Volume not saved in xfce

Hello all,
using xfce on my netbook, everything is running nicely except that after a reboot the sound mixer reset to zero and disabled....any way I can fix this so that sound settings are saved upon exit?
thanks,
DF

Run "alsamixer" in a terminal as root, adjust the settings as you desire, exit with the ESC key then type:
"alsactl -f /var/lib/alsa/asound.state store"
PS: that from link to Alsa wiki from Arch Beginners Guide.

  • Volume not saving in the Window's volume mixer. Resets back to 100% [Adobe Flash Player]

This problem is rustling my jimmies hardcore
Everytime I restart Firefox or Internet Explorer "Adobe Flash Player 11.3" always resets back to 100% in the Window's volume mixer while everything else stays put.
My Skype volume never resets after a restart, my Firefox volume never resets after a restart, my WMP/VLC players never reset after a restart. Why does this
How could something so obvious get past QA, quite frankly I think it's embarrassing for a company as big as Adobe.

When you have a minute, please vote for the following bug:  https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3210127
As for working around this issue, please see the following FAQ.  In particular, you can either disable Protected Mode or revert back to a previous version of Flash Player.
How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?

  • Volume setting not saved

    Hello,
My volume settings are not saved when I power-cycle or reset my iMac. I have tried resetting the PRAM, with no effect. In another thread, someone asked me whether my PRAM battery might be getting old; the answer is, probably not, this computer was new as of this January.
One thing that's a little different from my other/previous Macs is that I have a Solid-State Disk (SSD) as startup disk and a standard Hard Drive (HD) for data storage. As recommended by various threads on the subject, to optimize performance while minimizing wear on the SSD, the /Users/xxx directory is on the SSD, but various sub-directories (Desktop, Documents, Downloads, ...) are on the HD. I've noticed that this leads to various odd perturbations (e.g. icons in the Finder sidebar only update when I click on them, can't launch a Parallels virtual machine by double-clicking its icon, ...), but I really don't see how it would be related to my volume settings.
    Here's the machine configuration:
    iMac (iMac11,3) 27" / 2.93 GHz Intel Core i7 / 16 GB RAM / 251 GB SSD / 2 TB HD
    Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10K540)
    Boot ROM version: IM112.0057.B00
Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks for the suggestion. The Library folder is on the SSD, and I don't think the Public folder really has anything to do with this. But I did try moving the Desktop folder back to the SSD; the only thing that changed is that the Desktop icon in the Finder window sidebar is drawn correctly. The volume setting behavior is not changed.
I noticed something else, though: when I increase the volume and restart, the reboot chime is louder. This implies that my volume setting is correctly saved to PRAM, but then something else - during the start-up - cranks it back down. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to track this sort of thing?

  • Volume control slider position not saved at exit

Just upgraded to 6.0.2.23 and when I started it for the first time, I noticed that the volume slider was pegged at max. Thought nothing of it and turned it down. The next day, when I started iTunes, I noticed that it was pegged again.
It appears to me that the position of the control is not saved any more. It was in the previous version and this is new.

    Hello,
In Captivate 5 there is a volume control widget. Did you try that? Open the Widget panel (or the Widget Workspace), click on the button Browse, you'll find it in the Gallery, Widgets folder.

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

You can also hack Auzentech drivers and Install theirs consoles it can resolve this issue but you must do this at your own as nobody can support you with info how to do this nor will I.Message Edited by Art385 on 08-06-2008 04:24 PM

  • QuickTime Pro 7.1 sound edits not saving

In QuickTime Pro 7.1 when I adjust the volume level in the movie Properties dialog, then save the file, the edits are not saved with the file when I reopen it and play it. The volume level reverts back to the way it was before.
Is there something I am doing wrong?
    TIA
    G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

If you're the adventurous type and the missing functionality of QT 7 is a real burden then you can do the following:
    1. download QT 6.5.1 from here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/quicktime651.html
    do NOT install it.
    2. download Pacifist here:
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
Use Pacifist to open the "QuickTime651.pkg"
(What we do next is extract only the QuickTime 6.5.1 Player from the package.)
From the "Application" folder in the open Pacifist window, choose "QuickTime Player.app"
In the Pacifist icon menu choose "Extract To..." and choose your Desktop.
    * Important: Rename the "QuickTime Player" on your Desktop to "QuickTime Player 6.5.1"
Put it into your Applications folder and use as you have in the past.
Any changes you make to the video or sound can now be saved as before if you use this player to open your movies.
The QuickTime 7 player will still function as it did before.

  • Password on encrypted volume not being "forgotten"

I've set up an encrypted disk image (sparsebundle) and written a short bash script to simulate the old-style FileVault (to protect just a single account.)  It uses a folder within the encrypted volume as the home folder of an account that I use for sensitive information.  While it took a little while to get the permissions/ownership right on the volume and image, it works fine.  The other tricky part was that I have the script close the volume after it detects the account has been logged out -- I discovered I needed to wait a while for the logout to complete before closing the volume (otherwise it seemed like the system was trying to read or write from the volume even after "who" showed the account was logged out, and so it created a new home directory that confuses things.)  Now, the "problem" I have is this.  The first time the script opens the encrypted volume the system of course asks for the password.  Thereafter unless I reboot (logging in and out of the non-protected account I start the script from doesn't help) and possibly after a *long* time, tthe system seems to be remembering the password to the file -- on subsequent uses of the script the volume is opened without me being asked for the password.  I have examined carefully what I do when entering the password to make sure it's not saved in the keychain -- and indeed it isn't (verified by looking at the keychain).  Does anyone have any idea where the system (presumably the Finder) is saving the password and how to get it to "forget" it?  (I just realized I haven't checked to see if the password is "remembered" system-wide or just in the un-protected account.)  I've looked in both the system and account set of caches and nothing is obvious (all the finder cached data is in a single database, presumably in some obscure format.)
    Ted Lee
    Minnetonka, MN

Some more experiments.  Since I was using the encrypted image to simulate FileVault, I put the image in the /User directory (which is where the old FileVault put its image for an account.)  This time I created another encrypted sparsebundle in a directory on my desktop -- the system did *not* remember the password for it (I had to enter it each time I opened it.)   More interestingly, diskutil *knew* about and remembered the image I'd put in /Users, but not the one on my desktop.  Diskutil even said that the volume inside it was an unmounted (encrypted) partition.   So it appears the system is "remembering" images that are in the /User directory -- I have no idea if there are other directories (say, /Library) where it would be remembered too.  But the "memory" has something to do with the live system -- since if I restart, the "memory" is lost.  Whether it is kept in some none-obvious place in the file system that disappears on shutdown or restart or just in virtual memory I of course don't know.

Have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the Music and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad above the volume switch, or via control centre : swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen and it's the right-most of the 5 icons in the middle of it (if the icon is white then it's 'on', tap it to turn it grey and 'off'). The function that isn't on the side switch is set via control centre instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

    When i omit the line OutputStream out = new FileOutputStream(saveFile);
    and write only
    ImageIO.write((RenderedImage) bufferedImage, outExtension,saveFile);
    //out.flush();
then saving the image even in "png" also fails.

Sub Transaction type determines the subcontracting attributes and determines the accounts for the posting while doing a sub contracting transaction.
Sub transaction type is also used for determining the accounts while
    doing excise removals.
Within CIN the account determination is based on the transaction type.
So normally you can have a single set of accounts for Excise
utilization. In case you need alternate account determination for
handling various scenarios you can define sub transaction types. The
sub transaction types and corresponding account assignments needs to be
    maintained in CIN customization
To make customization of Sub Transaction type, goto
<b>SPRO --> Logistics General --> Tax on Goods Movements --> India --> Account Determination and check whether you have assigned second and third one, viz. "Specify Excise Accounts per Excise Transaction and Specify GL Accounts per Excise Transaction".</b>
    Check
<b>Taxes on goods mvnt--indiaaccnt determination---specify excise accnts for excise transaction...maintain the sub transction type , ip or 01,
    against the appropriate ETT</b>

  • Non admin user - changes not saved (Safari settings, system prefs, etc.)

iMac, 2 users, one is administrator and other is standard user. Recently, in the non-admin user account, it has become impossible to make any changes. For example, adding an application to the the Dock, after logging out and back in next time, the application is not in the Dock any more. Also, making changes to the prefs in Safari, changes are not saved.
I noticed this after installing FireFox v4. I installed it as admin whilst in the non-admin users account. However, I don't believe that the installation of FF has anything to do with the problem, it just highlighted it. I've checked the permissions for the various directories that hold prefs info such as user/libraries/application prefs/etc. etc. and also Safari prefs. Nothing I can see that has changed in system prefs.
Any ideas on what has caused the problem (kids are known to fiddle from within the non-admin account) and any ideas on how to fix it?
    Thanks

    Hi PPRuNe,
You could try making the standard user an Admin too. To do this, make sure you are logged in to the standard user, go to System Preferences > Accounts > Standard user (you may have to unlock the padlock) > Allow user to administer this computer
This will allow changes to be made without being prompted for a password all the time.
However, if you had Parental Controls on, they probably won't work on an admin account because as an admin you have complete control over a computer, so the computer thinks there is no point in having the controls turned on. And if the kids are known to "fiddle," just think carefully!
    Hope this helps you.
    Chris.

  • Microsoft Outlook 2010 The delegates settings were not saved correctly. Cannot activate Send-on-behalf-of list. You do not have sufficient permission to perform this operation on this object.

I am trying to assign delegation to a user and I receive the following message.
The delegates settings were not saved correctly.  Cannot activate Send-on-behalf-of list.  You do not have sufficient permission to perform this operation on this object.
We are using 2010 for the server and client.  There are only specific mailboxes that this is happening for after being migrated from Lotus Notes.  The user can use their mailfile fine however it is just the delegation that appears corrupted somehow.
I'm not sure how to fix this.  I have checked the access through the security tab in ad and that looks fine.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I did some more digging and I solved it.
    This would be the solution:
In Active Directory Users and Computers
    -Click on VIEW
-Click on ADVANCE FEATURES  (this is important otherwise you won't see
the complete list in the next steps)
    -Click on the USERS container
    -Find the problem user's account
-Right mouse the account and click on PROPERTIES
    -Click on the SECURITY tab
-In the top box, click on the SELF account
-In the bottom portion of the screen make sure the READ PERSONAL
INFORMATION  & WRITE PERSONAL INFORMATION  should both be checked for
    ALLOW
If you can compare the permissions for 'SELF' with another user you probably should set them accordingly to be safe. I noticed that for the user where setting delegates (SOB) did
not work, more than those 2 permissions were missing.
    Good luck!
    David
