Volume on new ipod.

i recently sent in my ipod under the 6 months warranty, only to get one sent to me that works fine, except the volume is terribly messed up. It can be turned up a little but once you pass a certain point it stays there. the volume bar could show that it is all the way down but the music will still be blasting out of the speakers, and you cannot adjust it. any suggestions or should i just send it back in?

Make sure the volume on the iPod is turned up fully, since this will affect what you hear through the stereo.
Make sure Volume Limit is set to full. (From Main Menu, Settings/Volume Limit)
If you purchased your iPod inside the EU (European Union), then the maximum volume from the headphone jack is lower than elsewhere in the world. If this is the case, buy yourself a 30-pin Dock Connector to 3.5mm jack lead, such as the one linked here...

That connector will take a higher volume out (than the European Union's output) and that will be louder (and hopefully loud enough) through your stereo.

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Unsync/delete all music and resync
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup.
In order to restore with the unknown Restrictions passcode you will likely have to place the iPod in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

I ultimately had this problem and thought that it's the iPod's problem, I even went to a reseller's store and asked about the problem...
but it was not even solved :/ , so I had to edit it myself
1. Identify song that you know is always overloud/low volume ( though you had factory resetted your iPod)
2. Go to iTunes and right click the particular song on the library and choose 'get info'
3. Choose 'options' , it's between 'sorting' and 'lyrics'
4. This is the time when you found that the volume adjustment is more than none or +100% (lower than none if the song is really low) for the particular song, how do I know that? the songs that I found overloud on my iPod had volume adjustment of +100% or lower...
5. Adjust the volume to none, (you can observe that your other normal volumed song is none when it comes to volume adjustment) you can always adjust them to your preferred volume..
6. Sync iPod
7. Done!! ^.^
I tried this method and it works completely...... true story.
This method is also applicable to classic songs that you found it more awesome to make them louder.

i think i just need a new ipod. ive tried even turning up the volume and the button isnt responding. something is wrong with the button. there is also some minor damage inside the ipod i think as well, but im pretty sure my warrenty is up because ive had this ipod for so long. will i be able to send my ipod back into apple and get a new one?

Just got a new iPOD shuffle, and can't get it to work. i followed all the troubleshooting directions (worked on it for about 2 hours, twice)with the same problems. Updated the software version, restored the settings, no help. I copied all my CD with no problem, and the PC plays them perfectly in iTunes. Have the follwing errors. I think this is just a bad unit:
1. "Cannot read or write to disk"
2. "Unit could not be restored. Unknown error occurred" (1418).
3. "Unit could not be restored. Unknown error occurred".

Try to restore it with Apple's restore software:

They recommend using this if itunes cannot restore the ipod.
Another ideas I ran across when solving an error (Windows cannot load installer for volume. Contact your hardware vendor) I was getting, in case the above didn't work:
When you plug the device in have my computer open. When you see the device (F:?) right click on it and do a quick format. That apparently cleared up a lot of user's problems.
If itunes opens before you do this it won't work or will disappear from my computer.
If this doesn't work, did you get any error warnings when you plugged it in that could be causing it?

Just turn the volume fully down using the lower button on the upper left side of the iPod.
You can also go to Settings>Sounds to turn off alert and ringer sounds.

Connecting new iPod Touch to stereo or car using 1/8" auxiliary cable

I am having troubles connecting my new iPod Touch to my stereo and car using a 1/8" auxiliary cable. I plugged the cable into the headphone port on the iPod Touch (just as I always do with my iPod nano) and no sound comes out. The headphone port works fine when I have my earbuds plugged in. I have tried two different cables that both worked with other devices (a nano and a XM radio). Am I missing something? Is there a special cable that I should be using?

New Ipod- where's the sound?

Well I got the new Ipod Shuffle
&& it was working for an awhile just fine
But now I turn it on && when I want to turn the volume up, I push the + button and the volume decreases and I can longer hear it. And the little light on the Ipod flashes an orange color repeatedly

I did upload the new version of Itunes but it is still whacked.

The orange light flashes when you increase the volume to the maximum level or decrease the volume to the minimum level.
What happens when you push the "-" button? Does the volume change? What about the center select button?
The 1.0.2 update should keep the sound from ramping all the way up or down, but that's what appears to happening to yours. Mine did that intermittently which I attributed to shorting of the "-" button due to sweat.
I let the controls dry out and sealed them up and now they work fine.

try resetting. Hold down volume down and sleep/wake button until you see apple logo.
If that does not work, connect it to itunes, then restore.
If none of that helps, you may need to contact apple. Has it gotten wet?

Why can't you uncap volume on Classic iPods?

I've got a 80Gb Classic, and I love it. My friend however, had an uncapped 4th gen which died, then got one of the new 120Gb classics, and found that the uncapping software he used (GoPod - for PC) no longer works on his new iPod.
He asked me to do some digging for him, and I've found that it seems that you cannot uncap these 'classic iPods', and the last gen that you could uncap was the 5th Gen, which I believe is the one with the flat fascia.
What I want to know is why? Is there a definitive reason why no-one has yet made a piece of software to change the max volume?

It is stupid, just because of the french not being able to turn an ipod down

A way to normalize volume in the iPod app on iPhone?

I have a set of favorite songs in a playlist in iTunes on my PC, and in my iPod Classic. As either one is used to play the playlist, the volume of each song is reasonable in relation to the others. It doesn't surprise me, since I've been told that iTunes "normalizes" volume levels of music files as they are added to iTunes. Not sure if it adds playback information to the file in a form similar to the data tags on mp3 files or what.
Anyway, here's the problem. I synched my iPhone 3GS to iTunes so I can play this one playlist via the iPod app in iPhone. But there's one musician whose songs come out sounding twice as loud, and distorted. They don't do that in iTunes or in the iPod Classic. I poked around on the iPod app for some settings without any luck. Suggestions? I can take the original music files and create lower-volume versions, but that seems like kind of a clumsy approach.

The volume of mi ipod is too low

How can I make the volume of my ipod video higher. Songs in their best performance seem to have almost no sound on this new ipod.

Sounds like you could have a problem with your iPod. Even with the volume limiter you should still be able to hear the thing. My 5th Gen is pretty loud without any adjustment.
You could try goPod to uncap the volume limiter. I've used it on older models and it made a big difference.
