"Volume is Locked" messages when Palm syncs

After repairing permissions and deleting logs and caches (with Onyx) and verifying preferences (with Preferential Treatment which found no errors), I am now getting "Volume is Locked" popups while I am syncing my Palm. The only new element in my mix is Preferential Treatment (which didn't execute anything as far as I know), so I'm trying to figure out what has happened and how I can fix it.
I did try to apply permissions to my hard drive ("Apply to enclosed items"), but I got an error code -36 "the finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "Macintosh HD" could not be read or written."
Any ideas?

To repeat, here's what I did to remedy that situation:
While logged in to my admin account:
1. Used NetInfo Manager to set the GID of my non-admin accounts to match the GID (501) of my admin account. I did this both in the Users section as well as in the Groups section of NetInfo Manager.
2. "Get Info" on Applications folder; Owner is set to "system" -- I didn't change that; changed Group to my admin account name; and Group Access to "Read & Write"; applied to enclosed items.
(I presume this will need to be repeated after running a repair permissions routine.)
I'm not sure if that was the right thing to do, but it worked. No more "Volume is Locked" error, but synching usually fails partway through with no error message. I'm considering this a separate issue from the "Volume is Locked" issue, because oddly enough this used to happen with Palm synch in OS 9 as well. (I just recently moved this Palm user from an OS 9 machine to an OS X Tiger machine.)
I tried deleting prefs and a few other things to no avail. The only way I've found to keep Palm synching smoothly is to occasionally remove the "User Data" file from the Palm users Documents folder. It seems to swell up to multi-megabyte size, whereas the "User Data Archive" file remains quite small. Again, this is EXACTLY what the user was experiencing in Mac OS 9 -- with exactly the same fix.
She does all editing on the Palm -- none on the computer, so her conduits are set to have the handheld overwrite the Mac each time. Hmmm... come to think of it, that may part of the issue.

I recently backed up all of my data using Samsung Recovery Solution 5 to an external hard drive so that I could restore my laptop. I put all of my data back on the restored laptop and reinstalled iTunes. After the error message that says that certain items could not be found and the "sync" is finished I go back to my music in iTunes and there are exclamation marks next to many songs. I follow some instructions regarding the Edit - Preferences - Advanced settings and the exclamation marks go away until I try to sync my phone again. Then I get the same error message and the exclamation marks return. I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and the same thing happens again. I am about to schedule an appointment with the Genius Bar but would like to avoid that if possible. Thank you in advance for any help.

File locked message when saving a file with Photoshop

We've been seeing a problem with several users that is hard to reproduce. Every once in a while when they try to save a file in Photoshop on the server they get a dialogue saying 'the file is locked, use Finder info to unlock the file'.
This file is located on the server and the problem only happens when doing a 'Save', not with a 'Save as'. The server is running 10.5.5 and the clients are 10.4.11. This is happening with Photoshop versions CS1, 2 and 3. It also happend with Illustrator CS3 once.
We've been experimenting with different scenario's using different ACL's and POSIX settings. Also, when the client reboots their machine the exact same 'Save' actions works again.

I've been receiving complaints about a similar issue over the past few weeks, except using Quark and Excel. I wonder if it's related to the 10.5.5 update. Are you sure you didn't get the version numbers reversed in your post? We're having the issue with 10.4.11 SERVER and 10.5.5. CLIENTS.
It's a file locking issue, so you probably won't fix it by changing the ACLs or POSIX permissions. The server thinks a different process still has the file open, so it's preventing you from changing the file. "Save As" works because it creates a new file.
You can probably eject & reconnect the volume from the client instead of fully rebooting.
The question is what's keeping the file open. You can run:
sudo lsof | grep <filename>
... in Terminal to see whether a given Mac has the file open. If the server comes back with a response to that command (don't worry what it says - you just want to see if anything comes back), then you know that the file is locked.
Next, go to each client that could have the file open and run the same command. If none of them have it open, you're probably looking at the same glitch that I've been. The server thinks a file is open but none of the clients do.

ITunes Locking Up When I Sync My iPhone

When syncing my iphone it starts backing it up and gets to where its syncing my mail accts.

I found like 4-5 copies of each voice memo! I didn't do anything with them, but I did the hard reset people mentioned, hitting the home button and sleep button and it did sync without the error. I'm not sure though that it's saveing the new ones?

Message when I Sync iTunes App to my 3GS

Right, I found an app from the app store in iTunes and downloaded it, no problem. When I connect my iPhone and when I click the Sync Apps box I get a message that says: "All existing applications and their data on the iPhone will be replaces with applications form the this iTunes library."

Your iPhone remembers which library it is synced with. If you want to use your home computer, just make sure you have all your media in your iTunes library at home, then sync with it (it will erase and re-sync so make sure any information stored in your applications is available somewhere else).
If you don't want to erase your iPhone, you can transfer your iTunes library from your work computer to your home computer, migrate all your data from your home library to your work library (now on your home computer) and then use that old work library as your main library.

Error message when i sync my ipod nano

whenever i try and sync my ipod (nano 5th gen) i get an error message saying an unknown error occurred. i have restored it, downloaded the most recent itunes, restarted my computer, used different cables and different USB ports and it still isn't working. it has been fine until about a week ago. what can i do?

I get the following message when I sync my iPad "iTunes cannot sync apps on iPad as apps cannot be determined" How do I fix this?

My iPad backs-up on my computer no problem but I get the following message and my apps will not sync. " iTunes cannot sync apps because the apps insatlled on the ipad could not be determined". Can anyone help me to fix this issue?

Did you try and choose Restart instead? You may need to uninstall and re-install it using the instructions in this Apple support document.

check if you have read & write permissions for your music folder. in finder, right-click on it and get info. unlock the little padlock (you may have to enter your admin password) and change the permission settings.
next, click on the little gear-shaped icon and apply to enclosed items like so
the important part is to apply to enclosed items !

I have the iPhone 4 and I keep getting a "this accessory doesn't support charging" error message when I sync with my MBP.

It is also doing it with my car charger. Both of these have always worked fine in the past. Any ideas?

This means your iPhone has a major problem, and if the error message says connect to iTunes, you must do as provided and connect to iTunes. There isn't anything to figure out - you must connect your iPhone to iTunes as provided.

Yahoo Sync Error Message when I Syncs the Calendar.?!?

Hi, I've tried several fixes from this forum for this error but no go:
Intellisync - Error accessing internal map field.
I wiped out the calendar in yahoo and on device. wiped the BB. added the apointments i needed into yahoo.
It will sync one way to the device no problem but not both ways. If i dont sync the calendars all else works fine.

Just look for the label on the bottom of your notebook (sticker should say Bluetooth). Make sure the Toshiba Bluetooth Stack (software/driver) is installed on your machine. The Bluetooth Manager is part of the Bluetooth Stack. If it isn't installed, you will have to install it.

Need help understanding error message when syncing iTouch

I get an error message when I sync my iTouch with my MacBook. The error message reads as follows:
"iTunes could not sync mail accounts to the iPod...because an error occurred remapping record identifiers."
First, can anyone tell me what this message actually means? And second, any suggestions on how to resolve the problem?

it means a USB adapter. one that is connected to your computer in order to give you more USB ports than are built into your machine.

"Object Locked" message - but nothing is locked

I keep getting the "object locked" message when I try to edit text or add pages (using CS6). Nothing is locked though; no objects, no layers, and it's not on a master. The document usually crashes shortly after this message pops up. Help please!
