Volume Troubles on .wav files

I used to use Soundtrack (from FCP Express ver.) and now I have Soundtrack Pro 2.02.
I can't seem to figure out why, but anytime I import .wav files, the volume is very soft. I have tried adjusting to +6db but it is still really soft in comparison to the rest of my tracks.
Can anyone help me figure this out?

I agree here, make sure you you are ok with the Apple Lossless file. I personally think Apple Lossless is one of the best lossless formats out there, in the sense that the quality is just as good as a WAV yet it takes up significantly less space and allows for all of the metadata/artwork you need. However, it's problem is it is very proprietary, and pretty much anything outside of the Apple world probably can't play it.
WAV files don't contain artwork in the file themselves (or I believe any ID3 tag info for that matter right?) however you can still input tags and artwork for WAVs into iTunes. iTunes will remember to assign that information, but if you ever need to re-add the song to your library or another library, all of that info will be lost because it wasn't stored in the actual WAV file.
AIFF can hold tag data right?

  • Having trouble with wav files and sample rates

    Hi ,I am having trouble with wav files and sample rates .I have been sent multiple projects on wav as the main instrumental ; I wish to record in 48.000kHz .Now comes the problem.When I try to change the project to 48k It seems to pitch up the track.I can't have them send the logic/project file as most have outboard synths,different plug ins etc.This particular case the producer has recorded the synth task in 41.000 kHz .My successful outcome would be to be able t create a project file in 48 kHz .And NOT pitch up whne I add the instrumenta wav file .Any help would be gratefully recieved,this is my first post so any mistakes I may have made go easy

    You'll have to convert the actual synth audio file file that the producer gave you to 48kHz. You can do this in the audio Bin in Logic.

  • Having trouble with wav files

    We convert voicemails to wav and push them to each persons Exchange account. All iPhone users can listen to the wav file with the exception of one person. When they click on the wav file nothing happens. They are using a 3Gs. Any thoughts on what to look for?

    I too can't get wav files from my exchange server to download to my 3GS but I used to Be able to. I also cannot download them to my iPad either. I am assuming then that this must be something with my server but I don't think anything changed on it. Any thoughts?

  • Flash CS 6 has trouble importing .wav files

    Not sure what's up with that but it does. Very CLEARLY a bug. If I drag the files onto the Library, it will give an error for each file but then once it's imported each one it will then ask me if I want to overright it and then reimport it again. The audio is then ruined and can not be used. It has been garbled to sound like static.
    If I import them one by one, it does the same thing. If I try to import them all at once the program crashes.
    The .wav files play fine in any other program so it's not the files themselves. It is also repeatable.
    The ONLY thing that works is to batch convert them all to aif files via the Media Encoder but it's asinine to think that I have to do that by default each time.
    I am running Windows 7 64 bit with 8 gb of memory and an Intel Xeon CPU at 2.8 ghz

    Solved my own problem! In case anyone searches for this issue, the error happens when you save out an Audition file and select "Include markers and other metadata" at the bottom which crashes the import every time for me. Unchecking that stupid thing fixes the import error. It is repeatable on multiple computers in our office as well so it is indeed a fix.

  • Wav file from remix stem pack has no volume - Logic Pro 9

    I recently downloaded a remix stem pack and can't get the vocal wav file to play. It show's a wave form, but no volume. If I load a sample wav file, a drum hit for example, it will play no problem. Anyone have any idea's? It's not the wav file as it plays in itunes, and also plays in my friends logic pro.
    Thanks

    The hierarchy is [LOGIC FILE NAME]>LgDoc>(files ... Displaystate, DocumentData, Windowimage.jpg)
    Like this:
    You need to recreate the folder structure in order to be able to open the file.  (look at the path bar at the bottom of the picture.)
    Do not disassociate the displaystate from the documentData files.  They should be together.  The windowimage file is optional and will be recreated when the file is saved again.
    Hope this helps!

  • HI, I am having trouble when importing .wav files into logic.

    Everytime I import this .wav file of a DJ set i recorded, it shows me the waveform but no sound comes out when its played. I have tried converting the bitrate to 16bit and the filetype to aiff as I saw it had helped people with similar problems but when i do this its boosts the gain massivly and the recrding becomes very distored? Really dont know what to try??
    Also the reason I am trying to get the Wav in was bevause i need to normalise it as it had to be recorded very quitely to avoid distortion on the recording. I recorded it by using the imput on the back of my monitors as they are usb, and th programme i used to record it is "audio recorder tool" from the app store
    Thanks for your help, Joe

    I think the problem is you're recorded 32-bit wav files which Logic doesn't support.
    (don't convert to aiff, unless you have the right program, that understands converting little endian 32 bit wavs to big endian aiff format, you will get distortion)
    I think your best bet is to download "Audacity" the free audio editor and convert to 24-bit WAV files. Re-save the audio file under a different name after converting. In Audacity this is done using the Export function, selecting other non-compressed formats.
    http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/mac
    The reason you want 24-bit WAVs to work with is you're going to be raising the volume of the file, 24-bit files will suffer less damage when editing with plugins, normalizing...etc.

  • Broadcast Wav files from PT to Logic not moving to original record position

    Okay, my system needs upgrading but I'm stable (at least I think I am til now!) I have a TV network sending me broadcast wav files from PT. They shoot their video on a 24 hour clock. I'm to be editing and mixing (in Logic) their audio tracks from PT and send them back as broadcast wav files for them to sync back to their video. After years and years of recording and producing music, this TV world is a first for me. 2 issues at hand that are causing trouble.
    NUMBER 1: The wav files will not snap to original record position. I keep getting an error message about "out of range" and of all craziness with a negative SMPTE number. ??? The prompt suggests an offset error. But there isn't I can find. Start time is set to 0:0:0.0.0 here and at the TV studio. They film at 29.97d. That matches as well. Sample Rate is correct at 48k 24bit. I've uncovered every thing I can think of. I did have to set the tempo down to 5 BPM in order to see a full 24 hours in SMPTE.
    NUMBER 2: I can't figure out how to see the timestamp start time of the audio files in the audio window. I have every option turned on in the VIEW option, I can see length, but I see nothing about start time of original record time. Am I missing something simple here? Seems like a very standard option that should be easily accessible. It would allow me to prepare the location on the time line.
    Overall, I'm hoping I can do all the above with my current rig but realize that the clock is ticking toward a whole new system with Logic 9.
    Help please. Don't want to lose this client.

    Sure do appreciate everyone's willingness to help. Setting SMPTE start to 24:00:00.0.0 didn't work either. I confirmed with the studio manager at the TV station also that they run a 24hour clock with 0 being midnight.
    I'm really hoping that the error is on their end.
    *It would help me if anyone knew how to VIEW the Timestamp info attached to the wav files. That would at least give me an approximate idea of where they should be.*
    I'm supposed to be editing and mixing the voice dialog from numerous different scene takes that were shot throughout a day of filming. It's critical that I can see all these different takes that were captured over hours of open recording. Some of the files are almost 4 hours long. It's a big project and I'm sure hoping I can stay inside Logic to get it all done with excellence.

  • How to open a "wav" file in Logic 7.2.1 and then remaster?

    A fellow musician wants to see if I can improve audio tracks his band recorded in Cubase SX. He has a CD with the WAV files of each of 12 audio tracks. First question - Could someone tell me how to open his files and then import them into Logic Pro so that his tracks 1-12 correspond to my audio tracks 1-12 and be in sync?
    Second question - assuming I can get his tracks going what are the key ways to boost volume or "master" his tracks so that the end result, a stereo mix, is loud vibrant and "radio ready"?
    I'm familiar with the mastering plug ins on the output channels of Logic. I've used "Soft Maximizer" but it seems to be compression related. Are these "rooms", available on the output channels, the only way to increase volume and aliveness?
    He's doing this because the studio he's at can't seem to make a mix that he's happy with. He says the mixes lack volume and vibrancy. Thanks in advance.

    Use the Audio Editor window to import the tracks. Then drag them one at a time onto Audio tracks in the Arrange window so they all align to Bar 1 1 1 1.
    The fun will start if they were not recorded simultaneously as you will need to align them manually to be in sync. Good luck with that it takes time but is not impossible. Use the moveable start point in the Audio Editor to adjust the start of each wav file until they are aligned.
    To improve the levels, probably the quickest way is to Normalize each track first in the Audio Editor window before you start mixing and EQ'ing them in Arrange.

  • Can no longer listen to low-quality WAV files

    I have used iTunes to organize and listen to voice files recorded on portable digital recorders and cameras, but today discovered that they no longer work. Furthermore I can no longer import these files, with no error message. Should I look to replace iTunes with other software? Install Windows?
    Kind: WAV audio file
    Size: 4MB
    Bit Rate: 32 kbps
    Sample Rate: 8.000 kHz
    Date Modified: 22/05/08 7:59 AM
    Play Count: 2
    Last Played: 21/08/08 10:22 AM
    Channels: Mono
    Sample Size: 4 bit
    Compression: DVI IMA

    I am having the same trouble. It started with the iTunes 8.1 update. What I've found is that you can solve this with a work around, it is not pretty, but it does work. The very strange thing is that Quicktime plays them fine and Quickview plays them fine(my guess is it is using Quicktime to play them).
    Basically use another program to convert your WAV files to MP3 format. Then you can import them into iTunes.
    This is a good one(open source and allows for editing the sound files)

  • I back my music and photos from my windows laptop before it broke on a external hard drive . I just got a new mac book can I use the hard drive to put my wave files and JPEG files on to my mac book

    My old lap top broke I save all my music what is wave and my pitches is jpeg on external hard drive
    the old laptop was a window base laptop
    so I got a new mac coming and I been told my hard drive won't won't on the mac and I lose all my photos and music
    any help
    thanks

    If your external drive has the right ports, you should be able to plug it up to your Mac and copy over your photos and wav files. You'll probably (I don't know this for sure as it's been a long, long time since I've dealt with wav files) need to convert the wav files to MP3 or some other format (but I would try opening them directly from iTunes, first - wait a second... yes, iTunes will open wav files).
    There are only a fixed number of ways that Windows drive can be formatted and a Mac can read (though not necessarily write) them all. So you should have no trouble with that.
    Good luck,

  • How do I import wav files from an external hard drive into itunes converting to aac?

    I have 270 gig of wav files on an external hard drive.  I am having trouble finding a way to import these into itunes while converting to aac

    Note that .wav files do not carry a tag. If you import files of the form ..\<Artist>\<Album>\## <Name> into iTunes it will fill in the name property as the filename ## <Name> and all other fields will be blank.  Assuming there is useful data in the path to capture, use Edit > Preferences > Avanced and disable the Keep... and Copy... options before adding the tracks to iTunes. You can then use the script TagFromFilename to fill in the blanks. Once this information is there you can convert the files to their new format and the converted files will inherit the track details.
    You might want to consider initially converting to Apple Lossless which could halve the physical size of the collection with no loss of quality, and permanently embed the tag details. You can then choose to make a downsampled collection while retaining the full quality lossless copies and completely discarding the .wav originals.

  • I have pc with itunes loaded on seperate hard drive and can't find all music some from ripping in wav files won;t show but any and all i've downloaded from itunes store are there what,s up/ /?

    Having trouble getting my music from seperate hard drive. Recently tried to have my new laptop see and play itunes on my wireless server, but not all music showed up, and now my music on my pc doesn't show all music either. Some wav files from ripping off cd, and some I've imported from windows media show up and all mp3 bought from store is there. But more than half is listed at bottom of library as unknown artist, unknown album etc.. WHATS UP!!!!

    try backing up the adresses on a different computer.
    1) connect iphone to computer
    2) in itunes click "enable disk use"
    3) locate the files in the iphone hard drive
    4) copy and paste them on that computer
    if it does wipe out your adress library, just revert to the backup. Although i don't know where the files will be on your iphone hard drive.

  • [UCCx] Change volume of an audio file (java code)

    Hello guys,
    Thanks to the many examples I compiled on the subject, I was able to create a script that mixes 2 audio wav files into a 3rd one. Basically the goal is to mix a first audio file containing some speech with a second one containing some music, these files being encoded identically (8 bits, 8KHz, mono wav files). The resulting file must be encoded in the same format than the initial ones.
    The mixing operation is performed thanks to the MixingAudioInputStream library found online (it can be found here).
    It is not the most beautiful Java code (I am no developer), but it works:
    Document doc1 = (Document) promptFlux1;
    Document doc2 = (Document) promptFlux2;
    Document docFinal = (Document) promptFinal;
    javax.sound.sampled.AudioFormat formatAudio = null;
    java.util.List audioInputStreamList = new java.util.ArrayList();
    javax.sound.sampled.AudioInputStream ais1 = null;
    javax.sound.sampled.AudioInputStream ais2 = null;
    javax.sound.sampled.AudioInputStream aisTemp = null;
    javax.sound.sampled.AudioFileFormat formatFichierAudio = javax.sound.sampled.AudioSystem.getAudioFileFormat(new java.io.BufferedInputStream(doc1.getInputStream()));
    java.io.File fichierTemp = java.io.File.createTempFile("wav", "tmp");
    ais1 = javax.sound.sampled.AudioSystem.getAudioInputStream(doc1.getInputStream());
    formatAudio = ais1.getFormat();
    aisTemp = javax.sound.sampled.AudioSystem.getAudioInputStream(doc2.getInputStream());
    byte[] bufferTemp = new byte[(int)ais1.getFrameLength()];
    int nbOctetsLus = aisTemp.read(bufferTemp, 0, bufferTemp.length);
    java.io.ByteArrayInputStream baisTemp = new java.io.ByteArrayInputStream(bufferTemp);
    ais2 = new javax.sound.sampled.AudioInputStream(baisTemp, formatAudio, bufferTemp.length/formatAudio.getFrameSize());
    audioInputStreamList.add(ais1);
    audioInputStreamList.add(ais2);
    MixingAudioInputStream mixer = new MixingAudioInputStream(formatAudio, audioInputStreamList);
    javax.sound.sampled.AudioSystem.write(mixer, formatFichierAudio.getType(), fichierTemp);
    return fichierTemp;
    The only downside to this is that the music can be a little loud comparing to the speech. So I am now trying to use the AmplitudeAudioInputStream library to adjust the volume of the second file (it can be found here).
    Here are the additional lines I wrote to do this:
    ais2 = new javax.sound.sampled.AudioInputStream(baisTemp, formatAudio, bufferTemp.length/formatAudio.getFrameSize());
    org.tritonus.dsp.ais.AmplitudeAudioInputStream amplifiedAudioInputStream = new org.tritonus.dsp.ais.AmplitudeAudioInputStream(ais2, formatAudio);
    amplifiedAudioInputStream.setAmplitudeLinear(0.2F);
    audioInputStreamList.add(ais1);
    audioInputStreamList.add(amplifiedAudioInputStream);
    MixingAudioInputStream mixer = new MixingAudioInputStream(formatAudio, audioInputStreamList);
    javax.sound.sampled.AudioSystem.write(mixer, formatFichierAudio.getType(), fichierTemp);
    return fichierTemp;
    The problem is I always get the following exception when executing the code:
    could not write audio file: file type not supported: WAVE; nested exception is: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: could not write audio file: file type not supported: WAVE (line 30, col:2)
    The error is on the last line (the write method), but after many hours of tests and research I cannot understand why this is not working... so I have added some "debugging" information to the code:
    System.out.println("file1 audio file format: " + formatFichierAudio.toString());
    System.out.println("file1 file format: " + ais1.getFormat().toString());
    System.out.println("file2 file format: " + ais2.getFormat().toString());
    System.out.println("AIS with modified volume file format: " + amplifiedAudioInputStream.getFormat().toString());
    System.out.println("Mixed AIS (final) file format: " + mixer.getFormat().toString());
    AudioFileFormat.Type[] typesDeFichiers = AudioSystem.getAudioFileTypes(mixer);
    for (int i = 0; i < typesDeFichiers.length ; i++) {
    System.out.println("Mixed AIS (final) #" + i + " supported file format: " + typesDeFichiers[i].toString());
    System.out.println("Is WAVE format supported by Mixed AIS (final): " + AudioSystem.isFileTypeSupported(AudioFileFormat.Type.WAVE, mixer));
    System.out.println("Destination file format: " + (AudioSystem.getAudioFileFormat((java.io.File)f)).toString());
    AudioInputStream aisFinal = AudioSystem.getAudioInputStream(f);
    System.out.println("Is WAVE format supported by destination file: " + AudioSystem.isFileTypeSupported(AudioFileFormat.Type.WAVE, aisFinal));
    try {
    // Ecriture du flux résultant dans un fichier
    javax.sound.sampled.AudioSystem.write(mixer, formatFichierAudio.getType(), fichierTemp);
    return fichierTemp;
    catch (Exception e) {
    System.err.println("Caught Exception: " + e.getMessage());
    Which gives the following result during execution:
    file1 audio file format: WAVE (.wav) file, byte length: 146964, data format: ULAW 8000.0 Hz, 8 bit, mono, 1 bytes/frame, , frame length: 146906
    file1 file format: ULAW 8000.0 Hz, 8 bit, mono, 1 bytes/frame,
    file2 file format: ULAW 8000.0 Hz, 8 bit, mono, 1 bytes/frame,
    AIS with modified volume file format: ULAW 8000.0 Hz, 8 bit, mono, 1 bytes/frame,
    Mixed AIS (final) file format: ULAW 8000.0 Hz, 8 bit, mono, 1 bytes/frame,
    Mixed AIS (final) #1 supported file format: WAVE
    Mixed AIS (final) #2 supported file format: AU
    Mixed AIS (final) #3 supported file format: AIFF
    Is WAVE format supported by Mixed AIS (final): true
    Destination file format: WAVE (.wav) file, byte length: 146952, data format: ULAW 8000.0 Hz, 8 bit, mono, 1 bytes/frame, , frame length: 146906
    Is WAVE format supported by destination file: true
    So everything tends to show that the format should be supported and the mixed AIS should be written to the file... but I still get the error.
    I am really confused here, if someone could help it would be great.
    Thanks in advance!
    PS: I have attached print screens of the actual script, without the "volume adjustment" code.

    Hi,
    well I started writing a similar solution but it did not work either so I just put it on hold.
    I also tried to get hold of the streaming "device" abstraction of UCCX to adjust the volume while "playing" but that was a dead end, too, unfortunately.
    Sorry about my previous comment on your StackOverflow post, that time I thought it was kind of out of context but I believe you only wanted to ask about this issue on all available forums.

  • Embedded wav files not playing in IE7 after installing QT 7.3

    I created a web page that uses javascript to play embedded wav files on an onclick event. I was having trouble with my Firefox browser not playing the wav files at all, so I thought I'd update from QT 7.1 to QT 7.3. This has caused my IE browser to stop playing the embedded files, and has not helped my Firefox browser, either. Uninstalling QT 7.3 does restore IE7's ability to play the embedded files. I'm using some simple popular Javascript for the function, and the page works for me in my home installation of Firefox, so I'm still mystified why the wav files won't play on my workplace Firefox (yes, I tried disabling all the other plugins, to no avail), and also, I need to fix IE7 now, as well. QuickTime Object is enabled in IE's add-ons list.
    I did search all over the knowledge base here and at Firefox's site for solutions.
    Suggestions?

    Internet Explorer requires the "object" tag code and your html only uses "embed".
