so just moments ago i dropped my iphone 4s in a glass of milk, dont ask how, but it happened. it dropped it like speaker/charge side down. and now when i try to play music, the little cirlce for the volume isnt there. and when i try to turn up the volume from the side, it doesnt even show up. the volume for music goes in and out. it s like its connected to a bluetooth, but it not. pleasse help

Clean iPhone charging port very well with toothbrush and isopropyl alcohol. See if fixed, if not, clean again. If still problem, replacement part is charging port assembly with flex cable, lower mic and home button flex connector, all a less than $10 single part. Apple handles this with replacement iPhone 4S for $199, or $49 or $79 if there is AppleCare +.

  • Trying to load OS X on iMac that has another OS on it. Volume not showing u

I recently purchased this iMac on eBay:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=1302 66706335
As you can see from the description in the auction, there is another operating system loaded on the computer, not an Apple OS.
I figured no big deal, I will install OS X as soon as I receive my computer.
It arrived yesterday and when I tried to load OS X, right when you get to the part where it says choose destination volume, nothing shows up. I'm assuming that it's because there is another operating system loaded on there entirely, but how on earth can I get passed this? I really don't want to be stuck a.) taking it to Apple and pay them to do something that I can do (loading the OS), or worse, b.) be stuck with this awful Linux operating system that is installed on there already.
Does anybody have any advice on how I can get passed this? I'm desperate.
    Thanks!

I have a question regarding the install on another machine using target disk mode.
My eMac apparently isn't reading CDs when loaded in the tray. Lovely. I need to do a fresh install of the OS and since it can't read the CD, can I do this via target disk mode?
I am using the eMac as the host, and the iMac (recently did a fresh install, as you know) as the target computer. I loaded the install disk in the iMac machine and when I rebooted everything, I can't see where the disk would be mounted on the host machine (eMac).
You were saying that this can be done—although not recommended—so, am I looking in the wrong spot for the CD from the iMac's HD?
    Thanks (again).

  • External Volumes not Showing up after Security Update

Here are the basics: i have a first generation PPC mac Mini (10.4.11) that has a Ministack external harddrive/hub attached to it. I installed the latest Security Update via Software Update with the drive attached (bad idea, i know) and now the drive won't mount on the desktop, does not show up in System Profiler, and doesn't even show up in Disk Utility. It DOES show up when I do a Volume listing in Terminal, so it appears to me that at some level the computer still recognizes that it's there. Also, I attached another external drive that I have and I get the same results with that.
The additional ports on the hub portion of the drive continue to operate without any problem.
So far I've tried repairing permissions, resetting the PMU and PRAM, even archiving and reinstalling the OS to no avail.
    Any ideas?

Hmmm, I've heard about the worry of disconnecting externals during an update, but my Mini/PPC was updated to 10.4.11 with a Ministack v1 connected without trouble!?
Seems you've tried about everything... how about Pulling the RAM, trying to Boot, then reinstalling the RAM?
How about booting off the Install Disk, does it show in DU then?
How about Does it boot into Open Firmware with CMDOption+of ?

  • TIme Machine - disk volume not showing in history

I have time machine backing up my boot volume, and an external disk that holds my itunes library and iphoto data. The external drive has failed. I have a new drive to restore to, but when I look at the time machine history it no longer shows the old volume attached, it just shows the new one.
Do I have to name the new disk, the same as the one that died? If so, is there a way to find that name (I don't remember what I called it).

    tbrinker,
Well, it should be relatively easy to determine the name of the old volume, with a little bit of detective work. COnnect your Time Machine backup drive, and navigate it using the Finder. Inside the backup folder, you will find nested folders going back into the past. Find one that is named with a date that you know would have included the old iTunes/iPhoto volume, and open it.
You will see at least two folder: One named for your startup volume, another for the iTunes/iPhoto volume. BINGO!
Now, all you need to do is re-name the volume on your new external drive. For now, let's disconnect the Time Machine drive. Select the Desktop icon for the volume on your new external drive, and press <RETURN>. This should highlight the name for editing. Re-name it using the exact same name as the folder you found in your older backup (the name of your old iTunes/iPhoto volume), then press <RETURN> again to exit the "edit mode."
With the now re-named volume still mounted, connect you Time Machine drive. When it is available, navigate in the Finder to the root of the new drive (not the Time Machine drive), then click the Time Machine icon in your Dock. You should now be able to go back in time to a point where the window you are seeing is populated with folders (namely, your iTunes and iPhoto libraries). When you find it, select everything, then click "Restore."

  • Volume not showing up in AEBS Disk Pane

    Greetings,
I am having an issue with my AEBS/USB Disk showing up, well specifically the Volume.
On the Macs when plugged in the Disk shows up just fine, checks out as OK with Disk Utility and looks pretty much identical to another disk that works fine in the AEBS.
When I plug it into the AEBS, the disk appears in the list of disks available for sharing, but no Volumes, when I plug the working one in - both the disk description appears along with the volume name.
    - the "*" represents the little triangle)
    (the Not working one)
    * 465.8 GB Ext Hard Disk
    (the working one)
    * 465.8 GB Ext Hard Disk
    VolumeName
(the working and non working together)
    * 465.8 GB Ext Hard Disk
    * 465.8 GB Ext Hard Disk
    VolumeName
If I collapse or expand the little triangle - nothing pops up. I've run all tests in Disk Utility and it checks out OK. It mounts fine and dandy on MacOS and the only differences appear that the one that won't show up has more permissions that the one that does. Its frustrating me that this disk will work when connected to a mac, but when connected directly to the AEBS - nothing .

  • NSS4000 Volumes not showing up after powerfailure

    Hello,
A little background info.... my NSS4000 had the internal firmware damaged with a reboot/powerloss within a few months of receiving the machine back in 2007... so I do use the external USB Boot loader to start the box; and it has been working great since.
My reliable IT staff moved my UPS and my NSS4000 went through a few unexecpected power cycles in the freak snow storm last week in Connecticut.    When power was stable, I noticed my shares were no longer accessible.   Logging in to the device I see the following on Storage/Status page:
I was able to save the configs to a USB drive and it shows my missing volumes in fstab (maybe there is more to it when mounting volumes from a raid device):
    /dev/RAIDA/privatevol               /mnt/RAIDA/privatevol          xfs          defaults,usrquota,grpquota          0 0
    /mnt/RAIDA/privatevol/d               /mnt/ftp_dir/d          none          rw,bind          0 0
    /dev/RAIDA/scratchvol               /mnt/RAIDA/scratchvol          xfs          defaults,usrquota,grpquota          0 0
    /dev/RAIDA/internalvol               /mnt/RAIDA/internalvol          xfs          defaults,usrquota,grpquota          0 0

    /mnt/RAIDA/homevol/.autohome/               /mnt/ftp_dir/homes          none          rw,bind          0 0
I am not sure what to look for in the log files... but I do see messages that seem like there may be other problems... in dmesg and messages I see the following type of errors:

I don't know if these type of messages existed before my problem... they certainly don't look good to me.      My thoughts were to try booting up with a drive missing (but which one should I take out)... or looking for another NSS4000 on ebay and putting the drives in it.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Mike

To anyone that may find themselves in the same situation...
I think it is back up and running.  I wasn't sure if the NSS4000 was dead... so I did the following:
    1. made one "Save of the current configuration"
    2. powered off
    3. popped out the drives (labeling the position of course)
    4. powered up with a new drive to test creating a new jbod array and volume (which failed with the same type of errors in my original post.)
    5. Restored All Settings to Factory Defaults
    6. Rebooted
    7. Was able to create new JBOD Array on single drive with volumes (tested CIF and FTP.. worked this time)
    8. Restored the configuration that I saved on Step 1
    9. I let it fully reboot... and powered it off (still had wrong drive in)
    10. Put original drives back in
    11. Back in Business!!!!
I'm not sure why restoring factory defaults cleared out the problem... but I am glad I didn't lose my files.

  • Volumes not showing on one account

Hi, I am just setting up a 2007 MacBookPro for a new user. I deleted an old user account anmd updated to OS 10.6.5 plus all other Apple updates. On the admin account the boot volume as well as the Bootcamp volume show up. On the non-admin account none is visible, although in "Go to Folder..." they are there. Switching the normal account to admin did not help as did a permissions repair.
Is there an easy remedy for this?

    Addendum:
Starting up from the SL-install disk works, but none of the volumes shows up in any utility. Strange. Hardware problem?

  • Mounted Volume Not Showing On Desktop or Sidebar

Our company uses a Mac Mini running OS 10.10 Yosemite to share files. File Sharing is setup to share contents on the Mac Mini with other Macs and PCs. Sharing is working fine. However, in the last couple days when logging into the Mac Mini the mounted volume (Mac Mini) no longer shows on the desktop, sidebar or when accessing the client hard drive. In order to access the Mac Mini after mounting via log in an alias to the Mac Mini needs to be created and access via the alias. Folders from the Mac Mini can be added to the side bar and accessed that way, but the main folder for the Mac Mini is only accessible through the alias. Preferences in the Finder are set to show mounted volumes and servers on the desktop.
Computers accessing the Mac Mini are running OS 10.6, 10.9, 10.8.

Check the settings in the General tab of the Finder's preferences.

  • Internal volume not showing up as an option for sound

About two months ago I downloaded OS X Yosemite and everythign was working great until a week ago. The volume on my macbook pro retina would be on permant mute and I wouldnt have the option to turn back on the sound. I looked around and found out how to reset my PRAM, i did this once and it worked find. Now it is happening again and when I reset the PRAM it does nothign to help with the volume. Any other suggestions?

You haven't mention this. So I assume you have gone into System Preferences>Sound and made sure that Internal Speakers are selected and the Mute Checkbox is unchecked? Just selecting Internal Speakers in the first tab "Sound Effect" is not enough. You should set Internal Speakers under the "Output" tab and Internal Microphone under "Input" tab. When plugging into external speakers, this will change automatically to External Speakers. Sometimes you may have to reset these tabs back to Internal, manually. Hope I helped if you have not already done this.

Ipod 4th gen volume buttons not working. Volume bar not showing in music or video apps, not a speaker problem as this works fine when testing built in alarm tones???

Have you tried the standard fixes:
    - Reset:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore the iPod from backup via iTunes
    - Restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod.
If still problem you likely have a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genus Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
