is an alternate solution for having an automated backup of a networked drive. A 2TB Time Capsule has more than enough space for Time Machine backups of my family of Macbooks, so I had hoped to mirror a 500GB external drive (with shared media files) to a portion of the Time Capsule internal hard drive. I assume this would require a partition of the Time Capsule drive. If not, would the sparse file from the various computers being backed up need to be copied to the external drive as part of the RAID1 setup? This seems like overkill for the Time Machine backup, but it would cover the media files.

The complexity with this idea is the software has to run from a Mac computer on your network.. so you need a Mac turned on, probably most of the day.
It isn't possible to partition the TC although you can create a image area.
The software would have to copy the material, that means all files to be copied, go from USB drive, back to the Mac, then back to the TC, and written to the drive. In other words you have just added Network congestion, although a proper incremental backup type software will not actually use a lot of capacity.
Finally it will be slow.. network drives are slower than internal drives. Well USB connected drive is much slower than the same drive connected directly to the computer.. and if the drive is connected directly to a computer it can be shared with the network.

Read carefully the speed of the USB drive plugged into the TC.

  • "Show Package Content" organization ... or lack thereof.

I have been using iPhoto on and off again since 2004. Over the years we have updated our computer various times, so the pictures have been constantly moved around from iPhoto '04 to '06 to '08 to'09. My husband has also 'backed up' my photos by dropping them into an external hard drive. Plus, I occasionally used an old PC to store pictures, and those too were put onto the hard drive. In the end, that meant that we had over 26,000 photos, mostly duplicates, on our hard drive.
This month I finally went through all those pictures, deleted duplicates, and imported them all to iPhoto '09. I organized them by albums, and named and dated everything. (Some of the pictures were placed under the wrong date because of either camera setting problems or because they were edited in Photoshop and the saved with the editing date.)
So I just cleared my hard drive and went to move my newly organized iPhoto files to the hard drive, but I'm having issues. When I right click the iPhoto icon and select "Show Package Contents" I see all sorts of folders and junk. Frankly, I don't understand most of it. But I can see that there are pictures under the files "Data", "Data.noindex","Modified", and "Originals". The problem is this: the files aren't organized at all in there! I guess I expected them to be organized either like they were in iPhoto (the way I just did them) or like they used to be in old iPhotos (you know, with the years, then 1-12 for the months, then the numbers for the days, etc.) Instead, they are organized under the old dates, folders with one picture will not have any other pictures that were taken at the same time, pictures that I deleted will show up, etc. (And yes, I did empty the iPhoto trash.) I'm just wondering where on earth the organization is, and if I can trust that everything is in there when I move it to my hard drive.

What if I decide in the future that I don't want to use iPhoto? Or what if I want to burn all these files onto a cd for others to use that don't have iPhoto?
Simply select the photo(s) in iPhoto and export (file menu ==> export) and use the photos however you want - quick and simple - your photos are always available for any use
Do I have to save all the files externally as well so that the pictures are actually organized outside of iPhoto?
You can but it is a waste of time and disk IMHO since they are always readily available as describe above

  • My iPod touch shows no content for music and/or videos or downloaded apps after I upgraded to IOS v5.1.1

I downloaded the latest version of ios for my iPod Touch (v5.1.1) and my music, videos, books, and purchased apps don't appear.  In the settings it shows I've only got 9.1 GB of space available out of 28.4 GB (my iPod is a 32 GB).  Also, on the iTunes summary page for my iPod the usage bar at the lower portion of the page is all yellow showing 'other' when it use to be multi-color showing what content (apps, video, music, etc) was using up the capacity individually.  When I click on the device icon (left side of the window) it indicates all of my music, apps, video, books, etc are on the iPod but they don't show up on the actual device.  Also, the sync button (lower right on the summary page) is "greyed out" and won't let me sync.  Thanks in advance.  Terry

An "other" that large usually indicates that the "other" included corrupted files.  Usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.

  • How do I transfer all my iPhoto contents from my external hard drive back to my MacBookPro iPhoto?

My MacBook Pro recently had to have it's software cleared completely by a genius at the apple store. I purchased an external hard drive to save all of my documents and photos safely on so I would not lose them. I now am having difficulty reloading all of my iPhoto contents back onto my laptop from my external hard drive. Has anyone else experienced this? Will my iPhoto library go back to it's original appearance with all of the special albums I had made and the way in which I organized my photos and videos? How do I find what folders my photos were saved on my external hard drive to drag back onto my laptops iPhoto library?

iPhoto stores it's pictures in the Pictures/iPhoto Library, so if you have this backed up on a external drive, then it's a simple matter of replacing the new iPhoto Library (free of anything) with the copy of the older one on the external drive and running iPhoto.
If you have some items in the new iPhoto Library you can export them to the Desktop until the old one is replaced and then reimport them. Also another mehtod is to right click on the iPhoto Library and "Show Package Contents" inside is a folder called "Originals" which contain your files.
If you replaced the files and iPhoto doesn't open up, then reset it.
    iPhoto rebuild database:   https://support.apple.com/kb/HT2638
You might want to consider not having your movies in iPhoto, it's not designed to handle too much, in fact 10,000 pictures of mine seem to overload it.
You can keep seperate iPhoto Libraries, use the option key held at launching of iPhoto to select another iPhoto Library.

  • Front Row Shows Deleted Content

I recently moved all of my content from my Powerbook to my iMac. I had deleted many things before even starting the process.
The other day, I was in Front Row and noticed that many of the movies in the Movies section were previously deleted. Why are they still showing up? They are inactive, and show "no content found" error messages.
FYI, I checked other posts of similar types. These files are not iTunes movies and never were cataloged as such.
How do I delete them from the list and out of my life?
    thanks.
    benson

Yep, same here -- this happened after a Time Machine restore after I had to replace an external drive that I kept my iTunes library on. I didn't have my podcasts backed up (naturally) so the iTunes library file still had all of the old podcast entries even though the files no longer existed.
However, since then, I have pruned and updated all of the podcasts sources so they are empty/list only the files that are on disk. But Front Row lists them all, as they were before the crash and the subsequent editing! (And accessing them gives me the "No content found" error, too.)
So yes, I'm ALSO looking for a way to reset Front Row and have it refresh to show the same list that I can see in iTunes.

  • Showing HTML content in jspx page

    Hi,
We have stored text/html email messages in database and we want to display this on our page.
I tried with af:richTextEditor its not showing actual space & font. Few extra line breaks are added.
I tried af:outputText with escape=false it looks perfect. But all the menu items, command links, tab header label are started showing underlines and the UI looks odd. When I check the documentation it says
"In addition, nearly all attributes are ignored when "escape" is set to false"
I believe this is the reason the UI is showing odd.
All I need is just to show a html content inside a panelGroupLayout. Any suggestions?
    Thiru

    Hi,
here's what I think works best:
    1. add an ADF Faces inlineFrame component to the page
    2. Have the inlineFrame source property pointing to a servlet that reads and streams the HTML from the database as an HTML document

  • Cannot eject external devices from Macbook Air.

For the past few months I have been unable to eject external drives, and volumes from my Air. I click on the eject (pyramid) icon, and nothing happens 100% of the time. I need to go to disk utility to be able to eject. Rather annoying.
Does anyone have a suggestion, and hopefully something less drastic than a complete os reinstall?

Hi, an example if this behaviour for me is when iTunes is running and playing music from my NAS, it will not allow ejection of that share. This might be the same with cable-connected external drives. Try making sure that any app that uses files on the drive is shut down and then retry the eject from Finder.

  • Show Package Content option not available in Ctrl+click

    Hi,
I just installed Mozilla's Thunderbird email SW (v. 1.5.0.5) and I'm trying to import the mail I had accumulated previously in Mail 2.1 (this is under OS X Tiger 10.4.7, sadly running on a pretty old G4 400 MHz, AGP Graphics). The instructions from Mozilla seem pretty simple:
    <<How do I import e-mail messages from mail.app (MacOS X)?
Go to ~/Library/Mail/ and root out the .mbox files in the finder. These are actually OSX packages. Select Show Package Contents and a new window will open revealing several files including a file named mbox. Copy that file to the subfolder called Local Folders in the folder Mail in your profile folder and rename it to something meaningful. This process needs to be done for each of your mailboxes. Finally start Thunderbird to see the new mail folders.>
Well, I'm also a recent convert to OS X ('twas about time! I was still running OS 9.2.2 less than a month ago!), so I had never heard of "Show Package Contents". It seems that I should be able to see this in the contextual menu when I Ctrl+click (or right-click; I have a multi-button mouse) on the object (the *.mbox folder in this case). But my contextual menu has no such option.
    Any ideas?
    Louis

Hmm... They do look like folders, don't they? Perhaps they were thinking of an earlier release of OS X...
Anyway, what you describe is close but not exactly what I see. Let me describe to make sure the situation is clear: I am in home>Library>Mail>Mailboxes. Inside this, I have a set of *.mbox "folders", each of which contains only two items: an "info.plist" file and a "Messages" folder. The "Messages" folders (within each *.mbox folder) contain individual messages with the .emlx extension.
So the *.mbox "folders" contain no mbox file that I can grab and move (and no index, content.index, of table of contents that you mention). Perhaps these are "hidden"? But I can't find an option anywhere to "Show hidden files".
    Ideas?

  • Event shows wrong content in preview

When I run the cursor over the events in iPhoto the preview shows completely different photo's than the actual content (the photo's which are in the event folder when you open it). How can I solve this problem?

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to rebuild the thumbnails. It can take 3 or 4 goes for this to work

  • How do I undo "Show package content"?

I imported a ACVHD file to my mac and select to "Show package content". Now the video files wont import to Final Cut Pro X because it's not seeing the index file (which I have). How do I undo "show package content" or re-package the files? I'm on Mac 10.8. Thanks!
    Amalia

I just wanted to make sure all the video files were there before I deleted them off the flashcard in the camera. Didn't know it would cause a problem until now when I'm trying to import everything to from my external hard drive to final cut pro... :-\ Is viewing packge content an irriversable thing? I just assumed there would be a hide content option since there was a show contnet option but clearly wasn't the case. I did not move or delete any files. The index file is clearly there as well as the mts files and cpi files...
Here's  ascreen shot of the file structure. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

  • How do I move 10.10.1 picture folder contents to an external drive?

I have recently changed to mac mini and would like to move my picture folder contents to an external drive. Is there a correct way to do this beside just dragging and dropping?

Dragging and dropping is enough. If you’re moving an iPhoto library, the volume you’re putting it onto needs to be formatted as Mac OS Extended, and you need to launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and choose that library.

  • Safely eject external hard drive

Anyone know of a good way to safely eject external hard drives shared over a network with a Time Capsule? It seems to me like you'd need to unplug the Time Capsule,  as that is the only way to power it off, before disconnecting an external hard drive. This interrupts the network connection at home, though, so if there's some way to do this in Finder on a connected Mac, I'd like to know!

Sorry but I am a bit unclear..
The drive is plugged into a Mac and the share is from this Mac to the network?? Or is the external drive plugged into the Time Capsule?
You should be able to eject the hard disk if mounted simply by clicking the arrow in the normal way. That will not stop it showing up in the client computer.. simply dismount it when mounted. As a network shared disk.. the share will still be active..
To dismount the disk from the computer it is shared on, will have to be done from that computer.
Unless you use Remote Access of some sort to take over the local computer you really cannot control shares that are offered from another computer.
I am not sure I have answered your question though.
What are you trying to achieve.
