Volume resets to maximum setting after iPod wakes up from PAUSE

I recently upgraded my 60GB iPod to v1.2 software with iTunes 7 on my Win XP Professional PC. Every time since the v1.2 IPod software update, if the iPod is placed on PAUSE and turns off, the volume is reset to its maximum setting when PLAY resumes.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Thanks.

This happens to me when I use the radio adapter. This was happening before I updated the software.

  • Brightness resets to highest setting after restart...

I'm a mac noob and absolutely love my 24" iMac. One thing I've noticed is that the brightness will reset to the maximum setting after a restart. I've seen other posts about the brightness reset to the lowest setting, but has anyone experienced a reset to the maximum setting? I calibrate the monitor with the Monaco Optix XR and the icc profile doesn't change, just the brightness setting.

    24" iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hello Mike
    Welcome to Discussions
If you are using a wired keyboard and some others you can use the F14 & F15 keys to adjust display brightness, try this it will save you time not having to open display preferences.
Another option is to just let iMac sleep. I sleep mine for days at a time, only shutting down when not using for days or bad electrical storms.
    Hope this will help

  • Problem in Reader X: only menu bar is visible after laptop wakes up from sleep

    Hi,
I am using Adobe Reader X on my MacBook (OS X, 10.6.8). If I have a pdf open in Reader, and then put my laptop to sleep, after it wakes up the content of the pdf is no longer visible. It's not that the window is all whited or blacked out, there is no window. There is only a menu bar. The file cannot be returned to normal by selecting it in the Window menu. After this happens, the only way to view this file is to close Reader and re-open the file. I tried reinstalling Reader X, but still have the same problem.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I was so surprised to see that you are using HP SimplePass V5.1 that I went back and looked through your other Posts to see if you had broached this subject in the past.
There is nothing wrong with V5.1 although it is so much out of date that I am surprised it has continued to function to this point.  It is a testament to strength of the code and the health of your system that it has done so.
According to your version of the Validity Sensor Driver (V4.3.205.0), I think you can update the the later Series 6 AuthenTec version of HP SimplePass.
While the program presentation is a bit different from version 5.1, the program is essentially what you are used to using; the password / webcard database is compatible.  You should be able to move to the newer version without any issues.  The latest Series 6 version is more stable than previous versions; you should no longer suffer the indignities of a program that mysteriously stops working.
    See the following Dragon Document:
    Instructions to Update HP SimplePass
NOTE:  There are two Series of HP SimplePass mentioned in the document.  You want to stay with Series 6.  Feel free to read about Series 8; for the moment, you are best served (in my opinion) by sticking with what you are using now.
    The Update procedure is simple.
Start at Page 5: Section Procedure to Update / (Re) Install HP SimplePass
Essentially you want to complete the following sections:
    Export your Webcards (if possible)
    Create Restore Point
    Reinstall Validity Driver
    Reboot Computer
Download and Install HP SimplePass (V6.0.100.276)
When you are done with the Update:

Well, the above two links have the problem similar to mine but not exactly. In first one there is a problem with network manager - that it is unable to restart after coming from sleep mode while that is not a problem in my case and I tried all the solutions provided in the second link, but didn't work.
What I figured is when I execute '#pm-suspend' and then close the lid. Then, after I open the lid I wireless works fine. 'pm-suspend' is not invoked if I close the lid. So I needed to invoke the above command when an acpi event is generated when I close the lid. So here is what I added in the /etc/acpi/handler.sh file
    button/lid)
         case "$3" in
               close)
                   (sudo /usr/sbin/pm-suspend)  #added
               open)
This works fine for now. Still, I don't know why this solution works - Why executing pm-suspend solves my problem?

  • Getting microphone alive after computer wakes up from sleep mode.

Is it possible to detect when the Flash Player "wakes up" from the computer's sleep mode?  Is there an event that gets dispatched when a computer wakes up in any of the AIR specific classes? I need to reinstantiate a netstream connection and the mic when the computer wakes back up.  Any guidance or pointers to do this would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks for all your help and time!
    Best,
    Laz

It appears it is a specific update. You could try 2 things:
    1) Verify and install the latest device drivers for your PC from the manufacture's support web site:
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=migr-70443
    2) Install or uninstall one update at a time to narrow it down to specific update (KB number). If you find the offending update check / search the internet for the specific Microsoft KB article and what is intended to fix. It is possible there
is a newer update that supersedes it.

  • Brightness resets to lowest setting after reboot.

This has only just started happening since the 10.5.1 update. Every time I boot up my iMac, the brightness setting is turned all the way down. Is there a fix for this?

See if the response in this thread helps:

If not, then repair permissions & restart. Hopefully, that should do the trick.

    Hello,
Depending on how you performed this update, that may be expected behavior. Or, something may have gone wrong during the update. With this result, I'd recommend an OS reload and then restore from your most recent backup (which, of course, you take regularly, right?).
    Good luck!

  • Why does the sound to my MacBook Air stop working after it wakes up from sleeping?

When I leave my headphones in the headphone jack and then close the computer to sleep, when it wakes back up the sound will not work.
It doesn't work with the headphones in or out, it is just completely disabled. I tried muting and unmuting and and toggling the volume but the only thing that works is restarting the computer.
Obviously, the sound works after restart but it is an inconvenience due to the tone on restart which is not the greatest noise when trying to work with a sleeping baby in the house (Which is why I use headphones in the first place.)
    Any help is much appreciated.

  • Internet connection not working after computer wakes up from sleep. OSX Lion

After upgrading to Lion, I noticed that my internet connection doesn't work when I wake my computer from sleep. I have to turn off the WiFi connection, turn it back on and it will work. I guess this is a glitch that will be fixed later on. Just wanted to point it out. I don't know if someone else is having the same problem? I am not very happy with the upgrade to Lion, things seem to be slower, I've had several freezes requiring to reboot. I guess Lion needed a little more twicking before release. Not worth the $29.99 price tag.

I had this problem on SL and on Lion as well, and it occures for WiFi and Ethernet connections.
In fact the internet connection was not broken as I could ping the destination usin the IP (not DNS name).
In this case the problem was related to mDNSResponder task which handles all dns queries.
It was the most frequent problem in my day to day work with SL and now Lion. It was never fixed by any patch from Apple. I tried almost all voodoo including fresh install, all possible config changes - no solution.
The only version with no problems related to network was 10.5.8. All the other versions had issues of different kind (WiFi instability (lost signal), DNS problems (for wireless and wired connection) sometimes associated with machine sleep and wake up and sometimes with no reason.
QUESTION: Is your problem independent of the access point / router you connect to.
I must say networking was (and still is) the weakest part, besides the other OS X weaknesses I experienced during 4 years of OS X usage.
No problems in the same network with Linux or Windows beeing ran natively on my iMac So hardware is OK.
Software is of poor quality. Not much more to say in this matter.
I found a very interesting article dated 1996 about programming which I think is still valid.
    Link to the article: http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/06/writestuff.html
Below the fragment (with some connection to Apple)
Software is everything. It also s***s.

  • Many programs hanging after computer wakes up from sleep

    Hi!
Since teh upgrade to Snow Leopard (10.6) I experience many hang-ups / freezes on a variety of programs. I have traved this to I think only happenening after the MacBook has been sleeping. So put to sleep, wake up again, and at least the following froze (all have latest updates installed):
    - Photoshop CS4 (hangs on welcome screen saying "Measuring Memory")
    - Adobe InDesign CS4 (starts, becomes sluggish, and hangs when opening files or latest when trying to close requiring force quit; then doesn't start again)
    - Adobe Illustrator CS4 (opens but freezes when trying to open a file)
    - iTunes (never comes up, just keeps bouncing in the dock until the cows come home)
    - Aperture 2.1.4 (shows splash screen and hangs then)
All work well after a fresh boot.
However, when I then try to restart the machine, it hangs before rebooting (my desktop background is still there, all other things gone, such as dock, menu bar etc). I have to switch it off the hard way (power button 5 sec or so) and restart. Then all works well until next sleep.
If anyone has ideas how to get around this I'd love to hear the answer. If you carry the MacBook around a lot, always rebooting makes it feel worse than Windows...
    Cheers,
    Hendrik

Similar sort of problem. iPhone will not wake my iMac from screen save using iPhone "Remote" and when I wake my iMac manually, iTunes reports that it cannot connect to my Airport Express, which I use a remote music player. If I go into the speakers pull down at the bottom right of the iTunes screen, I can immediately reconnect to the Airport Express by manually clicking to change it from "Computer". Both the Time Capsule which sends the wireless signal to the Airport Express and the Airport Express itself are showing green lights. The Time Capsule is connected wired to my my iMac. This system all worked well on 10.5.8. I had expected it to be better in Snow Leopard with remote wake from sleep. I am also getting various random hangs after updating to 10.6.1 and HP drivers 2.1. Syslog shows this often to be TWAIN related or HP printers. Not good at the moment. Spoke to Applecare yesterday and they had no constructive suggestions other than to reformat my hard disc and start from scratch - yea right. I have reinstalled SL and reupdated with no improvement.

  • Can't connect via ethernet after iBook wakes up from sleep

I'm running 10.4.0 on a 1.33 GHz G4 iBook. Since buying the computer in 2005, I've been connecting to the internet in various locations via AirPort, though I have hooked my iBook up to ethernet connections in the past and had no problems.
Recently I moved to a university where I must connect via ethernet, as the wireless network doesn't extend to the areas where I do most of my work. I bought a new cable. Much of the time, my connection is fine. But frequently I am unable to connect to the internet at all via ethernet, and I've noticed that it's always after I've woken the computer up from sleep. I've tried various ridiculous "kick the car and maybe it will start" techniques like unplugging the cable at both ends and waiting, restarting five or six times in a row, etc., and it starts connecting eventually, but I have NO idea why or why not. When I check my network preferences, I get the message "Built-in Ethernet is currently active and has the IP address [xxx.xxx.x.xxx]. You are connected to the Internet via Built-In Ethernet." But I'm not. What's going on here?

Sorry, meant to indicate an IP address without giving the exact numbers, and it came up as an HTTP address. My network connections system preference panel indicates a normal IP address. (And it's not self-assigned.)

  • Disk Utility erase fails after computer wakes up

I'm having an annoying problem with Disk Utility on OS X Lion 10.7.5 failing to erase a harddrive thats plugged into a HDD Docking Station via USB after computer wakes up from screen-off. I have an OCZ Agility 4 SATAIII 512.11 Gb SSD. I'm trying to do a complete erase with 7-Pass Erase so I can use this SSD for my Sony VAIO Laptop so I can ready it for fresh install for Ubuntu.
Now the problem with Disk Utility is that when I've selected 7-Pass Erase, I go away and leave the computer to do it's thing while it erases it, however when I come back and wake the computer screen to come back on, Disk Utility then tells me the erase failed. –– In my System Preferences for Power Saving settings I have the computer set to NEVER sleep, but only put the screen off after a while when not in use (ie; after 30 minutes). My other Sys Prefs settings are also set to ask for login after waking, I've not yet tested without this setting turned off to see if it's cause of problem, but I'll probably give it a shot anyway and see what happens. But I don't see how that would cause the problem since anything working in the background should still remain active while the screen is off just like Time Machine does for example when it does backups since it's USB powered.
Anyway… I think is either some kind of bug/error in Disk Utility or OS X itself. I've tried other Hard Drives and SSD's and they've all worked just about the same, and I don't think it's the HDD Docking Station either because it mounts everything perfectly and runs fine for continus use, I just hope there's a workable solution to fix this annoying problem when waking the screen from sleep. I have tested that it is screen-off that's causing it to fail by pressing the following keys Ctrl + ⇧ + ⏏ to put the screen to sleep, then waking again then entering my password to get back in. I have 1 other thing I've yet to try out, I've currently got it plugged in via USB port on my keyboard, I'll have to try it out on my iMac's main USB's ports to see if that may be part of the problem too.

Please boot into Internet Recovery (Command+Opt+R) and ensure you see the spinning globe. If you do, you can use diskutil cs commands to initialize your disk and re-install/restore from a TM backup.

    Hi
Did you try to refresh the connection? Something similar happens on my notebook but not with LAN but with WLan. If you right click on the small lan icon you will see the option repair. Check it.
Have found also this possibility. I dont know if it will help but try it.
    1. go to [Start] -> [Control Panel] -> select [System]
    2. On system properties dialog box select [Hardware] tab -> click [Device manager]
    3. On Device manager dialog box select [Networking adapters] -> double click [Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection]
    4. Go to [Advanced] tab -> select [Wake On Settings] property -> Select [Wake on Magic & Directed]

  • Output volume at maximum after wake-up from sleep

    Hi,
I very often find my sound output volume at maximum level after my MacPro (10.6.2) wakes up from sleep. And I always have it set at about 20%. An unexpected 100% is overwhelming loud... I have no idea how to solve it. Anyone with a possible solution?
    Mr. Pen

I use a little Preference Pane called Startup Sound which lets you set a default startup chime level. It hasn't been updated for ages, nor tested on 10.6, but it seems to work fine. You could give it a quick test to see if it helps.
