Volume Settings

Every second day the volume setting which controls hearing voicemails turns itself down for high to low. Why does this happen and what can be done to stop the volume altering itself?

The audio volume is a property of the QuickTime file
and can't be adjusted except via the volume slider
(part of the QuickTime controller) or by your total
Sound System Preferences adjustments.
Since each file is different no "one" setting will
work with all files.
The "Up/Down" arrow keys can control playback volume.
A QuickTime file inside a browser window may need to
be clicked once before the keyboard takes control of
focus.
BUT WHY MUST IT BE THAT WAY, IE, NOT BE USER CONFIGUREABLE? I'VE BEEN LOOKING EVERYWHERE FOR A DEFINITIVE ANSWER. WHY IS IT THAT I/WE CANNOT SET THE QUICKTIME PLAYER *DEFAULT VOLUME* AS A USER PREFERENCE?
Whenever I click on a multimedia file and forget about reducing the player's volume level from its 100% default setting, well, sometimes it can make me jump off of the chair and it can wake up the whole household at night. I'm also very concerned it might one day blow up my high-power hifi stereo and speakers. Does Applecare cover that?
As everyone knows, volume levels vary greatly from file to file, and therefore it's not a good enough solution to rely on the adjustment of the system sound by itself. As the end user, I find the default level of 100% on Quicktime Player to be too dangerous. The other media players are more user-friendly that way, so why can't QP be too? Please, Quicktime, fix it.
Clearly, Apple rocks. Keep up the good work.

  • Volume settings not retained

    Hi guys,
I have been having a problem with my Mac Book from the start. According to what I have read on the Internet my Intel based Mac Book should retain volume settings separately for my headphones and my internal speakers.
Meaning that once I have changed the settings for the volumes it should set the correct volume if I connect my headphones or use my internal speakers. This does happen and work normally.
However after restarting my Mac Book volume settings are not retained and once I connect my headphones the volume is set to 56%. Similarly this happens for my internal speakers as well.
This also describes my problem http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?t=88936
Could someone help me out with this, I have already reset my PRAM and NVRAM
So the option described on this page does not work for me.

I have suffered this problem too.
Both pair of my headphones, one came with iPod, are loud enough at 6%.
56% is surely going to kill my ears.
I've been googling around and found no solution.
But this is not the most depressing thing.
Let's take a look at this

Obviously Apple was aware of this problem two years ago. And the only solution is to "adjust the volume level and balance as desired after restarting the computer."
    Waht the __?!
This is not even a real solution.
Why wounldn't OS X just remember custom volume settings for headphones?
When are you going to correct this issue any way?

  • Volume Settings Change on Reset

Volume Settings Change on ResetZ Randomly when I reset, the volume settings all 'max out' and refuse to change in the Creative Audio Console, despite what I do to change them. It is not shown in any menus, but you can hear that it is this way.
This then leads to weird noises as all the volume is too high for the features to work right. The only way I can get around this is to manually change the volume on everything when I use it (obviously not going to do this) after each reset/power-on, or I have to set it to default and change the settings again (gets annoying fast).
Anyone know why it would be doing this? It seems software related to me, rather than hardware.

I "feel your pain", having had this issue on average every 3 months or so. Sometimes it will spontaneously fix itself. I tried deleting the Home/Library/Mail/Mailboxes Outbox.mbox folder followed by closing and reopening Mail which worked for a very brief time only, then became an issue once more. I have 2 accounts in gmail.com which are the current outgoing server issues. One of them works and the other doesn't. Now when I create a new note there are 2 text boxes in the from area of the note all of a sudden.
This is a real problem because if I send mail using the other server, my business accounts will not recognize the incorrect server now being used by Mail to send all my outgoing as the address is not the one associated with my accounts.

Have you tried the restart/reset/restore troubleshooting path?  That would be the best initial set of steps to take, particularly in a situation like this.

  • "Audio Mix" volume settings premiere elements 10 not "sticking"

The "Audio Mix" volume settings that I set after adding a soundtrack to video in premiere elements 10 have stopped working and are no longer "sticky". I am running premiere elements on a Macbook pro with about 100GB free disc space and 8MB RAM. The volume settings adjusted using "Audio Mix" would previously "stick" as adjusted. I have not altered anything in how I adjust the volumes but "Audio Mix" has suddenly stopped functioning.  Both the soundtrack and main captured audio track maintain full volume despite adjustment. I have tried to restart the computer and reload the program to no avail.

    Correct.
I used to be able to adjust the volume with the Audio Mixer "on the fly" with the video playing and it would stay adjusted (as depicted in the tutorials). This no longer happens. The Mixer used to generate keyframes automatically. It no longer appears to generate keyframes and the volume remains at baseline for all the tracks.
I have not tried to manually set the volume level by dragging it and creating audio keyframes on it yet. I will try this but the videos are long with multiple fade ins and fade outs and this would likely be too laborious to accomplish.

  • Why is my iphone automatically lowering ringer & incall volume settings?

My wife and I purchased our iphones from two different AT&T stores. The volume setting keeps lowering itself to the lowest setting for both the ringer and in-call conversations. I actually saw it in action the other day. I looked at the screen and the ringer icon appeard showing full volume. Then it automatically lowered itself, deleting the small white square (that indicate volume setting) from right to left until there was only one square remaining on the left.
Does anyone know what is causing this and how to fix it?

I think it has something to do with "Sound Check" ... There's a setting under iPod with an On/Off slider labeled Sound Check. The manual describes it as "Set iPhone to use the iTunes volume settings" (p.65).
I had a problem where, the volume level would drop down by itself to a very low level, making my ringer sound barely audible. I was missing calls all over the place! Well, it turns out that in iTunes > Preferences > Playback, there is a "soundcheck" check-box. Soundcheck apparently adjusts the volume of your computer so that one audio track sounds as loud as another, even if they were recorded at different levels.
My theory, which I'm still testing with my iPhone (so far so good!), is to uncheck Soundcheck in iTunes, and turn off the on/off slider for the iPhone's iPod Soundcheck setting. What I think might be happening is that something about Soundcheck on the iPhone is not working right, perhaps the Soundcheck thinks the iPhone stock ringer tones have a sound level that is way top high, and so Soundcheck is compensating by setting the volume level on the iPhone super-low.
And with Soundcheck off in iTunes and on the iPhone, I'm not noticing any volume issues ... if the volume of some podcast is too low, I manually turn up my laptop or iPhone volume, big deal!
This may be a situation in which an automatic feature designed to eliminate the need for the user to do something that is not a big bother anyway, causes more unexpected problems than it solves.
So, so far, this has worked for me, but I want to give it a few days just to make sure something else isn't also in play. I'd love to hear if my theory and turning off Soundcheck everywhere solves the volume-level-drops-by-itself-on-the-iPhone mystery!

  • EE Harrier ringtone too quiet even with volume settings on max, any suggestions

I have recently upgraded to a EE harrier and a Harrier mini for my wife.On both phones the ringtones are very quiet even with the volume settings set on maximum. This is causing us to miss calls and messages as the ringtones are just too quiet.Ive tried ringtone booster apps but have yet to find one that works.Any suggestions ?

    Hi
    Welcome to the Community!
It might sound daft but have you tried a few of the different ringtones to see if any are louder?
How long have you had the devices for and where did you do the upgrades?
    Thanks.

  • Apps ignoring iphone volume settings

I don't know if this goes in iPhone or iOS.  I was in a restaurant viewing my Facebook newsfeed and accidentally clicked a video that started playing at full volume.  I pushed the mute button but that didn't stop the sound.
I turned the volume on the phone all the way down using the buttons but that didn't make a difference.  Same thing happened with Pandora.
There are at least 2 apps on my iPhone 5 that did not respect the volume settings on the phone (set with the buttons and mute switch).
Is this the apps' fault, iOS or the phone?

It's the app's fault.  Delete the app then reinstall it.  If the issue remains, contact the app developer.

  • My Ipad Mini won't remember my app volume settings

I bought an ipad mini about 2 months ago, and have been having trouble with it not remembering the volume settings in my game apps.  I prefer to keep all my apps muted, but when I exit out of any of them and then return (sometimes only after a minute or two), the volume will turn itself back on.  This has been occurring since day 1 with some of the apps, and now it's happening with another after I turned the volume on, then decided to put it back on mute.  I can't figure out what's going on, any suggestions?

If you want mute and u put switch on to mute below ur ipad at the back, make sure in settings> general>find say use side switch to.... select mute ,so u just control from switch button to turn off or on

  • Incoming call volume settings when locked

Hi, I have the Iphone 5, for some reason incoming calls when the phone is locked are mute or on vibration. When the phone is unlocked it rings normally.
Can someone please advise how I change the volume settings on the phone when its locked? I keep missing phone calls when its locked.
Secondly, how do I change my email address?
    Many thanks

When you unlock the phone and are looking at the home screen, if you press the up or down volume button, what do you see? It should say ringer, then a bar at the bottom showing how far the volume is turned up.
The ability to change those settings in Do Not Disturb are only available when Do Not Disturb is turned on, and they are only active when Do Not Disturb is on, not when it is off.
Secondly, make sure the mute switch on the side of the device is not turned on to block the ringing. See this fugure.

  • ? about volume settings and decibels

ive been importing some mp3's to iTunes and then converting them to AAC files. but once i convert them, i notice the AAC files are quite a bit quieter than the original mp3's. ive been using AAC encoder at 128kbps under the High Quality Settings.
heres an example: i just converted a mp3 of 96kbps into an AAC using the high quality settings of 128kbps. now i have sound check on, and for the original mp3 file under Get Info it says Volume -5.8dB.
The AAC says Volume -8.3dB. I listenend to both and heard that the AAC is QUITE a bit QUIETER than the mp3.
if AAC is supposedly better then why is it quieter than the LOWER mp3 settings? Basically, the AAC file is quiter but bigger in size?
Does anyone know why the conversion is liek this or what those Volume settings i mentioned about mean?

I don't have any comment on the "volume" issue, but in general I advise against converting from one format to another unless absolutley necessary.
Since the original file is MP3, it's alredy been compressed - meaning audio data has been discarded in the process of making the mp3 file. Converting to AAC means another run through a compressor, and therefore even more lost data. The file will not sound better than the original, it's technically impossible.

  • Bootcamp Volume Settings

So i am runing windows on it via. bootcamp; and i am finding the volume (PAH!) sounds very annoying; so is there a way to turn off the sounds on it without you hearing it; like i want to be able to toogle volume on both my mac side and windows 7 volume settings (up/down) without having to hear that paH! sound every time.

Hi macwzrd, I followed your procedure and... IT WORKS!! I rebooted several times now, and I still have a true black sound icon in the menu bar. So the issue seems to be fixed, thanks!
BUT now, _coreaudiod process is taking *much* of my cpu resources (136 coreaudiod _coreaudiod 114,7 5 3,4 MB Intel (64 bit)) and the fan keeps turning on and on like mad...
Any ideas on how to stop this strange behaviour?

  • HT204387 Has anyone found a solution to bluetooth pairing iPhone 6 with Toyota Camry volume settings?

When using the iPhone 5 and pairing with 2013 Toyota Camry, the bluetooth settings are normal.
When changing to an IPhone 6, there is a problem.
When the phone goes to bluetooth in the car, the volume setting is triggered to increase to top volume of 60.
When we change the setting via directions of Toyota to change the phone volume, the volume goes down but is not reset.
When the phone is paired upon entering the car, the volume goes right back to 60.
Toyota states they have not tested the new phone yet and do not have any solutions.
    Help?
    Linda

  • Volume settings can't save

    Hi everyone,
After my upgrade from 10.5 to 10.6, the settings which i make to my volume can't be saved. Example: It seems when I adjust the volume for my mic/speaker to 100% (previously 50%) and the next time I power up the mac or reboot, the latest setting which I used on 10.5 kicks in, which was volume at 50%. Is anyone having the same issue? It isn't a big bug, but it's not like apple to leave such an error.

Well, unfortunately...it doesn't. Thanks for the reply though. Deleting the folder did permanently save your volume at 50%...so even if you changed it and reboot, it will go back to 50%. Although your advice did give me an idea. Because i am always using the volume @ 100%, i just copied the audio folder from my macbookpro and placed it in my imac's preferences, reboot and i have full volume every i start up ^^
    Thanks for the hint!~

  • Microphone volume settings in the FP settings panel are ignored until changed.

When coding a streaming app, we've been noticing a bug in Flash Player where the microphone volume in the Flash Player settings panel is being effectively ignored, in lieu of some sort of default volume, until the user goes into the settings panel and actually changes it.  The user has to do this pretty much every single time the page loads, and simply incrementing by about 1% tends to increase the volume by a very significant degree.  Furthermore, if the user then decrements the volume in the settings panel by about 2% or so, thereby decreasing it below what it was originally, the volume still tends to be much louder than at first.
The actual volume of the microphone is always being set at some sort of relatively low default, no matter what the meter in the settings panel specifies; but as soon as the user goes in and does anything in that panel, then until they go to another page or something in their browser, the microphone's actual volume will conform to the volume meter in the settings panel.  If they continue to change their settings, the microphone will adapt accordingly and proportionately - it just won't actually start off doing so.
What gives?  Nothing exotic is being done to the microphone volume in the code - just stuff like setting the gain property within the proper range.  We've tried restarting the browser after saving a different volume, deleting the contents of the sys folder to replace the settings.sol files, upgrading the Flash Player we were using, simply left-clicking the page to make sure it was fully in focus, etc.  Is there a work-around or a way to avoid this issue?  Thanks!

Being as it's completely impossible to write code for embedded Flash content with Flash Player, wouldn't this question be better asked in the Flash Professional or Dreamweaver forum, where there people much more skilled at editing embed code?

  • Microphone too quiet in Windows 8.1 all volume settings maxed out.

Hello, about a two months ago I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1 and after that, my microphone in Skype doesn't hear me unless it is maxed out and I am shouting. It works without problems in Windows/other applications (Windows Sound Recorder, Teamspeak 3, Portal 2 ingame voip, ...) So my specifications are following:Windows 8.1 Pro 64bitSkype 6.16Headset Sennheiser PC 360 http://www.alfacomp.cz/php/product.php?eid=105HK5000000000ZFKMotherboard Asus P8Z77-M Screenshots of my settings are attached  And here is what i tried to doo:1) Updated Skype and alter reinstalled Skype.2) complete uninstall and install of Skype according to this https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA10634/how-can-i-completely-uninstall-and-then-reinstall-skype-for-windows-desktop3) tried different driver versions (latest version for W7, W8 and W8.1) from here http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8Z77M/HelpDesk_Download/, latest available from http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/ (version 6.0.1.7246) and even these which Windows Update installed.4) Tried Skype App for Windows 8 (enabled permissions for microphone and webcam)5) Tried different microphone.6) Chatted with Skype support and went through their checklist of settings to make sure I didn't forget anything Any help would be appreciated.

i am having the same problem here is what i tried i have tried trouble shooting this problem many ways but it never quite works. i will list what i have done so far. 1) tested with another mic. same effect 2) maxed the mic volume in the skype settings 3) tested with another audio recording software. mic still works great 4) tried resetting everything i could think that would help (computer, skype, skype settings) 5) when i tried resetting skype settings by going into appdata and changing the skype file into Old_Skype forcing skype to reload its settings, it would appear to work wonderfully when i started up the software. it would walk me through the setup settings and the bar that shows mic volume was going up to my voice as it normally does. then after setup and i get into a test call, my mic is back to sounding incredebly quiet. 6) i went into sound setting and tried many combinations concerning mic boost which was already up, tried disableing software setting override, tried disableing all sound effects. all still nothing. i am using a turtle beach x12 but that shouldent be the problem because a logitech i have is having the same problem. i am running on windows 8.1 i have tried skype calls with friends they all say my mic is very quiet. much much quieter than normal, even when yelling into the mic. if i think of anything else you may need or if you ask for it i will add to the post.thank you all Edit: after more testing i may have discovered the problem. skype is only detecting my onboard mic and is trying to use that (im using a laptop). how can i get skype to detect my turtle beach headset? other programs seem to just fine Edit 2: disreguard the first edit. when speaking into the mic in a way that the on bord mic wouldn't be able to pick up, skype got the sound i was sending into my headset mic. still quietly but somewhat louder because i was closer to the mic on the headset
