Volume icon no longer excepts scroll wheel...

Can any one else verify that the volume control icon no longer responds to the mouse scroll wheel?
In 10.5 it was possible to use the mouse scroll wheel over top the icon or the scroll control itself. In 10.6 it can only be done over the scroll control. The up and down arrow keys continue to work over the icon or scroll control.

This is very clearly a change they've made in 10.6. Doesn't matter what mouse I use - the scroll wheel now DOES NOT affect the volume if you simply click the volume icon once and simply roll up and down. You must now move your mouse DOWN somewhere onto the actual slider to enable the volume to be controlled by the wheel.
Not sure why it was done this way, but Apple: please change it back! I know it might seem trivial but it is an issue for those who want to adjust quickly but my job requires me to adjust the master volume about 75 times/day and the little movement of putting my mouse down onto the actual slider adds up to a lot of lost time.
If anyone has found a workaround to this please let me know.

  • Volume Icons No Longer In Top Right Corner

A short time ago (about the time I upgraded to OS 10.4.9 from 10.4.8, but I can't say that it was exactly then) I noticed that the desktop icons for my two HDD volumes moved. They no longer automatically set themselves up in the top right hand corner.
The boot volume is still on top of the vertical list, but the icons are now about a third of the way down the screen. They stay there no matter what I do and return to there if I move them and restart. I've tried every adjustment related to desktop that I could find and nothing affects this condition. Mac Help is useless for this issue.
Any ideas what is going on and how to correct it?
    Carl B.

Well I think I've solved the problem. I became suspusious of a couple of folder alias and Word file alias icons that were very near the menu bar and right next to where the HDD icons should always appear, so I moved them far down and to the left. I then manually positioned the HDD icons to their correct position and loaded a CD. The CD icon was properly positioned automatically and I fine tuned the positions of the two HDD icons. I then restarted my Mac.
Upon restart, all the volume icons appeared in there proper place. I ejected the CD and again restarted. Upon the second restart, the two HDD icons remained in their proper place. I think the problem was the folder alias icons being "in the HDD icons space".

  • XFCE's mixer plugin stops at 90% when using scroll wheel over icon

Yeah, title says it.  By putting the cursor over the icon and using the scroll wheel, the volume goes up to 90%.  But when I open the mixer and drag the master slider, it goes to 100%.  How do I fix this?

Had the same Problem, was really annoying me. Probably a baaad baad bad workaround:
    in src/xfce4-mixer-4.6.0/panel-plugin (ABS / xfce4-mixer)
    changed xfce-volume-button.c, line 204 & 205:
/* Create adjustment for the button (from 0.0 to 1.0 in 5% steps) */
    button->adjustment = gtk_adjustment_new (0.0, 0.0, 1.0, 0.05, 0.05, 0.1);
    to
/* Create adjustment for the button (from 0.0 to 1.0 in 5% steps) */
    button->adjustment = gtk_adjustment_new (0.0, 0.0, 1.1, 0.05, 0.05, 0.1);
    rebuild, done.
I've been searching for a while for the real problem, but I'm no programmer. Looks as if somewhere someone perhaps startet counting at 1% instead of 0% or something, but I've got no idea where.
(useless EDIT: Seems as if someone already fixed it in the newest version available in ABS since I changed it on my machine. Wait, trying...
EDIT: Nope, still only works up to 90% in current ABS version I think - might have just forgotten to re-extract the source of the panel after update. Redoing the "bad fix" got it to 100% again though.)

  • Scroll Wheel no longer works in version 4.4 RC

My scroll wheel no longer works after installing Lightroom 4.4. In all previous versions, I was able to use my Logitech scroll device to adjust the sliders in the development panel.  In the 4.4 version, the scroll wheel no longer works and instead of adjusting an individual slider, it scrolls the whole development panel up and down. I did uninstall the mouse driver and reinstalled but that did not work. The mouse works just fine in all other programs. I think it is a bug with the 4.4 version. I am operating in Windows 7. Any suggestions for a fix?

  • Audio volume and mouse scroll wheel-WMM inferior to 3rd party?

Whenever I can't use my Wireless Mighty Mouse (maybe I forgot it at home etc.) I try to use other mice lying around from bygone eras.
When I end up using a 3rd party bluetooth mouse, say a Kensington, or even a Microsoft, I notice that I can click on the Volume menulet on the menu bar at the top right of my OS screen, and with the volume bar expanded downwards I can then use the scroll wheel to adjust the volume.
When I use the Apple mouse and its scroll ball nothing happens. I have to actually click and drag the volume slider, a much more precision demanding exercise.
What gives? How come the mouse driver for a Kensington/Microsoft allows something the Apple's own seems to ignore? Is there some Terminal tweak I could do to enable this behavior on the WMM?
    Many thanks, as always, people.

the mouse works fine doing all the other things. well, i dunno, how changing USB would make any difference. Though I did try that, with no effect.
    i have a PS/2 mouse & keyboard connected with a PS/2-USB adapter.
And *sometimes the scroll wheel does work*, & then suddenly stops doing what its supposed to do!!??

  • Bug: scrolling with mouse scroll wheel while dragging tracks no longer works

After upgrading to Spotify for Mac 1.0.2.6, I can no longer use my mouse's scroll wheel while dragging tracks to a different position in a playlist. It will not scroll.

  • Scroll Wheel button no longer activates the Dashboard

    Hi,
Just recently my scroll wheel button (a.k.a, The middle mouse button) stopped activating the dashboard when I pressed it and started activating a Windows like scroll function where moving my mouse up would scroll up and moving my mouse down would scroll down. The System Preferences still recognize the Scroll wheel button as being bound to the Dashboard. Any help would be much appreciated,
    Thanks.

I have the same problem with a nearly new Mighty Mouse. The problem started after I noticed a system slowdown and Activity Monitor showed the Flight Schedule Widget was using 40% of the CPU. I did a force quit on the widget and that triggered a kernel panic.
Since then clicking on the scroll ball on the Mighty Mouse no longer brings up Dashboard.
I've run the latest DiskWarrior, fixed permissions, purged caches, restarted, etc. and can't seem to fix the problem. I've also tried a second Mighty Mouse and that does not resolve the issue.

  • Scroll Wheel no longer works. Please Help !

About a month ago, my scroll wheel suddenly just stopped working. I now have very limited use of it. For example, I cannot scroll through my song list, because it takes about 5 minutes of constantly trying to scroll, for it to move down one song. The only way I can listen to music,if to have it on shuffle.
Please help me! Its driving me up the wall.

It sounds like a job for service, but if you're confident/have a technically able friend you could see if the connector is dirty/has come loose.
I posted this a few threads down:
Ok, this is a potentially easy fix for the confident.
BEFORE DOING ANY WORK ON AN IPOD, ENSURE THAT YOU'VE SWITCHED IT OFF (HOLD PLAY) AND PUT IT ON HOLD.
Go get a small jeweller's flat-headed screwdriver (~2-3mm wide), and gently pry away the white bit from the case. Inside there should be a metal bracket. Using the screwdriver, ease away the metal bracket from all four corners, trying not to bend the bracket. Be careful, they have a tendency to spring free. Once you've removed this, with your mini face up there is a brown plug connector (big square of silicone. Gently remove that with the screwdriver, ensure that it's relatively clean, and push it home. Reassemble the iPod, and let me know how you get on.
It sounds less likely in your case than the other, since he 'd said that he'd dropped it, but it's worth a try if it's outside the warranty.

  • Scroll Wheel No Longer Zooms

After an update to Photoshop 13.1.6 x64, the scroll wheel on my mouse quit working as a zoom tool.

What operating system are you using?
Do you have Zoom with Scroll Wheel checked in the photoshop>General preferences?

  • Dashboard Access & Scroll Wheel

I used to be able to call up Dashboard by depressing the mouse scroll wheel. This procedure no longer works. Any idea as to what may have happened?
The Dashboard, however, remains accessible via Dock icon.

    Yes, check in two places....
System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > set the scroll wheel to Dashboard.
    AND
System Preferences > Exposé & Spaces > Dashboard > set Hide and Show to Mouse Button 3. You can also assign Dashboard to an F-key here.

Got it working myself after surfing for a way to fix it, so I figured I should post what I did in case anyone else needs the advice in the future.
I restarted it by holding down the Menu and Select buttons, and once it came back on, hey-presto! Very happy

  • IPod 1st Gen (Scroll wheel) not recognized by iTunes

iPod 1st Gen (with scroll wheel) will not connect to iTunes 12.1 on MacBookPro.  Charging when I plug it in, want to add music to it, but iTunes will not recognize it.  Anyone have any suggestions or does anyone know if this iPod is no longer supported by iTunes?

  • Why can't I use the scroll wheel in Photoshop CC 2014?

    Hi,
I have Photoshop CC 2014 on my laptop. It was working perfectly but then I had to reinstall Windows. Once I had reinstalled Windows and Photoshop I discovered that I could no longer use the scroll wheel on my mouse to move around documents in Photoshop. I can't scroll up to move the document up, scroll down to move the document down, use Alt+Scroll to zoom in/out or use Shift+Scroll to move left/right.
I've looked in the options and the option to use the scroll wheel to zoom is enabled - still not working.
Any ideas? Tried Googling but can't really find any solutions.
    Thanks all!

I'm having the same issue. Scroll wheel works fine in all Adobe products besides Photoshop. I've tried reinstalling Photoshop, plugging in the mouse to a different USB port, reinstalling the mouse driver, and restarting my computer multiple times. This bug makes Photoshop practically useless, as everything takes about twice as long to get done.
I really hope we get a fix for this soon. So far CC has been a huge disappointment, filled with small, productivity-destroying bugs like this one.

  • Is there a way to make the scroll wheel move up and down instantly like you could with previous versions, instead of moving slowly up and down?

I've only recently updated my firefox to v 15.0.1 after using v 10 for so long, and I was wondering if there is a way to make the scroll wheel move up and down instantly without having it slowly crawl to it's spot?

    you can disable smooth scrolling.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General: Browsing: "Use smooth scrolling"
