Volume wont work without headphones or speaker

when there is nothing attached to my 4th generation itouch, the volume icon switches to the way its displayed when there is a speaker attached & there is no sound at all. the volume does work when speakers/headphones are attached& i know that the speaker isnt broken. I've tried turning it on & off, and I've already restored it but it still doesnt work. what do i do??

If you restored to factory defaults/new iPod and still have the problem you very likely have a hardware problem. Likely a bad headphone jack. I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

I downloaded an app called volume boost free. It worked before i went to bed but when i got up to go to work the volume button didnt work any more. It wasnt just that the button doesnt work because It works when the head phones are in and it shows the speaker symbol with the squares under it and says headphones when i unplug the headphones it wont play. the song is still playing but the volume wont work. I have done all the restart stuff and have reset all the software but it still will not work.

It is resolving JNDI all right it actually uses it but the same as 2.3.3 it
will fail if no Driver/URL specified in properties. It looks like it still
trying to do something with it (2.3.3 was trying to load schema using
driver/url). Once this "something" is done it happily uses JNDI provided
factory. Unfortunately I cant send you a stack trace - I was playing with
2.4 over weekend and I have already converted my project back to 2.3.3
I think all you need to reproduce the problem is property file with
ConnectionFactoryName only no driver/url/user/password should be specified
at all

Music wont play without headphones

my iphone 3gs wont play music without headphones, when I unplug my headphones the entire volume bar disappears, it also will not play text tones unless i have it on vibrate, and it wont play sound in apps either. It will still ring when people call though. ive tried restarting and restoring to factory settings AND checked all of the sound settings...nothing has worked...anyone else have this problem?

There are a couple of things that I would recommend that you try. The first thing would be resetting the device.

With the headphones unplugged, does adjusting the volume bring up the volume indicator with "ringer (headphones)"? If so, try searching for article TS1630 on apple's site or google. It may have some debris in the headphone jack that could be removed by plugging and unplugging the headphones about 7 times. If that doesn't work, keep following TS1630.

Mac Book Pro volume only works through headphones

My volume does not work when I do not have headphones plugged into the phone jack? When I try to turn the volume up on my Mac Book Pro, the volume box has a restricted sign below the volume icon. How can I fix this for my Mac Book Pro?

Win 7 wont work without power supply

When using boot camp i hold down option key to boot up win 7 and it works completly fine if the power supply is plugged in. but without the power supply win7 cant boot. its starts up the loading screen then when its just about to get to login screen it goes black. when it is black if i plug in power supply then the screen appears and win 7 works fine but without the power supply im not able to see the screen.
win 7 works every sinlge time with power supply to no problems at all.
the only problem is win7 without the power supply and the screen just shuts off.
any suggestions?

I had the same problem. Then I set the power schemes all back to default. The one think I changed was the screen lighting. After I set the power schemes back to default the problem was resolved.

Cannot call out without headphones or speaker

My son's phone is a Blackberry Tour (I believe). He is away at school and told me he can't make calls unless his headphones are plugged into it or he uses the speakerphone. Anyone know why?

Thank-you LatachaM_VZW for your suggestion, which is a good one. For many of those type of problems with a Blackberry device, trying a simple battery pull will solve the problem. RIM even recommends pulling the battery out for a moment and then putting it back to allow your device to reboot at least once every couple of days. Blackberry devices are notorious for using the free memory in its daily uses and rebooting helps to reclaim some of that memory. If this does not solve your son's problem, please let us know here in the forums and someone will be glad to try and help.

My volume button's no longer working unless headphones are used

Hi all
The last couple of days, my volume button no longer works (it brings up the ringer box on display, but volume is unchangeable) and the ipod volume slider has disappeared from the screen. I can change the volume in settings, but no sound is being played through the internal speakers when used as an ipod (headphones work fine and volume buttons work with headphone). I still have internal speakers working when a phone call is received or an alarm sounds.
I've tried restoring from backup and hard resets, but neither of these things worked. No new software has been installed since the most recent backup so I'm at a loss what to try next so hoping someone has some suggestions

Thanks Deeco, I tried cleaning the headphone jack but that didn't fix it for me (although I'm not sure leaving it on a radiator all night would generally be a good thing so I didn't try that!!
But I have fixed it though
After the headphone jack cleaning didn't fix it, I cleaned out the charger/docking station connector with a plastic toothpick by running it very gently and carefully either side of the strip of pins - and got out a couple of rather large lumps of fluff - and this seems to have fixed the problem for me.
Hope this helps others fix theirs.

My ibook v.10.4.8 wont work without the netadapter. The computer wont even find the battery. The computer is about 4 months old, so I dont think that the battery is really finished. Could it be something else? Some software problem?

The iBook was last manufactured in May 15, 2006 or earlier, as that's when the MacBook replaced it. Anything since then was simply overstock at the shop you bought at or used, refurbished, or demo, unless Apple released MacBooks later in Sweden. Regardless, have you tried running the hardware test that comes with the machine? Article 86287 explains how:
