Volume rocker to control ring and notifications
Why on God's green earth is there not an option to control BOTH the ringtone and notification volumes at the same time? I know it hasn't ever been an option on the S3 (or at least that I can remember), but it just recently started to irritate me. I know that I can control all the volumes independently, but for me that just doesn't make sense.... when I use the volume rocker to adjust the volume, I'm doing it because I want ALL of the noises (or at least ringtone and notification) to be the same. I just can't wrap my brain around the fact that this phone doesn't offer the option like every single other Android phone I've had.
You've probably figured this out by now.....
On the front panel,
press Setup (button with the wrench)
scroll to Basic Fax Setup, hit ok
scroll down to Fax Sound Volume, hit ok
you can switch to off there.
There is no "soft" volume. Soft for me is exactly the same as loud, which is very LOUD - and was that way on the other 2 units that I brought back to the store for this problem.

Thank you for the sugestion, but it was working fine both on the lock screen and on my home screen. I check all my settings and it is how it was from Friday, when I got the iPhone 5s. It just stop working. The only way I can fix it is by shutting down the phone. It will work for a while, then it won't.

Apple told us that in the new iOS 7, menus such as the control centre and notification will be translucent, and allows users to see to some extent content concealed behind the menus.
I've update my iPad 3 to iOS 7.0.3. The menus (Notification centre, Control centre etc...) are not translucent, at all.
Control centre is completely greyed out, and I can't see anything behind the menu when called up.
Notification centre is similarly completely blacked out, though to a small extent I can see some content behind notification centre.
I've seen in video reviews of iOS 7 that notification centre and control centre are both close to being clear, and take up the colour of content behind them.
My iPad 3 does not display such aesthetics.
I know that some of you will say that I should turn off 'increase contrast', but that's not the case, since I've already turned it off.
The issue was already present when I update from iOS 6 to iOS 7.0.2, and the problem was carried over to iOS 7.0.3, in which I thought the issue would be rectified.
Is anyone else finding this issue present on their devices?
Has anyone found a fix yet?
Thanks!Sadly, the iPad 3rd Generation does not recieve the blur/translucency effects which you are mentioning in iOS 7. (The reasoning for this situation is most likely listed below.)
1.) The difference in processing power between the iPad 3rd generation & iPad 4th generation, (The 4th Generation recieves these visual capabillities while the iPad 3rd Generation isn't capable of producing the effects).
2.) Marketing issues in which Apple prefers consumers to purchase a newer model instead of something older.
Turning on the 'Increase Contrast' option is Settings will on make the Notification Center & Control Center completely opaque. This setting is used to make text legibillity higher.

IOS 8 Control Center and Notification Center not transparent?
I updated my iPhone 4S to IOS 8 and I have noticed that my friends Control Center, Notification Center and toolbar at the bottom are partially transparent but mine Control Center and toolbar are grey and Notification Center is black. I have tried many times turn on and off "reduce transparency". Is there another way to fix this?
If you go to Settings>General>Accessibility>Increase Contrast>Off it should change it. I had the same problem.

Volume too low on ringer and with hands-free headsets
Both the ringer's volume and the volume within headsets are too low in my new Droid X. When holding it to my ear while talking it is loud enough well below max volume, but hearing people through headsets while driving is often too low with all volumes set to max (on loud freeways, for example). I usually keep my phone's ringer on silent vibrate, but it would be nice to be able to turn it up louder when the phone is sitting on a desk at home. Cell phone ringers can be obnoxiously loud, but there are times when people need to have them turned up.
Because it is an issue in both the ringer speaker and the jack for wired headsets, it seems like there is a good chance of getting a software fix to raise the max volume levels. Reading posts on forums, it seems clear that this problem is widespread in most, if not all, Droid X devises.
If you are having similar problems, please take a moment to call both Verizon and Motorola with a polite report of the issue. I spoke with both today and they said they were aware of the issue, and the tech at Motorola said they were "looking into" a software fix for it. If enough people call and report it, we have a better chance of getting a fix sometime soon.
Verizon's support line is: (800) 922-0204.
Motorola's is: (800) 734-5870 (I chose #6 for "other issues" a couple of times after routing into Droid support to get a live tech)
It can be frustrating to filter through the support systems and report it, especially if they tell you to try obvious things like rebooting the phone and turning the volume up, but it really is the only way to get them to fix this issue. Both techs I spoke with actually looked in their systems right away and acknowledged the issue is being reported by people.
Of course, if anyone has a real solution to this issue, please let us know what it is!Thanks for the suggestion JKramer. I should have been more clear about having adjusted all volumes up in the settings screen. Assuming all sound options are located within the "Settings --> Sound & Display" screen, then yes, I have tried changing them. I have also tried changing the option to "use incoming call volume for notifications" under the "ringer volume" settings, after reading that someone had success in improving volume that way.
This issue is not a problem all of the time. It is only an issue when there is an elevated level of background noise, such as driving on the freeway, or having music or a movie playing in the room.
The phone is otherwise excellent! I live and commute in areas of very spotty reception (with all cell providers), and this phone will keep calls and not even have voices garble where my past two phones have consistently dropped calls in at least five problem locations. So far, everything else about it seems to work great!
Maybe some of these phones don't have this issue. Or, maybe the people who say they don't encounter the problem are lucky enough to live in relatively quite environments most of the time. In a quiet house or office, it is certainly loud enough. It just needs to have the option for increased volume when in noisy places. The issue is that its "max volume" settings are not as loud as with other phones.
Searching for something like "Droid X volume" will indeed show many people experiencing these same problems on various forums... -
I got my phone recently and for some reason the speakers arent working. I can only hear my music and ajust the volume if the headphones are plugged in but it doesnt solve anything if they arent plugged in. Please help me.

Screen transparency ios7 in control center and notifications
Just switched to ios7. The Control Center screen is not transparent, it is opaque grey. Simliarly, the Notifications Center screen is not transparent, it is opaque black. For everyone else I know, these screens are transparent, as advertised. What is going on here? Can I change a setting to fix this?
If you have Settings > General > Accessibility > Increase Contrast turned on, that is one of its effects.

Volume Bug iOS 5.1 and new iPad (3)
Here's an odd bug that I was wondering if anyone else has come across. I noticed recently that sometimes on my iPad 3, if I turn the volume up or down while in certain apps (Words with Friends or iOS video player), it all works fine and dandy. Then, if I exit the app and turn the volume back down while in the home screen, the volume doesn't adjust.
I first noticed this when I turned up the volume for a video I was watching, exited, turned it back down, and slept my iPad. The "sleep click" sound effect was just as loud as the volume of the video, not the lesser setting I set it to. The only way I have found to remedy this is to restart the iPad. The other odd thing that I have observed is that sometimes, I get the "Ringer Volume" icon that you would normally see on an iPhone. This is pretty odd as well considering, there is no ringer technically in an iPad.

The ringer volume icon is the volume icon of the pad, phone or not... It should show up anytime you adjust the volume using the side rocker switch.
Maybe I missed the point as well but I assumed that the OP menat that he heard the ringer tone - but that was me reading into it and as I suggested, there are aw olhe bunch of different sounds that you can set your notifications to use.
That volume rocker controls audio from music, video, and some, but not all game sounds, and none of the system sounds. Some game sounds, and all system sounds are controlled by the system sound settings that you set in settings, general, sounds. ( some apps borrow these system sounds, while other play regular video sounds.)
The volume rocker will control the system sounds as long as you go to Settings>General>Sounds>Change with Button>On. That then sets the volume rocker to adjust the email tones, reminder tones - any system notification sounds.
If you turn that setting off - you can slide the volume control for ringers and alerts all the way up and then the volume rocker on the iPad will have no bearing at all on the systme ringers and alerts. It states that right under the setting.
Now maybe I missed your point. -

When I press the + and - buttons, the volume icon appears, but the slider is empty. When I receive a call, I hear it ring, and I can hear the ringtones in the sound menu. However, the message/mail notifications don't make any noise, and I can't hear the sound menu.
- During a phone call, if I put the conversation on speakers ==> it works and the volume bar reappears. I can control the volume with + and - buttons. But when the conversation is over, the bar disappears again.
- With the headphones, everything is ok!
- I also noticed (only a few times) that when I do a silent to ringer mode, the volume slider reappears and works correctly during 2 or 3 seconds, before disappearing again.

Iphone 3gs silent switch problem and volume rocker
Hi so basicly my iphone 3gs silent switch is loose when switched on silent it moves a tiny bit and goes on ring etc and also the volume rocker the one to turn up is kinda pushed in but still works to make it work you have to push hard. Does anyone know how to fix? thanks!

No volume control elements and/or devices found
Hi, I recently installed Arch Linux and I followed the tutorials on how to configure it. At this moment I have Gnome installed and it is working fine, I only have one problem.
Every time if I try to access volume control I get the following error:
"No volume control elements and/or devices found"
I'm relatively new to Linux so it might be me just being stupid(Maybe I just don't have the right packages installed) but I've searched the web and I didn't find anything that could help, I also searched this site but there are only a few things about sound problems. I think the problem is caused because Linux is not detecting my sound card (its an on board sound card) or maybe I have not given the command to detect it/activate it. In Google I've found that 'lsmod' and 'lspci' commands are for detecting drivers, so I executed those in my terminal and put them here, I hope this might help fixing my problem.

I am using Photoshop CS5 on a new iMac with a wireless keyboard. I used to be able to hit F11 to perform a custom sharpening action but now the F11 key is the volume control key and I have tried everything to disable or switch the volume key. I have also tried assigning other function keys to initiate the action. Is there a simple solution to this? What am I missing?
Try unmounting the volume on your iMac using Disk Utility. Then mount it again. You may need to reboot the laptop or relaunch its Finder process (using the Force Quit window) after remounting the drive on your iMac. Remember that no process may be accessing any files on the drive you plan to unmount, or the unmount will fail. Unmounting and remounting an external drive on my iMac made it become visible on my MacBook Pro after it had disappeared.
