Volume inaudible through airport express

Playing iTunes library through an airport express connected to stereo set up is virtually inaudible. I have to max the amp volume to hear a tinny output through Bose home speakers. I had the setup working about 18 months ago, but something changed overnight, and even replacing the airport express has not rectified the sudden volume reduction. I've tried a PRAM reset.
Any thoughts? I am desperate!

Hi I have solved the problem for my Ipod touch to switch from ipod to hifi set up through Airport Express
I was unaware that to switch while in itunes playlist that I need to swipe from the bottom upwards which then presented a menu and there was my logo to switch from ipod to hifi. Simple is't it.
Thanks for your help.

  • No colors when printing through AirPort Express?

I knew I couldn't use all the features (e.g. scanning) of my HP all-in-one printer F2180 through AirPort Express instead of USB. But is it normal I can't print in colors? Can it be fixed?

I am having the same problem. I am running an AirPort Extreme to a HP Deskjet F4180.
I spent two weeks on the phone and email with HP and they finally told me that it was a problem with Apple.
I just got off the phone with Apple support and they told me it is a driver issue which they have no control over. They told me to see if somebody in this forum had a work around or to search the web for a generic driver that "may" fix the problem.
If I find an answer I will let you know.
    Good luck!!

  • Can't connect to internet through Airport Express anymore

Suddenly, my PowerBook can't connect to the internet through Airport Express. Monday late afternoon--everything was fine. Put it in sleep, come back a few hours later, can't connect.
Thing is, Airport/wireless is working. Can stream audio to my home stereo.
And the DSL/modem are working. If I connect the machine via ethernet directly, I'm online.
Saw that some other users began having problems with USB/printer connections Monday. Could my problem be related?
    What gives?
    Any ideas?

Hello mnkyby. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
It sounds like your AirPort Express Base Station (AX) in not getting a proper IP address from your modem.
    Try this ...
o Connect to the AX's wireless network, and then, run the AirPort Admin Utility.
o Go to the Internet tab.
o Note the value for IP address. (Note: Do not list it here on the forum, just note what it is.)
o Is the IP address what you would expect from your ISP or is it something like: 196.254.x.x?
If the latter, try the following ...
    Modem/Router Power Recycling - Quick
    o Power-off the DSL/Cable modem, AX, & computer(s); Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the DSL/Cable modem; Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the AX; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
If this fails to get the modem to "recognize" the Internet router, then try the "Full" version.
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling - Full
o Power-off the DSL/Cable modem, AX, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
o Power-on the DSL/Cable modem; Wait at least 15 minutes.
o Power-on the AX; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)

No, you cannot seperate the audio and video stream.
You can use optical audio to a sound system (I use sony sound bar) and play the audio via that.

  • Can not ajust volume down on airport express

    Hi there!
I have a problem. My iPhone and iPad kan not turn down volume on my AirPort Express, connected to both, active speakers and/or headphones!
    Please help me!?
    Regards Johnny

You don't provide a lot of details on exactly where things aren't working. However it sounds like it could be a DNS issue. Take a look at 'Mac OS: Troubleshooting "A connection failure has occurred", "The specified server could not be found" or Similar Messages'.

  • Is there a way to play my macs computer audio through airport express?

I have a stereo receiver that only plays through the auxillary port, and i have been using airport express to play my music and movies in itunes through it. Some of my other movies however are neither in itunes or playable through itunes. Is there a way to send the computer's audio output (not just itunes) through airport express and thus into the stereo receiver? Much help would be appreciated, thanks!

    Try using Airfoil.

  • ITunes not playing/connecting through Airport Express

Whenever I try to play a track in iTunes wirelessly through my Airport express iTunes always returns the error: "An error occured while connecting to the remote speaker "AirPort Express" The network connection failed".
I can't work out what's wrong because the Airport light is green and connected to my router perfectly, there are no errors in the Airport utility and I can print wirelessly to the printer connected to the Airport using the Bonjour setup.
I have Windows 7 and the latest versions of all software and firmware installed. Turning off Windows firewall makes no difference so it can't be that. I have tried everything I can possibly think of and have gottem nowhere. Please help!

iTunes does recognize presence of Airport Express (named "Stereo Cabinet").
However, when I select "Stereo Cabinet" in the pulldown menu, all I get is reduced volume output through my computer speakers... not through the stereo system hooked up the to the Airport Express.
I've had this problem for months... posted here some time ago, but got no response.
I am running 10.6.2 on an Intel Core duo Macbook laptop. This function used to work just fine, and I can't figure out why it no longer does. I think I had the same trouble under 10.5... but my attempts to figure it out were only sporadic (busy life, you know?).
    Can anyone help?

sorry if i ask the obvious but have you enabled airtunes like so ?

  • After iTunes update, cannot play through Airport Express

I've had this problem a few times.
You've updated iTunes and you can see your remote speaker(s) within the program, but when you attempt to stream to them, you'll get an error saying that there was a probelm connecting to your remote speakers. No amount of resetting or reconfiguring your Airports will fix it. Don't waste your time doing that.
A good check to show that your network \ airport is healthy, is if you have an iPod Touch you can stream right from there to your Airport Express. That will let you know that the problem lies somewhere on your computer.
You are most likely having this problem because of the Windows Firewall. A quick check is to disable your Windows Firewall, then launch iTunes and try to stream. If that works, you've found your problem. Reenable your firewall.
.....But wait. I checked my allowable programs, and iTunes.exe is allowed to pass? What gives? Well, the firewall is trying to make the console simple, and only lists the program as itunes.exe. Apparently, the firewall is looking at much more than just the process ID of itunes.exe. When the rule was set up, it likely also identified the allowable process by noting the time\date stamp or a hash of the file. During your upgrade, the filename stays the same, but the rest changes, and the windows firewall won't allow it to pass.
To fix this, delete the existing rule allowing itunes.exe to pass. Once that's done, you can recreate the rule using your new itunes.exe file. Now that it's allowing your new .exe to pass through the firewall, you can now play to your remote speakers again. Yeah, you don't HAVE to delete the old one, but it's a lot cleaner. If you don't delete the old, you won't know which is the "good" one if you ever have to troubleshoot at a later date.
I hope this helps. It drove me a touch nuts for a bit until I realized what was going on. Now it's part of my routine whenever I update iTunes.

  • Syncing iphone and computer through Airport Express?

    Hi,
I have a 3G iPhone, a MacBook Pro and an Airport Express. I was wondering if I could sync my calendar and contacts through the airport express (wirelessly) instead of actually connecting the the two by USB cable? I can control iTunes via my iPhone so I should also be able to get them syncing stuff like iCal and Contacts na?
    thanks

I forgot to mention my limited knowledge of iphone technology - so I have no clue what your answer means.  I literally need someone to walk me through this step by step.

  • Trouble getting internet through Airport Express

I am trying to set up the most basic wireless network with a cable modem, Airport Express and G4 Powerbook running 10.4.6. I have went through all the steps of setting up the modem then the Airport Express and configuring it with Airport Admin. and all that. I get perfect signal from the express but when I open Safari it doesn't do anything. It doesn't come up with the network diagnostic "Not Connected to the Internet" screen or anything. When I plug my modem directly into the Powerbook through ethernet it works fine.
It seems as though I am just missing a step or an option or something like that.
I have also tried to use my roomates old Motorola WA480G wireless router with similar results. I can get Wi-Fi signal through the Airport card but Safari brings up the network diagnostic screen.
    G4 Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)
    G4 Powerbook

I am having this exact same problem, only using a Dell laptop with Windows XP instead of a Mac. I had my Airport Express set up on a LAN at work a couple of months ago and it worked perfectly. It's been in storage for a couple of months, and now that I am trying to set it up at home with my cable modem, I can't get it to connect to the internet.
When I plug the modem in with an ethernet cable everything works perfectly. But when I plug it into the airport (after doing the power down/power up process) the LED goes solid green, but nothing will load in my browser. I can use other wireless networks without problem.
I also can't get it to print anymore. When I plug the printer directly into my computer it prints just fine. But when I plug it into the airport, it won't print. I've set the printer up using Bonjour, and the Airport Admin utility detects the printer. But when I print I get an error message saying that the printer failed to print the document.
    Any ideas?

  • Apple Tv can't connect to iTunes when on same network through Airport Express

    Hello All,
Its very rare i need to resort to the community for help but this one has me in a corner.
I have a 2013 Airport Time Capsule (3TB not that it matters), and a 2nd Gen Airport Express, and 2 Apple TV's (3rd gens).
Time capsule in basement of a large home. I can connect to the time capsule with iPhone 6, 4s, iPad 4, macbook air (2013 model), MBP (2012), mostly without issue however from time to time the signal gets kind of weak and cuts off occasionally from the iPad. Slows down a bit for the phones also. Not a huge deal, this is why I bought the airport express.
The Apple TV's are in two bedrooms beside each other on the 2nd floor in my home (office and bedroom). The Airport Express i've tried in 3 different areas of the house (1- Main floor of home on top of fridge in kitchen, roughly 20 feet away from the time capsule through the floor, 2- Main floor at bottom of stairs heading up to 2nd floor and almost line of sight to doorways of the two bedrooms also 20 feet away from the time cause through the floor, 3- 2nd floor hardwired directly to one apple tv (2nd apple tv through double layer of drywall and 10 feet away.)
In any of these locations the Apple TV's randomly get this issue where they do not see my Mac Mini which is hardwired to the time capsule, and running iTunes with all my movies shows and music of course. It gives me an error "Apple TV cannot connect to (name of library) as it may not be on the same network, please ensure iTunes is updated to the most recent version, and ensure you have the latest updates for your apple tv."
On my MBP I was running Yosemite Dev Beta 8, which is fine if that doesn't work, but it did and still had this random issue.
On my Mac Mini i was still running Mavericks with current iTunes (11.4 i believe, now 12 beta).
I unplugged my airport Express from power, now everything is connecting to my time capsule and apple tv's stream fine mostly, however there are slow buffering issues and occasional wifi disconnects just due to 2 floors in-between and quite a distance also, among multiple wireless devices using the network.
My questions are (yea yea a novel i know),
1- If the airport express doesn't see any data going through it for a while, does it go into a sleep mode which might be causing this "iTunes not found" issue even though other devices are still able to see my shared library on my network?
2- If yes to above - how can i shut that off?
3- If no, then why is this happening?
Mac Mini specs, i5 2.5ghz, 16 gb ram, 120gb ssd, 500 gb hdd, 2 TB External USB 3 hdd, ethernet hardwired to time capsule.
Air Port Express is in extended network mode synced to the Time Capsule.
Other devices will connect fine to my iTunes library when the apple tv's will not.
    Any help appreciated! Thanks!

I have seen suggestions that bonjour goes into sleep mode.. but Apple offers no info and no controls so whether it does or not is irrelevant.
I am not clear what Time Capsule you have.. 2013 was the change over.. so is it AC tall one.. or previous model, flat one. The picture in the airport utility will show you.
Extend wireless is always a poor way to do things.. can you run some ethernet cabling to a point on the first floor where you could plug in an express.. if so that is the ideal.. if no, then using EOP (homeplug) adapters might work,, but they are not 100% guaranteed to work so make sure you know the return policy.
My experience is with the one extend wireless link that i do have .. it is fragile. Mostly it works.. but i have spent a deal of time making it work.
eg.. I use short names and different names for both bands.. so i can force the connection.. I set fixed channels.. I use the right firmware.. even so at certain times.. (full moon, strong North Wind.. you know typical wireless).. it will decide it won't work.
NOTE.. only airport utility v5 is of use to show link speeds and how things are going.. v6 airport utility (toyland fisher price version) has link status as poor, good or excellent.. which is to say the least.. uninformative.
so here is the link in v6 ..
    It says.. good.. yeah.. !!
And here is the info in v5 utility. It has a workmen utility feel to it with piles of info.
The link between the two routers is the top of the listing.. and tells me it is linked at 5ghz and is running at 60Mbps at both ends..
By trial and error I have found left to its own devices it will connect on 2.4ghz and will join at 6Mbps when it starts dropping out.. so by taking full manual control I can produce reasonable link speed and reasonable stability.. and in v5 utility I can tell what is going on.. none of this is easy or like it should work out of the box.

  • Wireless printing through Airport Express stops after a few pages

I have a Canon MP780, which I tried hooking up to my Airport Express USB. Installation seemed to work smoothly with the Airport Utility, and it printed a test page just fine. However, when I printed a longer document, something kacked after a few pages (a communications error).
Hooking it up is a hassle (have to go through a wall to get to the AE/DSL modem setup), and I ripped it apart after upgrading the canon drivers to no avail. I'll try it again to get the exact error messages if there's more than a snowballs chance in hades that this might work, but thought I'd at least find out if it's hopeless or not before throwing more time at this.
    Any help's appreciated... many thanks.

There has been similar posts on this forum regarding wireless stability. A few have indicated that there printing was fine until the recent Airport Client Update 2009-002. If you check your System Prefs > Software Update > Installed Software list, have you also run this update?

  • Cannot connect to remote speakers through Airport Express

Please help me! Please for the love of the mac guy on tv who encouraged me to switch.
I've been a happy mac user. I am not all that technically saavy and hence switched to a mac because "it just works." I bought the airport express and hooked it up through my WIRED network so that I could play tunes on my stereo from iTunes. Things have worked amazing and have had no problems until now. I don't even have the option now to look at remote speakers.
I know this is a common problem. This issue was even posted on Engadget for crying out loud. I've been reading these forums for the better part of the day trying things and I think I've actually made things worse.
I've resetted my airport express (now my iMac can't even find it). The AE still works though because my work computer can still see it and hook up to the internet through it. I've enabled IPv6 and have disabled IPv6 (have seen some conflicting information on that). I've went into the firewall settings and even added a port (5353) from another post I read. I've checked and double checked my iTunes settings and the option to check for remote speakers is on. I believe all of this happened since my iTunes was upgraded to the latest. For a computer that is supposed to just work, well, it just stopped working (the one issue).
I don't know if it shows, but I have an iMac G5 with OS 10.3.9. I know that's kind of old now, but the computer has been doing everything I've needed it to do. I like it. I just want this to work. So, I am begging anyone with any knowledge to pleeeeease help me out. Don't crucify me for not reading the other discussions. I have. I put in a great effort. Now again, I plead, help me - even if it takes a back and forth effort for a while. I thank all in advance for trying.

That's the other thing, AirPort setup assistant doesn't allow me to get very far. I get to the introduction page and click continue to begin. Then I get an error message saying I have no AirPort card installed (which is true, but not necessary because I'm on a wired network to get to the airport express base station).
Unfortunately, the AirPort Setup Assistant requires a wireless connection to work so the error you are getting when using it would be normal. Your options would be to use the AirPort Admin Utility or use the newer AirPort Utility on the Dell to administer your 802.11g AirPort Express Base Station (AX). The latest version of this newer utility can be downloaded from here: AirPort Utility Setup 5.3.2 for Windows
If I click New then an error message pops up saing No new AirPort networks were found. Click continue to scan again. I can keep doing this with the same result.
When having difficulties accessing the base station from the AirPort Admin Utility, try the following:
o Make sure that you connect to the wireless network, created by the AX, before you attempt to access it with the utility. The default Network Name (or SSID) will be something like Apple Network xxxxxx, where the x's are the last six digits of the base station's AirPort ID.
o If the utility still doesn't find the base station, try temporarily connecting your computer directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, try accessing it again.
o If the utility still can't find it, the I suggest that you perform a "factory default" reset on the AX. Note: You may have to try this several times, but be sure that you get the rapid flashing status light to verify that the reset took. After successfully resetting the AX, and while still connected by Ethernet, try to access it with the AirPort Admin Utility again.

  • Can't print from PC notebook through Airport Express

I am using a Sony Vaio notebook running Windows XP. I just purchased an Airport Express along with a PowerBook G4 and have my HP DeskJet 5650 connected through the Airport Express. My PowerBook is having no trouble communicating with the printer, but my PC notebook cannot "find" the printer. In talking to Apple Support on this issue, I was told to download Bonjour for Windows, which I did. Once Bonjour was installed, I was still unable to "find" the printer and, additionally, I began receiving an error message stating "The application has failed to start because dnssd.dll was not found." I reinstalled Bonjour to be safe, but the problem continued. Apple Support then suggested I set up an IP print share as an alternative solution, but that ultimately failed to work because my specific HP printer model is not listed. Strangely, and maybe the bigger issue as I attempted to set up the IP print share, when I entered my IP address as 10.0.1.1 which named the port IP_10.0.1.1, it told me the port name was already in use and wouldn't let me continue.
I'm confused and frustrated. Apple Support was as helpful as they could be, but have thrown in the towel and deemed this problem outside the scope of their support.
    Can anyone please help?

    Thanks, iFelix...
Unfortunately, I've tried all three methods and am still not able to bring my printer onboard.
Using the first method above, first of all, when I attempt to create a new TCP/IP port and enter 10.0.1.1 as the IP address, which then turns the port name into IP_10.0.1.1, I receive a message that the port name is already in use. When I attempt to go with "Use the following port:" and select the IP_10.0.1.1 port, I am unable to locate my printer on the list. When I attempted to get around that by using the third method above, it allowed me to go through the process having chosen another HP DeskJet "stand-in" printer, but when it came to the end of the process and I asked it to print a test page, it failed to work. I even attempted to get around the issue by selecting the "Have Disk" option in the printer window, put my printer driver disk in, and was still unable to get it to recognize my printer.
With method number two, Bonjour continues to not be able to sense my printer.
In case I didn't make this clear earlier, this PC notebook has never had any problem printing to the printer when it was connected directly by USB, the problem is only now a result of having connected the printer to the Airport Express.
If you have any other advice or suggestions, I'd appreciate it more than you can imagine.
