Volume only working on right headphone (EarPods)

Hi everybody!
After I plugged for the first time my Iphone 5 Earpods into my Macbook Pro 13', now it seems that only the right headphone is working. I cross-tested my Mac with other headphones, same problem. Audio really low on left headphone, almost inexistent. Also, I tried to connect the earpods to my iphone or other devices and they work like a charme. So I am assuming the problem comes from the Macbook. Is it possible that after I plugged the earpods in, some settings changed? I don't think I broke something, it's brand new...Anyway it's under warranty...so no prob in case. Thanks for answering...Bye!

    Hi Kitty.
Seems to be quite a popular problem. In another post, I posted the following.
"The red light is the data signal that is transmitted if you plug in an Optical Audio device such as surround sound speakers. I had the same problem for a short while with my 17' MBP. Sound was working fine from my built in speakers but I plugged in some earphones to listen to something that I did not want the rest of the office to hear and after pulling the hearphones out, the optical signal (red light) was being transmitted. The switch Cessna is referring to is the switch that is triggered inside the port that tells OSX that earphones/optical audio device is plugged in and to shut down power to the built in speakers. When the device is un-plugged from that port, the switch should get triggered again and power up the built in speakers and disable the optical light signal. Perhaps there is the slightest defect on the earphones you are plugging in that are preventing it from triggering the switch when the earphones are un-plugged.
Try a different sent of earphones to maybe trigger the switch if you are uncomfortable with the paper clip solution."
That seemed to solve the problem for that user.

  • I recently repaired disk permissions on my mac HD and now my on-board speakers wont work, the icon is greyed out and only works when my headphones are plugged in.

Try to put your headphones several times in and out from your connection, might be the switch is stuck. Normally it should work again while trying to plug the headphones in and out!

  • My HP Sleekbook stereo volume only works intermittently

I never had any issues.  Last week I had a standard update for Windows 8 and I also plugged in earbuds to keep noise down where I was as while using my laptop.
Since then it keeps turning on and off.  I ran all of the device trouble shooting test in the Control Panel and I checked the the IDT sound device was enabled.  It says the driver is fine.
When I run the trouble shoot test for the Hardware it actually turns the stereo volume back on.  The F11  does not have the orange light either when I press it when the volume stops working.
When I click on the icon for the speaker and go to mixer it shows volume control for device or HP speakers,  applications or system sounds, and HP Connector Remote user.  I also Noticed when I was listening to audio via the internet it would display that as well so I could adjust the volume.
I have the HP TS Sleekbook 4
    Serial Number CND3122588
    Product Number D1A99UA#ABA

As a follow up I also noticed that I constantly get the message that the device is in use when I run the speaker set up configuration test.
    Thanks

  • Headphone jack only works for right half headphones

I had connected my MacBook Pro to a set of speakers using the headphone jack. Ever since then when I use headphones the jack only outputs sound to the right side. There is no red light coming from the jack and I've also tried resetting the SMC but nothing has changed. Any ideas of what it could be?

I had the same problem but fixed it....go to settings , then scroll down to General, then scroll down to Accessibility , then scroll  down to where it  says L______________R , you will see a circle and  blue line, drag  this circle as it controls sound for left and right,  it should sit in the middle of L and R , if it sits  all the way on L or R it affects the sound coming out of the L or R earphones ,

  • Mac Book Pro volume only works through headphones

  • My sound only works with my headphones any ideas?

I am only getting sound with my IPAD when i used the headphones.

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

  • My volume only works when I either am using iTunes or a bluetooth speaker. How can I fix this?

The title is fairly self explanitory, I cannot hear anything from my computer speakers, it wont even have sound when I plug in headphones, but oddly enough, it works with bluetooth speakers.. To make things stranger, It also works with iTunes, but iTunes only.. I cannot even hear the little noises that happen when you lower and raise the volume via the buttons on the keyboard... Someone please help with this. Thank you.

  • IPhone volume not working and showing "Headphones"

When I try to change the volume on my iPhone it shows "Headphones" even if they're not plugged or connected via Bluetooth (I'm sure there's nothing connected) and behaves accordingly (e. g. playing audio only when there is a phone call). With headphones plugged in it works fine, playing normal audio on the headphones and phone call ringtone on the headphones and on the iPhone speaker.
I'm noticing this since I opened a game called "Dark Echo", that I've played only with headphones, without using headphones. The game says in the title screen "Headphones recommended". I don't know if this is the cause. I'm also pretty sure it isn't a hardware problem caused by dropping food or liquids on the headphone jack because the area around the jack is clean.
I tried restarting the phone, deleting the game, reinstalling the game, cleaning the jack gently with a microfiber cloth, plugging and unplugging headphones, blowing in the jack, playing media and changing the sounds and music settings.
My hypotheses are that it is an iOS 8.2 problem, a problem of the game or a hardware problem.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue and how can I resolve it?

I resolved this issue by cleaning the jack with a microfiber cloth, blowing and plugging and unplughing headphones again.

  • Ipod sound only works for right ear

Hello. I have an Apple Ipod 5th generation. I have had it for a few months now. Lately, the right channel sound stopped working. Only the left ear works. It does not matter which headphones I use. If i pull the headphone jack out a little bit, I get mono in both ears. I have tried cleaning the headphone jack with a cloth covered screwdriver and alcohol. It made no difference.
Any suggestions, short of replacement of the headphone jack on the Ipod?

You should still have your warranty. Its for one year...found this out after my one year had expired so if you send it back to them you're still covered.

    - Apple will only exchange yur iPod for a refurbished one for:
Apple - Support - iPod - Repair pricing
    - A third-party place like the following is less expensive. Google for more places.

  • Audio it only work using a headphone

the audio of my MacBook it's not working... only with I plug a headphone... without the headphone it's on a red light that you can see inside the cavity... what i suppose to do?

your mac still thinks the headphones are plugged in.  Try and quickly insert and remove the headphones in the plug to see if the internal toggle switch will flip back.

  • IPhone 3G Volume Only Working At 1/3 Now!!!!!

A few nights ago I was playing with my phone and all of a sudden I realized that my volume was coming out about 1/3 of the loudness it normally does. This does this in everything: the speakerphone, the ringing, AND music and videos...my speakers were working just fine until then and were plenty loud. I can't even hear it anymore when its ringing in my pocket...I have to stick my ear right up to the speaker to hear the music. I have an appt with the apple store today, but I wanted to see if anyone knew any solutions. I've installed the new update, and yes, my volume is up all the way.

yea i tried both the restart and restore. neight worked...im just afraid they wont replace it tonight...ive heard stories about people with problems and the apple employees telling them thats how its supposed to be...i know its not cause it was louder last week lol.

  • Speakers only work when the headphones are plugged in

I have an HP Pavilion dv6-6163cl.  I purchased it about 1 year ago.  I use windows 7 and have not altered anything.  My internal speakers stopped working about a month ago.  I uninstalled the IDT audio driver and reinstalled it with the updated driver.  I ran troubleshoot and it said they are working properly.
I noticed that if I plug in headphones or external speakers into the headphone jack, then the internal speakers do work and turn on.  This is backwards.  The internal speakers should work when nothing is plugged into the headphone jacks.  There is no setting in sound settings or driver settings to fix this.
I never used headphones or plugged anything in to the headphone jacks, so I'm not sure what changed.  How do I fix this?

    Hello cgoldberg11,
Take a look at this link, which has troubleshooting steps that should help you resolve this issue.  Please let me know if this helps.
    Good luck!
