Volume too low on ringer and with hands-free headsets

Both the ringer's volume and the volume within headsets are too low in my new Droid X. When holding it to my ear while talking it is loud enough well below max volume, but hearing people through headsets while driving is often too low with all volumes set to max (on loud freeways, for example). I usually keep my phone's ringer on silent vibrate, but it would be nice to be able to turn it up louder when the phone is sitting on a desk at home. Cell phone ringers can be obnoxiously loud, but there are times when people need to have them turned up.
Because it is an issue in both the ringer speaker and the jack for wired headsets, it seems like there is a good chance of getting a software fix to raise the max volume levels. Reading posts on forums, it seems clear that this problem is widespread in most, if not all, Droid X devises.
If you are having similar problems, please take a moment to call both Verizon and Motorola with a polite report of the issue. I spoke with both today and they said they were aware of the issue, and the tech at Motorola said they were "looking into" a software fix for it. If enough people call and report it, we have a better chance of getting a fix sometime soon.
Verizon's support line is: (800) 922-0204.
Motorola's is: (800) 734-5870 (I chose #6 for "other issues" a couple of times after routing into Droid support to get a live tech)
It can be frustrating to filter through the support systems and report it, especially if they tell you to try obvious things like rebooting the phone and turning the volume up, but it really is the only way to get them to fix this issue. Both techs I spoke with actually looked in their systems right away and acknowledged the issue is being reported by people.
Of course, if anyone has a real solution to this issue, please let us know what it is!

Thanks for the suggestion JKramer. I should have been more clear about having adjusted all volumes up in the settings screen. Assuming all sound options are located within the "Settings --> Sound & Display" screen, then yes, I have tried changing them. I have also tried changing the option to "use incoming call volume for notifications" under the "ringer volume" settings, after reading that someone had success in improving volume that way.
This issue is not a problem all of the time. It is only an issue when there is an elevated level of background noise, such as driving on the freeway, or having music or a movie playing in the room.
The phone is otherwise excellent! I live and commute in areas of very spotty reception (with all cell providers), and this phone will keep calls and not even have voices garble where my past two phones have consistently dropped calls in at least five problem locations. So far, everything else about it seems to work great!
Maybe some of these phones don't have this issue. Or, maybe the people who say they don't encounter the problem are lucky enough to live in relatively quite environments most of the time. In a quiet house or office, it is certainly loud enough. It just needs to have the option for increased volume when in noisy places. The issue is that its "max volume" settings are not as loud as with other phones.

  • Volume too low on 6300, and listening to podcasts

I believe this question has been asked so many times, but is there ANY way to make the allowable volume any higher on headsets? I'd like to listen to music while riding my bicycle and even the sound of the damn tires on the road is louder than the max volume settings.
Only workaround I found is to use a custom equalizer and bump up all frequency bands. Sound then kinda sucks.
Last, I tried listening to podcasts, but the audio playing interface is a joke: try fast forwarding into a 20 min podcast ... you can't! The fast forward button moves 6s forward every 2s. Oh that's fast! NOT!
I wonder how Nokia believes they can ever displace Apple's iPod if they can't even get the most BASIC function right. For frak's sake, my 30 year old cassette Walkman does fast forward right!
I'm FACEPALMing just thinking about those Nokia suits at the next marketing meeting, scheming on how they're going to take over the world of MP3 players and all that, but little do they know that their l33t engineers can't even do FF right!

  • IOS 8.1.1 - Issues with hands free (Parrot MKi9100)

    Dear Community...
I have updated my iPhone 5 to iOS 8.1.1.  Exactly since that day I am experiencing an issue with my in-car hands free kit (Parrot MKi9100):
Normally, while the iPhone and the hands free kit are connected, whenever the iPhone makes a sound (be it phone-calls, music, notifications or the text-to-speech function), the hands free kit jumps in, muting my car radio and playing the iPhone-Sound over the car speakers.
On iOS 8.0, that would only function with phone-calls, any other sound was not transferred to the hands free kit.
On iOS 8.1, the issue was fixed, and everything worked fine.
On iOS 8.1.1 the following happens: Whenever I wake my iPhone (i.e. pressing home-button or sleep-wake button, even without unlocking the phone) the hands free kit jumps in and mutes the radio... although the iPhone is not about to make a sound... This also happens, when the iPhone is switched to silent mode. Whenever the iPhone-Display is switched on, this will mute my car radio, as if the hands free kit was awaiting a sound from the iPhone.
This makes it impossible to enjoy the car radio and using the phone (of course only the passenger will use the phone, while I'm driving... I am a responsible driver...)
But nonetheless: Is there any known fix?
@apple: If not, will this be fixed with 8.1.2?
    Thanks and best regards

  • Compatibility between the iPhone 6 and certain vehicles, and the hands free connectivity in those vehicles?

How can I findout about the compatibility between the iPhone 6 and certain vehicles, and the hands free connectivity in those vehicles?
I am interested in the iPhone 6 but have several meetings that have to call into for work.  Where can I find out about the compatibility with iPhone 6 and if there are issues I need to be aware of for connecting to hands free option in the car?
Please point me to the right direction. The dealership was useless in helping me. I figured Verizon can be more helpful.

        ShaM1,
I understand the importance of the bluetooth compatibility between your new device and your car.  What make and model is your vehicle?
Here is the information that Verizon Wireless has on Bluetooth Car Kit compatibility; http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/how-to-use-bluetooth-car-kit-compatibility/.  However, Apple does not have any information listed here.  We can assume that the latest and greatest iPhone 6 has the technology to be compatible with most vehicles.  If you'd like to discover further information I'd suggest contacting Apple directly; 800-275-2273.

  • Does my iPhone 4 work with Hands Free Profile (HFP)?

My new car is supposed to send/receive text messages via the new fandangled stereo/navigation unit.  The manual says the phone must be compatible with "Hands Free Profile (HFP)" or Message Access Profile (HFP)".  Does the iPhone4 use/have this?  New car is a 2012 Subaru Impreza with the Nav system.
    Thanks.

It supports HFP 1.5 (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3647).

  • Recommend BT dongle that supports HSP (hands free-headset) profile?

Can anyone recommend a third-party Bluetooth USB dongle that does support the HSP profile for hands-free headsets?
I recently bought the Kensington USB Bluetooth 2.0 (model# 33348) dongle and it sadly doesn't support HSP profile. I'm ******.

HSP is not supported on the Mac. You are looking for the HS (Headset) Bluetooth profile. You should go for a D-Link DBT-120 Bluetooth USB adapter for this. Do not go for a DBT-122.

    Hi @MayurJoshi ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your  HP Pavilion 15-p027tx Notebook and playing sound too low. Here is a document on troubleshooting sound.
Please make sure your updates have been done on the Notebook. In the device manager under sound right click and update the driver. Here is another step to try.
    1. Right click the Speaker icon in the bottom right corner by your time.
    2. Click Playback Devices.
    3. Click Speakers/Headphones.
    4. Click Properties.
    5. Click the Advanced tab on the Properties window.
    6. Change the Default Format drop-down to the highest quality.
    7. Apply the properties.
    8. Click OK to close the properties window.
    9. Click OK to close the Playback Devices.
What browser are you using? I would check to make sure the browser is up to date.
Does this happen when playing a DVD or CD?
Make sure you do not have other things running in the back ground when a video is playing as open browser Windows do effect the streaming.
Hope this helps you with the sound.
    Thanks.

  • Fixing Volume -- Too Low

Has anyone got a fix without hacking it with AudioAmp (seems to be mixed results with 3g). But i have to admit, the volume even at max is too low - and I would love for it to be higher.
    any help here desired

My wife and I have matching 1st generation iPhones. Her speaker/ringer is easily 2-3 times louder than mine.
Can't see any 'film' protecting speakers, and I have restarted, reset, restored, cleared/reset all settings and volume controls and sound options with no success. One phone is 2-3 times louder than the other.
There has to be a fix for this!!! It's a huge problem, I'm missing calls!

  • Volume Too Low on Some Headpho

I know the volume issue has been beaten to death. I bought my Zen Touch player in Canada, not in Europe. I have noticed that with the earbuds that came with the player, and with a pair of Panasonic headphones that came with a CD player I bought, the volume is fine for me.
However, I've borrowed a heavy duty pair of Sennheiser HD570 from my roomie, I have it on max volume and it's not loud enough. If I tweak around with the EQ as Creative suggests, I get a lot of distortion.
Keeping in mind I don't have an EU version of the player or EU firmware, is there any other way to increase the volume of this sucker? I'm sure it's just a software issue, so why can't those good people at Creative create a little patch with a bunch of code making the volume louder. Or failing that, is there some way to increase the volume on the Mp3s themselves?
If nothing can be done, can anyone suggest a quality pair of non-earbud headphones that won't be too quiet. I've had my eye on a pair of Sennheiser PX-00s but I don't wanna buy an expensi've set and them have them be quiet on me.

"Large headphones might well be a problem as an MP3 player might not have enough power to dri've them."
It is not the impedence or the size of the headphones, but the efficiency of the headphones that is most important, even though the built in amp will probably deli'ver more power into a lower impedence.
The Sony V6(full sized closed headphones) is also 64 ohms, yet is very efficient and can be dri'ven adequately with almost any portable. Its efficiency is 06 db/mw. The Sennheiser HD570 is quite ineficient at only 95 db/mw.
The Sony V6 is also sold under the model number 7506. The 7506 has a gold plated plug though. Otherwise they are identical. The 7506 is around $00, while the V6 is around $70. The 7506 has been a favorite headphone of radio stations and tv production for many years. It has deep bass that is not boomy or overexaggerated and natural sounding highs. As with all closed headphones, it might tend to make ones ears feel hot. One other thing about the V6. It has a straight plug, so one should use a right angle plug Y cord or right angle plug headphone extension cord and plug the straight plug of the V6 into that and not directly into the player in order to protect the jack on the player.

  • Volume too low on Lumias

I previuosly owned a Lumia 800 and now a Lumia 920, and both have exactly the same problem...the earphone volume is just too low. Things are fine of you are hearing in a quiet room, but if you are walking or jogging in the street, the music volume at 30\30 is too low.
Nokia should get an iphone or ipod and compare, Hard too see how Nokia can sell itself as a music platform, yet produce sub par music devices.
I'm angry because of this. The Lumia 920 is an expensive device. Switching back to the iphone...

I love the Lumia 920 and the Windows 8 OS. I started off with the iphone, then to android, and now to windows 8 phone. However, there are certain things that should be left up to the consumer to control. Not everyone is the same, your hearing may be more sensative than another person. Since this is a Nokia issue, the volume should have been left to a volume level that will please everyone. I like listening to music loud especially when I am cutting my grass. It is annoying using a weed trimmer and I can hardly hear the music cause it is too low even though I have it at the max setting. The exteranl speaker is the same issue. 10/10 is rediculous. Everyone is always trying to control the way others do things and say things, express themselves, etc. It needs to be adressed and included in the next update.

  • Volume too low on download from itunes store how to fix

My download from itunes store won't play on my ipad at a decent volume.  How do I fix it?
Actually, I suspect the download itself is too low and fuzzy.  How do I reload?

If you are having a problem with a song you downloaded from iTunes, you can report it to an iTunes worker and they will redownload the song for you for free.  Go to the song you bought and find where it says "report a problem".  Click on that, and you can explain your problem to an iTunes worker.

  • Volume too low on album purchased on iTunes

I purchased an album on iTunes and when I burn to CD the volume is too low. I have done all suggest things to "enhance" the sound. All other items I have purchased are fine. It just seems to be this one album. Any suggestions. Is there a way to "repurchase-download" without paying.
    Jenean

    Craw4dm,
If you go to iTunes menu, select preferences and click on "playback" button you'll see a check box called "sound check". This enables the computer to adjust the volume of each track so that they all sound similar in volume. So no, you don't have to go through each track! Its a global setting of your music player.
I have it switched off at all times. I also have sound enhancer switched off at all times.
These features have no effect on volume (or anything for that matter) when you burn CD's.
As to the original poster, if the CD sounds quiet then that is how its supposed to be. If buy the CD in the shops it will sound the same. Note that there is big trend at the moment to make albums sound very loud using special processing at the mastering stage (when audio is prepared for album release). It is a trend that most "audiophiles" (or IMHO anyone with ears!) detest. Look up "loudness wars" or similar, on google.
Indeed the "sound check" facility in itunes is there to counteract the fact that CD's sound different in volume - a fact that is made all the worse by the record company practise I have just outlined!
I suspect the "quiet CD" just sounds more like it should do and its being compared to a CD thats been mastered overly loud.

  • Headset volume too low

I just bought an iphone for wife, she said the earphone volume is too low, I have set the volume to max, any idea? Thanks Alex

The volume issue WAS a problem. Apple fixed it for most people a number of software releases ago. Most of the volume complaints stopped a long time ago after the fix. Now, with the 3G iphone, my volume is very loud and much better than even the fixed first version iphone. I think if you read the many initial reviews of the 3G version, most mentioned how much better the handset, speaker and speakerphone quality and loudness is. I know this is not solace for someone with a problem now, but I don't think it is widespread. You could just have a defective phone. Take it in the Apple Genius bar and see if they will get you a new one.

The maximum volume on my ipod is too low.  When I am driving,  I cannot hear it.  When I use the car jack,  I cannot hear it.  How do I turn up the voume

    armin75 wrote:
And why is the crappy supermarket mp3 player louder then my Ipod Classic then???
I don't know, you tell us!
I also use an extra AKG headphone with a low impedance which fits the Ipods output, otherwise it would even be more silent.
I have an old pair of AKG K340 headphones and I use a Cmoy "altoids" amp to drive them from the iPod.
I compared also with my old 5.5 Video Ipod and with the volume cap enabled (i can also uncap it of course :-)) it is 5dB louder then the classic.
I believe it is a known fact that the 5th gen iPod can be hacked, the Classic cannot.
I am also working for a very big service department for Nokia Siemens Networks and within i learned that the customer is the king, but this doesn't seem to apply for Apple.
As has already been said, it is an EU law - and all mp3 players sold within the EU must comply with EU legislation. If you know of a brand that doesn't, perhaps it's not actually approved for sale within the EU. Apple are not going to ignore an EU law, whatever you think or say! Do you think the EU would simply roll over and let Apple ignore this law?
I am not the only complaining customer i suppose, and normally when a company is loosing (normally satisfied) customers it should think about customer oriented solutions.
    As above!
When i buy an Apple product i automatically assume a very good product, but i am really, really annoyed this time. Other producers within the EU don't play by the book and no one takes care about it, or how can the supermarket mp3 play much louder than the classic (i measured the same!! output impedance).
I believe other manufacturers do play by the book. Is "supermarket mp3 player" a euphemism for something that should not be sold within the EU?
You know - since you feel this strongly about it, you should take the matter up with your MEP (Member of the European Parliament), since what you say here will not change a thing.
    Phil
