Connect the iPod to your computer an start iTunes.
In the summary Tab of the iPod page in iTunes you will see the 'Restore' option.
This will erase the entire contents of your iPod and reinstall the software for you.
Before you do that though, just try connecting the iPod to the computer and opening iTunes as this is supposed to unlock the iPod as described here :-
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302255
Unlocking iPod
You can unlock iPod in one of two ways:
Enter the combination on iPod using the same controls you used to set the combination. If you do not enter the correct combination, the digits onscreen flash red. When you enter the combination correctly, iPod will unlock and return you to the last viewed screen.
Connect iPod to the primary computer you use it with (the first one iPod synced with), and open iTunes. When you disconnect iPod from the computer, it will no longer be locked.
If you can't unlock iPod using either of these methods, you can restore your iPod to factory settings. Please note that this will erase all data on your iPod. Afterwards, you can add your music and data back to iPod.
If you want to change the primary computer that your iPod is associated with, do this:
Restore your iPod. Warning: The restore process cannot be undone. All of your songs and files will be deleted. Always make a backup of your important data.
Connect your iPod to the computer that you want to be the primary computer.
Open iTunes and synchronize.

You'll have to connect the iPod to your computer and restore it to factory settings in iTunes.  Then resync your music etc.

  • I set a code for volume limit and forgot what it was....wat do i do?

To reset the code, you will need to select the iPod in iTunes and click Restore.
This will erase the iPod and restore the iPod OS (and remove the screen lock and volume lock codes).

  • How do I get to the Volume Limit again (iPod Red Nano)

I set this under Volume Limit in the Settings section but then when I went to change it, my thumb slipped and I accidentally set the 4 digit number for the Screen Lock (which I have not set) which was the 1st option. Now when I go back to Volume Limit to change it, I only see the Screen Lock option.
How do I get to change the volume limit again.
    iBook 500 Mhz Ser#UV1331R1LCD Mac OS X (10.4.8)

This is exactly my problem. I have a newly acquired 1st generation Nano. I followed the directions from the knowledge base to the letter. But after confirming the combination, the screen does NOT return to the volume bar to allow a change of the volume limit, and I can find no work around.
Further input would be greatly appreciated.

  • Can't increase volume limit

My earphones are plugged in all the way. I went to settings, volume limit and when I press the click wheel nothing happens. The limit just stays at the lowest. I don't have a combination on it. Thanks for any help you can give.

If the white part of the earplugs are touching the iPod and you are still having volume issues, try resetting the iPod or do a restore. Instructions are in the iPod nano (5th generation) - User Guide
Otherwise, you will need to call iPod tech support U.S. iPod and Mac technical support: 1-800-APL-CARE (1-800-275-2273) or take your iPod to an Apple Store for testing incase it's a hardware problem.
Every iPod comes with complimentary, single-incident telephone technical support within 90 days of your iPod purchase. If you also purchased AppleCare, then your warranty is extended for technical support and hardware coverage for two years from the original purchase date of your iPod.

  • Volume limit stuck on minimum

I've seen lots on here about issues with the volume limit feature. Like others, when I first got my new Nano (bought in Houston, TX) I found the volume to be too high. People around me in the office could hear the music.
I tried fiddling with it and turned the limit to minimum, but it was still too loud. Move forward 2 weeks. Haven't used it much recently. Tried to go for a run (where the higher volume is actually good) and found that I was getting almost nothing. Tried resetting the VL but now it's completely locked on minimum and I can't change it.
Is this a 5G bug? So many people with VL problems, surely Apple has some kind of answer.

    Ah, nuts.
Just tried resetting the Nano and VL has gone back to a default position. Volume control seems to be working, too. Typical.
But I still need to know what happened to the Limit function. How did it get stuck on minimum and how do I avoid it in the future? Or is this part of the "Euro volume limit" and it occurred when I connected to my PC? If so, they must think all iPod listeners have some kind of superhearing.
If anyone has ideas on this VL issue, I'd love to hear them.
    Thanks

  • Volume limit unable to lock

My IPOD Classic was set at a high volume limit. I did select a combination code to lock it. However when I click play to hear my songs, the audio was not as high as I had selected.
As an example from a scale of 1 to 10, I set my volume limit at 9. Locked it and click on play. The audio was pretty low. I went back to volume limit and unlock my combination, than saw the scale was back to say, "4".
Anyone having this problem? I can't seem to keep the volume limit at 9.

This confused me too. The Settings/Volume limit screen is slightly unintuitive IMHO.
The small triangle on the bottom of the bar always shows the current volume limit.
The horizontal dark bar always shows the current volume you're listening at. If you modify the current volume with the click wheel this volume change is temporary and the volume you were previously listening at is restored when you exit from Settings/Volume limit.

  • IPod Nano Lock Code for Volume Limit change

Does anyone know what the 4-digit code on the Nano is as it comes from Apple, or know where in the documentation I can find it ? I want to change the volume limit and don't know what the code is and can't find it in any of the packaging material that came with the Nano...
...I don't want to have to restore it, and lose all of the files I have on it and have to re-load it from scratch.
    Thanx !

It doesn't come locked so there should not be a limit on it. Restore it in iTunes to clear it if you have one. This is a 1st Generation Nano?

  • Ipod shuffle volume limit

I have a first generation ipod and when i got itunes 7 i got a volume limit too. software is 1.1.4 for shuffle. After i set the volume limit i came back today and there was no box for it in settings, so i cant turn it off or adjust it. My ipod still does the volume limit and this is no help because when there is any other noise it's almost impossible to hear since vol limit is so low.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
This is not currently a feature for the iPod shuffle.
I would Send Apple Your Feedback.

  • How do i reset pass code to unlock volume limit on ipod model mc525ll

I forget my passcode for my ipod 6th gen. model MC525LL.  i want to adjust the volume and can't without the passcode.  How do I reset it?  Thanks.

    Hi blondop,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
If you cannot remember the passcode, you can restore the iPod nano and then set it up again. The articles below provide more details about the maximum volume limit and restoring the iPod.
Setting the maximum volume limit on iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ta38403#ipod
Note: If you forget the combination, you can restore iPod.

    How to restore iPod
Verify that you have an active Internet connection, because you may need to download new versions of the iTunes and iPod Software.
Download and install the latest version of iTunes if necessary.
Open iTunes. Connect your iPod to your computer using the USB or FireWire cable that came with your iPod.
After a few moments, your iPod will appear in the Source panel in iTunes.
Select your iPod in the Source panel. You will see information about your iPod appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes window.
    Click Restore.
If you are using a Mac, you will be asked to enter an administrator’s name and password.
A progress bar will appear on the computer screen, indicating that stage one of the restore process has begun. When this stage is done, iTunes will present one of two messages with instructions specific to the iPod model you are restoring.
Disconnect iPod and connect it to iPod Power Adapter (typically applies to older iPod models).
Leave iPod connected to computer to complete restore (typically applies newer iPod models).
During stage two of the restore process, the iPod displays an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remain connected to the computer or iPod power adapter during this stage.
Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see, because the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
After stage two of the restore process is complete, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear. It will ask you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences, as it did when you connected your iPod for the first time.

  • How do I unlock my volume limit if I forgot my code?

Hello, I forgot the code I created for my volume limit and I would like to unlock it. My volume is too low and I would like to turn it up. My ipod is 30gb. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Connect it to your computer and Restore it in iTunes. You will have to Resync after doing this as it will remove all data from your iPod.

  • Volume Limit Failure

When I set the volume limit and press the center buttun, the volume drops far below the setting I just entered. What's up?

this is a new feature with the 1.2 updater thingy. on your ipod (if you're one of the lucky ones whose ipod still works after installing 1.2), go to "settings" then "volumne limit" and change the setting. you'll need to enter a code.
works for me anyway... hope this helps.

  • Ipod-Nano-4GB volume limit locked

    Hi,
For my Ipod-4GB nano...somebody locked the volume limit.I am unable hear the songs.
How to unlock that code? I tried to unlock with so many tries, but i am unable to do that.
    Help me in this thing.

"Go to settings on main menu, then hit Volume Limit and adjust it as wanted."
And how do you do that if the combination has been forgotten?
If you set a combination, you must enter it before you can change or remove the maximum volume limit.

I cannot create a catalog because everywhere I try on my computer, it comes up with cannot Lightroom cannot create a catalog on network volumes.  And is there any way to contact Adobe directly?  Would you be able to give me a phone number and/or email address?@@

The short and direct answer to your question about catalogs on a network drive is that you can't do that. The catalog must reside on a local drive.

  • Hello, I would like to buy an I Pod Classic 160 GB and have heard that the volume limit in Europe has been reduced from the factory. Are the devices in the U.S.A also affected?

Hello, I would like to buy an I Pod Classic 160 GB and have heard that the volume limit in Europe has been reduced from the factory.
Are the devices in the U.S.A also affected?
    Volker

No, they are not. But getting round this is not that simple.
Until recently, the European Volume Limit that you're referring to affected iPods sold within the EU (European Union countries), so one purchased in the US would not be affected by this. Nor, in theory, would an iPod purchased in Norway or Russia, since neither of them are in the EU.
However, iPod Classics now sold within the UK (where I live) now appear to have an option to disable the EU Volume Limit. I would assume therefore, that this option is available on an iPod Classic bought anywhere within the EU. The firmware on an iPod Classic that can turn off the EU volume Limit is 2.0.5.
iPod Classics running earlier versions of the firmware (including 2.0.4) cannot be upgraded. I have personally seen one with 2.0.5 Mac on it in an Apple Store and the EU limit could be turned off. Check the picture from Badgorr in this thread New Option to turn off EU Volume Cap?  (It's towards the bottom of the page.) However, non-Apple stores may still have older stock, so be aware of this when you go shopping.
Experience tells me that buying an iPod from outside the European Union area is not that simple and you are unlikely to manage it. Apple will not ship goods to another country. So either you travel to the US to buy one from a shop (that's a bit extravagant) or you persuade someone else to buy one and send it to you. However, not only will you have the cost of shipping, but in either case, your country's tax department will almost certainly add tax to it when it comes into the country. The service delivering it will apply the tax and charge you for doing so as well or you get charged by the customs department at the airport.
