I have exactly the same problem on xsan 1.4.2 and macosx 10.4.11, except in my case all fsm service craches. This began to happen after 1.4.1->1.4.2 and 10.4.10->10.4.11 update respectively. Anyone?

  • My volume stopped working

My iphone 4- volume stopped working.  I cant hear my phone ring, cant hear text messages or my alarm, and cant play music either. If I see call coming in I can hear and talk.

Can you be a bit more specific?
Is it limited to your volume buttons, or is the GUI volume control also affected?
What OS version  are you running? Was there anything that precipitated the problem?

    Hi, seadarunner.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I would need more information on what you mean by your EarPods are not working to provide a better answer.  However, here is an article that may help with this issue.

  • My Iphone 3G doesn't go on vibrate when lower the volume, the volume stops short at the first bar, why?

Can someone please help me figure out how or why my iphone 3G doesn't go on vibrate or silent? It stops lowering the volume at the first litle bar in the volume.
also, I had not changed that I can remember some of the settings, but all of a sudden the "do not disturb" setting is in my computer and my iphone and I am puzzled. The "get incoming calls only form favorites was checked out and don't remember doing that wither" I keep checking my settings because I am somewhat scared of these activiies and I could not get my phone to go on vibrate, and under "do not disturb" I got the SILENCE option checked as: "Only while Iphone is locked"  The note says that incoming calls and notifications will be silenced while iphone is locked. This is just so confusing. Why do I need my phonce calls silenced while my phone is locked? I don't. Anyway, please help me discern all of this if you can. Thanks.

First you don't have an iPhone 3G because Do not disturb is not a function for that phone.
Two, the vibration can be activate from Settings > Sounds > Vibrate on silent & Vibrate on Ring
Three, turn off everything in Settings > Do not Disturb
    Keep me posted

  • Email alert volume; Stopping deletion of mail from mailboxes

Hi--Is there any way to turn up the volume of the email alert on my earthlink acct, the account came with the MB PRo.
Also, is there any way to stop the deletion of mail from mailboxes I've created. You can stop deletion from the Inbox or whatever, but I lost important mail I'd put them in a new mailbox and poof they went, without warning, no advisory, ****.

    OK great.
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup

  • Volume stopped working on my macbook pro

sound stopped working yesterday on my macbook pro, Does not work with head phones either. Is it the sound card?

    Some things to try:
Go to System Preferences/Sound/output and check if if you can select built in. Make sure volume is up, and mute is not checked
Try taking a set of headphones and plugging them in and out several times (there is a micro switch that sometimes gets stuck)
Go to applications/utilites/Audio MIDI set up check and see if built in is selected, if possible try to select it, make sure volume is up and mute is not checked.
    Try a NVRAM/PRAM reset:
Power off, power back on holding  OPTION + COMMAND + P + R   keys
Hold until you hear the start chime 2 times, then release,  reboot

  • Remote volume stops working but still changes channels

my remote volume will stop working after a while and i always would reprogram it.  fios told me all i have to do is press "tv" and "volume" same time and it will work.  this isn't working? anyone have remedy?

There are many considerations for these remote control issues. The Verizon  Supplied (Motorola or Phillips made) remote controls are designed to first work the cable company’s set-top-box, and then operate as many TV’s on the planet that it possibly can. Meaning it might never quite bas a good with your TV as the remote that came with the TV.
Still there’s hope! Especially if it used to work! Here’s some things to try…
1.) Is it possible the remote got switched from one room to another? Think of these cable-company supplied “universal” remotes as being married to the TV not the set-top-box.
2.) Try fresh batteries, the TV may need more “punch” from the remote than the set-top-box.
3.) Re-Program the remote, instructions for this are at:
    http://netservices.verizon.net/portal/link/help/item&objId=14933
for the black Phillips remote or at
    http://netservices.verizon.net/portal/link/help/item&objId=14934
if you have the gray colored Motorola remote

  • Feedback When Changing Volume Stopped Working

I have "Play feedback when volume is changed" checked in System Preferences > Sound > Sound Effects, but this has stopped working when I use the volume keys on my Apple keyboard. I would try trashing the appropriate preferences, but I can't find the right preferences file. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Emily

I had to shut down my iMac because of a thunderstorm, and when I turned the computer back on, the feedback was working again.

  • Volume stops playing sometimes when skimming event library

While skimming clips in the event library, occasionally the volume will stop working, i.e., there's no sound, making it very difficult to properly select and edit clips for the project pane. The only way I've been able to fix this is to quit, and restart, iMovie.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

    Hi
Sounds like a corrupted iMovie pref file.
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Delete iMovie pref file
    iMovie pref file resides.
    Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
and is named. (one or more of these)
    com.apple.iMovie.plist
    com.apple.iMovie3.plist
    com.apple.iMovie7.plist
    com.apple.iMovie8.plist
    and find
    com.apple.iApps.plist
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this/these file/s out to desk-top.
    Now restart iMovie.
    • Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Garageband-fix. Start it, Play a note and Close it. Re-try (Corrects an audio problem that hinders iMovie)
    • Screen must be set to Million-colors
    • Turn off Mac and disconnect Mains/Power for 20-30 minutes - will at least re-set FW-port
    • Third party plug-ins that doesn't work OK (not relevant for iMovie’08 or 09)
    • Problems in iPhoto Library can affect iMovie to crash on start-up. Re-build this first then try to re-start iMovie.
    This You do by
    _ close iPhoto
    _ on start up of iPhoto - Keep {cmd and alt-keys down}
_ now select all five options presented
_ WAIT a long long time
    • iMovie updated ?

    • Mac OS version ?
    • Program miss-match. iMovie 4 - will not work under Leopard
    • Program miss-match. iMovie 5.0.2, up to Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK
    • Program miss-match. iMovie 6.0.3 or 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (will work under Leopard and Snow-Leopard)
    • Program miss-match. iMovie’08 v. 7.1.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (will work under Leopard and Snow-Leopard)
    • Program miss-match. iMovie’09 v. 8.0.6, Mac OS X.5.8 AND QuickTime 7.6.4 - is OK (will work under Leopard and Snow-Leopard)
From LKN 1935. (in this case = iMovie HD (5), I tried it all, but nothing worked.
Your answer (above) has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that
there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled
iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos)
to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before.
    Lennart Thelander
I run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac.

  • Burning .avi file - volume stops?

I am using iDVD 08 to burn a large .avi file with .mp3 sound. The file plays perfectly in Quicktime on my Mac, but when I burn it with iDVD (Professional Quality) it plays fine for about 5 minutes but after that the audio stops for some reason. I still get the video playing but the audio gives out, is this some bug in iDVD or is something else wrong?
    Thanks!

Try the following basic trouble shooting steps that are mentioned on many posts.
    Save as a disk image
Burn disk image using Disk Utility at a slower speed (2x or 4x)
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93006
    Use DVD-R (not +/-RW or +R)
    Use Maxcell or Verbatim disks
    Hope that helps

  • Why does my volume stop working?

When I open music on my iPhone 4S, I choose a song and the volume control is grey. It will not play out loud or through my headphones even though it says it's playing. I have tried to reset my phone and have called apple. I have no idea what to do. It comes in waves. One second myosin won't play and then it works fine. But only for seconds before returning to the grey volume control

Go to Apple menu / About This Mac / More Info... / System Report ...
Under Hardware (left column) select audio. This is what I see:
Do you see the items listed on the right? If you do not, it is a hardware problem.
(Mine is a MB Pro, but you should see pretty much the same on a Macbook.)

  • Volume stopped working...

Recently I used my headphones in my iPad and since then, the volume does not work on anything. I noticed at first it said headphones on the volume control but there were no headphones attached. I turned it on and off and nothing. I reset all the setting back to factory, nothing. When I go into settings, its turned on and if I switch the sound effects, I hear those just fine. But nothing else works... no games, music, allerts... nothing. Does anyone know what is going on?
I am using the first iPad... 64gb 3G.
    Thanks...

  • Volume in my iPod stop working?

My iPod volume stop working. There is no voice except the ring tone.
    Would u please help. Thanks

    Do the headohones work?
    Try the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod
If still problem then time for an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Time Machine volume no longer shared on network

In my setup, I have a PowerMac G5 with two 1TB drives (running the latest Leopard) and a MacBook Pro (October 2008) running the latest Snow Leopard. I use the second drive in the G5 as a Time Machine drive for both itself and the MBP.
Ever since a few days ago, the MBP has been unable to connect to the backup drive. If I try browsing the G5's volumes, the main drive and my home account share appear, but the TM drive doesn't appear in the share list at all.
The G5 continues to be able to back up to itself, and I've run Disk Utility "verify disk" on the TM drive which hasn't found anything wrong.
I also have a G4 Mac mini running the latest Leopard and is also unable to see the TM drive. So, I'm fairly certain that something is wrong on the G5 which is preventing the TM drive from being shared.
I haven't found any telling messages in Console on any of the three systems.
Has anyone run into this and, ideally, managed to fix it?
    Thanks.

Oh, and I just realized that the volume stopped being shared when I last rebooted the G5 (probably for some software update) - the MBP's last successful backup was on 12/2/09 at 10:43 PM, and the G5 was last rebooted on 12/2/09 at about 11 PM.

  • Why does my volume not work

A couple of days ago my phone volume stop working. When I call it works fine, everything doesn't work. I tried to restore my phone but it didn't work and then I disabled my restrictions but nothing changed. I do not know what to do.

Is it your volume buttons that don't work or just the sound? If its your volume buttons, then that's a hardware problem. If its the sound, check to see if your phone is on mute by double tapping the home button and swiping to the right.
