Volume not showing up in AEBS Disk Pane

Greetings,
I am having an issue with my AEBS/USB Disk showing up, well specifically the Volume.
On the Macs when plugged in the Disk shows up just fine, checks out as OK with Disk Utility and looks pretty much identical to another disk that works fine in the AEBS.
When I plug it into the AEBS, the disk appears in the list of disks available for sharing, but no Volumes, when I plug the working one in - both the disk description appears along with the volume name.
- the "*" represents the little triangle)
(the Not working one)
* 465.8 GB Ext Hard Disk
(the working one)
* 465.8 GB Ext Hard Disk
VolumeName
(the working and non working together)
* 465.8 GB Ext Hard Disk
* 465.8 GB Ext Hard Disk
VolumeName
If I collapse or expand the little triangle - nothing pops up. I've run all tests in Disk Utility and it checks out OK. It mounts fine and dandy on MacOS and the only differences appear that the one that won't show up has more permissions that the one that does. Its frustrating me that this disk will work when connected to a mac, but when connected directly to the AEBS - nothing .

Are you using FileVault on your 10.8.5 partition?

  • 1 TB External WD Drive Not Showing Up In Finder/Disk Utility/Terminal

    Hey everyone,
First time posting here so forgive any mistakes. I recently purchased a Late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina, 15-inch, 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7 from Apple. Previously, I had the late 2007 Macbook Pro model until a friend spilled some water on it and corrupted the motherboard. Regardless, I was using a Western Digital 1 TB external hard-drive to keep all my documents and files backed up, manually, alongside the time machine feature built in. (This was not connected at the time of the spill, and was not thereafter, so rule out water damage) During the period between when the old one died, (earlier this year May-2013), I kept the drive safely in storage because I knew I would want to transfer my 100gb music librairy along with my photos and other files when I finally got the new one later that year (was waiting for the hardwell processors to come out for the MBP). Just recently after this purchase I tried to connect the drive to my new MacBook Pro but it was not showing up. I have scowered the online forums for trouble shooting tips and took all the steps to no avail. I have replaced the data-drive cable with a new one, connected it to the wall outlet in case it wasn't drawing enough power from the laptop, among a few other simple tricks, but still it would not show up in either Disk Utility or the terminal command to show all active drives, all that's there is the internal Macintosh HD one. It was a fairly quiet drive-however I do notice there is not much of a 'spin-up' noise or any sound of it begining to work when turned on or plugged in, so I'm worried there might be something wrong with the drive itself. Nonetheless, the power signal continues to flash but still no recognition from the computer that it's there, so I'm certain it's not reading it. I have tried on my other buddys Mac and it is the same situation, as well as my roommates PC (which I figured wouldnt anyway because of how its formatted, but it was worth a shot) I am not sure which avenue to take next as I have all my files and college work that I still need access to on the drive, and would really hate to have to format the drive or anything drastic as such. Possibly there is a part I can buy and replace myself to make it start up and spin again, but I am not sure what that part could be or if there is an easier solution out there.
I would greatly appreciate any information or help on this problem, thank you all for the time and advie.

Clicking from a hard drive is bad.  Does the external drive have an external power supply?  If it does I would use this supply.

  • How come my device is not showing up in the summary pane?

I am trying to restore my device because I have a black screen. I signed into my account but my device is not showing up in the summary pane.  Why not?

one of the biggest things that i see with this issue is that the usb connector is not pushed in all of the way
-look at the connector and see if there is any gap between the white shell of the connector and the device
-if so that push it in until there is no gap between the ipod and you hear another click
let me know if that doesn't work because there could be other things involved with the cause of this issue
but i do hope this helps:)

  • Volumes don't appear in startup disk pane in System Preferences

I have 10.3 on one volume of the original 120 G ATA hard drive. The machine boots fine from that. I have 9.1 and 8.5 on a volume on a 160 G hard drive I just added. Most files and applications all work fine from that drive. Only the volume with 10.3 appears in the startup disk pane in system preferences, except for a network icon. It even took several attempts to have that pane show up the Jaguar CD I put in. Why does the other volume with an OS on it not show up in that pane?
    Your help is much appreciated!
    Mike

    Hi Mike,
"Why does the other volume with an OS on it not show up in that pane?"
Because your computer cannot boot into OS 8 or OS 9 natively and therefore does not even offer it as a boot-system: Macintosh: Some Computers Only Start Up in Mac OS X

  • Trying to load OS X on iMac that has another OS on it. Volume not showing u

I recently purchased this iMac on eBay:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=1302 66706335
As you can see from the description in the auction, there is another operating system loaded on the computer, not an Apple OS.
I figured no big deal, I will install OS X as soon as I receive my computer.
It arrived yesterday and when I tried to load OS X, right when you get to the part where it says choose destination volume, nothing shows up. I'm assuming that it's because there is another operating system loaded on there entirely, but how on earth can I get passed this? I really don't want to be stuck a.) taking it to Apple and pay them to do something that I can do (loading the OS), or worse, b.) be stuck with this awful Linux operating system that is installed on there already.
Does anybody have any advice on how I can get passed this? I'm desperate.
    Thanks!

I have a question regarding the install on another machine using target disk mode.
My eMac apparently isn't reading CDs when loaded in the tray. Lovely. I need to do a fresh install of the OS and since it can't read the CD, can I do this via target disk mode?
I am using the eMac as the host, and the iMac (recently did a fresh install, as you know) as the target computer. I loaded the install disk in the iMac machine and when I rebooted everything, I can't see where the disk would be mounted on the host machine (eMac).
You were saying that this can be done—although not recommended—so, am I looking in the wrong spot for the CD from the iMac's HD?
    Thanks (again).

  • Windows not showing up in Startup Disk

Just updated a 15" Retina to 10.8.3 and also ran the SMC 1.1 update. Now my bootcamp windows partition does not show up in the Startup Disk any more. I can see it in the Finder and I can reboot and hold down option key to boot into Windows, but for some reason it isn't showing up in Startup Disk Preference.

yeah, I had a feeling it might be Tuxera causing it, wanted to see if there was another solution other than uninstalling it.
I tried disabling it in the pref pane and that didn't fix the issue, so I'm assuming it would need to be uninstalled.
As long as I am able to boot into Windows when needed (which isn't very often), I'm not too concerned.  Its a little inconvenient to have to hold Option during startup to do it, but it works.
Whats annoying too is that when using BootCamp control panel in Windows to restart into OSX, it boots into the emergency partition for Lion instead of Lion.  So, guess holding Option at startup is the only option both ways!
    Thanks for the help.

  • External Volumes not Showing up after Security Update

Here are the basics: i have a first generation PPC mac Mini (10.4.11) that has a Ministack external harddrive/hub attached to it. I installed the latest Security Update via Software Update with the drive attached (bad idea, i know) and now the drive won't mount on the desktop, does not show up in System Profiler, and doesn't even show up in Disk Utility. It DOES show up when I do a Volume listing in Terminal, so it appears to me that at some level the computer still recognizes that it's there. Also, I attached another external drive that I have and I get the same results with that.
The additional ports on the hub portion of the drive continue to operate without any problem.
So far I've tried repairing permissions, resetting the PMU and PRAM, even archiving and reinstalling the OS to no avail.
    Any ideas?

Hmmm, I've heard about the worry of disconnecting externals during an update, but my Mini/PPC was updated to 10.4.11 with a Ministack v1 connected without trouble!?
Seems you've tried about everything... how about Pulling the RAM, trying to Boot, then reinstalling the RAM?
How about booting off the Install Disk, does it show in DU then?
How about Does it boot into Open Firmware with CMDOption+of ?

  • Brother 3820CN does not show up in AEBS

Using the new AEBS I have two network/USB Brother printers. I have always used them with my D-Link router connected via Ethernet. Now that I am short one Ehternet connector for my purposes, I thought I could use the USB connection for the second printer, (Brother 3820CN) as a substitute. It will not show up in the AEBS.
When I connect an external USB HDD to the port, that will show up and works.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you.

This error may mean two separate problems that I could think of from the top of my head.
    1. SD card needs to be re-mounted on your phone. To do so, follow instruction below
    a. Go to Menu - Settings - SD card & Phone storage select Unmount SD card
    b. Eject SD card, turn off the phone and remove battery.
    c. Reinstall SD card
    d. Reinstall battery.
    e. Turn on the phone
    f. Try to connect and see if error will reappear.
    2. Letter "H" is already being occupied by your computer for some other external drive. It might had occurred if you previously was connecting some USB external drive, or USB external card reader and your computer assigned letter "H" to it in the past and now it got confused with your phone. In order to resolve it try this.
    a. Log in as Administrator account in Windows or any other account with administrative privileges
    b. Connect your Fascinate to USB port.
    c. Click Start, now right click on my computer and select manage
    d. Click Disk Management
    e. Right click on your Fascinate drive partition and select Change Drive Letter and Paths under Disk Management (you can find your Fascinate by a size of the drive which should be ~16 GB).
    f. Change the drive letter some other drive letter which is not already reserved by some other drive on Windows.
    g. See if you can mount your Fascinate in order to access it.

  • External drive does not show up in finder/ disk utility not able to repair

    Hello,
My external drive does not show up in finder. But it appaers in DISK UTILITY. When I tried to repair it, it said:
Verify and Repair volume “ANNE HD”

How can I back up files if the external drive is not found in FINDER? I tried to restore with disk utility, but it doesn't seem to be able to select the hard drive.
    Can you please help me?

  • External hard drive not showing in finder or disk utility

1TB WD external hard drive is not showing in finder sidebar, destop, or disk utility. I have checked and all the preferences are ticked. The disk itself is showing a light and making a whirring sound during start up after being plugged into the power.

Three different external drives, on 2 different MacBook Pros (different ages).  One drive with internal power, 2 through USB.  Also have a new Solid State External Drive and it does work.  The were all working before upgrade to Yosemite.

  • Files/folders not showing up with Airport Disk but are there?

I've recently bought the Airport Extreme, I was all excited about Airport Disk but there is a weird, extremly annoying bug.
On my USB hard drive connected using Airport Disk, I have a folder called music. When I open this folder, OS X starts reading the directory and files/folders show up one by one, but then it just all disappears - and the folder shows nothing. In Windows, it shows nothing at all in the folder. However, when I reconnect the drive using USB to my MacBook Pro, all my music is there and I can see all the files.
I have a feeling this is something to do with this:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305040
as I have German and Japanese music files imported by iTunes which are not named in English (ie the filenames are encoded in Japanese etc etc)
Another strange thing is, in Windows, if I type the direct path to a folder (which is inside the supposed empty folder) I will be able to access it.
    What's going on Apple?...
    Anyone else got this issue?...
    Thanks
macbook pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Hi Everyone,
I was experiencing the same. on the XP box it just wouldnt show anything period and on the Mac, the finder would briefly display the contents of the drive before disappearing. Spoke to Tier 2 and they thought I should reformat the drive, since he thought it likely that due to severing the drives connection that the format was corrupt...
I did manage to fix it myself and I'll tell you how. First I hardwired the drive via USB to the Mac. noticed an item called FROM which had no size, no date modified and type was --. I deleted the RECYCLED folder (which results when you delete something from the drive thru XP)
then i hardwired it to the PC. deleted the "FROM" folder which in this case was a file folder, and 237MB approx in size. I also deleted the ".DSStore" and ".Trashes" files. .DSStore is basically the icon cache and .Trashes is when you delete something on the airdisk from the Mac. reconnected the drive and POOF! it worked Problem is now solved.
So to summate, i think in my case it was more the discrepancy between the FROM not showing up as anything on the Mac, versus it being a full fledged folder to windows xp. i just thought i would pass this along...

  • TIme Machine - disk volume not showing in history

I have time machine backing up my boot volume, and an external disk that holds my itunes library and iphoto data. The external drive has failed. I have a new drive to restore to, but when I look at the time machine history it no longer shows the old volume attached, it just shows the new one.
Do I have to name the new disk, the same as the one that died? If so, is there a way to find that name (I don't remember what I called it).

    tbrinker,
Well, it should be relatively easy to determine the name of the old volume, with a little bit of detective work. COnnect your Time Machine backup drive, and navigate it using the Finder. Inside the backup folder, you will find nested folders going back into the past. Find one that is named with a date that you know would have included the old iTunes/iPhoto volume, and open it.
You will see at least two folder: One named for your startup volume, another for the iTunes/iPhoto volume. BINGO!
Now, all you need to do is re-name the volume on your new external drive. For now, let's disconnect the Time Machine drive. Select the Desktop icon for the volume on your new external drive, and press <RETURN>. This should highlight the name for editing. Re-name it using the exact same name as the folder you found in your older backup (the name of your old iTunes/iPhoto volume), then press <RETURN> again to exit the "edit mode."
With the now re-named volume still mounted, connect you Time Machine drive. When it is available, navigate in the Finder to the root of the new drive (not the Time Machine drive), then click the Time Machine icon in your Dock. You should now be able to go back in time to a point where the window you are seeing is populated with folders (namely, your iTunes and iPhoto libraries). When you find it, select everything, then click "Restore."

  • DPM 2012 R2 All backups fail with recovery point volume not available after resizing OS disk

I resized the C drive partition of my DPM server (the data is on a separate dedicated array) and everything failed. I put it back but everything is still failing with the same problem as here:
DPM 2007: The recovery point volume is not available?
I've run chkdsk for a couple and both have given the following after doing 3 stages:
Windows has scanned the file system and found no problems.
    No further action is required.
The backups still fail and the only error information I can find in the event logs is:
Backup job for datasource: Online\<VM name> on production server: <host FQDN> failed.
How can I find out what the problem actually is?
Is it possible to resize the C drive containing a DPM install? If so what can it be safely resized to? It easily met the minimum requirements and I don't know of anything in the documentation that says resizing the OS disk may cause issues.
Preparing your environment for System Center 2012 R2 Data Protection Manager (DPM)

    Hi,
Resizing the boot partition (usually C:) should not effect DPM in any way.  DPM writes directly to it's volumes contained in the storage pool and not through the mount points on the C: drive.    So is the DPM UI showing
missing volume next to some data sources ?   Try doing a DPM disk rescan and see if that removes the missing volume flag.
