Volume setting in Volume Mixer drops to zero, no matter how I set it.

System:  Toshiba Satellite P305-S8822, Windows Vista, Intel Core 2 T5550 processor, 3072 RAM, 200 GB Hard Disc.
Problem:  The volume drops to zero on its own, very quickly, no matter how I reset it (through the tray icon that looks like a speaker symbol).  I open the Mixer from tray icon and raise to anything, to 100%, or any value much higher than zero, but the volume drops continuously over a few seconds back to zero.
I do not know what to check, or what place to look for which different options, or what to test or what to try installing, uninstalling, reinstalling, or what to repair.  This seems to be the only major problem that I have with this machine.  This problem is less than about one month.  I cannot remember installing any new software on this machine for more than a month.
Any help information might be useful if anyone knows.

It's likely the audio chip has failed on that older machine. But won't hurt to reinstall the driver.

  • Walkman Volume drops to zero when i connect a headset

My walkman Volume drops to zero when i connect a headset. I can adjust the volume settings for media but it snaps right back to zero. When i disconnect the headphone the volume settings work again so i can listen to media like mp3. But i would like to use my headset. Any tips?

    Hi
I believe this has something to do with "Smart Connect" app.
If you don't wanna check on a lot of settings, then clear the data of smart connect app ( settings > smart connect > clear data) and your phone should be working as supposed to, otherwise check on the settings and it's easy.
Run the smart connect app > select "Music on the go" or "Music at home" ( Or any other profile to check) >Select the edit option at the bottom then check the settings if you have set the volumes to minimum when you choose to connect your headsets.
If you find it confusing, just clear the data of app and see if it works for you.

  • Why are all the volume sliders resetting to zero when I enable recording on my tracks?

That's basically all there is to it. I have 8 drum tracks all set at different input levels but when I record-enable the tracks all the volume sliders rest to zero in the mixer. This has never happened before!

I'm having so much trouble with the audio levels in logic pro. It seems every VST has a completely different level when the volume on the vst is set to 100. Miroslav Philharmonik is EXTREMELY quiet..., and when I load drums into ultrabeat, they immediately peak like crazy.
It's one of a the reasons mixers have volume controls.
Seriously - an orchestral instrument is likely to have hundreds of parts all playing at once. If each part was designed to hit close to 0dB, then it would be impossible to do anything as the resultant mix would be massively loud - you'd have to turn everything down all the time.
Drums are probably going to be peaking fairly loud in a mix, as they do contain a lot of the energy.
There is no standard. A mono synth will often have hotter levels than a polysynth part, as the polysynth could be playing 8-32 voices all at once. Also, different patches, and different instruments themselves will be programmed to have different volume levels.
This is all true regardless of DAWs, and is nothing specifically to do with Logic.
All all the instruments, and mixer channels have volume controls, to let you control their volume and place them where they need to be for your needs.

  • Volume slider returns to zero at bootup.

I have an HPE-477c running 64bit Win 7.Everytime I reboot my the PC, the volume control slider (Realtec High Definition Audio Mixer) is at zero.   After re-boot , I adjust the volumn slider to midway, but next time I reboot is back to minimum.  Is there any fix for this?

    Hi kpdandjad,
That is odd. I don't think I've seen this issue before. Obviously some audio software is changing your volume at boot or Windows isn't "remembering" where you set it before closing down. You may want to try updating the audio driver to the latest driver from Realtek. Here is a link to their download site:
    http://152.104.125.41/downloads/
Select "High Definition Audio Codecs", accept the agreement, and then download and install the driver for your OS.
I hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.

  • Firefox volume sharply drops when lid is closed.

I've got a Sager laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium. I'm was trying to listen to music, but every time I closed the lid The volume dropped around 75%. Before anyone asks in my power setting closing the lid does nothing. So I did some looking, in the volume mixer it shows the upper arrow (where the volume was) grayed out and a solid arrow down a decent way. When I close it again, as long as the you didn't click on Firefox's bar the volume stayed constant, but if you moved the solid arrow the grayed arrow vanishes and next time you close the lid it drops again. I've tested it with IE and Chrome, but the problem only happens with Firefox. I'm using firefox 11.0 with the following plug-ins: * NPRuntime Script Plug-in Library for Java(TM) Deploy
    * Next Generation Java Plug-in 1.6.0_24 for Mozilla browsers
    * Shockwave Flash 11.1 r102
    * Pando Web Plugin
    * Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape 10.1.2
    * The plug-in allows you to open and edit files using Microsoft Office applications
    Thanks in advance.

Turns out the issue was a power settings issue.  Turning off all settings for standby and disabling standby when closing the lid resolves this issue.

  • Envy 15 - No audio able to be heard, despite volume mixer showing activity.

I have a HP ENVY 15 Notebook PC (LW897AV), running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1.  It is only a little over a year old as I got it in June 2012, so is still under warranty.  Obviously I'd rather not send it back in if I don't have to.
The day before yesterday I was having no issues, as all normal sounds were present (i.e. Windows start-up/shut-down, as well as able to hear mp3 music played on Media Player).  Yesterday when I started up all was quiet.  I could not hear any system sounds, nor manually force any sounds to be heard.  When I look at the volume mixer, I can see the green bar rising and falling (when playing music) so it seems like the sound is being generated but just not being relayed to the internal speakers and/or headphone jacks.  Likewise when I open the "Sound" window, my default device is the "Speakers and Headphones, IDT High Definition Audio CODEC", and it shows the same activity on the green verticle bars.  I do not use any external speakers.
The audio troubleshooter did not identify any issues.  All drivers/etc appear to be running properly with no problems noted.  I have not installed any new programs in the recent past (but I honestly don't know if some update occured without my knowledge).
Something similar to this happened to me a couple months ago.  Sound randomly disappeared that time too, but came back just as randomly several days later.  Now that it has happened again, I would like to not only fix it but determine the cause so it doesn't re-appear again and again in the future.
Any advise or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  And if there is any further information I should provide to give a better view of the situation, just let me know and I'll do my best.  Thanks!

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp56501-57000/sp56900.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link.
    Chipset Driver - Windows 7.
When this has completed, shutdown the notebook,
Hold down the Power button and Beats button ( together ) for 10 seconds.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

  • No audio device is installed says volume mixer

So suddenly one day the audio on my system just disappears. Little white x on the speaker icon on taskbar, mouse over it and it displays my current audio device and volume 0. Open playback devices and all are enabled and "working". Open volume mixer and "No audio device is installed". In device manager, all audio devices are installed with current drivers and all are "functioning normally". I don't quite understand this contradiction...
Two days later, after searching through hundreds of forum threads and finding that this problem is actually fairly common, I still have not found a solution. This is what I have tried:
Obvious first step for me was to reinstall the audio drivers. No success
    2) Uninstall ALL audio software and drivers, reinstall everything from manufactures websites. No success
    3) try to restore to an earlier configuration. Guess wht, NO RESTORE POINTS. No success
    4) Stop/Start Windows audio service. No success
    5) Open BIOS set up screen. Can not find any audio options at all....(No success)
    6) Download windows Vista service pack 2 (yes, I am running vista), try to install, but every time I try it gets hung up on "Preparing your computer" and stops responding. Yes I have tried to download it multiple times from Windows download center and have also tried to run without saving. Since it never installs, No success.
    7) Download a "fix" for a similar problem arising after waking a system up from hibernation (KB9296850). Didn't  match my problem exactly but thought it was worth a shot. Again, every time I try to install it gets hung up on "searching for updates" and stops responding. Again, downloaded multiple times, run from location, all from microsoft. No success
    8) Desperation setting in. Insert system restore disk. Doesnt work. Tells me its only for use on Acer system. Guess what I AM RUNNING AN ACER SYSTEM. No success
    9) Still have a copy of Windows XP. Insert and boot from the disk. Try to format the HDD and install Windows XP. For some reason does not work. Try multiple times, Will not install on this system. Cant remember the exact error code it gives me. No success
    System Specs:
    Acer Aspire M5620
Intel Core 2 quad CPU 2.4 GHZ each
    Acer proprietary motherboard and bios
Has anyone EVER fixed this problem. I have tried everything, I cant even format my HDD, which I know is not related to the audio problem but still frustrating.
    Thanks

  • Volume Mixer savings not saved in vista on DV3 model 3510 bought through best Buys

I have a dv3 and Iv3e tested this on other units in best buy. The volume mixer refuses to save its settings through a reboot. For instance if you set the internet devices at 50% volume they wont be saved through a reboot. I cant get an answer how to save these settings. Some of the other hp model laptops dont have this problem. Please help on this as Ive googled it and come up empty. How can I save the volume mixer settings in vista????

people complaining about problems installing an office over another office are (dare i say it) stupid. it makes absolutely no sense installing one over the trial version. just uninstall the trial and you'll be fine. every single time.
as for problem with uninstalling mcafee (or any other antivirus, for that matter, just download the uninstaller from the software company e.g. http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS100507 for mcafee.
that said i believe you get to choose if you want mcafee and/or office when you go through the inital boot, the "on-screen instructions"
you can slow down the odd via power manager

  • Music volume keeps dropping on my iPhone 6 when using both headphones and AirPlay

when playing music on my iPhone 6, sometimes the volume will drop for reason at all. Fortunately it doesn't happen too often, but when I'm driving and it dones happen, I can bearly hear it. It corrects itself completely at random too. Please help, it's an annoying problem.

Try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose any data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!  JohnWhite,
I understand that your speakers on your HP Pavilion g7-2325dx Notebook PC continues to emit sound when you plug your headphones in and that you got an error stating "audio device isn't set as default". I will try my best to help you with this.
    Try the following steps.
    1. Click Start
    2. Go to Control Panel
    3. Select "Hardware and Sound"
    4. Select "Sound"
    5. Right click the box and choose "Show Disabled Devices"
    6. Make sure that your audio device is enabled for your notebook. It should have a green check mark.
    7. Then in your Audio system under the Enhancements tab, check the box for "disable all enhancments".
If this does not resolve your issue, then I suggest reinstalling the audio software and driver Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 8).
I hope this information helps, please let me know how it goes.
Take care and have a great day!

Go to your home screen, and then press the volume down or up button. It should say Ringer instead of volume. If it doesn't do that, try going into the clock app and try it there.

  • Volume not saving in the Window's volume mixer. Resets back to 100% [Adobe Flash Player]

This problem is rustling my jimmies hardcore
Everytime I restart Firefox or Internet Explorer "Adobe Flash Player 11.3" always resets back to 100% in the Window's volume mixer while everything else stays put.
My Skype volume never resets after a restart, my Firefox volume never resets after a restart, my WMP/VLC players never reset after a restart. Why does this

Why does firefox show up as a plugin on volume mixer? After updating a flash plugin into firefox (when it had requested me to update it), it no longer shows up as firefox in volume mixer. It now shows up as some plugin icon. I really don't understand this, and wish it to be the firefox icon again. What is going on and what happened? It names itself "Plugin Container For Firefox" What does that mean? It has been this way ever since, and nothing I have done has fixed this. Restarting, refreshing, reinstalling, clearing cache, etc. Can anyone think of something please? :(

  • Siri problem: volume suddenly drops and screen goes dark when turning phone

Hi, just wondering if anyone else has or had this problem. It's been hard to quantify, but here goes.
A number of time, when I  use siri, I will hold the button down to ask a question. Sometimes the volume will drop to a very quiet level so I can barely hear the response. Then the volume will pop right back up to its normal volume. The screen also goes black at this time, and when the volume pops back up, the screen will show the normal info it should at that time, such as what I said, or the clock if I asked for the time, or siri's quote, etc.
Many times I will pick up my phone from a flat surface and turn it on its side as if making a call, and that is when this will happen, as opposed to me holding it flat. It also seems to occur in the morning, when the phone has been asleep overnight or it may be from cooler morning temps.
Any ideas as to whether this is a hardware problem? I've only had the phones couple of months. It's happened so many times now I'm finally seeing this pattern I described.
    Thank you for any feedback!
Ps... I've never had this problem with my ipad 3rd gen, even though I've truest to recreate the conditions, turning it, trying first thing in the morning and so on.
