Volume scale error

Very often my MB's volume goes down and even when it's on maximum it's not loud enough. It returns to normal when i restart the computer. Is there a way to return the volume without restarting the computer?

Actually, I did have intermittent volume problems with the headset and speakers. Now, I seem to have a non-intermittent volume problem. It was working okay. I am not sure when it changed exactly, but I can not turn up the volume on the headphone out high enough. Even late at night when it is quiet, it is to low to hear properly with both the main volume control and the application volume controls at maximum. The built in speakers work fine at the moment. I tried a friends USB based headset, and it works fine; plenty loud enough. I tried both reset directions to reset the Pram and SMC, but neither corrected the problem although I am not totally sure the SMC reset went properly; it made a strange beeping noise rather than just rebooting.
I am using a large "studio" type headset, so I am wondering if apple put an update through that limits the volume for hearing protection based on using ear buds that do not require much power compared to larger, over the ears headphones. If this is the case, then they need to add an option to chose what type of headphones you are using and allow full output amplification for larger headsets. I can no longer use my headset at all, and I was using it for listening to music on youtube, and more importantly, for making calls with skype for my work. I have yet to find any earbuds that will stay in my ears even when just sitting at my desk, so I have to use an over the ear type headset.

  • Volume structure error -694???

    Ran tech tool cd and it could not fix volume structure error and showed error -694. Does anyone know what this means?
    Just archived and reinstalled OSX yesterday to fix a boot up problem, which it did. But now after doing the needed updates - whenever I try to type something in firefox a gray screen with the power button logo pops up and says I have to restart - and when I try to open multiple documents into photoshop it won't open them - only individually.
    So I figured something must be wrong - and ran the apple hardware test, disk utility and then the tech tool deluxe. Then I got the volume structure error which tech tool could not fix. Could it have something to do with permissions errors? I was trying to fix permissions and everytime I do, I get the same corrections which seems weird. Anyone got any suggestions?
    I have an imac G5 with OSX version 10.3.9. 1.8 Ghz with 768MB Memory.

    The error -694 message means that one part of your hard disk is listed as being part of two or more files; using the Disk Utility's Repair Disk option may identify these files.
    The output of the Repair Permissions command indicates that you're using a version of iTunes which the mechanism can't properly handle, and the others are status messages. You shouldn't be concerned about any of those messages.

  • Database scale error

    When trying to change the scale of our SQL database from S1 to S2 in the new portal I get the following error:
    Database scale error
    Database scale operation from S1 Standard to S2 Standard failed for <DBNAME>. ErrorCode: BadRequest ErrorMessage: The operation is not supported for your subscription offer type.
    Tried again on the old portal and get a similar message:

    This is a pay as you go subscription. Are those not compatible with anything above S1?

    Hi Alex,
    This should not be the case for Pay-as-you go subscription. We might have to verify you subscription details and so request you to raise a technical support request via

  • Mac Disk util did repair my volume header error but why....

    I was wondering what might have caused the Volume header error that I just had to repair? Macheine was never downed... good power.. I am perplexed.

    If it happens once in a while, then it's most likely something "glitched" in the memory. Even good memory can have a bad nanosecond occasionally.
    If it starts happening fairly often then it's usually either bad memory or bad blocks on the hard drive.
    There are third party memory tests and hard drive tests you can purchase or download that will check these things out. What I usually recommend as a starting point for memory tests, though, is the Apple Hardware Test (AHT) that came with your computer.
    For your Mac Pro, I believe it is on the first install disk, Here's how you would run it:
    1. Insert install disk 1 into the computer and then shut down the computer.
    2. Once the computer is shut down, start it up and immediately press and hold down the D key. Don't let go until you see the AHT logo.
    3. Eventually you'll get to a screen with a Test button. Before clicking it put a check mark beside Run Extended Test. This could take quite awhile, especially if you have lots of RAM (the memory test takes the longest). And expect the screen to go all sorts of colors and stuff when it tests the video RAM.
    4. If there are error messages then write them down and call Applecare because it's guaranteed they'll say it needs a repair of some sort.
    If there are no error messages it's not a guarantee there's no hardware problem. If it's an intermittent memory issue, the AHT may not catch it. In that case I recommend running it overnight in "looping mode". This will run the tests over and over and over until you stop it (using Ctrl-C I think) or until it comes up with an error message. To turn on looping mode follow the instructions above but before you click the Test button press Command-L.
    Once again, if there are error messages call Applecare.
    For the hard drive, one thing you can do if you suspect bad blocks (and this is a pain) is to back up all your data and then zero out your hard drive and then reinstall OS X. This will erase everything on the hard drive which is why you want to back up your data first.
    Essentially what that does is writes zeros across the whole hard drive. If it finds a bad block then it marks it as bad and the computer won't store data in that block anymore. A few bad blocks isn't going to take up much space. Blocks are usually measured in KB so it takes a lot to equal even a GB.
    For the hard drive, it's usually best to find software that can scan and test the blocks without erasing anything, though.

  • Volume Scale in MP3 play

    Well I've given in now that Pete Townsend is campaigning about mp3 players causing hearing loss and did some research. If you listen at 85db or less you should be alright. My ZMp I believe has a signal-to-noise ratio rating of 96 decibels. What does this mean? And on the volume scale its from -20 (how can I find the right decibel number from that scale?) Looks like Im gonna get some noise cancelling headphones so I can still listen to music without having to blast the sound to drown out outside noise.

    I can imagine that SSR will be hot on my heals hear (here):smileyvery-happy:
    Now the human (or dogs) ear can here small changes in volume quite easily, say a change in a low volume can be easily recognised, but the louder we go in volume the more power is required to make that change in volume recognisable by the ear, which is why we measure the change in dBs. Decibels are measured logrithmicly. greater changes in power are made at the top of you volume scale (even though you cant here it.)
    INTERESTING POINTS
    The decibel (dB) has been called the 'most misunderstood measurement since the cubit'
    The scale is not linear, but logarithmic
    So it increases exponentially, although the human ear may not percei've this
    A continuous sound at 80dB is 00 times as intense as one at 60dB

    Thank you.

    Thanks Mohammad - much appreciated.
    I also got a response from Apple who said that there was a problem related to fonts and the encryption.xml file
    Once we'd removed this we were able to upload the epub no problem.
    It's odd that the system seems to say that all is okay when it isn't. We have to rely on guesswork rather a lot using iBook Producer.
    Anyway, all sorted now and thank you again for your contribution.
    Best wishes and a Happy New Year!

  • Chart scale error

    I am coding a logging system in labview 7.1
    On the front panel I have several charts. If I try to change the x-scale by typing new end of scale value while running - labview crashes (LV7.1 has encountered an error, please tell Microsoft...)
    If I change the x-scale when the program is not running - labview sometimes crashes.
    The graphs are indicators OWGraph, Wave Height, Temperatures, Flow and in the lower loop, pressure difference.
    The data comes from on demand aquiring from a pci6120 card which runs in one loop - the displaying is handled in another loop (on top in posted code image) except from one chart which needs quicker updates.

    I found the sinner, it cant handle the offset. I use an offset of the number of seconds since 1904... to display the current time on the x-axis. If I plot two or more plots in the chart and use property node-> x-axis.offset it crashes every time I try to manually change the x-axis. I used most of the day figuring this out and the rest of the day to find a workaround. Since I dont use the date - I ended up calculating the smallest number of seconds to put into offset so that the time got right. Because if you wire a constant (any size) into the property node it is no problem - if you wire a time stamp converted to double - it crashes. When I use a probe on the value, it displays it in scientific mode (3,2 e+9) I wouldnt think this is any different than a constant written 3200000000 - but it is the only explanation I have right now - and I am not using one more second to find out - cause my workaround works...
    In the code attached - the timestamp is input to a chart with a single plot, that however causes no problems...

  • Bad file name or volume name error

    Hello All,
    I am currently in a session when all of the sudden, as I arm a track to record and press record i get an error that states..
    "Bad File Name or Volume Name (perhaps zero length)
    Result Code = -37"
    Anybody know how to fix this?

    Same message here whenever i try to do a "save as". I've already repaired permissions. Any other ideas?

  • Subsequent settlement with different volumes (scale and rebate)

    Hi
    A nice question for you all.
    In subsequent settlement I want to do the following:
    Interval scales:
    >$100.000 -> 1% rebate
    >$450.000 -> 2% rebate
    >$600.000 -> 3% rebate
    (this is easy)
    When I want to determine the business volume I want to differentiate between:
    - trucks
    - cars
    Based on the following numbers:
    Annual business volume for trucks: $200.000
    Annual business volume for cars: $300.000
    Total volume: $500.000
    This means the rebate wil fall in the 2% interval.
    BUT.... the rebate is ONLY for cars and NOT for trucks.
    --> 2% of 300.000 = $6.000
    How to do this?
    Regards,
    Arno

    Sangeeta,
    What do you think of the following:
    Build up business volume for every delivery of the supplier and also for the trucks.
    I will make two rebates:
    For the total volume:
    >$100.000 -> -1% rebate
    >$450.000 -> -2% rebate
    >$600.000 -> -3% rebate
    For the trucks volume:
    >$100.000 -> +1% rebate
    >$450.000 -> +2% rebate
    >$600.000 -> +3% rebate
    Since the trucks will be in the +1% rate and the total volume will be in the 2% rate I have to change the interval for the scales condition manually in trx MEU2, but not the price condition. After the comparisation is finished both are in the +/- 2% scale and I can settle the agreement.
    Only one manual step needed, sounds as a fine solution, do you agree?

  • Veritas Volume Manager errors

    I am running a Solaris Ultrasparc Enterprise 450 Server with Solaris 8 operating system. This past weekend, I received the following errors relating to Volumen Management on our disks.
    I need help in understanding what happened and how to fix it. The only thing I found was that 2-3 filesystems were over 90% and I was able to have files removed, and thus reduce the capacity by 20%. But I still would like to know what happened and how to prevent these errors from happening again. I am new to storage management.
    "Failures have been detected by the VERITAS Volume Manager:<br /><br />failed disks:<br /> disk04<br /><br />failed plexes:<br />vol02-02<br />vol04-02<br />vol06-P04<br /><br />These volumes are still usable, but the the redundancy of<br />those volumes is reduced. No replacement was made and the disk is still unusable."
    Please advise. Thanks.

    Out of the 11 or 12 disk drives on the system in question, disk# 8 (c3t1d0) was labeled "unformatted", when I ran the format, analyze, and read commands. Does this mean the disk can be re-formatted or replaced? I will dig into the documenation in the meantime.
    This is the result I get when I run the vxprint -g rootdg -thf command:

  • Cannot optimize volume - Receive error "The specified extrinsic Method does not exist"

    When I try to optimize a volume on a server running Windows Server 2012 (R1). I receive the below error. This volume is an ISCSI target to our Compellent SAN. Other Servers don't have an issue with volumes created on the same SAN and I have already ran ChkDsk
    and it returned no errors. Oddly enough I can run a "Defrag T: /D" but a "Defrag T: /O" returns

    I did stumble upon that article as well and working through it didn't help. This is an Exchange 2013 server but I wouldn't think that that would exclusively cause a problem like this (unless there is something under the hood that Exchange 2013 is secretly
    doing). The C drive is for the OS, the M drive is for the Exchange DB, and the
    T drive is for the Logs.  The C drive is "directly" connected and the M and T drives are on the same SAN (different LUNs) via iSCSI. This is running as a virtual guest on VMWare ESXi v5.5.  I have other servers setup the
    same way (not Exchange servers though) with drives on the iSCSI SAN and there are no issues when I run those Optimize-Volume commands. Here is some more output from the console:

    Dear Bill!
     That is quite a loaded question. Filter design is a whole science by itself, and I don't believe that a non-trivial solution exists in your case.
    What is my desired noise-to signal ratio? What manner of noise do I have? What is an acceptable degradation of signal accuracy (peaks and transients)?
    These are all questions that you most consider, and then shoot for an optimal compromise.
    I would say the easiest solution would be to try and set different thresholds, manual settings and constants, and check the output signal to see what works best for you. Also, keep in mind that the main advantage of wavelet filters is that the can keep sharp edges and transitions while maintaining good noise reduction. Because of this special treatment of meaningful edges, noise that is next to an edge will not be filtered well.
    You can even use more then one filter to target specific frequency areas and problems.
    Please check this whitepaper for more details of ECG signal filtering. There is also quite exellent academic literature on tre subject, for instance here or here.

  • Rebuilds, permissions, volume structure error/fixes ???....

    Just setup a new iMac with OSX4.8 of course. Loaded Adobe suite and MS office. Transferred a bunch of files from my prev Mac G4. So now, only 3 weeks into using it, I've got misc errors that show up when I run Drive Genius or Apple Drive Utility. In fact the Apple Drive Utility failed to repair. Drive Genius seemed to have more success after rebuilding first.
    I'm not a newby to Macs having used them since '84, but I got to say, I'm a little on edge with these file/volume/structure issues or whatever.
    Can one of you experts out there describe in laymen's terms what are these volume/structure/rebuilds/etc error and fixes ? What causes these corruptions in the first place?

    Disk Utility starts to do it's thing then stops and
    shows "failure to complete". So went to Drive Genius
    to do more in depth analysis, the repair routine
    actually showed 3 tries then failure.
    Hi Thomas,
    This looks like you are running Disk Utility from your hard drive and if so, it cannot repair it because it is your startup disk. To repair your startup hard disk, you need to start up from another source like the install disk that you got with your new Mac.
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
    Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. In the left pane, delect your Mac OS X volume. (If you do not see it, click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.)
    4. Along the top of the right pane, Click the First Aid tab.
    5. below, Click Repair Disk. (Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.)
    If it reports any errors, re-run Repair Disk until it reports no errors.
    6. Repair Disk Permissions.

  • Audigy2 ZS installed now getting Windows Volume Control error po

    Installed the Audigy 2ZS with little problems, I had the Audigy HD integrated MB sound on my computer previously.
    Disabled the onboard audio in BIOS, will not let me remove all of the Soundblaster Audigy Advanced MB program. I believe this program is just software that gives it some pseudo Audigy characteristics.
    When I try to remove it I get a SETUP.EXE error and informs me it must close the program.
    The error message i get on startup is VOLUME CONTROL unable to load the interface. Please reinstall the application.
    Any suggestions or tips I would appreciate it.

    Icehouse,
    You might want to uninstall the A2ZS first. That way there won't be any uncertainty about what Creative entries belong to your onboard sound. Most importantly, you need to back up your registry before making changes and be able to restore it if needed. You can get info on that here. There are also registry cleaner utilities you might want to consider. I haven't used these, but here's a comparison of several.
    Another option is to uninstall the A2ZS, remove the card, enable the onboard audio, and try to uninstall it again. If this succeeds, then reinstall the A2ZS. You might want to run drivercleaner after each uninstall.
    If you aren't comfortable making changes to the registry, then I'd advise against that. If it comes to that, is there some place you could take your PC for expert help? You might also contact Dell for instructions for disabling the integrated audio.Message Edited by Katman on 02-0-2006 08:9 PM
