Volume not working when I plug and take out headphones

When I plug in my headphones, my keyboard button and the slider button in the menu bar stop working.
I can hear the water droplet sound when I hit the keyboard button, but it doesn't change the volume. With the menu slider, it moves, but doesn't change volume.
I have to go to system preverences and change the volume from there.
When I unplug the headphones, it says

Where I think it should say, as it does before

and none of the controls changes the volume, it just moves.
What can I do to get the volume working again?
I tried a PRAM reset and that did no help.
Do I need to update to Mountain Lion? or is there a cheaper/easier way to do this. Thanks!

1. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Choose the method for:
    "Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
2. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
    Audio Devices window
    Side Bar
    Click the Built-in Output.
    Plug in the headphone
    Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so uncheck it.

My iphone text tone is not working when I plug in the earphone.
My earphone is always plug into the iphone as I use it to answer calls. I notice that iphone does not alert me (sound) when there is a new messages. Instead the text sound is transfer to the earphone speaker.
As the earphone is plug into the iphone and I am not putting it on always, I need it to still hear the text tone whenever I received new messages.
Anyone pls help.. the problem still there even I updated..

The iPhone is working exactly as it is designed.
Your options are:
1) Unplug the headset.
2) Leave the headset plugged in and the earpiece in your ear at all times.
3) Turn on vibrate and put the phone in your pocket.
4) Leave feedback for Apple and hope they deem it worthy of their time to fix.

Try the stamdard fixes to rule out a software problem:
- Reset. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup

If it only works when connected to a charger, that would indicate a battery issue.
As for the other issue... do as it suggests and connect to iTunes then restore. There is no logical, intelligent expectation that anything on the device can be accessed as long as the "Connect to iTunes" screen is displaying.

You likely have a problem with the headphone jack. You jhave to ways to listen to music via headphones:
- Get the jack fixed. Here is one place:

However first I wold rule out a software problem by try the following:
Reset the iPod:
Reset iPod touch: Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore the iPod from backup
- Restore the iPod to factory defaults.
The other way is to use bluetooth headhone if you have a 2G or later iPod.

Hi, Photoshop CC. Windows 8.1 64 bit. Colour selection not working when using alt and brush. I have tried rebooting and other things like closing swatch panel etc.
The alt key is otherwise OK. It's not the recent upgrade from Win 8 to 8.1 (5 days ago) because the colour selection facility was working yesterday. Any ideas.

I believe it has little to nothing to do with extensions.
I have just installed Firefox 27 on the Dell Inspiron 3520 laptop of a friend. She is an unsophisticated user who has a computer for email, simple web browsing, and watching YouTube and other online videos. Because she frequently seems to end up with junk on her machine, I wanted to switch her over to Firefox so I could install ad and script blockers that would hopefully slow down the frequency of adware and malware roosting in her system.
The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 3520 with an Intel celeron CPU (64-bit), running Windows 8. There are standard end-user applications installed (Adobe Reader, VLC Media Player, etc.), but no tweaking utilities, etc. The audio drivers are Cirrus Logic High Definition Audio.
I've been troubleshooting the laptop today trying to track down why the integrated speakers continue to work when the headphones are plugged in, with no sound coming through the headphones. Because I had run a series of virus / malware / adware scans just before installing Firefox, I thought I had mistakenly deleted some system audio files.
It finally became clear after toggling multiple settings, playing with Windows and Dell sound settings, and experimenting, that the headphone audio jack still works as it should in the system itself (for example, playing videos through VLC Media Player) and in Internet Explorer. It is only in Firefox that plugging in the headphones does not send audio through the headphones nor cut out the integrated speakers.
Sometimes there is a silencing of the integrated speakers for a few seconds, but then the audio kicks in again. (I am using YouTube and a certain movie streaming website to test the audio).
However, if the headphones are plugged in before starting the videos, the sound comes through the headphones, but unplugging the headphones, then reinserting them, stimulates problem again. Not only that, but then in YouTube the video will stall and can't be restarted until the page is reloaded.
Again, this is a fresh Firefox install of less than 24 hours, with only Adblock, Adblock Plus Pop-up Addition, Flashblock, and NoScript installed. There are no themes installed and most of the Options are the defaults that are set upon installation.
I have both disabled the add-ons and uninstalled them entirely before testing the headphone funtionality. In both instances the problem persisted. I've also uninstalled and let Windows re-install the Cirrus audio drivers.
Does anyone else have any insight into this problem, and any potential solutions other than "start in Safe Mode" and "reset Firefox"?

Firefox can switch audio devices within ~ a + or - 10 minute period or so (Just a guess). At which point it latches onto the audio device and will never change until the entire process is shutdown (read last paragraph, there is an exception)
Ive had this problem for a few months now, at least. And I switch back and forth from my sound system and my wireless USB headset.
If anything will fix this i believe it would be disabling "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" in the properties of your default audio device, but i doubt it. I think this is an issue regarding the code in firefox itself.
I'd like to see this turned into a default feature, being able to disable and enable the ability to stay on whichever device was the default at the time of launch, or to always play on the current default device, even if its changed. That or being able to choose a specific device/devices (WOULD LOVE TO THIS).
Other than that I dont really have a solution, and I kind of doubt anyone will unless its addressed in the next update.
Oh I thought of one solution that doesnt require restarting firefox, disable the current audio device and the sound will automatically switch to the next available device. Or possibly when a new device is introduced?? I havent done much testing on the matter though. This is just my best guess based on my personal experience with firefox.

Volume control not working after I plug in speakers or headphones

When I turn on my 13 inch with Mac OS X version 10.6.8 or if I restart it, my volume works perfectly. However, whenever I plug in earphones or speakers the volume will be 'stuck' on the loudest it can go. When I use the volume controls on my keyboard or the slider at the top menu bar, it will make the clicking sound as if the volume is going up or down and will show the white speaker with the volume being adjusted but the volume will stay on the loudest possible setting. Even after I unplug my speakers/headphones the volume will continue to not work. There is no red light coming from the headphone jack and since it works upon startup, I'm inclined to think it's a software issue and not a hardware issue but then again, I don't know the first thing about computers. Since this has started, I've looked online for similar problems or suggestions but nobody has had this exact same issue, but I did follow the suggestions for similar issues. I repaired the disk (I could only do it for the Macintosh but I am running bootcamp with windows on the other side but I've used it maybe once for a pc only program and have never run the internet on it so I doubt the problem is coming from that side). It repaired a bunch of stuff but it didn't fix my issue. I also reset the PRAM and the NVRAM (I don't know what this does, but someone suggested it so I gave it a shot) and it did nothing. If you have a suggestion for something I can do, please be detailed, or point me to detailed instructions because my computer knowledge is very limited but I'm willing to work to fix this. Itunes not working when nano plugged in

Hi, I'm pretty sure I did something wrong... I unplugged my nano from my pc without ejecting because I didn't want it to auto sync. Now when I plug it back in, it won't open itunes. If I manually open itunes, it stays frozen. But itunes seems to work fine when nano is not plugged in. This all happened because I got a new pc and was trying to figure out how to get around the auto sync... Help!

The model=auto option was actually the only thing i found on the internet that looked related and/or promising so i already tried that.

There's no such option for my PCM channel. Can't mute it.
It might be unrelated, but something that struck me as strange is the that there's no more volume support by my acpi-module.

Before 2.6.33 thinkpad-acpi has always been able to control the volume. However that might just be because tpacpi is switching its interface more and more to /sys instead of /proc.
Any more ideas?

Lenovo G580 boot menu is not working when pressing F2 and F12 key

QuestionI bought a new Lenovo G580 series laptop. After installation of Windows 7 Ultimate x64 bit edition, a problem revealed when Lenovo driver get installed.
When I installed Intel HD 3000 graphics driver and restarted laptop, the Window was unable to start normally. It displayed an error, so a recovery program started which was recommended. But this program failed to resolve the problem. Later, I tried again to load Windows normally but the blue screen fatal error showed up.
I attempted to reinstall Windows again, but after restarting window, the boot menu was not showing up after pressing F12 key. F2 key was also not working either.
I spoke to a Lenovo techincal assistance expert and they suggested me to remove battery and charger and press start key for 30 seconds.
My problem still remains the same, and I am unable to access boot menu.
The bios version is 62cn34ww. ls there a way I can get this running again?
AnswerPlease take note that the suggestion below is just a troubleshooting guide. If the steps could not fix the issue, you need to send you machine in for service for further assistance.
Try removing the hard disk , then press F2 button to enter BIOS
If you are successful in entering the bios, pleaes load set up defaults
Save setting by pressing F10 and shut the machine down
Connect the hard drive back and check if can enter BIOS via F2 and F12 to see boot menu

Why does my printer not work when i plug in the internet? (ethernet)

hey guys,
i have the Mac connected to a large digital printer via the ethernet connection. works fine, no problems untill i plug in the internet. I get an error message in my software and can't print any jobs, but the internet works fine.
I have a feeling that its a network problem, but don't want to mess around too much with the settings.
This is a company internet connection.
if anyone could advise of the possible network settings, I would be very greatful.

Your Mac sends traffic to the interface at the top of the list in
System Preferences > Network
When you plug in the second Ethernet, that Interface jumps to the top of the list and all traffic goes there.
The solution is to cable that Printer to your Router, not to your Mac.
Alternatively, you could add a small Switch and connect your Mac and the printer to it.
If you really want to you can use Internet Sharing to add the Ethernet port going to the Printer to the Network connacted to the Internet.

I think the subVI is working just fine when called from the main. I think what you're expecting is an indicator on the main VI to update as the subVI runs. What you will see on the main front panel is just the last value that a subVI has. That is the intended behavior of subVIs and function calls in all other languages. If you want to to update a front panel indicator while a subVI runs, pass a reference to the indicator into the subVI and update that reference instead of the indicator on the subVI. The other way is via a global variable. I've attached a modified version of your porgram.
